hey everybody welcome back today we're gonna focus on some must-have items for your bug out bags that you may not have thought about being that I'm a channel that focuses on affordable survival gear and people who might just be getting started out in prepping I wanted to bring you some items today that are I feel must haves for your bug out bag and some of you may not have even thought of so we're gonna go through the items quickly it's not gonna be a super long video it's just some basic items that I think you should think about and even some items that I didn't even think about are having my survival bags and my bug out gear until I started doing YouTube and really watching more videos so first thing we're gonna start off with cordage this is a representation I would recommend 2 to 3 packs that size you'll be amazed at how much you use this when you're out camping and in a bug-out situation you probably use it twice as much it's 550 paracord the 550 comes because it has a minimum of 550 pounds of tensile strength ok so this kit but that's kind of strength you can do like some of your heaviest tasks with it you can tie stuff up you can use this as a replacement for bulky ropes you can use it with as well with some first aid items you can use paracord to set up a tarp or a game or our trap for game you can build shelter you can make a clothesline you can even in a real pinch get up or down to Streep's a steep slope not sight of a mountain and a steep slope using some paracord so that's the first thing the next thing here's something people really don't think about garbage bags give you a way to keep your pack your waste out if you don't want somebody knowing that you were there you're garbage you know you're gonna have those empty things from all your mountain huffs foods or whatever or your empty wrappers from your MRE it's really a multi-purpose item you can use it as a leak-proof water container for carrying water from a stream somewhere you can use it as a poncho you can put it around water sensitive items like tinder and firewood plastic provides excellent insulation it protects items like that from dampness and you can store things like plant leaves inside a garbage bag to make a makeshift pillow lots have been used for garbage bags again that's a representation those are just the ones we have for everyday use I recommend getting yourself the contract compactor bags not contractor compactor remember the old garbage compactor sand smoosh down your garbage in your kitchen they're really really thick plastic heavy duty plastic and that's what I haven't all my bug-out bags you can find them in most stores if you can't find them anywhere just ask they run a little expensive you know for an average roll of this maybe you'll pay five or six bucks for a huge roll of these for a smaller roll with maybe about thirty garbage bags in it you might pay seven bucks for compactor bags they're well worth it they're hard to puncture they're really thick and good all right next up a Sleep System of some kind okay now my Sleep System is pretty simple I have a small collapsible pillow in here on top and a military get that out of there a military sleeping bag this is just the sleeping bag this is not the insert of the whoopee or anything okay where I live in the desert out here this is more than enough okay even when we get down to 1520 degrees it's still warm in the daytime warm enough for a something like that so this would keep you warm maybe you want to take an extra blanket with you I do have some extra Bowl blankets in my bags but anyway that's how I have this and this is just a little camp pillow whoops to close their little slumber jack Camp pillow but the Sleep System is most important with that Sleep System because you want to keep your body insulated from the cold in the ground or the heat in the ground I recommend a camping pad a sleeping pad and again I have a military surplus blow up supposed to be self inflating but you know after these are stored for years they really don't self inflate and I mean really you just open this up and blow into it maybe five or six breaths this thing is tight and ready for use and it will insulate you from the ground so let's move that over here there we go okay so what's up next a tarp this time gonna just put up here from displaying them to move it I have if you look back a few videos ago I did a video on making a tarp shelter this was the tarp I used I have my stakes in here and I have my pole this pole is an old tripod from a an old leg from a tripod my tripod I no longer used its compact look how small that folds up you know that's about the size of my sleeping bag you know pretty small pretty compact easy to use easy to set up you got yourself shelter beats having a tent it's like 10 bucks maybe you got 15 bucks in this and it's lighter and a little bit easier to use than the cheap tent and it will keep you dry and will keep you sheltered so let's toss that over there I'm trying to reach over the camera without knocking it over next up multi-tool this is where I tell people don't scrimp and don't try to go cheap because multi tools that are cheap usually don't work well I say stick with Leatherman stick with Gerber stick with a name you know these are two of the kinds that I have I have plenty of others these are just you know again for demo good a good multi-tool can really come in handy you can use these things for pretty much everything you can use it even for defense if you had to you know you can use them to prepare game for food build a shelter cut rope cut you know even cut some wood make some shavings for some you know tinder with a blade there's just a lot they can do and again the idea of a bug-out bag is to pack as many multi-purpose items as you can find because you want to make your bag as light as possible and this is an awesome multi-purpose item I also find on these that if you can find the back of the saw blade that is an excellent scraper for a Ferro rod there so and again don't scrimp on these buy a quality name-brand the cheaper ones i've seen usually don't work to spend a lot I mean the most expensive one I have here is like maybe 40 50 bucks Leatherman czar worth it they work they do what they're supposed to do you can't really go wrong with them next up and this gets a little controversial because you can end up spending a lot of money on this is your survival knife okay pretty much anybody in the survival business knows the value of a survival knife I'm gonna move this out of the way so I could show you some options okay there are plenty of options out there for affordable quality survival knives you do not have to spend two and three hundred dollars five hundred dollars on a knife you know having our custom-made knife is really nice yes they're very much worth it they'll probably stick with you for generations you know but a decent survival knife is very important you can use this for bushcrafting again preparing firewood simple knife you mean heck you can start a fire with it without matches or a lighter just use the knife as a Ferro rod you know so I I again I in the beginning neglected a knife and a lot of my survival kits because I thought to myself what am I going to use it for wow did I get a wake up you know about five or six years ago when I started really watching youtube videos and start doing YouTube videos I started seeing all the things that I can do in your kit now you may think I live in the middle of Los Angeles what the heck am I gonna do with one of these big knives well trust me you'll want one and it's not really for defense I mean this is a tool for making stuff let's say you have your tarp out and you lost your stakes get a piece of wood chop it down make yourself a couple of steaks so I'm gonna give you a quick quick rundown on these all of these knives have been reviewed on my channel you can search for him this is perhaps the cheapest and decent quality this is a Mora these anywhere from twelve to fifteen dollars is the more companion this is the carbon steel version I um used a little gun blue on it and blue tit and I also as you can see here that little silver area I took a dremel tool and put this in my vise and flattened it out and I used a file to get a nice 90-degree angle there so this will strike a Ferro rod and again 12 to 15 bucks you can buy two of them if one breaks you got a backup they are not full-tang they're a partial tang you know they had that little tang that goes back in the handle but it's not the whole length of the handle but these have a reputation for being very reliable very dependable and good you can find these all over amazon you can check my amazon store i got them in there next up is the buck 632 this is available at Walmart yes those are real g10 scales it's got some nice stainless steel on it nice blade very very sharp made in the USA as you can see they're a little US thing on it and these didn't run about I want to say $45 in Walmart definitely a quality knife you will find videos on these all over people have found ways to change out the scales for wood there's just so many different little videos but this is a very comfortable knife to use it's a quality knife and for 45 bucks you got a nice it'll probably last you your lifetime okay now this is a CRKT I believe it's aircrew survival knife again not a bushcraft knife but you know 44 bucks 45 bucks good quality knife very very heavy very well-made I did a review on it recently this knife will work very very well for you if you need a survival knife it also you know the the common theme of this is people think it's a survival knife for doing what we do with it bushcrafting cutting starting fires it'll work for all that but the real point of this knife is to be able to cut through the side of an aircraft you know the aluminum so yeah it's a tough knife and it comes with a nice sheath and has a little sharpener in there so pretty good deal last up another example about 47 to 50 dollars the gerber strongarm excellent made knife okay I've spent enough time on knives you get the idea but yeah I mean you can buy yourself a decent quality knife for not a lot of money now there's something else I'm gonna recommend here and that is a headlamp I know we all think carry flashlights probably not a lot of people think to carry headlamps and I wasn't a true believer in them either until a couple of years ago the ability to use both hands you know while you're working on something with this on your head focused on your task is amazing I discovered this many years ago when we had a power outage and I got one for free in the mail or something and I just threw it on my head and I figured you know what I'm just gonna use this till I can find my flashlight and get back to what I was doing and I kept it on the entire power outage because it was so convenient so ya have a flashlight definitely but have one of these two headlamps are pretty unimportant lastly well not lastly second-to-last duct tape duct tape has so many uses you can even use it seal wounds you can use it to fix your tents your tarps your sleeping bags whatever there's a ton of uses for it again representation here really what I do is I usually will take a card key or a room key or you know an old expired credit card and wrap it around you can wrap it around a water bottle you can wrap it around the end of a knife handle whatever you can find a way to wrap that around something and you have to carry this big heavy ugly roll now we get to the last thing so cocky and yeah I'm guilty of not having this up until about a month ago and thanks to rogue preparedness for her video Morgan did a video on this one on these Silcock keys well I always thought you know I don't really see that any more on the sides of buildings you'll see a little door panel with a little you know kind of a hex nut on it and you open up that door panel and what you have is kind of like a faucet on the side of your house where you'd hook a hose up to but there's no handle yeah you can carry a pair of pliers and pry it open and but this is the correct key for it this also has all the different types and sizes that are used so I want to do a video on this in the future but I have to find a business around here because we don't have any on our property I have to find a business around here that's going to let me play with their water not freaked out so maybe if I can run across something that has one of those outlets on the side of their building I'll do a whole video on how to but it's very self-explanatory and simple these are like eight bucks all Mart all right it's a great way now I'm not saying to go out and use this when you go camping and find every building with one of these on you don't steal water this is for a great down shtf real disaster where you need water and you come across a building maybe in an urban environment that's got one of those on the side you can get yourself some water and there's lots of arguments for yeah if the grids down and you know maybe the water isn't working it's worth a shot so anyway that's just some basic items and what I feel are must-haves of course there's tons of other stuff you can put in your bug out bag I mean gosh there is you know food water different types of shelters there's so much more stuff you can put in there your first aid kits these are just items I seem to see a lot of people when they're very new to prepping forget or neglect you know they'll buy a cheap knockoff pocket knife and think that's their survival knife get yourself a fixed blade knife it's well worth it anyway thanks for watching I hope you guys have a great 4th of July you may not see a video from me until next week because we're gonna be really busy this week and then we have the holiday in the middle of the week so if you don't see a video for me I'll see you guys next weekend thanks for watching talk to you guys soon bye
