having sent certain young men of the Israelites to offer holocaust and sacrifice young bulls as peace offerings to the Lord Moses took half of the blood and put it in large bowls the other half who splashed on the altar taking the book of the Covenant he read it aloud to the people who answered all that the Lord has said he will heed and do then he took the blood and sprinkled it on the people Christ came as high priest about the good things that have come to be passing through the greater and more perfect Tabernacle not made by hands that is not belonging to this creation he entered once for all into the sanctuary not with the blood of goats and calves but with his own blood thus obtaining eternal redemption for if the blood of goats and bulls and the sprinkling of the heifers ashes can sanctify those who are defiled so that their flesh is cleansed how much more will the blood of Christ who through the Eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God cleanse our consciences from [Music] let's you of Angele sancti evangelii secundum Marcum [Music] on the first day of the Feast of the unleavened bread when they sacrificed the Passover lamb Jesus's disciples said to him where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the Passover he sent two of his disciples and said to them go into the city and a man will meet you carrying a jar of water follow him wherever he enters say to the master of the house the teacher says where is my guest room where I made the Passover with my disciples then he will show you a large upper room for Nash Conrad he makes the preparations for us the disciples then went off into the city and found it just as he had told them and they prepared the Passover while they were eating he took bread said the blessing broke it gave it to them and said take it this is my body then he took a cup gave thanks and gave it to them and they all drank from it he said to them this is the blood of the Covenant which will be shed for man and I say to you I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God and after singing a hymn they went out to the Mount of all that one Domini [Music] before I begin to administer the very powerful sedative called the homily father Matthew asked me to offer a few words of thanks so while you're still alert let me do that our gratitude father's gratitude especially to all of you who are present especially his family and friends who traveled from a distance to be here father also extends his appreciation to our sisters the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration and not only for their welcome and their kindness today and having all of us here but also for the beautiful singing that they are providing for today's liturgy a word of gratitude as well to father Paschal in to father Miguel for their organization and putting everything together for today's mass and the procession and especially to father Miguel for emceeing father's Mass of Thanksgiving and finally an invitation on behalf of father Marc and on all of the Friars after the procession today there is a reception in the castle in honor of father Matthew and we invite all of you all of you are welcome to stop there the Eucharist is our super abundance of spiritual sustenance that doesn't come close but it's still good and so please come and join us at the reception prior to the apparitions of our Blessed Mother to the three little shepherd children in Fatima the little seers were visited three times by an angel and the angel who identified himself as the angel of peace and the guardian of Portugal encouraged the children to be more diligent in prayer and he stirred up in them a sincere love of Jesus really truly and substantially present in the Most Blessed Sacrament one of the simple prayers that the angel taught the children to pray is my god I believe I adore I trust and I love you I ask pardon for those who do not believe do not add or do not trust and do not love you my god I believe I adore I trust and I love you the Eucharist is the sacrament of faith it is the sacrament of hope it is the sacrament of love and is worthy of absolute and total adoration from our heart an entire beam first the Eucharist is the sacrament of faith every time we say Amen and receive Holy Communion we reconfirm our belief in all that we professed at the time of our baptism Saint Francis of Assisi wrote as Jesus appeared to the Holy Apostles in true flesh so now he reveals himself to us and the sacred bread and as they saw only his flesh by means of their bodily sigh yet believed him to be God as they contemplated him with the eyes of faith so as we see bread and wine with our bodily eyes we too are to see and firmly believe them to be his most holy body and blood living and truth so when we come before the Blessed Sacrament we behold with the eyes of faith the Eternal Word made flesh the Eternal Word consubstantial with the father for all eternity having no beginning and no end he who is I am the author of time and space who through the mystery of his incarnation humbled himself and freely chose to wit live within the bounds of history and to walk upon this earth embracing the limitations of our human nature in order to restore us to a relationship with the Father to bridge access to heavenly life and the communion that was lost by the sin of our first parents with the eyes of faith we see Christ who from his heart his Sacred Heart preached the message of a new life and who in his body restored sight to the blind healing to the death speech to the mute he made the lame walk healed the leper cast out demons and forgave the sinner this is the same Jesus who in his Eucharistic presence we receive adore and encounter this is the same Jesus who in the Eucharist speaks to our hearts the word of life and who accompanies us on our journey taking away our blindness and restoring our ability to hear to walk and to know the liberation of forgiveness with eyes of faith we see upon the altar in an unbloody manner our Redeemer who in his flesh shed his blood and died for us upon the cross and whose body was laid in the tomb we see with eyes of faith the one who in his body rose from the dead and who in his glorified body appeared to his disciples and after 40 days ascended in that glorified body to heaven where he is seated eternally at the right hand of the Father this is the Jesus who with the eyes of faith and the heart of a believer we behold and adore in the treasure of the Most Blessed Sacrament the text of the Sacred Liturgy and of the beautiful hymns of adoration penned by st. Thomas Aquinas for the solemnity of Corpus Christi capture the reality of the Eucharist as the sacrament of hope and the preface of the mass which speaks of the fruits of the Most Holy Eucharist we pray we approach the table of this wondrous sacrament so that bathed in the sweetness of your grace we may pass over to the heavenly realities here foreshadowed looking at the beautiful hem the Pawnee Sun jela coos this is what we chant this is what we pray the bread of angels becomes the bread of men a wonder of it all the poor the slave the lowly eat of their Lord O triune deity may you visit us as we worship you lead us in your footsteps as we strive toward the light wherein you dwell and in the hem theodoro today vote a Jesus whom I look at shrouded here below I beseech thee send me what I thirst for so some day to gaze on the face to face in light and be blessed for ever with thy glorious sight when there's a beautiful Eucharistic hymn or a scovia tourim which is not attributed to st. Thomas Aquinas but is worthy of mention nonetheless he's not the only Eucharistic guy out there and then the OS cavia tourim we say o food to pilgrims given bread of the hosts of heaven thou mana of the sky we love the Jesus tender who hides thine awful splendor beneath these veils of grace let the vales be Riven and our clear I in heaven behold the face to face the manna in the desert was for the Israelites the bread of hope it nourish them for 40 years as they wandered in the desert on their way to the land of promise and the manna ceased on the eve before Joshua led the people across the Jordan into the Promised Land Jesus the true bread come down from heaven in is is in the Eucharist the bread of hope for the believers nourishing and strengthening us on our way to the fulfillment of promise in heavenly life the Eucharist as much as we venerate or adore and love our Lord present in the Eucharist the Eucharist ceases once the soul passes over into the beatific vision so the last time we receive Holy Communion is when we receive the attic home the communion we receive right before we pass this Bread of Hope ceases when we behold God face to face and the soul takes its seat at the wedding feast of the Lamb the Eucharist is the sacrament of charity insofar as the sacrifice of the mass is the representation of the self-same sacrifice of Christ at Calvary in an unbloody manner in the memorial sacrifice we offer what has made present upon the altar is the pinnacle of the manifestation of God's love for man the supreme sacrifice whereby the Son of God died for our salvation and rose again to give us life what did Jesus say no greater love and that's what we see as he laid down his life for his friend for each of us God so loved the world that He gave us His only Son and that son says to us no greater love and this is what is made manifest for us upon the altar and two brief points about love are the Eucharist as the sacrament of charity love by its very nature unites in marriage it makes two people one in the body of Christ it makes all of us one as members of the mystical body of Christ our receiving of the Holy Eucharist renews and deepens our communion with God it makes us more one with him it strengthens and expands that divine indwelling received in Baptism you might say that in fully Communion and even in Eucharistic Adoration the bounds of our hearts are broadened and deep deepened affecting a greater capacity for love and so for God Himself who is love and as a result of this we are renewed in the Christian life this love is broadened and deepened in us this capacity for God is increased in us so is our capacity to love one another the other members of the body of Christ the other point is that jesus said the father and I are one he who sees me sees the father and what was his prayer for he prayed to the Father asking that Vey all of us that they may be one with me as I father am one with you and this oneness this unity is affected by the gift of His Holy Spirit who is loved and by our reception of Holy Communion we pray in the third Eucharistic prayer we make reference to this that this communion is effected by the working of the Spirit and our reception of the Eucharist this is what we pray in the third Eucharistic prayer grant that we who are nourished by the body and blood of your son and filled with His Holy Spirit may become one body one spirit in Christ now to revive you just a little bit to come up for water with me to speak briefly to father Matthew father our brother we extend to you our most sincere congratulations all of our love and happiness are with you today as well as the same congratulations our love to your parents James and Beverley and to your family and friends what I would remind all of you especially his parents father Matthew is still the same guy whose diapers you changed and who caused you a little grief every now and then as he grew up it's just that now he happens to be ontologically changed and he's a priest forever indelibly marked as a priest of Jesus Christ and then if I could just speak within the community some inside things that probably only the Friars would understand Father we are so happy that you are now back with us in Alabama and I know although all of us rejoice in that your dear dear friend brother Leo is especially happy for your return and we all know why and I would just say to you now that you're back let's get to work on that calendar father mark has assigned you Father to minister primarily here at the shrine for the first several years of your priesthood what a wonderful opportunity that is offering mass in such a beautiful place you have the witness of our sisters and their adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and just their goodness to interact with them you have the opportunity to spend time in personal prayer here the church is beautiful but especially before our Lord exposed in that awesome awesome monstrance and your time here will strengthen your own love for the Blessed Sacrament but through your pastoral ministry and your words of preaching through your administration of the sacraments most especially their daily offering of the Holy Mass you will help to increase our faith to strengthen our hope and to deepen our love through your example of personal holiness and your witness of reverence and devotion you will guide all of us toward a greater adoration of Jesus truly present in the Blessed Sacrament the church teaches us that the Lord is present among his people in a most singular manner in his real presence in the Most Holy Eucharist and the same adoration due to God is the same adoration that is due to Christ and the Blessed sac the same adoration that is due to God himself is the same adoration that is due to our Lord in the Eucharist and so imagine angels falling down before him in love aw and adoration envisioned our Blessed Mother vowed in prayer in the presence of God and this is what the church seeks to remind us of today and invites us to imitate holding nothing back in the adoration that we show before the living body blood soul and divinity of Christ made present on the altar in this mass of Thanksgiving and whom we honor in the Eucharistic procession on this the solemnity of Corpus Christi by God I believe I adore I trust and I love you amen I believe in one God the Father Almighty maker of heaven and earth of all things visible and invisible I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God born of the father before all ages God from God light from light true God from True God begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end I believe in the Holy Spirit the Lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets I believe in one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins never forward to the rest of actually the dead in the life of the world to come by offering his sacred body and blood for us Jesus reconciles the world to the Father therefore we can present our needs to God with confidence with love and reverence and lead many souls to a deeper faith in the Most Blessed Sacrament we pray to the Lord Lord that our government leaders may recognize the dignity and rights of every man created in God's image and redeemed by Christ precious blood we pray to the lord for those troubled with physical mental or emotional distress may our Eucharistic Lord healed them and make him strong in his love we pray to the Lord for all poor Clare nuns of Perpetual Adoration around the world that they will always be faithful to their mission of perpetually adoring our Eucharistic king and a spirit of Thanksgiving we pray to the Lord for all of the family and friends of father Matthew both those who have traveled for his ordination and his first mass and for those at home may they receive every grace and blessing that flows from this Holy Mass we pray to the Lord for father Matthew's godmother sue who was suffering from leukemia that she may experience the healing power of Christ's grace especially as it comes to her through our Lord's Eucharistic presence we pray to the Lord for father Matthew in Thanksgiving for the gift of his priesthood and for father Anthony on this his day his 18th anniversary of his ordination and all other priests those who celebrate anniversaries during this time of the year we pray to the Lord that those who have died may share in the eternal life that jesus promised to those who eats his flesh and drink his blood we pray to the Lord father as we celebrate the solemnity of the most holy body and blood of Christ our faith hope and love are renewed grant that we may possess eternally in love what we now worship in faith we make our prayer through Christ our Lord [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Murata treacherous with manifest from soccer pitch him after they feared a podium patrimony potent front porch or tree Oh Lord we pray the kiss of unity and peace who saw so to be seen in the story in the offerings we hear present through Christ our Lord [Music] don't lose focus school [Music] so some court [Music] Graci Tommy no stroll [Music] it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks Lord Holy Father Almighty and eternal God through Christ our Lord for at the Last Supper with his apostles establishing for the edges to calm the saving memorial of the cross he offered himself to you as the unblemished lie the acceptable gift our perfect prayers nourishing your faithful by the sacredness to be you make them holy so that the human race mounted by warm world may be enlightened by bond faith and united by worn bonds of charity and so we approach the table of this wondrous sacrament so that faith in the sweetness of your critics we may pass over to the heavenly realities here foreshadowed therefore all creatures of heaven and earth sing a new song and [Music] and we with all the hosts of angels cry all turned without unreadable Claire [Music] to you therefore most merciful father we make humble prayer and petition through Jesus Christ your son our heaven to you O God his Almighty father giving you thanks he said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you [Music] in a similar way when supper was ended he took the precious chalice in his holy and venerable hands and once more giving you thanks he said the blessing and gave the chalice to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of My Blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the
