[Music] which vehicles hold their value the best hmm in this video we're gonna count down the top 10 best resale value vehicles for 2019 but there is a surprise that's right most of these are trucks and this list was brought to us by our friends at kbb.com Kelly Blue Book well let's kick it off with number 10 that's right it's the Porsche of makan well this was no truck no but this very interesting Porsches had a really great year in 2018 yeah most of their vehicles are growing in sales in the big way they can't build enough 911s huh but the makan also grew and they sold in 2018 the whole year twenty three and a half thousand SUVs for the makan itself that's not too bad for Porsche numbers no it's not too bad considering some of them are very expensive you can option them up into the hundred thousand dollar range yeah they're really pricey yeah but after so the way KBB does this is they show us the three year depreciation mark and then the five year depreciation mark and this list is ordered by the five year value which for the Porsche Macan is fifty percent so you lose or yeah fifty percent of its value over five years but the interesting part after three years it's only about sixty five percent value remaining so it's actually really doing really well at three years but then it kind of takes a dive takes a little bit of a dive well the next woman is definitely a truck company not only that but it's got probably the widest ranging fleet out there and that's the Ford f-series truck hell yeah at number nine and this is the most popular vehicle sold in United States period oh yeah if you even if you count sedans crossovers SUVs anything they sold nine hundred and nine thousand trucks f-series trucks in 2018 it's a huge number and think about it this is just for the United States that's a lot of Americans driving around on f-series trucks and I think this list shows us one thing there's a common theme here okay a lot of all of these vehicles on this list are very popular that means they're in high demand and that's what brings that value up right right so with the high demand being creeping up to a million yeah resale value people are gonna want those trucks over the course of five years it makes sense that they're gonna want something that's contemporary in terms of you know having that vehicle so what are the numbers for the Ford f-series trucks yes so do you have serious trucks is number nine on this list and it maintains fifty point six percent of its value after five years so it's just a notch above the makaan just kind of weird to have the mic on and the f-series on the same list but that's the way these numbers break out so in other words what you're saying is if I bought a raptor for say seventy five thousand dollars mmm-hmm then over the course of five years we can knock that seventy five in half and I could buy one of those for around thirty five forty thousand dollars well yeah well it varies right because f-series is a wide range it is Raptors on one spectrum uh-huh which is the high demand vehicle really expensive right but you also have the diesel trucks oh yeah that's Jeff 250f 350 so it varies but yes alright well we're in there let's move on to number eight which is the Chevrolet Colorado AHA but this is a number two selling midsize truck currently yeah 2018 and in 2018 Chevrolet sold 135,000 Colorado's which is a pretty good number it is a good number and that's another vehicle that actually has an interesting range to it because you can have a diesel engine a v6 there's even a four-cylinder available yeah in the zr2 is there oh yeah with all those engines and the Bison and the Bison that were recently drove mushrooms it's got the steel bumpers and all that stuff but that once again shows that it's a popular vehicle right right and when people buy trucks they they want several things not just one thing they want utility yeah they're one comfort they want fuel economy and I think this list so far shows that it's important indeed it is so what's the numbers for the Chevy Colorado after five years it retains fifty point nine percent of its value okay so it matches well it's just actually slightly ahead of the Ford f-series trucks yes so we're taking small steps but up in our list interesting well the next one I did not expect to see on this list yeah so for number seven it's the Honda Ridgeline it's the Honda Ridgeline we still classify it as a pickup truck yeah midsize at tearful truck calm because it has a bed okay it retains 51.3% of its value we're now coming up to number six which is the Chevy Silverado well actually it's all the way up and it goes up against directly against they have f-150 or f-series trucks in 2018 they sold five hundred and eighty five thousand right good numbers still you know approaching six hundred thousand units and here's where we take a quite a large step forward in the percentage after five years the Silverado retains fifty three point seven percent of its value so now we're approaching the mid 50 percent range so you have a four-cylinder you're gonna have a straight-6 diesel you have a couple different v---aids and then you've got the bigger diesel engines on the larger trucks so once again a very flexible range but I think it's I mean obviously it's on this list once again utility is there right affordability is is there because they're trying to push their mid-range trucks not those high-end you know high countries but the mid-range trucks and they tend to maintain their value a little bit better yeah and I've heard that before and so this is definitely another a little bit of evidence for that let's move on to number five which is definitely a look another vehicle we weren't really expecting expect to see honestly well it's not really Truckee Truckee but it's bracing the frame as far as I'm concerned it's a truck I've been fighting Roman on this for years and yeah and that's the Toyota 4runner which is i frame base together with a solid rear axle and it has a big v6 in the front but this is not one that has a big flexible range there's only a few four runners that are out there right right and it still uses an older design engine the four liter v6 it's still a five-speed Automatic ancient it's not it doesn't have a ten-speed no or anything like that it's an older design but Toyota is relying on that slow improvement strategy right with built in reliability that's kind of their goal right right they sold a pretty good number for in 2018 140,000 Wow that's good so that's you know anything over 100,000 units it's a success and they're growing bright so that shows that demand is there and that's why the resale value it maintains fifty six point three percent of its value after five years you know incredible thing about the forerunner is the fact that it competes in so many different markets think about it it competes against the Jeep Grand Cherokee and that's a totally different vehicle in terms of how its design that's more of a crossover you know four-wheel independent unibody and all that and then it competes against vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler which is also on this list by the way yes it is but I mean they're very different vehicles so the forerunners in the middle and it just has all these different directions it has a three row version which is bizarre a very small third row yep and it has a super duper off-road version but it also has like a slightly more street oriented version but in limited yeah yeah right but for the most part it's the same vehicle so very interesting to see same engine same transmission you know well done Toyota Wow they've done well on this list and you'll see what we're talking about in a moment so are we move on to number four number four is the GMC Sierra and I think I know why it creeped up to number four why I was just the GMC event and they kept saying how they're selling a lot more Denali luxurious trucks and especially for heavy duties and also the the 1500 s half tons right and they have one of the highest average transaction price vehicles and what's happening is they built a lot of value in the Denali name really and I think I mean that's kind of my educated guess is that that value kind of maintained through the years after five years 56.7% Wow that's I mean you're getting over half of your value back on the truck five years or five years it's incredible and you could put in a lot of miles in that time well hell yeah oh yeah I mean a hundred thousand two hundred thousand dollars why not yeah you know the I'm curious to see in a few years what the 84 does that's my thing if it improves that more it must improve it yeah I would think it would it's an electronic tour de force yeah and it's also more usable right the more useful something is it can go fro you can tell what can halt let's get that funky tailgate it's got the value mm-hmm I hope so I mean that's the thing they sold 220,000 trucks in 2018 so once again really good numbers let's move on to number three which is well snow surprise frankly Toyota Tundra mm-hmm and they are a Tundra sold 120,000 units so it's not quite this miny as the GMC Sierra or some of the others right but it's been known to be on this list it's been on this list many times and one of the reasons is the baked-in reliability that Toyota's are so known for the tundra is an absolute solid as a rock truck and this is a truck that doesn't have a lot of variety either right I mean two divisions yeah they've expended but it's nowhere near like a Ford or Chevrolet exactly choice as far as engine options transmission options etc and there's only just a half ton there's there's no beauty or anything like that and that's probably why 120,000 is the number is lower because there's no heavy duty truck 56.9% it maintains after five years well let's move on to number two the argument is is it a truck I say it is and once again I've been overruled by everybody and that's the Jeep Wrangler it's been hot I mean Jay L just came out basically a year ago now approximately and it's been selling through the roof huge improvements in sale so the demand is there oh yeah they sold 240,000 Wranglers just Wranglers just Wranglers in one year so that's almost quarter million vehicles huge demand and that those tend to hold their value because you know there's just capable machines yeah they're super capable and even if you're getting one from the factory with all the factory basics on it if it's a Rubicon it's already capable off-road it has you know locking front and rear diff disconnecting front end and it has the ability to do something that frankly no other truck in its class or any vehicle in this class could really do now here's the thing not only is this vehicle popular but you can go back years and years and you know older Wranglers are still keeping their you just look at our cheap Jeep series on TfL card that's right that that was what like a 16 year old Jeep base models base model still like six and a half thousand dollars and we're showing you guys why you know those vehicles are so popular that's right so what's the numbers on this one well the Jeep Wrangler maintains after five years according to KB be fifty eight point three percent of its failure we're approaching the 60 percent value here which is really great so usually you can't quite go wrong buying some of these know in terms of an investment you're getting quite a lot back after five years now I am curious to see what happens once the gladiators in the market whether they combine the sales for numbers or if they consider the gladiator to be completely different vehicle and put it in a different class I hope they separate them yeah well we'll see we'll see how for Jeep numbers it might actually build move them to keep them together yeah well we'll see what happens well number one number one I thought this is a huge surprise I don't think so yeah it's not tell you're a Tacoma there so once again the number one selling midsize truck yep right in the country how many how many tell them how many they sold two hundred forty five thousand so nearly a quarter of a million yes so they eked out the Wrangler and the Tacoma numbers-wise are very similar as far as how many vehicles they sell but here's the value you get back 62.2% after five years it maintains that value and we see it here in Colorado every day oh yeah I had a 2008 Tacoma and I bought it used and I sold it for only $1,000 loss after two years I kid you not that's incredible but in terms of a new car value over five years those numbers well they don't Wow but at the same time they are impressive yeah and you know there's no it's here the prologue ously is in the mix for Tacoma and they're gonna be updating so it's getting very competitive right yeah and they know so it is fully aware of the fact that they have competitors now who are doing completely different things Ford is a really good example with a turbocharged four-cylinder and whatnot but Chevrolet's another one with you know diesel options and whatnot so Toyota needs to change up their game looks like they might be doing that yeah they're doing something in Chicago for 2020 Tacoma and they kind of teased it already right so it's gonna be interesting to see this list next year but there you go it's dominated by pickup trucks and really frame-based su eats that is pretty incredible so what do you guys think is there something that's missing on this list do you think there's something that should have been mentioned let us know below yeah and it's based on data real numbers from kbv so thank you guys yeah thanks KBB all right I think it's time to go we'll see you guys later and go back to typical truck and Keith Foulke are calm right yeah we're gonna lose views real-world reviews and more of these top-ten lists
