[Music] what's up kids this is projects with chad's today we're going to try to get a pontoon boat to not sink in the lake i've got a pontoon that's taking on water in one of the tubes instead of waiting for the marina to find time to pull it out and fix it and pay an arm and a leg i'm just going to drill a hole in it and siphon the water out myself and i'm going to show you how to do that hopefully successfully okay to do this job you're going to need a few things i have them spread out here on the table first you're going to need a drill bit and a drill because you're going to drill a hole into your pontoon preferably in the back and up toward the top of course you're only going to be able to get a certain size drill bit into your drill and then the hole is going to need to be a little bigger so you can buy one of these little expander drill bit bits to bore out your hole so that you can fit this tube in and you need a little gap between the tube and the pontoon otherwise your pontoon might suck up like a beer can so i'm using this motor pump i got this ace hardware i don't recommend the little pumps that you use on a drill because i tried that earlier and it did not work not enough oomph to get the water up and out so you need extension cords to run out your dock so that you can plug your pump in you're gonna need a hose to fit on one side of this you need this little gadget and get the hardware or reducer so it's gonna reduce down to fit into this pipe i cut a clothes hanger to fit into this tube so that i can bend it and keep it straight when i feed it down into the pontoon and then after everything's sucked out i'm going to cap the hole with this plug you can kind of screw it tight and make it a little larger and then that'll just go in the side of the boat and then i'm going to put on my waders i'm going to walk around the boat because the water's still cold i'm gonna use this uh permanent water seal caulk silicone to fix the weld cracks and that's it so let's get it on all right we're outside now there's the pontoon doesn't look too dramatic but when we get up close you'll see so here's the boat it's 22 footer and it used to sit up out of the water a lot better [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] there's the hole and i gotta put on the other bit make that hole bigger so that fits the hose let's try the plug you don't want to drop the plug in the water and the plug fits it's a little loose so i'm gonna try to tighten it here turn it to the right it makes it larger yeah so that's a snug fit so i'm going to stick this hose and i have a a clothes hanger in here so i can bend it i want it to go straight into the bottom of the pontoon [Music] you can see how this is sitting pretty deep into the water the water line is about four inches below so i stick this all the way down pretty sure it's at the bottom right now and then i'm gonna turn her on and there's the water here's the motor all those waters in my pontoon crazy all right that's all she wrote it just started spitting uh air so we're done i'm gonna pull this out i actually stood on the back of the boat a little bit to get the water to run to the end and you can see this was my watermark a few days ago and i just gave it an extra four inch lift out of the water so i'm gonna put this plug in here that's a pretty snug fit and it should work until i can get this out of water and get an aluminum weld on it so my next step is to go around and do some silicone patching on these welds those welds in there you can see over on the far right i put some silicone on that one but i'm gonna redo it i'm gonna do all of them just to be safe so from tubing and torquing on this tow bar i'm sure i've stressed some of these welts and that's where the water's getting in so hopefully this works for you hey thanks for watching the do-it-yourself video by chas i'm finished the boat is a float and now i'm gonna float my liver see you next time you
