Slimmed Down Monarchy: Prince William Pulls Out Of Memorial Service

obviously we're going to start with the Royals guys um an no show by William as we just said at the very last minute yesterday because of what he would only say was a quote personal matter this huge backlash against Andrew for daring to show his face his grinning face as the M puts it at the same event will come to Andrew but there's a general feeling that William perhaps should have said just a little bit more because speculation thrives in a vacuum and people are really speculating on why he didn't show up how you did that robit for 10 12 years I it is unprecedented for such a senior Royal to withdraw 45 minutes before the event is happening his name is in the order of service he was due to speak was at wind at Windsor Castle his home is five minutes walk from the the chapel Ro where the ceremony was taking the service was taking place it was his own Godfather the exiled king of Greece the king of Spain had flown in with the queen of Spain for the it was a really major turnout for the royal family and it is extraordinary that he pulled out and of course it's leading to speculation is everything okay with the the Princess of Wales or it's something right with his children but no explanation other than to say personal and it does fuel speculation speculation about Kate does seems to have bubbled to the top of the and the pal saying on background everything's fine but the pal has not he not always very foring out the pictures we're showing now are not recent pictures of course of Kate um because we understand that she won't be back in public until after we don't know what's wrong with her we know she was in hospital for 2 weeks major surgery um yeah look the public figures if if he's if he's had a stay to take delivery of something you know a new fridge or they've got a problem with child care you know one of the seven nannies is off or something right you can you you can you know you normally come up with those reasons but this was a big event for them he is the ex- king of Greece they abolished the royal family 50 years last king of Greece was he's gone now he's not he's should be the ex or the former uh but nevertheless given her health um you immediately wonder what it is at such short not or if they've had a tiff a r he doesn't like PR of I had one yesterday I think from the Royal editor of Newsweek and he was he was wondering why if Kate is is doing well and recovering well why at the very least her husband couldn't just take a picture of her and have that put out on online yeah look the royal family have always been intensely private about health issues and that started with the queen downwards and they don't want to go into much detail we would it it was amazing that we've heard so much about Charles's checks for prostate cancer but now we don't know he's having treatment for cancer we don't know what that cancer is and people say they should be more forthcoming he is the head of state after all but they say you got to protect drifting to Kate isn't it inevitably yeah well you look for a reason why somebody would pull out at 45 minutes I I mean that's a that's the period 45 minutes before an event like that that's like when a football AR will pull a hamstring yeah and not able he he literally could have walked there he could have done the engagement in an hour been and done it gone he called the RO the Greek Ro the Greek roers himself so but they were all there princess an um every senior Ro you can't imagine it's trivial or if it is Trivial what has created that uh I can imagine people thinking as they're listening to your discussion what right do we have to know good question if the palace say it is a private m I have always said even though they are very public and I say this about Harry and Megan as well you know to a lot of backlash just because they are very famous high-profile figures who do a lot of public stuff doesn't mean they don't have a right to privacy when they decide I do not agree with this thing that once you turn the publicity tap on you don't get to turn it off because I think you absolutely when it comes to any of us we're on television I don't want want all my private stuff out there and I don't want people saying well you're on television you absolutely this was a public event well trade in advanc it was going to be there um it was in the court circular he was expected there say in the order of service taking a major part in I say to pull out just yes and they explained he has pulled out didn't he didn't mysteriously pull out without anyone knowing and they said it was for a private M you know you know because they are very public figures you will get speculation if you want to end the speculation it if he's to stay in Waiting for a plumber because the toilet's blocked that's fine if it's something to do with her got people for that Kevin yeah if it's something funded people for that something to do with her health or or one of the Children's Health just say oh one of the children's un well say as soon as they just say page after page after page of examining that particular issue I disagree is it because you think that they are publicly funded that they have more of a duty to tell their citizens their subjects what's going on well I think I think because you got the mon the monik is there to be seen that's why they were going to this service with all the cameras and everything's organized you know TV is invited the newspapers are invited you you're having a public show and then you're a no show later on I think there's another there's another reason too people a lot of people unlike Kevin McGuire love the royal family yeah and they love C they love Prince William and they will be really worried really worried people were saying were calling is it Kate is she really sick is there problem with the king's Health now the King was spotted being driven to London so for treatment gu and camil was there she would have been so so I see both I can see both sides of this argument I really can and I think there's there's a third argument which is we started with is the the basic PR you have to handle PR when you're in the public eye and allowing the speculation to thrive like this is not necessarily the best way for it aren't they yeah the other PR is is the one highlighted on the front of your paper this morning Kevin that what you want why would Camila not beon Center because the senior Royal goes last if you remember at Big ceremonies it was always the queen would enter at the ABY Orum last so Camila was the most senior Ro there more senior okay then why wasn't the Princess Royal front and center Princess Anne well she should have been but um because prince Andrew is pushy and has got up elbows and he bustled to the front so is your point then the more senior rules are at the back yeah therefore prince Andrew sort of by default ends up I mean actually your point is he pushed himself the front but actually the order means that he would inevitably end up at the front yeah but he pushed his way forward because I watched I watched the whole process and I thought look at him there's a famous photograph of European Summit of Mrs Thatcher when she was prime minister and she's pushing away this way and pushing away that way and she gets to the very front so she's photographed on and I thought of when Prince and I just wonder if isn't there a bigger question should he have been there at all given that it was a huge media event and he was in such disgrace should he have been there because how frankly had he gone in first third or last he would have been criticized the Tower of London well it was remember this was a service to reflect on the life of of this man who was very close to the Royals and he knew him very well he was a second cousin of the the the exiled King uh former King as Kevin would call it and so he is going to be at these sort of events he's going to be at f GRE had a referendum royal family well if we had a referendum Kev we would vote massively to our Royals trust me I think I I think you'd see uh Andrew the poster boy of the abolition I know you like referendums because the last one went well that's what you would do the last one went well for your lot and this one went very well for you lot it very well in Scotland meanwhile meanwhile the Prince Harry's case back at the high court so the DU Duke of S6 is going to learn this morning if he's won a high court challenge against the home office over that decision to change the level of his personal security when he visits uh the UK the Duke's lawyers have previously told the court he was singled out treated less favorably in the decision to downgrade his taxpayer funded personal security um but the court says was told rather that Harry believes his children can't feel at home in the UK and it's not possible to keep them safe here look my point my view on this he he's always going to be at risk here I don't understand why he doesn't still have the same level of security the argument against is he's chosen to leave and there he shouldn't well because you reap because you reap what you say um what do you mean what he should be punished no I think if he's withdrawn from the royal family in the way that he has and then turned on the royal family in the way that he has I think automatically he forfeits a degree of the kind of protection he could expect if he was a working member of don't think it changes in any way the risk to him in fact I he probably more risk if so when he was at the um Queen's funeral he got the same level of protection as any other member of the royal family but if he comes here privately because remember he's a private citizen now when it suits him when suits him but when it suits him he's a private Citi to to pay security of money he got I I agree he should not be left at risk but they will assess what the risk is he can't just expect to hop on a plane and have a police detail with cars motorcy just waiting for I'm sorry he can come into the country quite quietly and get a cab I'm not exp him to get on me tell your picture desk tell your picture desk to let him come into the country quite quiet I tell you what there would be nothing see pictures like that you don't hang the last time you don't see pictures like that now he goes around you don't reveal where he stays say that they would reveal it saying that your picture desk would be after pictures last time he came in was the king and he announced it to the Press before he arrived so we could all get the photograph so he's quite Adept at telling us when it suits him if you want the old it's the old joke of the worldwide privacy tour isn't it you know um look I I agree he degrees he he deserves and ought to be offered a degree of protection but I just do not think it should be at the same level as it was an active working member of the well this won't be decided by the court of public opinion it will be decided by the high court 10:30 and by the way prince Andrew doesn't get any roal protection paid for by the taxpayer now nor do his children what really none of all and he's the son he he he is the son of the late Queen and Prince Philip no he has to pay don't
