'LL SEND IT OVER TO YOU. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU SO MUCH, TAMARA. WELL, AS WE CONTINUE OUR STORM COVERAGE, SKI RESORTS HAVE BEEN KEEPING A CLOSE EYE ON CONDITIONS. WE'RE JOINED RIGHT NOW BY JOHN RICE, GENERAL MANAGER AT SIERRA AT TAHOE. SO WHEN YOU HEAR ABOUT THESE STORMS COMING IN, I MEAN, YOU PROBABLY GET EXCITED BECAUSE SNOW IS A GOOD THING FOR A SKI RESORT. OR DOES THIS CAUSE YOU ANY CONCERN THESE, YOU KNOW, THREE DAYS IN A ROW HERE? WELL, YES, IT'S LIFE. SAFETY OF OUR GUESTS AND EMPLOYEES IS NUMBER ONE. SO OBVIOUSLY OUR MESSAGING RIGHT NOW INTERNALLY IS TO MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE ARE PREPARED. KNOW BEFORE YOU GO, UH, ALL THE THINGS THAT I THAT YOU GUYS ARE TELLING PEOPLE ABOUT BEING PREPARED IN YOUR CAR, HAVING A I'M TELLING EMPLOYEES THAT ARE UP HERE THAT ARE WORKING ON KNOCKING THE SNOW DOWN TO BRING A SLEEPING BAG BECAUSE YOU JUST DON'T KNOW IF THE ROADS ARE GOING TO CLOSE. AND HAVE SNACKS IN YOUR CAR. BUT IF YOU DON'T NEED TO BE DRIVING RIGHT NOW UNTIL MOTHER NATURE'S DONE HERE, WE'LL, UH. THAT'S PROBABLY THE BEST ADVICE. SO AS OF TODAY, ARE YOU GUYS OPEN RIGHT NOW OR HAVE YOU DECIDED TO CLOSE FOR TODAY? SO OUR PLAN IS TO OPEN TODAY. UH, IT'S WEATHER DEPENDENT. WIND DEPENDENT? MORE THAN ANYTHING THAT AFFECTS THE LIFTS. OBVIOUSLY, THE SNOW WILL AFFECT VISIBILITY AND, YOU KNOW, THAT CAN BE AN ISSUE THAT COULD STOP YOU FROM OPERATING ROAD CONDITIONS. COULD BE ANOTHER PIECE. BUT OUR PLAN IS TO OPEN TODAY. WE DID CALL TOMORROW IN ANTICIPATION OF THE BLIZZARD FORECAST, BUT I HAVE SEVERAL SOURCES I GET MY WEATHER FROM AND, UH, THEY'RE ALL SAYING THE SAME THING THAT IT'S GOING TO BE A WHITEOUT. IT'S GOING TO BE, UH, YOU KNOW, MOTHER NATURE IS GOING TO BE IN CHARGE TOMORROW. SO WE'RE GOING TO TAKE A PAUSE TOMORROW AND JUST KEEP OUR ROADS OPEN AND THEN TAKE A LOOK SATURDAY MORNING AND HOPEFULLY, UH, WE COULD TRY SOMETHING THERE. AND IF NOT, ROLL INTO SUNDAY. SO. ALL RIGHT. SO OPEN TODAY. UH, TOMORROW CLOSED. AND YOU'RE, YOU'LL SEE ABOUT SATURDAY. THAT'S WE'RE GOING TO PLAY IT DAY BY DAY AS THIS STORM COMES IN. IT'S, UH, WE'VE SEEN SOME BIG ONES, BUT THIS ONE'S GOT RIGHT. WELL, YEAH. TALKING ABOUT THAT, AS OF TODAY, YOU GUYS HAVE JUST SHY OF ABOUT 200IN FOR THE SEASON. TAMARA GAVE ME THAT NUMBER AT THE SUMMIT. HOW WILL THIS STORM DO YOU GUYS EXPECT? YOU GET A BUNCH OF WEATHER SOURCES. WHAT ARE THEY TELLING YOU? WELL, ON THE LOW END, THEY'RE SAYING TWO FEET AND THE HIGH END, THEY'RE SAYING 12. SO, UH, I'LL GO IN THE MIDDLE. I'LL TAKE SIX FEET. HOW'S THAT? I THINK THAT WORKS. THAT WORKS. UM, LAST YEAR, A RECORD BREAKING SEASON FOR SNOW, FOR ALL SKI RESORTS UP IN TAHOE. AND YOU GUYS TOO, UH, COULD THIS STORM, DO YOU THINK, PUSH YOU CLOSE TO ANYTHING LIKE THAT? WELL, NOT NECESSARILY THE AMOUNT OF VOLUME OF SNOW THAT CAME ALL YEAR. AS YOU KNOW, UH, IT'S BEEN A LITTLE STINGY THIS YEAR IN TERMS OF THE WHITE STUFF, BUT IT CERTAINLY KICKED ON SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON. WE'RE EXPECTING A BIG SPRING. IT'S GOING TO BE GREAT FOR SNOW STORAGE, FOR WATER, FOR OUR STATE. AND, UH, WE JUST HAVE TO GET THROUGH THE NEXT FEW DAYS. BUT IF WE DO GET 80, 90IN LIKE THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT, UH, THAT'LL BE A SUBSTANTIAL BOOST TO SPRING SKIING. WELL, WE ALL MADE IT THROUGH THE MOST UNEVENTFUL NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER, I THINK. I REMEMBER IN A WHILE, CERTAINLY MAKING UP FOR IT NOW. HEY, THANK YOU SO MUCH. YOU BE SAFE. TELL YOUR CREW TO BE SAFE
