but regards Manchester City there has also been talk of a city settlement um that has yet to be stood up as as a decent source is that lightly further down the line that Manchester City would try and settle in some shape or form well look it's always desirable in in any litigation to avoid a trial and to commercially get together uh with the other party either uh in formal mediation or by uh less formal negotiation and to settle your differences because everybody knows that in any uh litigation there is litigation risk you can have the strongest case around you can have the best barristers around you can have the best solicitors and all these parties um involved you know whether it be the Premier League Everton Nottingham Forest Manchester City Chelsea right now all of them they've all got preeminent cases uh there is no um inequality of arms when it comes to the actual legal spend so any of these uh cases have a lot of risk and so of course naturally it would make sense for parties to settle but you wouldn't you wouldn't think with due respect that Manchester City I I have no besides the the conspiracy theory that man city fans seems to think I I have against them I would suggest that man City's fighting fund for legal representation would be greater than that of the Premier Leagues well well theoretically City could have access to more money but the reality is the Premier League has no limit to what it spends and it spend on legal fees has gone through the roof over the last five years in terms of who represents the Premier League look at the look at the names right there's no that that they're represented by the best firms in the City Link lers uh bird and bird uh the best KC's Adam Lewis is is a regular appearer these are the the highest quality um cases and law firms there's no question that they've got excellent legal representation so I just don't but it's an interesting perspective that it was categorized that UEFA who have again significant access to funds to be able to support themselves against the onslaught of a very highly motivated and wellp paid legal team that man city have that's been perceived as almost a cottage industry now for Man City that they were outmaneuvered and outmanned by the financial resources that man city are preped prepared to deploy yeah against the reality of what the governing bodies are well I don't really buy that but you know you're entitled to that opinion I I just don't buy give given the sums involved of getting proper representation for these sorts of cases I just don't buy that it's a key defining Factor yeah both sides have got the sort of5 10 million pound maximum I would I know but I think they're wrong because they don't understand legal fees but I would subscribe to the view that often or not the person with the most money in the room is the person that tends to end up with the best outcomes not always but very often yeah but this is not David and Goliath premier league and Manchester City with due respect the Premier League is an organization that has to account to the 20 clubs has a certain amount of resource available to it whereas Manchester City have as much Resource as they want and it's been established that there is a cottage industry being run around man city of legal fees that are absolutely enormous interesting see where they might be accounted for and where they're being represented in man City's Affairs because they're directly relatable to Man City and I don't know if appear in their accounts we'll talk about it perhaps a different time I would suggest to you that man city do have highly motivated financial resources that would supersede that of the Premier League so they would be in a better position economically well you know get we'll we'll differ on the difference that it makes you know as I say to you the firms are involved for the premier league and this doesn't apply to City this applies to all of the teams that that the premier league has been up against in fact if you were to go in and look at the Everton and the Nottingham Forest complaints part of their complaint is effectively that the legal representation has been too aggressive has pursued them too much aru too strong what you're talking about is two different things you're talking about arguing about noing a for breaching Financial fair play you're talking about the reputational damage of a football club being accused of fraud there's a whole different set of Dynamics the football clubs that are defending themselves against accountancy arguments is not the same principle to some extent what man city are being accused of Man City are being accused of cooking the books bucking the system and pretty much fraud which is a whole different landscape whole different Dynamic a whole different reputational value to Man City CU if they get found guilty of it Stefan not only do they underpin one of their main reasons for being in sport which is reputational enhancement you've now got a nation state in the dot for owning a football club and effectively fraudulently doing it through the for the football system of course we we talked about we've talked about that before but of course the two sides of that are when you go around making those allegations as the Premier League have done you make sure Anda you make sure that you're well resourced you make sure that you get your house in order in terms of making those allegations and you make sure you're well resourced on the legal representation side and that's the reality bringing those charges they've G Gast allegations St they've the charges chares of course but the preparation and the work now towards the independent commission will be done with a huge investment from both the Premier League side and the Manchester City Side by my position no the question you ask is settlement I've always maintained that there will be a settlement not because I want one but because it's a less of two evils because everybody's an invidious position in the Premier League are damned if they do damned if they don't if they bring this action as successful against Man City they've just discredited their they just discredited their own Premier League if they don't they're considered to be Unix the issue that they've got is that uh for for either party but particularly for the Premier League to reverse out at this stage there was a time I wrote a piece in the in the mail mail on Sunday which really urged urged the uh the parties to find a way to settle what was going to be a very difficult situation to unwind uh I think they've missed that window now and I think it's very hard for the Premier League to unwind it maybe in the interest of the Premier League to take it to the independent commission and lose because actually try and unwind it at this stage is going to be very very difficult for the board of the Premier League and the motivation for men city of course given their unequivocal innocence they wouldn't really want a settlement would they what we do know isal people is that for a fact Nati and Forest unsuccessful in their appeal against a four-point deduction there's John A nauy and Forest fan and the fans I feel sorry for an all of this so to be honest Stefan the timing of the na and Forest appeal outcomes purposely done to manufactur a more exciting end of the season relegation finale of that there's no doubt the stinks of corruption says John the fans are stuck in the middle of all this aren yeah there's quite a lot of doubt and there is no Corruption of course Stefan always good to have you on board Stephan Bon with us live this lunchtime Jim White and Simon Jordan Monday to Friday mornings from 10 on am on da via the talk sport app and
