hello again folks first of all appalled use for the pure image quality in this video and have them then quite across the board just so you can see what I'm doing so sorry about that in this video you can be yet another surface-mount ordering tutorial and in this video I'm going to show you the technique of drag children which is a really effective and really simple technique that you can use every don't have solder paste as it allows you to use standard off-the-shelf offer Bill Sauder to surface mount IC onto your PCB so that's what we're going to do in this video and we'll just get straight on and start the process so the first thing we're going to want to do is ten one of the cards note let's pulley as enough sorted on the existing plans I've removed this IC to put it back on why as you can see there's quite a better sort on here but put a tiny bit more just on there to turn up if you did on a brand new PCB then of course you will need to turn it 100% and but all we need to do is less than the IC one sort under to get it roughly in position to fight might actually be easier just to use my fingers in this case is quite a large chip and all we're going to do is reflow that so that will just act on there to act as an anchor for the chip so that is it on there is relatively well on cube and fight I will probably turn up the opposite corner as well as a smaller package I can actually on an S or sixteen something like that then of course you probably won't need to do both sides but there we go it's on the board is aligned it's not going on it on going anywhere so now we're going to do is pop some flux in the board in this case we're using this Amtech lm-80 to see whether it's genuine or not I'm not sure and I've got one here prepped for the nozzle one and all we're going to do is put a small bead of solder I sort of saw leaf locks and up the sides but melih meter wide not too much like so and then this is the this a main event if you hate if this is actually going to sort out all those weeds essentially in one go I mean tubal is one go each day in the schools so all we're going to do is turn that iron and put the tiniest amount I saw it on there like so and then apply that on there and then try get up the side okay and we'll do the same on the side again just the tiniest amount and then drag it up maybe it's among there and that should be a job done you can go over a couple of times if you want and just to make sure but of course it's all in this the visual inspection so welfare silver on we no need to clean off the and clean off the flocks using some isopropyl alcohol and I'm just using one of these they're anti-static brushes of course it's not essential to do this but it is best practice so if you've got it round definitely definitely do if you've got it see best practice we can blow off like a extra I should pop off the hole there and I'll just make sure at that end and connections needs because there wasn't much solder actually there isn't much solder on it plus the fact that it's quite a big stuff this area too ticky up so it probably wouldn't of that taken to well that makes sense there we go so what makes a colony inspection and that's all do now I've use this lens a projector that are salvaged and we can have a look and see how it works so that doesn't look too bad we can see we've got a short layer on the end but the rest on that side that's good and if we kept the boards up and to get in focus I think again there's the media shot on that end but spend the board around like sha course an inspection may be slightly better like no that one does appear to be fine but yeah there was a nice nice enough joints and we'll just clean that shortly and we'll just use their issues of iron to do that try and get on camera using the lens again what we can do is just heat up the joint what this is quite difficult to do a left-handed heat of the joint and there we go is that cleared back double check nice clean really possible to see get it to focus you now go go that focused night and I really doesn't want to clear out of that there we go got the alien ventually and of course today I will protect Lucado at les borders just an old PCB but of course if you if you aren't clear on shorts be careful when it comes to the temperature and how long it all yet ionic you don't want to you want to damage the chip the success of heat and yeah quite a nice job not too bad at all certainly going to be functional of course with hobbyist guys not professionals but group take a bit a tradable working get the best job we can do and you know if we've got a little bit too much tools on there you know did we really care as long as its function when it does the job you know what then they will be happy but there we go guys that was a brief introduction to drag children it just takes a little bit of time to get a technique and you know occasionally I'll do it I see occasionally the majority of time if I'm doing drag children then I don't have shorts but yeah you just need to get a feel for how much solder you need to use and you know and you will eventually get we just be straight a long straight a long job done you don't need to go back and rework it but anyway I'm blathering on again as I often do hope you've found out so hopefully you found that useful if you dead as always please give me thumbs up if you didn't give me a Thunderstone and as always if you haven't already done so and you'd like to by all means please subscribe until next time guys take care yourself all the best
