Should Biden's Cognitive Limitations Cost Him the Nomination? | Analysis of Presidential Debate

hello this is Dr Grande today's question is can I analyze the June 2024 presidential election debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump just a reminder I'm not diagnosing anybody in this video only in the description for this video first I'll look at the background of this case then move to my analysis on June 27 2024 President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump participated in a debate in Atlanta Georgia Joe Biden is the presumptive Democratic party Presidential nominee for the 2024 election Donald Trump is in the same position with the Republicans a lot of negotiating took place before this debate with Biden's team primarily dictating the rules the candidates would have to follow one unusual element of this debate is how the microphones were turned off when a candidate was not supposed to be talking presumably this feature was included due to Trump's past Behavior the debate was 90 minutes long moderated by two journalists and did not include factchecking there were several debate topics including the economy foreign policy the January 6 riots and the fitness of the candidates Biden and Trump insulted each other lied at times and failed to directly answer some of the questions Trump spoke for a total of about 40 minutes and Biden for 35 minutes for the most part the arguments that were made sounded familiar each candidate tried to exploit perceived vulnerabilities in their opponent for example Biden mentioned how Trump was a convicted felin and Trump brought up Biden's embarrassing and mishandled withdrawal from Afghanistan despite the Lively exchange of words it was the appearance of the candidates which has attracted attention Trump had a lot of energy and state on the attack Biden appeared to struggle with speaking it would appear as though most people believe Trump won the debate and some Democrats are questioning the wisdom of having Biden as the Presidential nominee now moving to my analysis let's take a look at the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate in this debate first I will look at these strengths starting with Donald Trump throughout the debate Trump mostly stayed on the offensive despite this he wasn't as obnoxious bombastic and overbearing as usual I thought Trump would try to interrupt talk over his time and make more facial expressions indicating his disgust with Biden most of the time when Biden was talking Trump had a look on his face as if he was just listening or thinking about what was being said Trump spent more time talking than Biden and regularly pointed out Biden's shortcomings he was also able to take advantage of his opponent's speaking difficulties after one particularly incoherent answer by Biden Trump responded I really don't know what he just said many viewers felt the same way Trump's reaction was consistent with their experience and felt genuine Trump did well in pointing out how Biden was wasting taxpayer money and how inflation was out of control he deflected some of Biden's attack about the felony convictions by painting them as political Revenge he accused Biden of being unable to win fair and square which is curious considering how Trump still claim s the election was stolen it's almost like Trump successfully dragged Biden down to his level in that moment now moving to the strengths of Joe Biden I thought Biden did well illustrating a few of his policy positions particularly toward the end of the debate his performance definitely improved as the debate continued Biden attacked Trump on several points like the January 6 riots and the war in Ukraine he said that Trump had no sense of American democracy and touched on the C denial Biden indicated that something snapped in Trump when he lost the election the way Biden delivered this line was almost as if he felt sorry for trump it was a moment of compassion as much as condemnation I thought this was Biden's strongest moment it made him seem like a human being who was genuinely trying to understand his opponent unfortunately for Biden it came near the end of the debate I will now look at the weaknesses starting with Donald Trump on several occasions Trump was grandiose and self-promoting even though he wasn't as bad as usual in this regard Trump made many false claims throughout the course of the debate here are just a few examples he said the only jobs Biden created were for illegal immigrants he inflated the actual number of illegal immigrants by over 10 million Trump claimed that millions of immigrants came from prisons and mental institutions and he lied about granting the largest tax cut in history Trump used quite a bit of time to answer previous questions which made him seem Petty and defensive he also did not directly answer all the questions so he appeared evasive for example he was reluctant to give a direct answer on the issue of whether he would accept the results of the next election now moving to the weaknesses of Joe Biden throughout the debate and especially in the beginning Joe appeared to have trouble communicating his energy was low he was not forceful or commanding his voice was weak as raspy he halted his speech at times he lost his train of thought went on tangents meandered through some of his responses and was incoherent a few times some of the time when Trump was talking Biden had a stunned and Confused look on his face it was almost like the experience was overwhelming him perhaps due to his apparent cognitive difficulties Biden missed many opportunities to effectively counter false claims that were being made Trump was virtually unopposed in the debate at times Biden referred to Trump using names like loser Trump has been criticized for calling opponents names it doesn't sound any better when Biden does it Biden should maintain his own style and not try to imitate Trump he needed to do a better job of distinguishing himself from Trump and take The High Ground even though Biden didn't lie as much as Trump he was deceptive a few times during the debate for example he lied about the number of new manufacturing jobs how many people were illegally crossing the border and falsely claimed that exceedingly wealthy people only pay 88.2% in taxes the top 1% of taxpayers pay about 26% when considering the performances of both candidates who do I think was victorious in my opinion Donald Trump was the winner of this debate this was really about performance expectations Trump did not perform as expected in the sense that he was mostly composed this made him look a lot better than usual Biden did perform as expected he had difficulty communicating this confirmed what many people suspected there have been concerns about Biden's cognitive abilities for a while I have made four videos on the topic the first one was released in 2020 the format of the debate really played to Trump's strengths and exposed Biden's weaknesses for example no pre-written notes were permitted and there was no no factchecking these rules strongly weighed in Trump's favor the split screen video presentation captured Trump in a calm State and Biden in a confused State Biden was losing points even when he was not talking moving to my next question what do I think happen in this debate this is just a theory my opinion Trump has adapted his tactics Lately by limiting behavior that makes him appear arrogant and aggressive he knew that some viewers didn't like that from prior debates so he changed it this modification was not complete but it was enough to make him look more presidential Biden has had difficulty with his cognitive reasoning abilities his staff has been able to manage his engagements to conceal some of this but there was nowhere to hide during the debate Biden had to perform for 90 minutes he managed not to wander off the stage and he did remain awake and standing but those are not really considered massive accomplishments for most presid presidential candidates I think this debate has a decent chance of altering the course of history there are a few ways it could change things Trump may have an easier time criticizing Biden by focusing on the cognitive limitations some people might be hesitant to vote for Biden fearful that he will not be able to function they look at his performance as unacceptable now and know that he will not improve over the next several years and of course Biden could be replaced by his party moving to my last question should the Democratic party run a different candidate for president in my opinion yes mostly because of the winning part for a long time now many Democrats have been talking about how Republican politicians are too loyal to Donald Trump they just can't seem to give up on Trump as a candidate why don't they select another candidate who is less controversial the Republicans are letting Donald Trump undermine their chances of Victory these Democrats make a compelling argument but now I think they need to ask themselves the same question about Joe Biden what is it about him that is so special Why not pick a better candidate many view him as good-hearted and well-intentioned but what they really need now is for him to be coherent through no fault of his own this is one gift that Joe Biden simply cannot bestow upon his party if people put their politics aside for a moment it's easy to view Biden as admirable for staying in the fight there's usually nothing wrong with that but at this point he's hurting his party perhaps in the next presidential election the political party that realizes that it's okay to drop a controversial candidate will be victorious those are my thoughts on the Trump Biden debate please put any opinions and thoughts in the comment section they consistently generate an
