Sioux Falls Storm at Bismarck Bucks

uh build on you know you get some veteran players with along with a good group of young players and you know you definitely have your eyes on getting into the playoffs and trying to to go past the first round how important is it when you're talking about building a winning culture in terms of maybe it helps in terms of recruiting and getting new guys to come to bismarck absolutely you know the guys talk and you know they want to go to an organization that treats their players well they want to go to an organization which uh structure great coaching where they know when they go there they're going to get treated really well and they're going to get better as athletes there's a big amount of turnaround when it comes to the roster this year for the bismarck bucks new quarterback new running back new wide receivers and you and david will get into that more extensively throughout the course of the game but the one position that i do want to talk about for rod miller's group is the fact that they've got a brand new quarterback in taj tolbert threw for over 100 yards last week three touchdowns in the season opening win against green bay what do you see from him in week one and what can we expect from him all year long well i think you know him being such a big body quarterback you know he has as coach miller mentioned you know he has the vision to be able to see the field he also has the ability to run and i think in that second half you saw him you know uncork a few really strong runs it just seems like he he's got to develop continuity with his receivers and that's going to take some time you know it he definitely developed a connection with bruner but then he also needs to be able to spread that ball around and i think you'll see some growth tonight to the point where again he looks more comfortable and he's able to distribute the ball a little bit more evenly there's only one returner on the defensive unit as a whole and that's cam hunt one of the the linebackers for this crew how important is it because i know a lot of times when you think about new turnover and new guys on a roster it's thought of as sometimes a negative but can it be a positive when you're when you're getting new faces on a team yeah absolutely um when you can uh you know depending on how things ended um you know my first year in football i took a team that was four and 11 the year before we only brought back three guys and we ended up winning a division championship so if you can get the right guys and get the right coaches in and be able to really just cement and have you know the the guys that that you want that are going to buy in i mean anything's possible even with this with this new roster the opponent tonight is the sioux falls storm one of the best programs in the ifl you're talking about a hall of fame head coach and curtis riggs 11 championships which is the most in the ifl but one thing they don't have back this year is that quarterback and lorenzo brown veteran quarterback who's been around for a long time not anymore instead it's former bismarck buck actually and taz wilson what can he do how can he impact this game yeah having a a new quarterback in sioux falls happens uh i don't know about once a decade it seems like but you know he has a great supporting cast around him he's got a great receiving crew really strong offensive line just a lights out backfield for him it's just about against the same thing continuity and getting comfortable in that pocket in the lights out backfield that you talked about nate chavis first team all-if-l running back last year first team all-if-l kick returner which is the only player in the league to be first team at two separate positions what can the defense do for bismarck to try to contain that guy well they have to be assignment sharp you know we we've all watched north dakota state be very successful over the years and when you watch their defense play they have their gap responsibilities so the bucks have to be gap sound tonight they have to gang tackle they can't just assume that somebody is going to make that tackle they all have to get to the ball and when that whistle blows you got to be able to see eight guys around the football every play that's the hall of famer the head coach robert fuller also the bismarck bucks analyst we will see him on the broadcast you got to red lobster during training camp any any chance during watford no no no no but see i do have a tradition though because the waffler city has a godfather's pizza okay so we did hit up godfather's about every other day why was the godfather cause there was no red lobster so my training came tradition has got godfathers so now we're back here i'll start hitting red livestream all right it's a good two for one deal we can take that uh so coach just looking at the season we we talked about a little bit uh off the air but your chance to to be able to start the season on time this year compared to having that later start this year what does that mean for you guys you know it feels good to get back you know to the start of things and getting back to our normal 25-man roster you know last year it was expensive 30 because of cobit so when you get back to that situation it means you're getting back to normal a little bit so that's which is good for us and good for society in general but you know for us it's good getting back and having a short season and short off season and getting ready to go and you know getting ready to come back home and have our home fans come out it feels great what are some of the challenges that do come with starting earlier this year compared to last year having that extra buffer you know not having as much time off so we had to get back and get back to the swing of things but like i said when you lose a playoff game you're ready to get back anywhere so you're hungry so getting back on the recruiting trail quick and getting guys to come in and feel the needs that we needed to feel and voice that we need to feel uh that was probably one of the challenges just getting ready to go again going get back on the bike quick so it's a challenge but it's not a challenge because you're ready to do that anyway you mentioned the challenges in trying to bring some people in what's it like to go year to year and you've been doing this for a while but going year to year with a roster turnover and coming in with that that shorter window this year compared to last year you know you expect to get used to it just because of the nature of the business you know and you lose guys you know in our situation you know there are other teams that like some of the players that we have so which is a good situation to be in because you had guys that advanced and guys that got picked up in free agency so you know just prepare for the battle to go out and get new guys to come in you know some people picked our roster we picked some other teams rosters they got some good players you know from some other leagues as well so you know this is a chess match that you do every year and you just got to keep playing a game that you have to play to build your roster and so we're always prepared to do that our coaching staff you know went out and made some good calls and good connections and we're able to get some quality players what's that delicate balance of trying to bring some guys back and we talked about the quad cities having to go back some of those players had to go back to quad cities what's the balance of keeping senior guys possibly but also looking elsewhere and trying to find that good balance you know you always try to keep a good number of guys that you can you know you look back and see what guys you know that that you want to bring back and what guys you need to replace and move on from you know you're going to have some guys that you want to bring back that you're going to lose you're going to have some guys that you know you don't want to bring back just because you want to improve so it was a little balance of that so it's really kind of a sin where we're at see what guys want to bring back they're the ones we could not get back we have to replace those so every year is a little different you know number you use the same process but the number is always just very just based on how things happen you know so now we're always ready to adapt and find what we did and like i said we're able to get players to fill those voids okay week ones under the belt coach winning green bay close game what'd you like from the game you know i like the way that we played i think defensively we played well with special teams we played well you know offense we did some things we kind of sputtered at times but we made some mistakes that we can clean up but those are credible mistakes that weren't drastic mistakes it's little things that we can clean up to make ourselves better but you know going on the road with a bunch of young guys and winning on the road is very good i think we're only road teaming at one this weekend so that was a good thing for us and for those guys that we just got to keep getting better new quarterback taj tolbert he was in the ifl last year didn't get any playing time but had some practice time what's it like to have somebody that knows the ifl landscape leading the team well it was good because he knows what to expect you know and like i said like i told him in the game he made some mistakes but you know practice speed and game speed are two different things so even been as a backup quarterback he didn't play in the game but he was able to watch the game but like i said that game speed is different so i think he had to settle down a little bit i think in the second half he settled down and kind of got under the little rhythm a little bit but we just got to improve on that rhythm but i think you know you always make your biggest improvements from game one to game two so i'm excited to see what he does but just having the basic knowledge of the game was huge because some of the throws he made you know was timing and he was ready to make the right throws at the right time we got a circle back you mentioned the fans now being at home first game of the home season second game of the season how pumped are you to be able to get back i mean it's always it's always great to be home you know and have your home fans you know everybody our ninth man and the horny buck see the kids and everybody cheering having a good time you know you always proud to be at home we got a new new field this year so i'm excited to be on that and that fast turf that we got so i'm very excited you know and i want everybody to come out and have a good time like i said playing early again and you lose a lot of fans last year because the games are so late to the fall and everybody here likes to go outside and go camping everything else so we're playing in august everybody's for a change they've got something to prove yeah for sure and you know sometimes when you get a new team together and you know you have a young team you know you can catch kind of lightning in a bottle um a lot of good things can happen you know you get the right players in you get the right type of leadership and again you can you can go from having to start from scratch to you know down the ifl season pretty much the sports world there for a couple of months last year the season started late also was pushed back due to kovan 19. here we are the bucks home opener starting on time late march in the midst of the madness and we think we're going to have some fun chaos today yeah i'm excited i just did it kind of just hit me you know we've got this home opener we've got bismarck versus sioux falls the battle of the dakotas wow here we go new kicker for the bucks chase all ball will get set to kick things away carlos thompson jr back to return for the storm let's get things rolling today from bismarck [Music] all ball with the squib couple of bounces off the feet of thompson here he comes able to escape by a couple of defenders and then take him down at about the seven yard line and here comes the storm offense led by a former bismarck buck in taz wilson let's check out the rest of the starting lineups brought to you by vocal and lost firm the storm offense has quarterback taz wilson at the helm but really the focus of this offense is running back nate chavis yeah he is a definitely next level player and a stick of dynamite anytime he touches the football something explosive can happen only returner for the bucks defense is the man in the middle linebacker cam hunt after that all new additions should be interesting to see how they mesh yeah cam hut is he's got to be a player on that defense he's not the biggest guy so he's got to react and make plays right away it'll be wilson to start under center on their own seven yard line and off the chavious to start things off and he's quickly bottled up kym smith got his hands on him first i'll tell you what i feel like up front so far it all starts with number 50 big carry the nose guard up in the middle he is such he is just such a load in the middle 6-5-3-25 load would be an accurate word from midwestern state university one yard gain on first down bucks fans making noise early wilson fires his first throw and went off the top of the scoreboard if that's not ifl football i don't know what is this game's got some quarks to it yeah boy i tell you what he was eyeing that receiver and didn't see that massive scoreboard hanging right down there in the middle you think it's hard to miss but it's not that simple second look on their all two health systems replay [Music] instead it'll be third down and nine got to make it to the 16. [Music] cavious out of the gun looks like the bucks may have gotten up early free play deep bulb hauled in and a touchdown carlos thompson jr 43 yards we've got a flag however looked like bismarck got up early yeah it's definitely uh upsides on on bismarck so did a really nice job just being patient wait illegal number 15 was out of his stance at the snap the penalties declined the play results in a touchdown you know when your sioux falls this is exactly how you wanted to start when you're on the road you know you want to score quick kind of settle the crowd down quiet them down just a little bit that's exactly what sioux falls was able to do to start off so taz wilson the former bismarck buck there's a 43-yard touchdown pass on his first stride petry puts in the extra point and early their first two plays a one-yard run an incomplete pass and then a 43-yard touchdown strike from taz wilson to carlos thompson jr that's how quick it can happen in this league now it's the bucs turn yeah absolutely you know coming into this game you know you know coach riggs was really excited about the weapons that he had at wide receiver so it's just a matter of being able to settle in and get comfortable and try to get the ball to those play makers petrie in there to send it away and back to return is rob brown let's clear the confusion right now there was rob brown and then there was like his identical twin brother very unique his name is robert brown jr he goes by burke's so we're gonna go with bert and this is just rob okay we got that out of the way we'll give you a few more reminders later on high bounce and here comes rob and he gets out to about 12 maybe the 13 yard line and the bucks offense comes out onto the field and our it's our first look this season at quarterback taj tober let's take a look at the rest of the starting lineups the combination of him and a guy you're really high on running back ben blinds i liked him a lot i think he's very explosive he hits the hole really hard and it's going to be interesting to see if coach miller gives him the ball start this game a lot of new guys on the sioux falls storm defense but the guy to watch out for is the reigning ifl defensive player of the week linebacker marquis hendrix i tell you what he is he is a playmaker at that linebacker position incredibly athletic great instincts and he can drop the hammer on you bucks will set up shop at their own 13 yard line quarterback taj tober big guy who knows how to stand in the pocket 6-6 going deep on the first play high pointed and the catch at the border by edgar allan poe jr no not that one [Music] and that's a that's a heck of a target you know when you have a 6'5 215 pound wide receiver just throw up the post and let him go up and make a play [Applause] [Music] a 31-yard grab down to the 9-yard line to start the game he's got about a six-inch height advantage over their free safety so it was just basically throw it up on the post and let him come down with it six six to six five this time it's glides breaks a tackle and shimmy's his way to back to the line of scrimmage and you like the physicality he runs with yeah i mean he runs just with just with some ferocity but you know it doesn't matter how hard he runs he's got to get blocking from that wide receiver crew i feel it just looked like there was miss blocks misdirection all over that 12 carries 34 yards in the win over green bay last week look at head coach rod miller in his fourth year at the helm got to the ifl playoffs for the first time since joining the league last year trying to take their next step looking end zone intercepted famous hasty gets it in the end zone and doesn't want to stop there brings it back out to around the nine yard line and we've got some lingerie on the deck back at the 23-yard line and rod miller's unhappy yeah there was a defensive lineman that just absolutely uh buried tolbert there after the interception but if you look here like that ball if you're going to throw that corner out man you got to throw that corner out right away you know something i noticed on film last week is that he is waiting for his receivers to get open and he's got to throw guys open he's got to make it happen he can't hesitate you know two of their touchdown passes last week the interception personal foul unnecessary roughness defense number 56 sioux falls will keep the ball will enforce half the business of the goal first down so they'll go from the nine to the four and a half yard line dante holmes charged with the penalty but in the ifl but that's also how quick the bus can get back into this game so buck's just got to settle in and play some football put a drive together and answer buck's getting the ball back for the second time through an interception on their first drive a couple of bounces brown takes out the back of the end zone he's got some acceleration and he makes it out just past the 10-yard line flag came flying in good arm on the official to start with that might be the longest throw i've seen in this building the whole time i've been doing this surprise that one didn't hit the scoreboard [Music] so akiel sheppard is called for the block in the back for bismarck so it'll go from the 10 to the 5 yard line for the bucks bunch drive started fantastic 27-yard pass to get inside the 10. two plays later an interception what needs to change well again you're going to compete to complete some passes again hit some hitches let him get comfortable um or you know again go empty and run hitches with everybody tried to make this uh a one receiver route here brown can't haul it in on the sideline it is a bucks team that is looking for some consistency at the quarterback position despite the success last year seven wins they did it with five different starting quarterbacks yeah i mean that that's a nightmare for coach miller it's a nightmare for any coach you have to teach that system because your system doesn't get to progress you don't get to advance a system because you keep you know you keep having to bring guys in and just teach them the basic system a flag right at the snap [Applause] and officials are signaling false start all-star offense number 10 happens to the goal edgar allen poe jr called for the false start and this is something head coach rod miller talked about this week you don't want mistakes period but against a team like sioux falls they're killers yeah yeah this is the ifl i mean you know you make and you're going to end up getting beat you know you make them against sioux falls and and it could be a blowout so they got to settle in and make something happen tolbert over the middle paul hauls it in big hit harris taylor got in there caught at about the five yard line good job just hold on to this thing so look at how long this takes you know poe is sitting and waiting he ran a hitch he's sitting and waiting for the ball that ball needs to get to him a lot faster so poke can make a move and try to break a tackle tolbert needs to be more decisive he knows where he's going with that football he's got to get rid of it [Applause] third down and eight and another flag and some john here dante holmes letting the bucks know who he thinks it on they think it's on him a little snap offense number 51 half this is the goal third down an illegal snap on joseph palmer so third and eight but they'll have to back it up again [Applause] [Music] we've got third down i didn't i was uh so i was watching who uh sioux falls was subbing in i didn't see what quite what had happened but you know now you're sitting third and long you're inside year five and being behind the sticks right now just again you've got a lot of guys playing together this is uh kind of their first real taste of adversity in terms of being down to see how they respond tolbert starts one and he's got a man plus the first down john brunner the western illinois product they're excited about this young man yeah he was definitely the go-to guy against green bay and it's good to see him get involved in the passing game [Music] an 11-yard hookup with bruner spent some time at western illinois two touchdowns last week in the win over green bay big physical target that rod miller spoke highly about this week to us this time it's the pitch off glides with the head of steam and a flag comes in just after the play so no shortage of laundry on the field in this one bucks already with several offensive penalties on them already it'll be second and six before the flag sue falls seems pretty confident it's on bismarck illegal block below the waist offense number 71 10 yard penalty first down so kyle lester the offensive lineman picks up the illegal block below the waist how much is this is sloppiness and how much is this new guys trying to figure it out with each other right now well you know with the block below the waist you know sometimes you know you come into this game and maybe there's some different rule sets um he may be on the back side of that run maybe tried to to cut the nose guard and if i remember correctly i feel like he's the only person he can cut is the man that is on him so that defensive end so i'm not 100 sure on that but that could have been that could have been it first and 18 at the 12 quick out to brown and we're talking a little bit off the air before the game that that's one area you'd like to see tolbert do a little bit more is getting the ball out quicker yeah and actually on his last two passes i mean he did a phenomenal job the pastor to bruner um was just on that on that post the sit down post that ball was right there and then here on that hitch ball was right there so you know i think coach miller is probably telling him like hey man you know where you're going now get that ball out of your hands so he's already he's made that adjustment and that's what that's what he needs to do second down at 11 after the seven yard pickup tolbert with time gets it away running across the middle it's poe junior again with another big catch down inside the 15. it's a really nice job [Music] just good patience there and in in tolbert's defense i'm gonna i'm gonna flip this a little bit he's working with these receivers for the first time so you know until he gets comfortable with how these wide receivers run routes you know timing is a big part of it too so you know it's tough for him he's got to kind of sit back and again just adjust how everybody runs routes already three catches 52 yards now it's tolbert on the run 6-6 and not afraid to run over a guy that's something miller really likes about tolbert yeah he had a couple in that second half he had a couple of nice runs he's a big body guy and you know i think you see guys in indoor football with those bigger quarterbacks you know once you kind of get inside that 15-yard line or you start getting into the red zone you're going to see a little bit more quarterback runs and tolbert spent time last year with the tucson sugar skulls didn't see the field but miller thinks sitting for a year probably did him some good and now he's ready to take the helm picks up two yards on that carry give to glines skates inside the five and down about the three that's a really nice job there again you know close battling the big body receiver is battling lines is able to again get north south and fall forward for four yards [Music] now it'll be first down and goal at the two yard line for bismarck and this is an area where they struggled last week five trips inside the red zone resulted in just six points even in the win yeah so if they're going to beat sioux falls they've got to maximize their opportunities in the red zone here tolbert you know just like i was talking about before you get into the red zone quarterback runs are great because when the quarterback runs you get that blocker back lines was able to pick up that linebacker and then tolbert again just that big body is able to fall forward into the end zone and he's getting really nice blocking up front as well through three touchdowns last week his first running touchdown and now our first look at new kicker chase olbaugh out for his first extra point here at the event center bad snap poe junior's got a run with it tries throwing it up was looking for zone a little bit and let things happen in front of you let your defensive line go to work tag certainly thrilled with the last bucks drive and before that you saw new bucks defensive coordinator chris hemphill was in charge of special teams and the defensive backs last year got the promotion to defensive coordinator he's got some work to do he does but you know he's a competitor and all these guys are competitors so it's a great opportunity for them to come out you know and and it's tough you know just like we talk about a quarterback and a wide receiver all these dbs working together for the first time short kick and storm we're going to get a short field here at about midfield [Music] so after the short kick a little bit of extracurricular after the back but storm will get it with a short field they'll start here at about the bucs 22 yard line and take a look at head coach curtis riggs the all-time winningest head coach in the ifl different team this year he admitted he said we brought guys back and sort of let guys come back the last couple years in the sake of they deserve to defend their title things didn't work out last year first time in franchise history under 500 was time to hit the reset button yeah absolutely and sometimes it's great to bring in a group of young guys and he said you know he talked about how much more fun they're having this year with that fun group of guys or just a young group of guys that are hungry that want to learn that they're going to play within the system and not freelance kind of what they experienced a little bit last year so sounds like he's got a good group fumbled snap and the knee went down for wilson so an unproductive first down the second down and ten rings 246 wins was inducted into the ifl hall of fame last year has made the storm the bar here in the ifl 14-6 early lead wilson time dart over the middle too far for thompson so you look at that zone look they had three guys sitting around that post so it could have been dangerous if they would have hit that slant but it worked out for the bucks and the bucks weren't going to get beat deep there only one returner on this buck's defense that's linebacker cam tell you what the storm came out excited in this one touchdowns on each of their first two drives and here on the third they're knocking on the door first of all the nine yeah they're giving coach riggs exactly what he wanted in terms of production you know they're they're on pace you know in terms of uh again taking advantage of those possessions they're on pace to do something here wilson handoff for nate chavis noah keeper and the bucks had it sniffed out patrick macon came up for the defensive line won an nal title last year in the arena league with albany this is somebody that rod miller is thrilled to have in the locker room yeah he definitely caught my attention when i was watching last week's game against green bay you know he's unblocked there but again he just has good eye discipline he's he didn't shift his body he was parallel to the line of scrimmage so again he was able to react and make a really really nice play so no gain in fact a loss of two second down and goal from the 11. both touchdowns in the first quarter were deep touchdowns of 43 and 35 through the air back to the air the storm go wilson in trouble he runs for it and he's pushed into the boundary at about the 10-yard line this last sequence for the box is the best we've seen so far and it could have been a little bit better i feel like making judging by his reaction was being held but he lost sight of the quarterback hunt did a great job just running right down the chimney but they could have had a sack there if macon would have been able to get off that block but again just as you said you know third and goal from the 11 you know they're really in a good position here it is tough to pass you know in in these red zones up here these aren't the deepest end zones so look for the bucks to bring some pressure and man everybody up and try to force an early throw team that didn't run the ball a ton with their backs and we've got a delay of the game five yard penalty third down and so a couple of negative plays and curtis riggs not known for being the most even tempered coach in the league up at his crew yeah he'll let you know he's yeah he's he's a he's a competitor i mean there's a reason that he's got rings for about every digit and uh there's a reason he's a hall of famer he's a heck of a coach sioux falls and things like that so i'm sorry just you know delay a game that's just unacceptable for him riggs will take the time out to talk to his team stolen up 14-6 [Music] and we'll keep things right here a quick timeout curtis riggs with some words of encouragement some of five catches 51 yards only five eight but this guy who knows how to get over yeah he knows how to run routes in indoor football he knows where the holes are they basically ran the same exact play as the last time but tolbert finally went to that weak side hitch out to the 16 after a solid pickup on first down tolbert gets it to the sideline glides there fights for the first down [Applause] first year buck that'll dear you to the faithful yeah that was a nice that was a really nice play and it was essentially the same play that the storm just tried to run on the bucks so the wide receivers are pushing off coverage blind just sneaks out into the flat tober does a nice nice job with the check down and we're going to see that a lot out of ben glein's this year when he was at boston college one of the reasons rod miller wanted him is because a good running back but also great hands coming out of the backfield case in point there nine yards and a first down let's go with this one and ruled it in complete pass and lucky otherwise warning rolling on the field is the incomplete forward that was a close one got to see this replay here but again just settle down settle in [Music] just in a rush challenging ruling on the field of a forward pass the first play is under further review and so you heard it their officials rather sioux falls is challenging the ruling of an official forward past go into the into the uh the a gaps you know he cannot exchange with the defensive end and go outside into the b gap so it'll be a first down for the bucks been an up and down half for bismarck first drive got into the red zone then through an interception second had three offensive penalties still scored a touchdown for the 21 glides into the teeth of the defense and scurries to about the 16. i've been waiting for that for a while like just let's get everybody's hands on the ground and let's just run let's give him the football between the guards and let's see what he can do here and miller one another one of the reasons they like this kid straight north and south not a lot of flash involved yeah look how fast he gets to the line of scrimmage and if you can get somebody on that linebacker good things are going to happen last play for boston college in 2019 originally from cincinnati ohio and now here with the bucks three carries also catch out of the backfield today second the green bay game you know he had to waste two timeouts just to avoid delay of game so he wants this process sped up that play call needs to get in um needs to be communicated faster these guys got to get up lined up quicker only two returners on this offense shaheen bird wideout is still not with the team as they go end zone and out of bounds they were looking for bruner in the end zone and then here today dante ogberg starting offensive lineman so still some chemistry to be desired yeah i don't know if he was expecting or just trying to hit a little bit of a more more of a back shoulder but again just throwing it up and trying to let his guy compete but that ball was a little bit too far behind him so it'll be fourth down and three from the 14 yard line tolbert time end zone out of bounds but a flag in the end zone brown wanted interference and he may have gotten it yeah he did a really nice job running this route and the safety didn't really have a choice but to get a piece of them there [Applause] pass interference defense number three automatic first down at the two-yard line [Music] the flag on famous hastings yeah so they they tried to run that that corner out into the end zone earlier and tolbert threw a pick but again brown has such speed that he's able to get on that safety's heels you know coach riggs is not happy about that call either but this is a big break for the bucks getting a first and goal from the two now they have to take advantage of this eight combined penalties this one puts the bucks in business handoff for glinds maybe got a yard but a flag at the snap i think we're going to get an illegal defense potentially illegal defense number eight was inside the belt at the snap half the distance replay first down so you hear paris taylor the linebacker inside the belt at the snap for those who knew the i have been i'll explain what the belt is yeah so now that they're inside the five nobody on that defense could be past the goal line as far as the safeties go or corners everybody has to be back and just the outside safety was just a little bit too close here storm all over this one taylor and holmes gobbling up grinds so the last two play calls you know basically you're at the two you're inside the two-yard line they need a lead blocker you're basically running toss and if you look nobody nobody's able you gotta choose between a safety or linebacker to block they don't have enough people to block that guy so from first to goal to two to first and goal at the one to now second and goal at the three last time down here it was the 6-6 tolbert doing it himself for the two-yard run and you probably expect the same thing right here tolbert elects the throw was trying to squeeze it in a tight window for bruner [Music] again it's tough timing is so big right here so in the in the red zone and here in the end zone when you see a quarterback double pump that's usually not a good thing so the bucks who struggled in the red zone last week six points and five trips they are one for one today able to score a touchdown run for two at beg your pardon see what they could cook up here third and goal to three tolbert pumps see you know we got some tough angles up here but it's tough to see if if he touched that wall or was pushed into the wall before he got in but you know the official saw it and and basically said that it's a great target he's no nationally ranked power lifter we need that for you we need that strictly for our analysts absolutely but he's uh he's got way more hops than i do i'll tell you that with the ifl hall of famer robert fuller david sugarman on and after a rough start bucks got down 14-0 seemingly in the blink of an eye storm touchdown pucks int another storm touchdown bucks have made their run 17-13 and that bounces out of play perfect so the storm out of bounds baldwin plays at the 5-yard line first down we'll start things off at the five yard line storm three drives three scores but the bucks were able to pick up a at least the whole i should say the storm real field goal the last time now yeah that's important because you know you're not looking at 21-13 right now now it's he's able to get a little bit past the line of scrimmage almost a dangerous play right out of the timeout yeah i tell you what that actually should have been a safety right there the defensive end was depth it was definitely impeded so let's watch this match up here number 75 on our defensive end could have easily been called for holding right there that which would have resulted in the safety it was joel galvin who would have been the guilty party there instead it's second down and eight so smith a little bit of trouble here in the early going played for the west texas warbirds a year ago of the arena football association curtis riggs said he and a few of his teammates who came over put up video game like numbers let's see it just bombs one deep still worth somehow came down with it unreal dilworth ruled down at about the 17-yard line just a rainbow delivery for smith now riggs can't be happy with with smith just throwing up slot but it sure worked out there and if you're hemphill you have got to just be furious that you can have three db's back there and not a single one of them was there to make that play a 26-yard hookup for smith and dilworth they did that a lot he was one of those wide outs who came over from the warbirds he caught 41 catches and 15 of them were touchdowns 26 yard catch there he's got 40 in this first half first and 10 from the 19. smith more trouble with the snap and macon there from the back [Applause] three plays two fumbled snaps a timeout and a ball that goes for 26 yards say what you want smith ain't boring man yeah i tell you what you know you're kind of at a point right now that any every time the ball snap you're holding your breath because you don't know what's going to happen so just a one yard loss it'll be second down and they're not even gonna say it's a one-yard loss now that is a one-minute warning excuse me set the game clock to one minute that takes us to the one-minute warning here in bismarck we'll take a break sides and smith a little hitch in his giddy up coming out of that scrum yeah and that's and that's tough you know when you're that that safety coming over you know is he down you know play was over personal foul unnecessary roughness late hit defense number two half distance to the goal automatic first down so robert brown jr is called for the late penalty and you can see right there 11 combined penalties in this first half that's the sixth on bismarck and it'll be first and goal at the fourth [Music] worth noting smith asked looked like he was asking to come out of the game after that hit he ran right to the sideline so taz wilson who we've seen the majority of the half will come back out yeah smith definitely got rocked he's he's definitely in some pain first and goal from the four wilson miscommunication chevious scores anyhow a late give chavious says give me that thing taking the rock to the end zone yeah just definitely took a little time developing on that read but you know when in doubt give it to chavius because he's probably going to do something pretty significant without football [Music] special team player of the year last year was also the only player to do that at multiple positions special teams and running back one of the first times we've called his name today he makes an impact yeah absolutely and who knows if he would have had his passport ready he this game and it's it's still a close game here um but they definitely have to do something with the opportunities that they have and they got to try to force a stop but uh sioux falls you know coach riggs is you know it's definitely not the cleanest game that that he wants to see he's frustrated you know you see him getting after some of his players on the on the sidelines but you know again he's a competitor and they're you know they're ahead of where they were last week last week they were good enough for a win 35-24 at home over the quad city steam wheelers their first game in two years and now looking for a road win in bismarck brown out of the end zone and they have been all over him he is a speedster but they were on top of it and as he's been the theme another flag already 11 combined in this first half [Music] jamal hicks called for the illegal block in the back and so once again the bucks will move things in the wrong direction so when you play your kick return team you play so many guys up it really makes it difficult for them to maintain blocks for so long and sioux falls is so good on special teams those guys are running down the field at full speed you're asking guys to hold blocks for four or five seconds that's really challenging when they're that close to the football so fast guys in a short field makes her for a tough life on specialty absolutely first and goal from the four tolbert finds bruner out at about 10 bucks got a hustle they do have two timeouts [Applause] [Music] so it's got to be got to be patient here but they got to they got to move things along next play's got to be along the boards so they could stop this clock clock winds under 30 seconds [Applause] at 20. tolbert hits his man hasty with a great tackle rosario with the catch and miller [Music] and mod miller will spend a time at second charge timeout bismarck so they basically just ran a curl right there it would have been you know they could have written ran an out route right there but at least they got the first down that's the most important thing no sir they've got 16 seconds left you know one time out you know so they just got to settle in you know potentially have two plays ready but again they've got to look for plays along the sidelines so they can stop the clock bucks do have one timeout romania you see the numbers there for tolbert 11 for 16 109 yards one score through the air one on the ground and an interception through an intersection on the opening drive since then back to back touchdowns and looking for points before the half bucks will start the third quarter with the football tolbert uncorks bruner that's been his favorite target over these first couple of weeks and that'll be second and ten yeah he was definitely looking down bruner but it's just time consuming it's hard to hold blocks that long kind of so again this is a again a great job by the defensive end he's a great get off very fast explosive does a great job working his hands so it'll be all ball coming out pretty much try and kick it the length of the field it's got some leg off to the left side out of play and the first half comes to a close bucks started down 14-0 made it close but the storm finished the first half strong they take a 24-13 lead going into the locker room both teams illegal substitution nine players on defense five yard penalty replay second down there'll be an untimed down so you just heard it because of nine men on the field only eight in the indoor game at least in this indoor game uh there'll be one untimed down for bismarck are you bringing the kicker back out or you're taking a shot here no bring that kicker out he's definitely got the leg for it you are playing with fire here because if you get this thing blocked this could go really really bad but now you have a kicker that actually has the leg and that can make this kick you also have chavious there sitting underneath those goal posts so it's about a 40 8-yard field goal to carlos thompson was a 14-nothing game bucks tried to respond had an early interception i tell you what for you know as as slow as the bucks have started they're still in this game but you know all sioux falls plays have been really big explosive plays if the bucks can eliminate that they're in good shape they have bucks we're able to respond after that opening drive interception they had a lot of success particularly with edgar allan poe junior and john bruner yeah bruner's run right here that was clutch nice block by klein's in that offensive line [Music] that storm defense has been tough inside our beck sports studios in bismarck i'm noah reed joined by bismarck bucks head coach rod miller coach first off thanks for taking the time to to join us today and you know let's let's start with the fan base because one thing we know is that the bismarck books they don't exist they don't thrive without the fan base and the community involvement how important is that to you guys that's very important you know when you play you want to get you know you get excited you're already pumped up anyway but when you get your fans behind you and supporting you and making a lot of noise and we can make that event center very loud that's always a good thing so that pumps you up even as a coach that gets you excited to have your fan fan base behind you and making a lot of noise and one of those groups that has been around for a long time uh really since the inception of the bismarck bucks they call themselves the horny bucks they're always up front they're rowdy they're loud they're into the games what can fans like that do as far as helping the atmosphere at the event center they always talk first of all they get the fans excited but at the same time they become a distraction for the other team and if you notice from the beginning to now we've actually moved the visiting team to where the horny works are so now they're blowing those horns right in their ears and it doesn't come with distraction i hear coaches get frustrated about it but that's what you want anything you can do to help you that ninth man section is always a good section so we love the horny bucks they're great they get the cars involved on and off the field they've done things uh for the players off the field and situations like that so it's great having a group like that that supports you one of the things that you and your guys are really good about is community involvement even the guys that aren't from here that don't really know bismarck until they get here shortly before the season there's community involvement they really make bismarck their home for the summer however long they are uh here in town why is that important for you guys you know and that's part of one thing you always want to give back to the community and that's how you get involved and also with the league as well you know that's what the league is based on getting involved because you can't go to any other sport where you can actually get down on the field and talk to the players and the coaches to interact with the fans right after the game so that's always been a big thing of indoor football is having that opportunity to do that you know we take that i take it as a pride i've always been a community person like i said i've been in this business for 24 years and before that i work with kids so kids has always been something that i've always been fond to and been involved in that and you have to because that's the future not just in sports but anything that cares about your future so you gotta you gotta show that support they come support us and we wanna support them as well you've been in the coaching industry like you said for over 20 years now this is the start of your third season fourth center here next week it'll be green bay then the defending champion massachusetts pirates then a trip on the road to bay area and then back home for games against quad city in san diego i know it's early in the season and a lot of new guys trying to mesh together coach but given how many chances they have at home right now feels like they got to rack up some of these wins early yeah it's kind of twofold you know in that you do have your home games right now but it actually hey that that should be a benefit to you when you have a young squad and you're at home you have the benefit of the home crowd not having to travel you know you can make some some changes if necessary but you know they definitely have to grow up in a hurry and they have to take advantage of having all of these home games coming into this stretch real quick is there a game on that schedule that you're circling looking forward to the most i'm looking forward to all of them i mean if i'm here in north dakota man i'm showing up to the event center to watch these games but if i've got to watch on tv i'm excited about the green bay matchup maybe just because of coach roberson who i who i coached with before but then you know to have massachusetts come into town you've got the defending champ coming in time that's huge so a lot of exciting opportunities a lot of exciting games back to the task at hand bucks started the half down 14 to nothing were able to make their push however start the third quarter down 24-13 a turnover plus seven penalties got to clean things up here in the third how do they do it yeah for sure you know and again it's just everybody doing their job it's nothing more than that alignment assignment technique and effort you know when you try to do other people's job you just struggle in quicksand and you can't have that so everybody's got to settle down start having some fun so the bucks will get the football to start the third quarter brown back deep to receive petrie in to kick things away bismarck and their home opener trying to pick up their first ever win over sioux falls oh and five all-time two blowout losses last year trying to prove they're not the same old bucks coming off a franchise record seven wins looking for their second in this early season campaign against the storm petrie has had to kick it away to start this third quarter [Music] [Applause] [Music] line drive through the back of the end zone and the bucks will start things off at the five yard line kickoff out of bounds without touching the wall the ball replaced at the 20-yard line and beg your pardon because the ball never touched the wall as the official just pointed out it will start at the 20. so right off the bat good field position for the bucks great field position it's gonna be really interesting to see what coach decides to do how he's gonna you know what what this third quarter is gonna look like in terms of play calling you know if they're gonna settle in run the football a little bit more keep their defense off the field you see the numbers there for tolbert 11 out of 17 109 yards a score through the air and on the ground through a pick on his first drive solid since out to glines and picks up a yard maybe two but that's something they want to keep going to rod miller said they want to make an effort to get it to glides out in space oh for sure he's dangerous um and you know so they just ran the screen out there and you know sioux falls it seems like teams that run a lot of screens are really good at defending the screen so really nice job by the storm defense holding the bucks to barely a yard second down and nine at the 21. [Applause] tolbert wanted poe junior a miscommunication and good coverage in the secondary to corey and darden spent last year with the louisville extreme for the team went under and one of the many new additions to the sioux falls defense the secondary that was pretty strong in that first half yeah they're you know even though they have new guys as well you know they do have some key returners back there and they have some really really good football players it'll be third down and nine from the 21. tolbert endzone [Applause] too much on it wanted rosario and it'll be fourth down that's tough you've got to take advantage of those opportunities you know you see him thrown off of his back foot you know if he was able to throw that a little bit earlier hit that wide receiver in stride he would have had a chance miller talked a lot about for tolbert the idea of adjusting from practice to game speed is that an example of that yeah for sure i mean most of the things that you know that's a great observation you know it's just most of the things you're seeing right now is because of they're trying to adjust to this game speed things are happening different oh snatches one out of the air good enough for a first down all the way to about the 15-yard line oh junior quickly making himself one of his favorite targets i'll tell you what he's a big target and that was a really clutch catch there's not too many wide receivers running around you know in professional football that that played at army you know so that's uh that's significant but he's a really really big target you know he's got some swag he's got some attitude you know he wants to help his team compete and win a football game attended army and built like a soldier 6'5 215 and glein's is swallowed in the backfield hasn't been a whole lot of space for him yeah the storm defense again they're playing they're playing lights out you know one thing i noticed about the bucks last week is i felt like their offensive line played really really well in the first half but then they started it looked like they started to get a little bit tired in that second half they just seemed to get a little bit sloppier you know their technique wasn't as sharp so so it's a loss of three for glenn second down to 13 back in the 18. tolbert lobs going over the middle it's rosario [Applause] seems like they've been attacking the middle a lot why has there been so much open space for the receivers in the middle of the field well you know they they've routinely both teams have routinely thrown to kind of the weak flat so in most zone defenses there's going to be an there's going to be a hole in one of those zones that time actually sioux falls blitzed so you can't quite just you know they're playing off they're trying to keep things in front of them but there's always going to be a hole somewhere third and six at the 11. tolbert lobs and goes out of play brings up fourth down [Music] in the first half you made an observation usually when you're down here and you're pump faking it's a it means bad things why does that keep happening to toll for when they're knocking on the door you know i don't know if it's just you know he's well number one there's not a lot of room number two the storm defense is really good um but just you know i think he kind of you know he knows where he wants to go but then all of a sudden that's not open you know i think they wanted to hit that route right up along the wall but the receiver got caught up in garbage another pump fake and this one is incomplete wanted poe jr for a strong change no flags and the storm come up with a big stop yeah big stop by the storm basically held the bucks scoreless on their last two possessions so the storm will come back out onto the field was an interesting end to the first half after sticking with quarterback taz wilson most the first half they went to daniel smith and illegal hit on him he was hurt has to come out of the game wilson back out there what do you like two touchdown passes sorry it's loud in here wilson is good you know the the storm are in a really great situation where they've got two pretty dynamic quarterbacks um you know i like what i'm seeing from wilson so far you know i wasn't [Music] i was actually surprised that he was their number one guy you know you're so used to you're so used to you know a lorenzo brown or some of these other guys coming back but for him to take that role and again just settle in i mean i'm seeing some really good things you know i feel like coming in i kind of had i'm a skeptic in terms of like when i'm really curious on who they're gonna they're gonna give the nod to as far as their starting quarterbacks and i was a little surprised that sioux falls started off with wilson but i really like what i'm seeing from him you know he's taking command of of the field he's doing a good job he's obviously proven that he's he could throw a really nice deep ball um [Music] i just i like what i'm seeing from him and i think he's a player that's only going to get better and he's going to get pushed smith is really good um he's proven that he's really mobile and he has a great relationship with these receivers so [Applause] they'll start on their own 11 yard line time hit as he throws davis is rocks cam hunts [Music] [Applause] nice shot by hunt now good pressure by the bucks defense and hunt is right there you know hunt is basically he's playing that linebacker position but he's basically the same size as the safety so he does a really nice you're definitely going to be here but uh i think they've got a holding penalty and you know personal foul but the bucks are kind of reacting like the first flag is thrown here so in the area of holding and then there's a second flag if you can see number 70 on sioux falls just tangled up with a right here looked like it was there are two fouls on the play both will be enforced personal foul face mask offense number two that's a 15-yard penalty after the play on sportsmail like conduct defense number 44 his first of the game that would be half business of the goal first down so i don't know how often you see this if if this was the correct call they called taz wilson the storm quarterback for a face mask and then you can see rod miller trying to talk to his defensive lineman patrick bacon who picked up the unsportsmanlike penalty so looking at the quarterback wilson whoever had the face mask must have been a wrong number because wilson's well behind the play there yeah but you know just can't have that that penalty from making their um that's costly so after all that it will be first down in 10. the ball is marked down only first down and 12 forgive me [Applause] [Music] wilson deep ball thompson over the wall touchdown storm thompson jr with the matrix-like acrobatics for his second score that's outstanding catch i mean just outstanding pitch and catch just great throw by wilson put it just right where his receiver could catch it and then how about the concentration right here all he sees is that football and there's no fear there's no uh no self-preservation instinct right there but that's what makes indoor football receivers great is those guys that concentrate knowing that they're gonna they're gonna catch some pavement week two and we might have hill if he was nominated like i'm here because i've had tremendous success with those guys but when you tell me he won the harlan hill yeah i'm absolutely in because i know those guys that play at that level especially in d2 to be considered a finalist those are big time football players that usually do really well in indoor football an immensely talented young man his last year that he won the harlan hill award 27 touchdowns just six interceptions drops a dime to rosario at the eights and he played i believe he played at ferris state great program just won another national championship but again that's a tough conference too the gliac so he probably feels right at home being here in bismarck as far as the weather goes a lot less trees but hey it's starting to get nice this time of year yeah first and goal from the eight keeper for campbell flag on the field and no shortage of those today [Music] yeah for sure but you look at that speed that campbell hits a hole [Music] you can see might have another illegal defense a game that has already has 17 penalties hendricks illegal defense numbers 41 and number eight were not lined up in the back of the belt half the distance replay first down so back-to-back penalties both regarding not being far enough to the back of the belt hendrix the guilty party on both occasions along with paris taylor so now halfway again eight to four four to two i'm glad they're so close to the end zone that's about the extent of my mathematics skills and now it's first and goal from the two so maybe look quarterback run to the right [Applause] campbell does just that got back to the line of scrimmage hendricks all over it so if that play was designed to go maybe outside so blind line has got to make sure that he gets the shoulder of you know depending on where that play was going it should have which i imagine was going to go just inside the guard he's got to get his head on the other shoulder of that linebacker he basically just hit he just basically hit the linebacker right into the hole storm defense that has been stingy all evening the bucks have been inconsistent in the red zone to start this year play clock down a three come back or not with a lot to go back and clean some things up next week yeah they definitely have uh and again it's the second game you want to see a movement though you know you make you make the biggest improvements from game one to game two but it just feels like they've taken a step back in terms of again just playing clean fundamental footballs too many penalties so instead of first and ten will be first and five from the 22 play action deep ball still worth open touchdown storm and just like that sioux falls answers 28-yard score and not a good sign dilworth hauled it in but the trainers right out to see him after the fact hopefully he's going to be okay i mean he jumped up so high to catch that football it could have happened when he landed but just nice job by tazz off the incredible focus she knows he put his foot on the ground [Music] yeah this is going to be a minute here a lot to stay out there for the extra point like the officials just pointed out but right now start the fourth quarter in a 17 point hole here in their home opener with the ifl hall of famer robert sugarman on hand at the event center 17-point hole to dig themselves out of where does it start for bismarck well on this next drive it's i'm a little puzzled just my initial thought it's just i'm surprised they're not running it a little bit more um but now that you know if they go with campbell again it's gonna be it's gonna be interesting to see you know what they do he just provided them a big time spark and we'll see if they go with them they go with him again here a couple of bounces and goes out of the end zone so bucks will start with it on their own five yard line you touched on backup quarterback jayru campbell came out for his first drive at the end of the third quarter with the help of a couple penalties made a couple of plays scored a touchdown he's back out there and he really brought a new dimension to the offense but maybe we haven't seen the first three quarters well i tell you what there's some things that have stood out to me is he's really fast and he's really decisive when they went for two they ran kind of they ran a return route and that ball was right there if he would have waited any longer that db would have been able to close and deflect it so campbell was one for one for eight yards also at a two yard touchdown run here he starts at the gun tyne hit as he lets it go nearly intercepted darden nearly got to that one and bucks fans unhappy they wanted a flag wow yeah i'm a little surprised there but uh so we'll watch this here he's hanging on to that ball a long time [Applause] i can see what the official is looking at just because the receiver is kind of falling down did seem though that darden may have been sort of propelling off the shoulders yeah that could have rosario that could have gone either that could have gone either way but fans definitely know what they wanted to see instead second and ten campbell wanted rosario again instead it's third down to 10. continues to tick here in bismarck [Music] you have two quarterbacks and if he was the number two going in you know he's not he's probably had a little bit you know he's had fewer reps than tolbert has so again just timing they're going to go through this process with him as well just timing and rhythm third down 10 from the 5. bucks need offense campbell zips one and he finds his man in the hole poe junior with another catch and a big first down about a 17-yard game poe's definitely been been the guy to go to just such a big target and he's done a really nice job kind of finding those open holes on crossing routes [Music] oh with five catches now on the day four of them have been for at least 14 yards or more so picking up chunk plays first and ten at the 22 option pitch glinds and picks up about three you know when we were talking before the game you want said you wanted a heavy dose of bent blind somewhere in the 15 to 20 carry range that's only i believe the seventh carry of the ball game yeah and unfortunately a couple of those have been on kind of that speed that speed option um you know and that's tough i don't know if if klein is that guy that just operates well when his eyes are just back and waiting for the football as opposed to having his eyes on the defense does pick up five on that one campbell and zone flags flying it looked like there was shoving both ways on the edge between rosario and zach miller [Applause] officials are signaling in sioux falls direction pass interference defense number 24 15 yard penalty automatic first down and so while miller is helped on the field the penalty is actually on 24 to corey and darden here in the back going against paul yeah it looked like he getting a little handsy back there official kind of blocks our our view here but you know campbell is uh he's kind of watching his body language and talking to coach miller you know he's he's pretty animated i feel like he's he sees some things that he wants to go after so the penalty will give a chance cam for campbell to go after some things inside the 10. down to the eight yard line first down and goal bucks need six sweet klein sutter step great tackle jordan who just had the penalty made the stop you know again just running toss against the defense is really challenging you know it's it's a numbers game and sioux falls is always going to have one more than you can block out there i would really really love to see them run dives just again test that middle hit that middle neutralize that lateral speed by the storm defense and this is one and that's a really what ron miller says will be a strength of blinds once he gets comfortable in this offense he's a north south up and down type of runner this time it's campbell lobs one up batted away there was a lot of hand fighting in the end zone that was a great play and i think that's actually carlos thompson jr who we've seen as a receiver today in the secondary here maybe because zach miller just went out of the game with an injury so thompson making plays on both ends well you know in indoor football you got to go you got to have some guys that that can do it both ways and that is just an outstanding play right there you know you could tell look at his body language he's hyped he's got some swagger he's not scared of anybody out here and when you're playing db in indoor football that's what you gotta have thompson junior fired up third and goal at the eight batted at the line looks like jay sean washington might have gotten his paws on that one fourth down and eight pretty much gotta have it here for the bucks what do you think miller is telling his quarterback yeah this is this is a tough situation i mean he's you know he's got a play call that he likes um it'd be interesting to see you know if they run action to the wide side of the field and try to hit something coming back across campbell steps up grind space beautiful touchdown bismarck benjamin glides takes a seat in the end zone for the first time this season and the bucks have a chance to claw back within 10. love the play call because the way sioux falls was reacting to trips they're rolling that backside corner over and they just snuck lines out and he has the speed right there to get it punched in just really nice patience by campbell be able to hit that back into the flat which seems like all quarterbacks tonight are having a problem with that except for him all ball for the extra point up and good is back down to a manageable deficit j that's a great question it's guys with good body control that understand route concept so running backs that will actually take the time to run routes with receivers learn you know learn the routes and and have good route discipline you know and again just his body type i mean he's fast he's explosive he's in control of himself when he runs and just some of those guys just have it naturally in the meantime sioux falls six drives six all of them scoring five touchdowns pretty much now or never for this buck's defense how can they clamp up and make something happen yeah well that's a great question they haven't been able to do it yet so far but his dbs can't give up anything just anything cheap and quick and that's kind of been sioux falls storm defense or offense excuse me it's just been explosive this has been all big plays tonight taz wilson four touchdown passes today two for more than 30 yards this time out on the sideline he's got keith shoved in to the boundary hicks in there on the stop and just watching the just watching the corner react you know he definitely didn't want to get beat but you know as they get more comfortable in the system you know they're gonna know when they can break on some of these again he's running an eight-yard route breaking down and the corner is just getting there after the ball has gotten there it's just taking a long time and the clock continues to run two possession game fourth quarter over halfway gone chavious they haven't gone to him a ton today but he gets out to the 22-yard line and that's the one thing i saw last week you know and i'm sure they watch that film as well is you know watch them bring this wide receiver down on hunt you know and they just kind of route him out of there and chavis is able to cut it back jamie's pretty special obviously pretty special football player but just three carries today does have the one touchdown was all ifl's are running back last year first team and the ifl special team player of the year only player to do that wilson scurries out of trouble and picks up a yard maybe two at this point you're probably starting to think about trying to force the turnover what do you try to do different different defensively to ratchet up that aggressiveness i just you know there's nothing in particular that you can do because you still have to play within the scheme you just have to play aggressive and you got to get everybody to that football you know you can't just assume that hunt is going to make that play uh just like he did he did a great job there but everybody's got to be flying to the football and usually when that happens something good happens like that trouble with the snap the flag box recovered it [Applause] and now a question snap infraction offense number 73 five yard penalty second down wow and so disappointment for the bucks defense that could have been the game changer yeah you could see it that was an awesome camera angle right there watch the ball interesting to see where he's at from a conditioning standpoint but he's obviously pretty darn awesome with the ball movement at the line bismarck's confident it's on sioux falls all-star offense number 73 penalty third down so jerome brown charged with a false start two falls will move things back again [Music] yeah when you're four 300 pounds people are going to see you if you move [Music] [Applause] not a lot of incognito for guys on the offensive line and now it is third and very long third down and 18. the event center crowd making some noise under five minutes wilson all day to throw [Music] still some life in bismarck that's a nice job so [Music] bismarck dropped everybody except for the nose guard on that one cows went to the right guy but they just couldn't they just timing was off [Music] johnson junior has already caught two touchdowns they even had him in as a defensive back on the last drive when zach miller went out with an injury he's done it all they stop him here [Music] petrie out for a deep field goal [Applause] bucks have brown back if the kick is short petri fires went into the netting up top and that should give the bucks good field position as well you can take a look there not only did it hit the scoreboard it got caught in the netting ball should be about midfielder or the 20. that's right so the bucks will get good kill believe they start with it on the 20-yard line now that's exactly where they'll get it on their own 20. so good field position and down 10 a chance to cut this to a one possession ball game and again we talked about some of the interesting quirks of the ifl it's the scoreboard that happens you get good field positions tell you what calling calling games over the over the years it's amazing how many times that big old scoreboard is just snuck in here and blocked a kick [Applause] wouldn't play petri and horse it's a great shot but nonetheless first and ten from the 20. campbell gets away from pressure darts one for brown and he brings it in took the shot from hasty and held on buck's got a move that was awesome that was awesome but like you said they got to move they got to have a sense of urgency here but you want to talk about elusive you want to talk about speed to play the indoor game that was it right there that defensive end out of dead to rights campbell felt it 13 yards from campbell to brown glides to the outside gets to the 15 brought down by taylor and i like that play call just again running kind of that running a different option to the wide side of the field just that read to the wide side holds the defensive end so then you don't even have to block them now under three minutes to go the bucks were able to come up with their first stop of the ball game but still down two scores they've trailed by as many as 18 in this one campbell wanted brown through his hands and he got rocked miller who came off the field on the last drive with an injury trying to hurt somebody else yeah brown would have would have loved to have that and have that ball placement a little bit lower and away and not in tight but uh it's a nice job by the by the corner just coming in and putting the boom on clock continues to wind under two time for campbell he's got poe junior brought down by hasty for progress will take him near the sticks tough hit by hasty ho junior down poe junior has been the guy today man he's been there and when you have such a big target he can kind of box people out you know at six five and he's got those long arms so rod miller and the trainers out right now to look at poe junior tough hit from hasty and poe junior able to get up under his own power and being helped off by the trainers well a good sign there and a good show of sportsmanship was a tough hit but certainly didn't look malicious by any means yeah no it's just it's just hard football famous asd is just you know he's a class act he's been he had a really nice rookie season last year and he's doing a really nice job this year so in the meantime that brings up first and goal for the bucks they'll be without poe junior been one of their best receivers today from the seven campbell keeps slithers inside the five just keeps squirming all the way down to the two he extended [Music] all the way down to the two first charge timeout bismarck and we'll take a quick break now he's getting celebrated in the end zone and the lead is just two bismarck still has life will keep it here with exactly one minute to go the bucks have two of their three timeouts remaining how can they pull this off well clock manager clock management and and these situations this is where indoor indoor coaches don't you know make their money but to have a mobile quarterback that can extend plays and then again just can still keep his eyes on the wide receivers that's exactly what you want his mark has never led in this game but they have been scrappy the whole way through down 14 nothing they were down 31-13 in the third quarter and have found a way to battle back down two now with exactly one minute to go trying to get a win in their home opener and their first ever win against sioux falls so [Applause] [Music] and keep in mind the bucks could kick a deuce here with a minute to go that would tie this game up so we might see the type of leg but i think chase all ball has and just based on where he's on he's lining up they don't appear to be going for an onside kick here so [Music] let's see if he can make it he's got the leg all ball goes deep it's good however before the kick first charge timeout sioux falls wow so curtis riggs the all-time winningest head coach in the ifl icing the kicker at just the right time incredible [Applause] the question is can is and how low it hangs here in bismarck to be able to wrap that thing around that was one of the best kicks that we've seen in indoor football i think last year frisco did it but again just and one thing we haven't talked about is just how quality of a kicker he is yeah chase all ball an incredible kicker at lenoir-rhyne university division two holds school records for the most extra points points field goals made and also has not missed an extra point since 2018 prior to last week here in bismarck he'll line it up again for two and the tie everybody's excited but [Music] [Applause] went off the scoreboard tough to do twice in a row [Applause] and now the bucks have to hope for something miraculous defensively a tough ass twice in a row yeah it is because there again they're gonna lot of trouble with the snap today luckily wilson was able to pick it up right away yeah that's putting some years on coach riggs watching that happen but uh just good execution there put them in a situation now looking at third and four you know they definitely want to is that the last time out for the bucks there oh they have one more so know the play call is you know what do you do here do you do you run the ball or do you actually you know run the ball make the bucks spend their last timeout kick a field goal or you know do you work to get that first down and just shut this shut this whole party down the storm trying to hold on for dear life [Music] have led the entire ball game by as many as 18 the lead is shrunk to two third and five wilson finds his man davis enough for a first down and now the storm are close to putting this one on ice yeah i mean that's again situational awareness if they throw third and final charge timeout bismarck if you throw something you you know they're throwing something that's got to go quick and they got it they're trying to get that first down got to play that thing tighter i get it you know they've they've thrown deep they've tried to hit post behind you but you know right there they're just trying to get a first down so that way again now they can run some quarterback sneaks or just again give champions to the ball this thing's done and a game that advantages the offense normally this is a moment where the defense has a little bit of an edge because as we refer to you can't take a knee or run a backwards play right at this point in the ball game otherwise the clock will stop so you do have to run a forward play which of course leaves room forever yeah absolutely the only time you wouldn't have to is if the coaches agree but this is not one of those situations especially with the way the storm handled some snaps here [Music] issues with snaps throughout this second half there it is right there's another bucks on and the door is open for bismarck like clockwork issues with the snap pretty much the entire fourth quarter the storm were ready to put this one away and the issue just kept happening morris got on top of it they put themselves in position here now again the turnover chain going to morris and the bucks who have trailed this entire ball game it was 14 nothing midway through the first quarter have one more shot no timeouts 42 seconds they've got it on their own 19-yard line so they're going to look to try to get that ball to at least the other 15. they don't have timeouts but 42 seconds in indoor football is an eternity campbell been good with his legs gets to midfield is trying to hurry to the snap they just got to relax under 30 seconds and campbell clocks it please reset the game clock to 26 seconds correction 27 seconds and the officials quickly caught it under a minute to go the clock does stop whereas the rest of the game almost always is a running clock scenario yeah tell you what three seconds that feels like an attorney right now bismarck only needs three what an effort this has been from the bucks jayru campbell the backup quarterback came into this game late in the third quarter and has just changed the dna of this ball game yeah this the whole complexion of this game has changed [Applause] the bucks who are oh and five all time against the storm [Applause] trying to pull off the comeback in dramatic fashion in their home opener from the 25. campbell to the sideline high pointed and brought in by rosario they get the first down and the clock stops i believe or no [Applause] the clock stops to set the marker [Applause] confusion here both the officials and campbell and now the clock begins to run [Applause] please reset the game clock to 22 seconds the clock will start on the snap the player was out of bounds it will start on the snap [Applause] and so you heard the officials there the clock will start on this rosario did get out of now that's what the confusion from campbell wants [Music] so catch your breath from the 20. [Applause] campbell runs forward for about three yards they might just try to be set up all ball for the winner yep everybody just settle down they're just gonna down here until don't just 10 seconds and spike by campbell [Music] that right there was not good he spiked he there's 10 seconds on the clock coach miller was very upset just him not understanding that again he should have let that he should have let that and he can't see where he's at he's right underneath the scoreboard so he can't see the game clock he can't tell that there's 10 seconds left so rookie rookie mistake you know by the time this process works itself out sioux falls is going to get the ball back with a couple seconds provided the question is when that happens will bismarck be on top all ball sets up for a field goal and two falls will use their last time final charge timeout sioux falls we'll keep things right here 10 seconds to go so chase we know he's got the leg we saw him hit what would have been the game tying deuce had curtis riggs not called timeout endzones in bismarck are about five yards deep so you're talking roughly a 30-yard field goal here and he's set up right in the middle couldn't ask for a better introduction of bismarck yeah for him this is a money kick here are my concerns is the pressure coming from the left side of this offensive line that's what i'm worried about right here you know green bay either blocked one i think they blocked one last week and that pressure came from this left side here so if i'm coach miller i'm maybe thinking about having my up back on this left side but here we go poe junior to hold the snap snap holder good opal gets the kick blocked hopped on top of by miller [Applause] and the storm are going to escape [Applause] and the storm fend off the bismarck comeback effort let's see that replay again so basically the storm ran a twist on that right side and i wasn't sure i'm not sure who it was but they did a great job getting the big paw up [Music] tough to see believe that's the hand of dante holmes the northern michigan product still a little tough to see here but if he doesn't get that hand up that's going right down the pipe and bucks win that game [Music] boom an incredible special teams play from the storm and 18 points they saw offense half the distance first down it take the delay of game all the storm needs to make sure now is that they snap the football they've proven that's not necessarily all that easy several fumbled snaps including one bismarck recovered that gave them the chance to kick that potential game winner now unless the bucks get a miracle it's looking like the storm will walk out of here 2-0 what a what a game and heck of a job by the bucks [Music] so wilson in the gun just hurls it out of so that's something that they've excelled at for over over a decade two decades whatever is their play on special teams they won a bunch of games on special teams sioux falls gets the job done here on the road 38-36 they go 2-0 these two will hook up again one more time this season in june into falls the bucks fall to one and one we'll have coverage when they're back here at the event center next
