[Music] i know we have all been there the awful dull and boring feeling of playing the same stuff over and over again if you feel bored playing the same old stuff maybe it's time for you to try something different how about spanish guitar i know guys if you mainly play songs it can be overwhelming to jump into the spanish stuff all of a sudden so i'll make it easy for you and break down everything that you need to know about chords finger style melodies riffs and more in five simple steps now level one d chord progression [Music] now the most popular spanish chord progression is the one seven six five [Music] so if we are in the key of ae minor we play a minor g f major and then an e minor chord well not really right it doesn't really sound that spanish so we're gonna change this chord into a major chord and it sounds a lot better you can apply this rule to any other key for example e minor [Music] or c sharp minor [Music] level two the finger style technique [Music] of course we can strum these chords all day long right but we can make it even better with the finger style technique now of course one of the most simple finger picking pattern could be the thumb index middle and ring [Music] do so for example i was doing thumb index middle and ring on the fifth fourth third and second string but also on the fifth third second and first now guys i want to show you a quick fingerstyle trick that you can use to make this chord progression even more rhythmic and fun to play [Music] so i'm appreciating the chord with the thumb one two three one two three two three one two three now for each note that i play with the thumb i'm gonna also play the first string open [Music] now we're gonna do that for the other chord as well the g major [Music] the f major and the e major [Music] i'm going to speed up [Music] level three scales [Music] one thing that i love about the spanish guitar is the fact that you can play the same melodic idea on each chord for example you can play the a minor scale starting from the root note of each chord to make it sound like a spanish scale like this [Music] do [Music] so again the a minor scale is this one we have the notes a b c d e f g and a now just play five notes of this scale and for the a minor chord we're gonna start from the note a on the g major chord we're gonna start with the note g for the f major chord we're gonna start from the note f and for the e major chord we're going to start with the note e but as you remember we changed the e minor chord into an e major chord so we added this lovely g sharp to the e minor chord to make it a major chord and so when we play the a minor scale now we're going to play it with the note g sharp in it so we're not going to play the g natural we're going to play the g sharp and we call this scale the harmonic minor scale [Music] and of course you can do the same thing one octave higher [Music] of course guys nobody says that you have to play the scale like this all of the time once you have it you can then mix things up and make it even more melodic like this [Music] and we can add the base for each chord [Music] level four simple riffs [Music] the riff is a short phrase that gives a lot of character to whatever it is that you are playing now when it comes to spanish guitar we can play short simple riffs that sound quite spanish this reef is made up of just three notes the root note the third and the fifth of each chord for the a minor chord we need the note a c and e for the g major the note g the note b and note d for the f major the note f a and c and for the e major we're going to need the root note e g sharp and b now i'm playing all these notes with the thumb so that i can keep the same tone and i'm using this interesting rhythmic pattern one two three one two three one two one two three one two three one two one two three one two three one two one two three one two three one two [Music] level five advanced chords [Music] do [Music] do [Music] i know guys it's going to take a little bit of time a little bit of practice but you have so many things that you can practice right here you got chords you got melodies you got the finger style technique you got the strumming you got simple riffs and a little bit more of the you know advanced chords now i'm going to leave you to practice this lovely spanish stuff enjoy the lesson i'll talk to you soon
