[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] the fim Super Moto World Championship has arrived in tramata on the aisle of Sardinia west of Mainland Italy this idyllic island is a truly historic part of southern Europe and is an ideal destination for tourists not only is the weather often in your favor but the local culture food and festivities make it a vibrant place to spend your holidays it also has significant mod sport pedigree as a host of not only the world Super Moto Championship but the World Rally Championship it's an island of 1.6 million inhabitants with Motorsport running through their veins weeks can be spent discovering the countless glorious views you can find on the coast and in land but this weekend all eyes are on tramata all eyes are on the F Super Moto world championship and this year's title [Music] battle there's a new man in Orange and Ulen AA Cortez has arrived in a big way I am 17 years old I do rid there in in S1 GP is my second race in S1 world championship and I want to try win for the rookie my class and I work for top three the end of the champion in next [Music] one for this session I have a new team e is M and I'm very good feeling in my bike in my team my style and I I'm good my bike is perfect it's a one missile and I work hard to improve in my bike is pushing up Cortez has certainly made waves already this season with strong results at the season opening weekend in his native Spain but now MTR ktm's newest S1 GP Contender has to get to grips with Kat's Sardinia circuit w98 a challenging circuit to contend [Applause] with it's my first time in this circuit is very beautiful but it's really very technical H the two part of the ofroad in the asphalt is very beautiful and and tomorrow is have to race and keep C for tomorrow and step step by [Music] [Music] step so here's the circuit we're taking on this weekend two dirt sections as Cortez alluded to lots of technical challenges through the faster mid-speed corners on the tarmac as well it's only a short circuit at less than 1.2 km but it's certainly one that will provide entertaining racing let's take a closer look with one of the Italian Stars this is Elia samartin welcome to Sardinia track and follow me to discover the track this is the first corner of the truck it's very difficult Corner because it's important to draw a good line for don't take too much break here and take the gas here for take too much power for go and on the second [Music] Corner after the first very fast part of the truck we entry on the first part on the offroad part here is very difficult to make a good break on the with the bike because uh the grip is very uh leery here is important for make a good speed on the BMS for take the the speed for make a good section on the boobs two different option in this offro part the higher line is a easy to make double double on the wave for the straight this is the most important corner of the truck the last corner it's very longer left corner here is important to take a good line here is possible to overtake another Rider is more important this corner this is the never ending Corner well then he's taken us on a walk now he'll take us on a ride this is a high-speed look at the trater circuit with elas [Music] Amar onto the main straight then and very quickly through this first chicane you can carry a lot of speed through there just one little left hander and it's already time to go onto the dirt as ellia said got to get get that breaking right very slippery before they go through the waves through the whoops quite a short first dirt section but there's more to come as they blast back out onto the tarmac then this hairpin Corner one of the best overtaking opportunities we saw that a few times in 2023 unfortunately in 2023 we didn't get to use the dirt section because of the weather this year it doesn't look like we have those issues onto the brakes again an even trickier downhill dirt breaking section as they head onto the second of the off-road parts of this course little bit more technical here some more challenges to be had you see most of them using that burm on the outside and then launching back up onto the tarmac with a flourish and it's just a few Corners now between yourself and The Checkered Flag or at least the end of the lap and here is the so-called NeverEnding Corner one Apex two apexes eventually three and then four left hand apexes one little right hand flick and it's a pretty quick lap of the Sardinia circuit w98 it's race one at the weekend and ellia S Martin was quick but Thomas Shyer was that little bit quicker he's on the front row Sam Martin and Schmidt making up the three positions there AA Cortez Steve Bon and Eric Tesco on row two Roman kyver Tim zai and Yan Olman on Row three nedved praznik and Perna making up the first four rows of the Grid it's race one of the weekend in Sardinia and it's a good start from Mark grer Schmidt on the inside he moves up to second place it's side by side for third between Bonnell and S Martin and there goes AA Cortez all three wide doesn't go through there unfortunately Bonnell hits the deck as AIA Cortez tried to sneak up his inside not sure if Sam R te managed to stay upright hopefully everyone could continue on in the race but it's Shyer and Schmidt out front the two world champions the eight time world champion leading the race the reigning and three-time World Champion in second place Eric tesone he's an Italian Champion Racing for TVR racing team great to have him with us this weekend and he's right on the back of AA Cortez in the early stages but it's Thomas Shyer that leads the way on the Honda still having to get used to that sgr grow racing netting a big signing in the off seon and so far the combination of Honda and Shyer has proven to be pretty potent dominated that first weekend in Spain is the championship leader but Mark rer Schmidt looks like he's got every bit of the race Pace that Thomas shyer has in the early stages here they snake through the dirt once again we skipped that initial dirt section on the first lap as you saw but we are now going through it tone there a bit wild over the uh exit of the second dir section losing a bit of time to a Cortez at the moment but still running nicely in fourth place oh but we've had a switch we've had a switch Mark rer Schmidt is in the race lead so Schmidt has gotten past shy let's see if Thomas can retaliate Mark grer Schmidt leading the way I think that's the first time all season that he's led a race defending Champion didn't really have the start that he wanted in Spain but it looks like Sardinia is suiting him well at the moment what a treat to see these two Mark rer Schmidt still very much in his prime and Thomas Shyer has seemed to be rejuvenated this year and look at the T mq Rhymer on the 141 leading a a q of four for 13th Place there there's a TM in the front of the order as well ellot s Martin and nedved good to see that s Martin is back up then he is running in seventh place now with that move on nedved Schmid and Shyer still going at it lap to the race tesone is he under pressure yeah through I think that was samartin on the recovery Ride Now up to Fourth position so elas amartin is working his way back up there still not sure if Steve Bonnell is running or not but tesone getting caught out there 2018 Italian S3 Champion quite the Battle Pack going through the dirt there as well AA Cortez having a fairly lonely race at the moment in third position Mark rer Schmidt is anything but lonely ever since he's gotten past Thomas Shyer Shyer has been in those Wheel tracks running out of laps though if shyia wants to make a move he's going to need to do it pretty quickly of course Schmidt such a versatile Rider he's good on the dirt he's a very competent road racer on motorcycles as well we've seen that in the German IDM championships shy not quite looking as comfortable there coming off the dirt versus Schmidt the laps are running out for the Frenchmen this would be the first time he's been defeated in a race so far this season such was his form in albaa further back in the field ellia Sam Martin has caught up to julan AA Cortez Sam Mar is looking really good here in Sardinia such a shame that he was caught out on the first lap of the race but running well there in fourth position and there we are on the offensive is the 32 of course that's out of the Gaza Racing Stable Ula Cortez running for MTR KTM but now running in fourth because Elia sartin has gotten through line of stern for the race lead it's still Schmidt in the lead Sam still under pressure from AA Cortez as well has Mark rer Schmidt got the measure of Thomas cheyer in this first race just a few Corners left to go The NeverEnding Bend as elas amartin called it but it is just about going to be a win for Mark Riner Schmidt he Pips shy to the line first race for me today here in Sardinia was great I did a good start was second I could pass in the I could pass Tom in the first lap so I feel very good yeah I have a good Rhythm thanks to my team for the great walk yesterday to all my sponsors hopefully you tomorrow back again on top of the box bye great to see him back on the top step then Mark rmid takes the first win of the weekend Shyer and Cortez first second and third ellot samartin though gets put down to Fourth position ultimately with a penalty tesone Alman kyver nedved Zion Bai your top 10 there's one thing that's for sure about the Sardinia round of the fim Super Moto world championship and that's that there's always a show being put on whether it's on four wheels or two alongside the FIB Super Moto World Championship lots of fans getting ready for this coming along on the Sunday for the two all important races to come the superfinal and before that the fast race of course the World Rally Championship is here next weekend as well so this really is a festival of motorsport for the people of Sardinia at this time of [Music] year the fast race begins right now we're underway and it looks like another good start from Schmidt in fact the second phase didn't really work out for him they bleed across the runoff area there on the first lap of the race and it's Elia samartin who is the closest pursue of Thomas Shyer in the early stages Mark ran Schmidt who he ride on board with here in third position he did get a good launch initially but the bike just tried to get out from underneath him as he launched away just 12 laps in this race as well so less time for him to make his way by ellia samartin and perhaps even Thomas Shyer Sam Martin looked really good in terms of race Pace in that first race uh however he did get a track limits penalty it was track limits that knocked him down from third to fourth in the final classifications oh and S Martin there a bit loose Rough and Ready coming off the dirt section certainly feeling the pressure from behind Mark Riner Schmid side by side with s Martin and threw into second position goes the reigning world champion but is Elia sartin going to try and fight back Mark grer Schmidt remains in second for now drifted wide at one of those apexes I thought s Martin might be on his inside but he was just squaring off the corner exit there's the growl racing Honda of Thomas Shyer onto the dirt being pursued Now by Schmidt Schmidt has a good couple of seconds to make up there in fourth place is that Steve Bonnell I think it might be Bonnell there in fourth position just ahead of Eric tesone Bonnell did finish the first race on Saturday but only 13th after hitting the deck on lap one of the [Music] race that's your top five through shot cheyer closing in being closed in on I should say by Mark rer Schmidt they're at it again at the front of the order Shier has been so impressive this year but Mark Riner Schmidt looks like here at this second destination of the Season it looks like his race Pace might be a little bit better over the distance of a race he just seems to be half a step ahead maybe even less than that but shy a has track position at the moment that's the important thing and of course with Mark rer Schmidt winning the first race it's so important that shy a holds Ona Cortez only in seventh place so he's lost some ground in the early stages oh and that's an opportunity for Mark grer Schmidt Shyer did not get the run out of the last corner and Schmidt is through Mark grer Schmidt is our race leader for the second time this weekend he finds a way past Thomas Shyer Shyer just didn't get the run out of the last turn looked like he was ever so slightly wrong-footed make no mistake these Riders constantly on the limit and of course your tires are always getting dirty in these sections you go back onto the tarmac the grip just starts to build and then you're on the dirt again it's a very very tricky facility here in Sardinia we've had some great racing here already this weekend and I suspect we haven't had the last of it because thas Shyer is still on the back wheel of this TM agonizing weight to get on the power there Through The Never Ending Corner Schmid and Shyer with just four laps left to go tesone kers AIA CZ they're all having a scrap tesone a couple of bike lengths clear of the Belgian racer Cortez love that knee down style that he has Tac a little bit less traditional motard style than some of his peers shy studying the rear of Mark rinit there's not long left to go last lap of the race and I don't think Shy close enough it's going to be two wins from two for Mark rer Schmidt he goes into the superfinal with the advantage firmly in his favor Shyer put in a good race he sit second third place of Martin Bonnell get some good points on the board in fourth head of tesone and AIA Cortez Tinsel in seventh place and Ned bed bringing us down to eight I'm happy for the result but I'm not happy for my reading I reading with too much stress I don't know why but now I try to my best for the Super Final Sam Martin then will be looking to get his head in the game for the finale but look at that Mark bran Schmid on top by six points Sam Martin third AA Cortez fourth Eric tesone rounding out the top five Two Italians in the top [Music] five Super Final time then and it's Mark rer Schmidt starting from pole alongside Thomas Shyer and Elia samartin then it's bonnal tesone and AA Cortez on row two Off the Grid salai neded and K Niki on row three row fourman kyver and Bai kyver falling out of the top 10 uh in the first race so he's got some work to do we're underway in racing and it's a good start from Thomas Shyer he leads ahead of Mark grer Schmidt as the race begins Eric tesone we ride on board with him he's been leap frogged there by AA Cortez on the first lap so AA Cortez who started in sixth is already challenging for the top three positions but it's elas am Martin in third place and it's Mark grer Schmidt that leads the way Schmidt in first Shyer in second shuffling around there in the first few Corners onto the dirt for the first time and tesone following the four Championship regulars oh look at that a lot of air there for Thomas Shyer cared a lot of momentum over the jump Mark R it is though leading the way once again remember in the previous two races it was Shyer who led early on and then Mark rer Schmid had to do the hard work of Getting By this time around the circumstances are different Via Cortez there in fourth position ellia Sam Martin running well for Gaza racing in third place [Music] over the dirt section they go for the second time Mark Brer Schmidt on the l30 racing TM would love to get his first Grand Prix victory of the season and try and reclaim that red plate of course the red plate Championship leader plate is adorned Thomas Shyer after that stunning performance in Spain tesone over the whooop once again just falling back a little bit from the top four but still running very well remarkably well actually and oh slide to the inside there from Steve Bonnell bonell getting up into fifth position then got shuffled back a little bit on the first lap of the race and he wants to try and go Podium hunting if at all possible teson might try and hold on to his rear wheel as well and go hunting for S Martin and Cortez but s is staying with the top two at the moment Schmid Shyer Sam Martin your top [Music] three already well over half distance in this one and the gaps have seemed to remain about equidistant all race so far no qu are given and once again Thomas Shyer is the high flyer here he goes for the Joker Lane which is on the outside of the never ending corner now this is a third dirt section everyone has to do this once during the race has Thomas Shyer done it at the right time they only have to do it during the superfinal it's a bit like a joker lane or Joker lap in rally cross Schmidt now takes it as well they won't have done this too many times during the weekend so there are perhaps unforeseen challenges through this section and look at that through Goes Thomas Shyer Shyer goes through that's huge that's critical and as we go onto the last lap of the race Thomas Shyer is in the front of the order Mark rer Schmidt will be furious that must have been an incredible lap after the Joker lane from Thomas Shyer and he crosses the line to win the superfinal a huge effort from Thomas shyer he claims Five Points back and he will gain an additional point for that super poow award The Meta super pole they're onew in the race there'll be onew in the Grand Prix standings as well and look at that they're tied 75 points a piece but with the Super Bowl point and moreover with that superfinal win Thomas Shyer has claimed this year's Grand Prix of Sardinia two grand prix wins to start the season for Shyer third place for ellia Sam Martin Mark rer Schmidt second not sure how happy he'll be with that given just how good his performan was this weekend but by Dent of that superfinal win and the super pole point it's shy a that takes the win here in Sardinia what an effort from both Riders this weekend both looking like they are on top form but the red plate go to Thomas Shyer once again he still is the championship leader but Mark rer Schmidt has shown his potential for the first time this season after a difficult run in Spain very difficult weekend uh I struggle a lot with the bike during uh during all the weekend and uh I learned a lot behind the mark during the the two races and uh my only chance was the Jer line so I I take the the good decision and uh the good moment we won the GP very happy uh we we take the the right play so just perfect thanks everybody there we go the Super Bowl point proving to be critical this weekend 14 points the margin between shy and Schmidt at the front of the championship Cortez s Martin and Steve Bonnell rounding out our top five in the championship now we go from Sardinia to Mainland Italy the Grand Prix of pamon is round three of the championship [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music]
