Solve Diabolical Sudoku Puzzles - Very Hard

all right today I'm going to show you how to solve a Sudoku puzzle that it's a hard puzzle it's in the category of diabolical in the book just means it's hard maybe a little harder than the hard section so here we go oh as on all Sudoku puzzles every one of the big squares has the digits 1 through 9 every row has 1 through 9 and every column has 1 through 9 I like to either I'll start a cross or up and down I'll start up and down right here if we look we'll start with 1 there's a 1 on the right there's a 1 on the left one of these 2 has to be a 1 I'm going to draw a 1 and a 1 and put a box around them just to help me in the future there's no there aren't any twos to work with threes no force here we go there's a 4 on the left 4 in the middle one of these 3 on this right side has to be a 4 it can't be the top so I will put 4 & 4 right here now we'll go to 5 there's not enough 5 there's nothing there to work with there's no sixes to work with we have 7 on the right 7 on the left seven in the middle nothing to do there we have 8 on the left not enough information with the 8 we have 9 in the middle there is not enough information for the 9 so we got no numbers there it's a diabolical puzzle it's hard so it'll take a little while let's go to the next big column 1 there's nothing to work with 2 we have a 2 on the left a 2 on the left a 2 on the right one of these 3 has to be a 2 it can't be the top so the twos are going to be here or here all right down twos put a box around them so that later I will know it's there 3 we have a 3 on the right we have not enough to work with okay four not enough to work with five we have a 5 in the middle 5 on the left 5 on the right one of these 2 has to be a 5 and I can see it can't be right there so I know that this box right here is a 5 so I'll put a 5 in this box and now we've gotten our first square filled and let's keep going 6 6 on the left not enough information 7 I can see that there's a 7 on the top and a 7 on the middle so one of these two on the bottom has to be a 7 I'll write down a 7 & a 7 and put a box around them that's all we get 4 7 8 nothing 4 8 9 nothing 4 9 so out of two of the big columns we've only gotten one number but don't worry it'll get better it'll it'll start coming together here one nothing to nothing to work with actually with two I see there's no two on the top no two down the middle so I know 2 has to be either here or here and I'm going to go ahead and write those and put a little loop around them because later that will help me well I'll tell you right now it will help me bottom top middle that tells me one of these two is a 2 so we're not getting very far because this is diabolical but don't worry we'll get there three middle right one of those is a three not enough information for not enough information five nope six no seven we have seven in the middle seven on the right one of these three is a seven it can't be the bottom so it has to be one of these top two seven seven okay now for eight we don't have enough information with eight to do anything now we just went through all three of the big columns we only got one number to help us out now we're going to go across and like I said the diabolical just takes a little longer but we'll get there there are no ones to work with going across - we already did three goes bottom or middle bottom one of these two is a three we can't tell what it is but I'm going to write the threes put a little blue P lying around it okay for nothing with four to work with nope not enough information with five six no seven no eight well here it interesting you can see that there's a eight across the middle and up the top so one of the four corners is an eight since we're not getting much going on here I'm going to put a little 8 up here and little 8 down here that'll tell that might come in handy later and over here not enough information 9 middle it's got to be bottom or top nothing to work with okay so this is a pretty hard puzzle let's keep going across the middle we'll start with 1 and we have nothing to work with - and we have nothing to work with 3 no 4 4 goes middle or I mean bottom top one of these two has to be a 4 it's not going to be this one so I know it's got to be that one right there so now we've gotten to now we've been working on this for a long time just to get to numbers but like I said we keep plugging away 5 we have bottom and I can see that 5 is not the bottom or up the side so 5 has to be one of these two so I'll put 5s in there and over here we don't have enough information 6 not enough nothing to work with with a 6 7 we already did right there 8 bottom not enough to work with and 9 I can see the 9 is either going to be this square or this square I'm going to go ahead and write them in just because we're not really getting much to work with so I need to get something written down so now we'll go to the bottom one we go across one is not the middle one is either going to be this square or this square because it can't be the middle that's all we have for one two nothing to work with nothing to work with three is bottom nothing to work with nothing to work with four aha we go across we see four none of these is a four now we already said this was a one so now we know this has to be a one or a four and this has to be a one or a four and that really helps us out because now we've narrowed down these three you know getting pairs like that is the trick to solving harder puzzles so for nothing else to work with five middle top bottom one of these two is a five I'll write them down six nothing to work with there nothing work with there seven we have bottom we know one of these middle has to be a seven because nothing up here can be a seven so if one of these middle is a seven and we already knew that one of those two has to be a seven the seven has to be on the top so I'll erase those little marks I had there I'll put the seven on the top now this is going to take a long time to solve as possible we'll just keep plugging through it eight not enough information on eight nine nine is interesting we have top one of these middle ones has to be a nine because those two are filled we don't know which one it is but we know top middle bottom this cannot be a nine so nine has to be on that corner down there so I'll put the nine right here and we're getting somewhere and now earlier I wrote down that nine would be here or here well it can't be there so nine must be here and we've gone through a lot of this puzzle and we're just now finally starting to get a little bit of um information going here I've gone down each column I've gone across each column now I can go down each column again but what I think I'd like to do is do a couple other little tricks for example this is missing for answers this is missing for answers so I can work and try to narrow it down I can see in this first column the numbers that are missing I'll just write them up top little one - we have three we're missing four five six so these numbers have to be one two four or six well this can't be a four and it can't be a two if it can't be a four or a - I know it's one or six so I'm going to write one six and circle it this one it can't be a four it can be a one two or six I don't write them if there are three this one cannot be a two and it cannot be a four if it's not a two and it's not a four then it has to be a 1 or a 6 so I have a 1 6 right here now I know if this is a 1 into 6 and this is a 1 in a 6 this has to be a 2 or a 4 and this has to be a 2 or a 4 so all right in 2 4 + 2 4 still haven't gotten any answers from all that but it's narrowing some things down now I do the same thing I'll race these numbers up top I'll do the same thing with the middle section 1 2 is used 3 is used for is used 5 6 7 is used 8 so this column is missing 1 5 6 & 8 if I look here there's a 5 so that's 1 6 or 8 not enough information this is an 8 that's a 1 5 or 6 nothing nothing that I can find out there this 5 & 6 are both used it's not a 5 or 6 so this number has to be a 1 or an 8 and down here this is not a 1 so it has to be 5 6 or 8 but it can't be a 5 it's not a 1 or a 5 so this is 6 8 still haven't gotten any answers yet but I'm going to look and see if there are any other that have four or fewer blanks and when I look 1 2 3 4 5 that's kind of a lot if we look 1 2 3 4 5 across here though we have 1 2 3 4 5 1 2 3 4 there's four across the bottom so what are we missing let me erase these numbers up here across the bottom we're missing one two three four five six seven eight nine so one four five six this is not a 1 or a 4 if it's not a 1 or a 4 then it has to be a 5 or a 6 and this has to be a five or a six now if these are both five or six this has to be one or four and this has to be one or four this can't be a four so it has to be a one if that's a one then this is a four and not only that but if this is a 1 and this has to be 1 or 8 then this is an 8 and this is how we we just keep plugging away getting rid of numbers and it takes a long time oh and if this is an 8 and this is a six or an eight then this has to be a six and now we have figured out these top two numbers because these top two numbers have to be 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 these have to be 1 or 5 this is 1 or 5 and this is 1 or 5 that is a 5 so it tells me that this has to be a 1 and this has to be a 5 now if this is a one that had to be 1 or 6 that means it has to be 6 and we just keep plugging away this way also now we have 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 this is 2 or 4 and this is 2 or 4 but that is a 4 so that means this one has to be a 2 and you just keep going oh and if that's a 2 this is a 4 and if that's a 4 this is 2 or 4 it has to be a 2 and I should I'm trying to kind of go fast because these videos get really long I should clean up and get rid of a lot of those marks that I have put but so you see how oh and now I know right off the bat what this has to be there's one thing missing 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 I'm sorry 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 that has to be an 8 and then I glanced over I had written that this is eight or eight so that eight has to be up top and these these hard ones they just take a while but they're not they're not impossible they just take time now oh I can also tell you that if this is a six that was one or six this has to be one so now I've completed that column that column I'm down to three numbers right here so I may as well see what they are 1 2 3 4 5 6 so 3 5 6 3 5 6 well I know that this is a 3 or 6 doesn't do me a lot of good but I'll go ahead and write it and this is 3 5 6 and this is 3 5 6 oh look here there's a 4 that was a 1 or a 4 that means this is a 1 now that I've filled in a lot of oh and I also know what these two are because I can see that it goes 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 so these are three or nine so I'm going to erase these threes and write 3 or 9 and put a circle around it and 3 or 9 and what that does is it narrows down what can be in the rest of the boxes in that square now at this point I see there are 4 across here I can go ahead and try this one but what I first I know what these two are so 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 so these are 2 or 3 I'll write 2 3 & 2 3 right here and then ah this is 5 or 6 so I already know what this number has to be it has to be 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 this has to be an 8 and now if I am want to go back and start doing my top middle bottom technique I have a lot more to work with I could look through and see what these three numbers are one two there three four five six seven eight nine three seven nine three seven nine three seven nine there's a three so I know that this is a seven nine doesn't do me a lot of good but any little thing you can write down helps alright now I could keep looking in the columns like I did in but I think since I got so many new numbers here I'm going to go back to going top middle bottom across and see what I can find so one on top one has to be one of those three one has to be one of those two nothing there two goes bottom top middle no help there three goes middle bottom top no help there ah but I see three is on the outside three is on the outside so that tells me one of these two in the middle has to be a three because if you have a three on the Left a 3 on the right and a 3 on the left or three on the right the only thing left is the middle so I was up to three let's go to four top four has to be one of those three not enough info five five five is on the bottom not enough information four five six top one of those three is a six not enough information seven bottom top one of these is a seven we don't know which one it is there's not enough information eight goes bottom top middle nine goes top or ma middle there is no top so the bottom one of these two has to be a nine and if one of those two has to be a nine middle bottom there one of those two has to be 9 alright so we went through this we didn't get we got some more information we didn't get any answers now let's do the middle one goes top middle bottom one of these two has to be a 1 but one of these two also has to be a 7 so that tells me that this is a 1 or a 7 and the one next to it has to be a 1 or a 7 now this one needed to be one of these two is a to the bottom cannot be a 2 because it has to be a 1 or a 7 so that tells me two is in the middle and this is how we this is how we solve these puzzles ah I have two on top two on middle one of these two has to be a two and I'll put a little blue P liner on it but look one of these two outside has to be a 2 one of these two outside has to be a tube that means one of these two in the middle must be a tube a the two has to be one of these it can't be that so the two goes right here that had one of those had to be a one so the one has to go right here and now I'll erase a little bit there just to keep it a little cleaner so I'll go back again one top bottom middle I know now that the one has to be here or here to bottom top middle good three middle bottom one of those is a three four top aha for has to be not the left not the right one of these two is a four five one of these bottoms who has to be a five so I will write down five and five and now I'll move on to six top not enough information for six seven not enough information for seven eight is done and nine middle bottom top okay now we just keep moving on we went across the top now we go across the bottom we have one one one two two two we don't know where three is here three has to be in the top two in the top two aha three has to be in the top two and three has to be in the top two so the top top that means one of these three bottom ones has to be a three we already said this was three or six so that has to be a three and now before I even go any further I already know what these two are so I might as well write them down one two three four five six seven eight nine these are two or six so I'm going to write these down as two or six and now I'll continue with my pattern 1 1 1 2 2 2 3 not enough information 4 4 4 5 oh I know what these two are so I need to write them down 1 2 3 4 5 6 these are 5 or 6 so I will write in 5 or 6 on both of these and then I think I was up to six six is on the top two six has to be one of these two I might as well write it down six is one of these two seven eight AHA eight eight one of these two is eight and one of these two is eight and then nine goes bottom any of those aha nine is not on the bottom it's not up here that means these are eight or nine so if this is eight or nine and this is eight or nine my eye goes up nine has to be one of those two this can't this is a three or nine it can't be a nine so that means this is a three and if this is a three this has to be a nine and we just keep plugging away like this and it's the diabolical ones they're just very hard as all they are aha I know what these are I can see right here one two three four five six seven eight nine these are three or five so I'm going to write in three or five right here and then that tells me automatically if these are fives this one cannot be a five if it is not a five we already know it's a five or a six if it cannot be a five it has to be a six so therefore this has to be a five and this is how we solve these puzzles we just keep put up and this is the five that cannot be a five so that means this has to be a five one of those had to be a 4 so the top one has to be a 4 and I should clean up some of these marks I usually don't leave it so sloppy but I'm trying to go fast we automatically know what this has to be 1 2 3 4 5 6 this is a 6 7 8 9 aha that's a 6 this had to be 2 or 6 it can't be a 6 or might be a 2 and this had to be 2 or 6 it can't be a 2 so it must be a 6 aha this was a 2 that had to be 2 or 3 it can't be a 2 so it must be a 3 and that had to be 2 or 3 it can't be a 3 so it must be a 2 and now we've been working at this for a long time but we're getting somewhere and I believe I was going across here it gets after a while you forget where you are now let's check it one more time top middle bottom for the ones 2 2 to 3 is top 2 3 is not here so one of those is a 3 4 4 4 5 is top-25 is top - okay 6 is bottom top to top - 7 ok 8 + 9 is bottom and that's all we have so now I've gone across the top I've gone across the bottom oh but I also see right now what these have to be because there's only two left so I should go ahead and figure them out 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 these have to be 4 or 9 4 or 9 but this one can't be a 4 if this one can't be a for this one must be a 4 and this one must be a 9 and that's what we do now I can I know what these three in the middle are so I just check and see if that gives us it might give us some information at night might not 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 these three have to be 1 6 or 7 so this one is not a 1 so this has to be a 6 or 7 that's not a six so it's got to be a 1 or a 7 and this one we don't have enough information so we've gone across across across now let's go down down down or I could also if I wanted to I could start going down the columns again but I think I'll go down down down so here we go middle left right for the one two left right three is left three is middle three four four four five one of those two is five five six six six seven seven seven eight eight eight nine nine nine I get no information there let's check the middle and see one all right here there's a one right above it that had to be a 1 or a 7 that is a 7 if that's a 7 that's a 1 if this is a 1 that can't be a 1 so this has to be one now that tells me let me erase a little bit but that tells me that these two numbers have to be 6 or 7 I'm going to go ahead and write them both in and I really normally don't I'm not normally this sloppy but I'm trying to go fast because these videos take forever to do a hard puzzle we just got that taken care of and I just lost my train of thought I don't remember Phi's going up and down or sideways I think I just went up and down so I'll go up and down again here just to see 1 1 1 2 2 2 3 one of these is a 3 not enough information 3 that tells me that one of these 2 is a 3 4 4 4 5 5 5 6 1 of those 2 is a 6 ok 7 up here's a seven in the middle that has to be six or seven it can't be a seven so it has to be a six and this has to be a seven and now if this is a seven this was a seven or a nine it can't be a seven it must be a nine and now I know what that one has to be it has to be one two three four five six seven eight nine this has to be a six and solving these hard puzzles you just keep going you you don't you can't let yourself get frustrated and in just got to be patient I see there's only two missing here I might as well fill in what they are one two three four five six seven eight nine this is three or nine this is three or nine that can't be a nine so it has to be a three if that's a three this has to be a nine there's only one thing left here so let's fill it in one two three four five six seven and now I don't know what these two are but I'm gonna write them in and see what they are whoops drop the pencil all right so we should have one two three four five six seven eight nine these are three or eight so I'm going to erase this on the right in three or eight and three or eight now I can see that I have eight on the top two eight on the top two eight has to be bottom three on the top two three other two up two three has to be on the bottom so that didn't do me a whole lot of good we're dangerously close to having this solved ah right here this is a six that had to be five or six it can't be a six that must be a five therefore this must be a six now I go across this is a five this had to be three or five it can't be a five so it must be a three if this is a three this must be a five and now we're getting somewhere this is a three this had to be three or eight it can't be in a three so it must be an eight this was three or eight it can't be an eight so it must be a three this is an eight that can't that has to be a eight or a nine it can't be an eight so it must be a nine this is eight or nine it can't be a nine so it must be an eighth coup and we just did it we solved a diabolical puzzle it took a long time but we kept plugging away I hope you learn something from this and thank you for watching and I'll maybe I'll post one of the X ones later or I'll
