[Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] good day everybody welcome back to the channel i really want to emphasize in the beginning of this video we are testing two skid steers running mulcher heads not to be confused with doing dirt work and stuff like that it's a completely different ball game when you are running high flow to the mulcher head continuously in the heat of the day heat of the battle i want to see how these two machines are going to stack up they're both 2018 models very similar two different brands kubota versus takahuchi so now that we got that cleared up let's get it on well something i see right off the bat the takahuchi is definitely taller than this short guys rig over here yeah wait get out of here all right i'm going to list off some of the key things that i've noticed the one thing that's kind of silly about the takahuchi you have to have the loader arm pretty much all the way down in order to fill it up let's see what the kubota has to offer i'm sure i'm the only one that'd be interested to learn stuff like this but at the same time you know this one you could feel it any time any day same thing with the deaf they both do have depth that is that's the way the world is now vertical lift a lot of options for stuff to fall in there radial uh very little options for stuff to fall in there in comparison cab size very similar this one seems to have more elbow room but it has less foot room climbing into this one is a little bit easier which is nice because it's got a lower step here that one it's uh i don't know actually it's kind of a little bit more even across that one's progressive finally get to do a actual 100 head-to-head battle with two skid steers with identical mulcher heads i have made videos in the past comparing takahuchi to asv and i didn't get to run both those machines in that video did run the asv later on and ultimately decided to go with this machine as far as skid steers go i like the idea of having a skid steer that can do everything and not worry about undercarriage and stuff like that this undercarriage is very similar to the kubota if not it might exactly be the same i think it is a little bit taller geared means that it's got a bigger sprocket versus this one but we're gonna do some mulching down there and see how these things directly compare on power this is a kubota engine in here 111 horsepower and uh according to garrett the kubota is right at 95 horsepower as it advertises on the door there but both of them have literally the same exact mulcher head both machines are 2018 models they have 450 hours 650 ish hours so they're right in the same ballpark of like you can't get too much more identical without getting the same exact machines i'm gonna do a couple obvious things that we're going to point out they are both high flow machines this one does come with a secondary hydraulic circuit so that we don't have to tag off of the main lines for opening the head or you could have i don't know four and one bucket kind of stuff out here i i don't know i don't know what other option you're gonna run a high flow and a low flow i'm sure there's some stuff but is just as the primary all greased up he's gonna take his machine and we're going to go down there get her warmed up and test her out i'll do the same with the takahuchi give her the rounds out there make a couple patterns through the bushes and come back out there that's not like big material to be mulching it just kind of be grooming up the path just get them warmed up get the feel for the machines and i want to come back and lay into these piles of mulch right here these things are what the 12 mulched up on a different job we had to haul it back here and those things will bog the head down we'll see what the recovery time is and kubota they tend to run a little bit hotter so we do recommend he puts an auxiliary cooler on it but the takahuchi has been great so far has not overheated hydraulics once and it's funny because our dedicated machines get warm in the summer but the 12 has never gotten warm oh yeah that thing's definitely got the same engine it's probably just tuned a little bit more on the takahuchi all right first test to see if the stock form of the kubota will back up the seal all right give her a shot nope all right you're done you're digging a hole get out of there let me try it yep yeah i made it a little higher [Music] it doesn't help that the mulching head is 3000 pounds out in front i think this will go right here i do realize i can push some ultra head down trying to balance the machine but i want to see what it can do just as sitting on the tracks i want any assistance my pond she's full we're gonna put a boat in here later today but we need to open up this path so he's gonna try and come through and knock down the bushes a little bit it's a little bit skinny coming through just for pretty much anything [Music] i'm gonna go ahead and point out a couple obvious things right here my buddy garrett literally bought this machine the night before it came with mulch your head and everything on it he uh his experience running in mulcher is limited this is actually a second time so when it comes to the actual critiquing and judging the two machines side to side i'll be doing that no offense to him i just i have a little bit more experience and the situation that we're in right now he is uh trying to mulch some stuff on a pond dam and it's about a 15-foot drop on the bushes side and the other side just got a little touch of water so i don't blame him for being a little hesitant with his new rig but uh i'll go fire up the 12 buzz this out and then we'll actually start comparing [Music] [Applause] [Music] at the moment i've been waiting for to drive the kubota they both backed up the hill and kind of petered out about the same so we know the mulcher head is heavy and this thing sits way lower way lower we need to find a home for the camera here i'm going to mulch up a couple bushes and see how she goes right off the bat it's got an awkward shield almost the same it's kind of like a bigger version of the one that's on elite yeah all right let's see see if i can guess how to turn the head on [Music] wow [Music] is there a rock right it there to have really good power [Music] [Music] [Music] the same recovers way faster [Music] i'm not quite i'm actually pretty impressed with this thing [Music] feel like i'm back at home in the takahuchi watch this the door moving there is quite a bit more head room in this machine okay swap back over the takahuchi but the first initial reaction to the kubota i'm actually pretty impressed on how well it handles ahead for the horsepower loss that the engine has the hydraulic flow it actually did pretty dang good the tracks feel a little bit different as far as gear ratio and stuff like that the controls are a little bit jerkier but that is just you know nature of swatch machines you got to get used to them but let's go ahead and see how the takuchi fares in this light brush i have second flow or the hydraulics so that my hood doesn't divert from the high flow it's on its own circuit let's see what we get into i don't like this skid steers in the mud [Music] [Music] [Music] this ground is so soft [Music] yeah these controls are a lot hey i'm just used to them but they seem to go takes off [Music] [Music] skid steer man running multihead's definitely different than moving dirt it takes a little bit to get used to that's that's a fun machine though that's definitely fun it's kind of awkward how low it sits so after running you have to run the 12 before the day's out just to feel how high it sits feels like you're in a lifted truck compared to the kubota all right anybody wants to make fun of the dorky helmets we have communication and i'm gonna say this every time but people still make fun of it so i can talk to garrett while he's another skid steer it makes it more fun it's like playing video games and you play with your buddy online anyway so we're gonna fire up both machines and we're gonna bog them down into the chips to see which one recovers fast we'll find out here if my extra 15 20 horsepower makes uh [Music] so [Music] okay guys you paying attention here kubota on one pile of chips versus the takahuchi two piles of chips and a pile of brush we'll see who wins first by the time i get done talking but feel by the seat driving the kubota it felt like it had a faster recovery time but hard to tell in that video side by side comparison they were actually fairly close on the recovery time i was kind of surprised seeing that i wish the video could show that a little bit better but garrett and i were talking counting it down as we were bogging the machines down running those headsets like i was saying see which one was you know back up to rpm faster and actually was very very close which surprised me but here lies one issue with the kubota like i said they roughly have very similar in hours 600 to about 500 and he's got to stop because his air conditioning is not working on his machine because the filters are clogged up now that is a very very big thing when you're running these mulchers you have to have an enclosed cab or else it's too far dangerous to run a mulcher head so you have to have air conditioning you have to have heat changing of the you know seasons and all that stuff here i am still out here working rocking and rolling there's a couple things i'll go in towards the end of this video but at the end of the day you look at a couple key ingredients dealer support is by far the first and foremost thing you look for when it comes to buying equipment second obviously reliability is a key thing need your horsepower better horsepower better the machine if you have horsepower you have to be able to cool it so that is another thing bigger horsepower bigger cooling pack if you can't cool your power the extra power is useless so we'll go down the shop talk about this a little bit more but i think i have a pretty good understanding how these two machines worked after spending a day running that's nice to comb that out get that all groomed back up i like to fill this in with dirt and have more parking right here i got a bunch of those cinder blocks i can make a retaining wall cleaned up my little road so first gen can actually drive up it but all this these piles of mulch those are all piles we hauled off from a job and they were thick with dirt and everything because when you when you're mulching you're not just grinding up the branches so much but it actually turns some soil into it as well so this is you know good compost kind of stuff it's a mixture between dirt and chips so let's go down and look at it i'm actually very impressed with how that thing behaves but let's go down here and check her out every time i see these side by side i kind of laugh a little bit how much like the takahuchi the one of the biggest reasons of getting that thing versus like the asv was the cap size and the vertical lift front door it just seems so much smarter to have it like that the foot space in this cab is less than this one but everything else this one obviously just looking at that straight up size comparison this cab is huge another thing i noticed is the loader arm width on the takahuchi since it's got a wider cab it's got wider arms so those are about mid track let's see where these are sitting here yeah look at that they're probably two maybe three inches on each side narrower so overall loader arm width five to six inches ballpark but the track width is the same because you can look down the mulcher head and see that it just sticks out just a little bit if i were to need to buy a kubota after running yours it's kind of a bummer his blower motor is out for his heat and ac so that's why he dipped out a little bit early but this thing actually runs pretty dang good and another thing i noticed since this thing's a vertical lift that's where it kind of limits your visibility because as this one lifts it goes out and up but this one just goes straight up so when i tip the head forward just a little bit i can see the mulch your head a lot better out of that machine this one you know what's going on but you can't quite see what's going on unless you you know move your head quite a bit which is not a big deal another thing is nice is you got an easy access for tying it down i have to put my mulcher head roll it forward lift the boom up a little bit yeah so that's i don't even see another actual spot on the front of the machine so they want you to hook to the arms which is kind of weird kubota overall though like dude not bad not bad the i think one thing that people don't understand when they're buying a skid steer they're all skid steers there's nothing that's like so impressive one versus the other uh dealer support was a huge reason for this and i really after i drove this first time i actually really did enjoy driving it and couldn't wait to get one um it might have been similar versus a kubota but when everybody buys a skid steer they think that's oh 100 horsepower 120 horsepower they think it's just an absolute lightning you know just based on the numbers but numbers on paper versus what the actual machine puts out to the head obviously saying this one's got more horsepower the flows are going to be very similar uh compared to this one but this one actually since the head was tuned a little bit different than this one this one actually seemed to do a pretty good job i didn't run into thick stuff to get it really bogged down but i tried to ball it in the dirt and every time i did it recovered very very efficiently but if you're going to buy a skid steer do not expect it to be an ultimate mulcher like you're going to have to be patient with it if you've ever ran a prime tech or anything of the nature something that's dedicated and a little bit bigger you will find out real quick that there's a reason why they you know have dedicated machines versus skid steer but this one gary can still do all his dirt work and have a trustable reliable undercarriage and it can do all kinds of ever like we got trees here for this run a stump grinder on it it does load trucks with the brush rake the grapple thing it does so much that these things have a very big part in everybody's um company well we're gonna end it here tell her tell garrett congrats and thank you for letting us use this machine i'm gonna pop the pans on mine and give her a quick you know detail job in there it's been a couple hundred hours since we really cleaned it out thoroughly but again make sure the top of these get cleaned so that they don't fill up with bunch of garbage and catch on fire all righty guys we gotta do a quick rant at the end of this i hate that i have to put this in at the end of the video but i learned some new information that i'd like to put into this video such as recovery time and stuff like that with mulcher heads both very similar i come to realize that my takahuchi i had messed with the settings you can adjust flow percentage to the tracks to the head and stuff like that with the computer on board it does it all electronically um yeah i had a couple of those things a little bit off so i wasn't quite getting the potential i wanted out of it uh jim from global machinery came up today and we messed with the machine for about 30 40 minutes this thing is running better than it ever has so i am stoked to know that and i wouldn't figure this out unless i had to try the kubota because the kubota had a couple areas that i felt by the seas of pants that was doing better than my beloved tl12 so i'm happy to have tried that out and how we ended up getting the takahuchi is going to global machinery to buy prime tech parts prime tech is a big dedicated masticator big er they are the ones that actually make the fe heads on these but we were there they had the takauchi so i figured i'd try this out they're awesome people i i like giving my money to awesome people rather than giving my money to not awesome people tried the takahuchi loved it ended up getting one never looked back now that it runs like a champ i'm even more stoked about the thing but it has never overheated it's got no problem so far close to 500 hours knock on wood i mean it's still got a bunch of warranty left but the thing is running like a champ so i've always questioned the idea of kubota because we've always ran kubota got several kubota excavators several kubota wheel tractors love kubota hate kubota's dealer support at least locally it might be great in your area but around here absolute trash will not buy a single thing off of our local kubota dealer but since my buddy had one of these machines hell yeah i want to try it out the recovery time lightning tracks felt a little weird but you know side to side comparison i don't think i could have done a better job same year machines different brand same mulcher head pretty same same and i'm not going to show you mulch in the same bush 19 times over because you know that you mulch one you know what it is you're done with it go on with it that's why there's kind of gaps in this video but all said and done i was actually pretty happy with it until we started opening the kubota up and you know working on some stuff the air conditioner has full fan function zero flow of any air heat or air conditioning turns out it's one big box behind the seat like pretty common once one of those either your heater core clogs up or your evaporator for air conditioner clogs up you have no airflow and you got to take the whole thing apart in order to get to it garrett spent six hours working on that thing probably more than six to eight hours at my house working on it trying to get that thing cleaned out no effect i think he ended up having to cut a hole in the side of it so they could get in there and clean whatever contamination is in there so lost air condition big no go if you can't cool yourself or warm yourself up in the winter that machine that's not being a you need to have climate control when you are in an enclosed cab trying to run one of these motor hits no excuse but next thing that this is probably the biggest deal broker that i came to realize with the kubota is on the back of most every one of these machines if it's running a turbo it's got an intercooler it's got a hydraulic oil cooler and it's got an engine cooler they are one big coolant pack on the back of the engine back of the machine right by the fan so they can get nice and cooled we are taking apart garrett's machine the kubota seeing you know what what's up what the thing's all about and i only noticed two sets of lines going to this big coolant pack on the back it's got engine coolant and it's got hydraulic cooling and a cooler and i was like where's the intercooler at and i started chasing the pipes it's in the middle of machine directly above all the emissions i thought that was a really odd place to put something that is trying to cool off your intake air you put it right above the hottest thing on the machine in the middle of machine with it did not make any sense you do not put a cooler right next to the emissions the emissions is so freaking warm and you're it didn't make any sense once i saw that i was like nope nope we're done but other than that if kubota's in your area and that's your machine i would highly recommend putting oil cooler on those based on what the hydraulic oil temps show from other people it was a pretty cool day that we ran here we didn't have any trouble with cooling but in the middle of summer takahuchi has not overheated once a and kubota's heat overheat all the time but i'm impressed with kubota it's got a couple flaws they might have changed the last couple years but i'm happy that he's happy with that machine uh i'm gonna stick with the takahuchi and buy more takuchi's in the future but thank you guys for watching hope you enjoyed this video there's a lot of rant and raven blah blah blah but i'm trying to get information across like the video subscribe to the channel and uh check out bbeltonsun.com this isn't one of my hats but imagine it says vbeltonsun.com up there somebody sent me this whoever you were thank you very much we'll see you guys on the next one later
