well mrs wizard should be here any minute hopefully she didn't go on a joy ride [Applause] there she goes here she comes what a beautiful car it is this is a 94 silversburg oh yeah it is beautiful it is massive well let's get it on the lift to take a look at this thing yeah totally so welcome back to the wizard shop guys it's bentley rolls-royce week here in the shop apparently because we've been getting these over and over again i guess because we work on them and we do good work we just finished two azures that are all done and back on the road again and happy customers now we have the arnage which you just seen here a while back and we also have this beautiful 94 silver spurs in excellent shape really really good shape however what customer just bought this they didn't have it very long and the ac compressor completely locked up i mean really locked up soon as we take a look at it you'll see how bad it is we're going to talk about air conditioning today what happens with it and even the best of the cars suffer from ac woes let's open the hood and take a look this is a 94 but it would be very similar setup to the arnage that you guys just seen it's a turbo six and three quarter liter rolls royce v8 i mentioned in the arnage video that was a rolls-royce v8 and you can see that rolls-royce just because it says bentley on it doesn't mean it's a bentley engine it's a rolls-royce engine we're going to remove this little shroud here and we're going to take a look at the ac compressor and you're going to see what i'm talking about let me grab a wrench okay get this upper engine cover off handy shelves we got an estate sale here we can see the ac compressor it looks like someone poured melted tar all over it but that's not melted tar that's what's left of the belt guys it's like charred marshmallows it locked up so hard i mean so hard that it melted the belt it absolutely cooked the belt i mean it's it's really really bad this is complete catastrophic ac system failure this is one of those situations i've told you guys about that when it happens it is a complete ac system replacement or don't come to my shop this is just the way it is i'm going to show you why here in a little bit but let's go ahead and take a look around this engine before we do this has individual coils i really like this as opposed to the old distributors if you have a cylinder misfire you take care of it right here you don't have to do any guesswork amazingly it's fuel injected i really like that this is very similar to the azures that we had in here recently same engine let me show you guys something on this air conditioning fiasco what happens why what happens when this seizes up like that what is the result of that let's take a look so i'll give you guys a little story before we dive in here a few years ago i actually had a customer bring me a kia and the ac compressor was locked up just like you saw here on the rolls royce it was locked up tighter than a drum and i quoted him it was going to be like seventeen hundred dollars for a complete system replacement and the guy got mad at me he argued with him and he said it only needs a compressor i told him i said they're not going to warranty it unless we replace everything because it will have destroyed the whole system he said you're just trying to rip me off car wizard i don't need the whole system just replace the compressor i said i will do that under one circumstance you sign a waiver that says if it fails which it will within the next week and he said bs right there he said bs i said you sign a waiver saying that you waive all warranty completely on this car and i'll do the job but the moral the story was i said i told you it's gonna lock up within a week it was actually four days and the guy came in the office screaming cussing me i said nothing has happened here that i didn't tell you was going to happen so he left with his tail but tucked between his legs and he didn't have anywhere to go and i heard a couple weeks later he was at another shop finally getting the whole ac system replaced he just didn't have the gall to have me do it place it sounds like you would just need an ac compressor and so many people say i don't understand why it's seventeen hundred dollars and in this case almost four thousand because we're dealing with rolls-royce parts you're not going to get cheap labor cheap prices on a rolls royce you're looking at the wrong car but let me show you what happens when this seizes up why do you have to replace the whole system let's take a look so here i have a failed compressor that did the same thing as the rolls-royce one did it seized up completely ruined the whole system and i set this on end and let it drain for a while and this is what came out look at all that metal guys metal shrapnel chunks of steel and aluminum so you say well that's just in the compressor car wizard no it's not because when it was failing in the process of seizing up it was shooting all these fragments and all these pieces into the expansion valve there's pieces inside of this one into the evaporator core all these tiny little passages are filled with that metal shrapnel so let's say okay okay i'm just going to do the compressor that's all i have the money to do so you take the old compressor off and we'll pretend that now this is a new compressor you put the brand new compressor on and then all the little pieces in here that you're not going to get out because it you're not going to flush this and get the pieces out because they're stuck inside this tiny little orifice and you're not going to flush the evaporator core because there's pieces that are lodged inside these tiny passages that are not going to come out by flushing it so you put your new compressor on and over time eventually these pieces do work themselves loose and they're back in circulation again back in the ac system and they make their way back to your brand new compressor it scores the cylinders inside of it locks it up and then you go into mechanic and you cuss him out so whenever you have this happen a compressor lock up it's a complete system replacement when you have all the pieces off you go through and flush the lines those can be flushed all the steel lines and aluminum lines and things of that nature they're large enough that you can flush the particles out of those every manufacturer that i've ever dealt with that makes ac compressors will clearly stay in their warranty paperwork warranty void if you don't also replace the entire system the condenser the expansion valve dryer all the different pieces of the ac system if you just slap a compressor on and it locks up and you go try to claim warranty they're going to say can we please see the receipts for all the other parts that you also replace that are required to replace before we'll honor your warranty and then you say oh well i i didn't replace those and they'll say bye felicia you're not getting a warranty okay car wizard so if you have to replace all those parts why don't they sell them all together in one packet they do it's called an ac compressor replacement kit do they sell them separately yeah you can get each individual piece separately but they usually have compressor kits that has all everything included through my suppliers they sell kits like that but that's what makes it so expensive to do the repair right and to make it to be something that's going to last for years you have to replace all those parts otherwise this is what you're left with and you can just keep doing that put a new compressor on and do it again and again so that gives you the moral of the story there now let's get this car on the lift and let's take a look at this beautiful car [Music] [Music] here we are again mrs wizard with another heavy heavy beast he is a behemoth here's our radiator again nice and clean no leaks see a little aftermarket red horn in there beep beep take a look there's urge you've got some seepage over here yep that needs a new hose and a hose clamp that won't be too big of a deal very very easy to fix now see there's a little bit of seepage here but that may be from the compressor failure and i think it is it's like a greenish greenish color to it just spewed its guts there's some minor seepage here that's coming from up above again that could have been the compressor but regardless it's not really enough to rip the engine all apart take a look at these wheels brakes are good nothing loose take a look at this one brakes are nice and thick nothing loose let's check the sway bars nice and tight nice and tight move on back to the transmission and the engine oil pan nice and dry a little bit of seepage not really anything to like i said to get deep into it and we're not really worth it at this point here's our transmission actuator just like we saw on the arnage it has a linkage and it goes to the shifter arm there so when you put it in the gear it's all electronic there's nothing mechanical about it at all drive shaft nice and tight exhaust looks good here's another u-joint another u-joint three of them i don't see anything leaking differentials nice and dry let's check the back brakes look good cv shaft boot looks good that boot looks good nothing leaking on the rear suspension rear shock go over here that boots good that one's good nothing leaking on the suspension there brake pads are good nothing loose this one for the age is in really good shape here's our one single big muffler there's our battery tray and our spare tire this one's pretty nice mrs wizard yeah it's really good shape let's lower it down and look at the exterior and take a look at the interior wizard oh sorry get your hands off the lady [Music] metal quintessential rolls royce some people say these do look like a lincoln and i guess they could from a distance but that pretty much gives it away there this has a euro style headlamps on it some of these older models had actually the old lincoln square double headlights that was mandated in the 70s and 80s but these have the euro headlights on it the beautiful spirit of ecstasy there we'll go around the side very very nice shape this is almost like a greenish color gray gunmetal i guess you would call it paint's in very good shape it's not dented not scratched i don't believe that this is a repaint i believe this is original and it is a silver spur 3. that's the model let's take a look at the huge trunk big big big trunk oh hey here's our air conditioner remnants of the belts look at the glaze on there it just cracks apart this ac compressor literally cooked the belts not to within an inch of their life but completely out of their life completely ruined them wow rolls royce original belts made in denmark this is the little smog pump belt i believe wow okay well let's continue on nice hand cook optima tires optimo i guess you'd say the roof is in good shape the roof the roof and no dents no scratches this is one of the best conditioned silver spurs that i've seen out of the several that i've seen in the shop this one takes the cake it is the best condition one i've ever seen let's take a look at the interior guys this interior is in beautiful beautiful shape this is my favorite interior of the rolls royces the big blocky flat dash no rounded no weird stuff going on it's just very very solid looking amazingly the condition is so good for such high miles you can tell that it was maintained and it's got the dainty little shifter that they had back in the days and this is a crazy it was just so delicate i was like is this really the gear shifter and it is it's almost like a turn signal well it's electronic like we saw on the underneath and it's designed that way because when you get into your rolls royce and you're going to go take off somewhere you don't want it to be like an 06 silverado where it goes clock clunk into gear that's not what a rolls-royce is about it's very dainty it's very quiet and very gentle and very simple controls i prefer these over some of the newer models because they're just they're very classic looking all the leather everything and this is all leather is in very very good shape the headliner is in very good shape and the rear seats which is the longer model being a silver spur is also in very very good shape this is really a really nice car i love this car as opposed to our knobs we just looked at the interior on this is more color coordinated as far as matching it's a light gray and a dark gray it's not beige and purple it's more matching colors and you can see it has the dark gray piping on the seats some of these rolls royces will have white piping or red or different colors but that's something you don't get on a ford fusion so i definitely wanted you guys to see how beautiful this rolls royce is this is my favorite generation of rolls-royces and it also proves that as much money as you can spend on one of these cars they still have failures just like every other car and as far as ac concern this was the worst failure you can have absolute worst am sorry that it happened to the guy but it's got to get fixed you don't drive a rolls-royce without ac and get it going so the tools we're going to use to fix this are listed in the amazon affiliates page and a link below and if you haven't hit the subscribe button already i really recommend you do that now we got many many more cool videos to come thanks for watching you
