your finances are in the grave your marriage is in the grave your thought life is in the grave your grades are in the great come on your family looks like it's in the great friday saturday it looks like it's over but the problem is god can do all things but fail so at some point in time resurrection is coming for the child of god [Music] you got religion [Music] freedom is in the room healing is building yeah i am well my name is earl this is my better two-thirds the finest woman i've ever met in my entire life onika mcclellan had jesus not died on the cross i would not be married to this fine piece of dark chocolate next to me right here so god has been good to me you're hilarious oh i love you so much honey do you feel you like you look good because you do okay you do you do you do you are absolutely amazing and she's more beautiful on the inside than on the outside which is absolutely phenomenal but every one of you you need to know that we pray for you tonight we pray that god would meet you exactly where you are if you are on your phone right now or if you're on your laptop or you're in a living room with friends or at our white rock campus wherever you are you need to know we prayed that god would meet with you this evening that i mean exactly where you are whatever needs you have in your life whatever stage of life you are in that god would meet you so if you're a college student you need to know we love you so much any college students can i hear from any college student tonight yes indeed how about high school is any folks in high school junior high any high school junior highers yes indeed how about any single people any single people here all right married people any married folks any married folks [Music] so no matter where you are i mean older younger married single college high school you got school loan debt or no debt at all wherever you are if you know who sally may is and you or you don't know who sally made that's right i pray you never know high schoolers stay away from sallie mae she is not your friend and she'll find you no matter where you live in the world she will find she'll find you but no matter change her number two so then you don't recognize it and then you accidentally pick up i i can't release it's getting too personal that's getting too personal honey that's getting too personal you need to know you need to know that no matter where you are on the journey uh maybe you are a person of faith and you've been following christ for years god wants to meet you tonight or maybe you're brand new and you're like man i'm still trying to figure things out i i can't even follow the words on the screen and people have their hands raised and all of this stuff is so new to me you just need to know that god wants to meet you exactly where you are as well it does not matter how much of the bible you know or don't know you need to know that god knows you that's right that you need to know and i just want to encourage you to open up your heart tonight we're going to sing a number of songs we're going to celebrate communion tonight uh as well so those of us who are at home make sure you grab some bread and some juice or some wine i i guess you can maybe do coca-cola it just represents something else whatever liquid you have there because we're going to celebrate communion and talk about a little bit later what that means and why we do this and what good friday is all about uh but we're gonna go through a number of songs tonight some of them you'll know some of them you you may not know i'm gonna pray together tonight pray for miracles to happen in your life and in your family but it's just tonight this this night of worship is for us to take our hearts and focus them in on christ honey what do you think folks can expect out of this evening well something that works for me is when life is not working i worship when life is working i worship when i'm believing for a breakthrough i worship when i'm discouraged and it feels like nothing is going right i worship being here tonight is showing whether you're online or in the room that you're desperate for a move of god you're tired of the same old same old you want a fresh outpouring of god to invade your situation in life i came hungry i came expected i came ready for god to invade my life and so we just want to help you to feel comfortable in this atmosphere because this is an atmosphere of miracles and so we're not done yet we're just getting started so just take a deep breath relax your shoulders a little bit and let's get ready to meet wherever here is he's with you he's so for you his presence and his power he wants to wrap his arms around you he wants to heal you tonight the things you haven't told people about he wants to he wants to manage and deal with those things that are going on in your heart the anxiety and the utter frustration that some of us are feeling he wants to deal with that the anger the resentment the bitterness that some of us are dealing with he wants to deal with that and tonight you're not going to leave this place chained you're not going to leave this place burdened you're not going to leave this moment the same way you came in god is going to meet you so father as our eyes are closed it's just so that we can focus we say god have your way god have your way holy spirit fill every room go through every camera work through every instrument every singer every bit of technology god we ask in the name of jesus christ that you would have your way we pray that we would get out of the way tonight and god we would allow you just to fill us up with your presence and with your power i thank you for change being on the floor after we are done here tonight i think of that shackles that have held us maybe even in our families for generations i thank you that those things are falling off tonight in the name of jesus christ god every spirit of poverty that has tried to attack people's lives and people's families and people's bank accounts and people's thought lives i pray in the name of jesus that you would break that tonight i pray father god that the spirit of depression and suicide and anxiety would be broken off of people tonight in the name of jesus we pray that you lord god would go deep into the inner recesses of our soul and you would make us into who you called us to be father make things fall off of us tonight things that you never designed for us to carry we pray that those things would fall off this evening in the name of jesus we tell every demonic stronghold we speak to every bit of darkness and we thank you god that we are your sons and your daughters and he and she whom the son has set free is free indeed tonight we declare that we speak that and everything that's not like you must bow its knee at the mighty name of jesus christ we will not be chained we will not be shackled we will not be birded we will not be hindered one day longer god it's a promise okay it's a promise actually for your life [Music] uh there's a story in mark uh chapter oh i think it's might be two or three and jesus is in the temple and there's a man there that has a shriveled hand and the religious leaders are bothered by jesus for many a reason but but in this moment this man with a chival hand jesus is about to heal him but he says to the man i need you to stretch out your hand i need you to stretch out your hand there are many things that god has already done for us and and tonight dare i say he is saying son daughter are you willing to stretch out your hand and say hey i actually want to receive what you have for me he has come incredibly far and tonight he is asking you to take that step of faith or earl what if it doesn't work or what if it what if i'm disappointed again hey friends just leave all that up to god what i need you to do is to be one of those sons and daughters that's on like the 10th step and daddy's down at the bottom and just like they jump even before dad's ready it just kind of my daughter does this all the time i'm like oh my gosh she just she's in the air and i have to catch her she has so much faith in my ability to catch her that she's not even thinking through should i or should i not do this and i know we have been disappointed on many of occasions i know people online they've been disappointed on many occasions you're like i don't know if i can jump again i'm just telling you it is time for you to jump it is time for you to stretch out your hand once again so i'm gonna i'm gonna pray i'm gonna ask uh crystal to pray for victory i'm gonna i'm gonna ask her to pray for victory to happen in every single area of our lives mentally emotionally financially spiritually in every single area i am praying that victory comes into every one of our lives so if you don't you don't have to do this but you can put your hands in a posture like this it doesn't it's not nothing magical it's just kind of putting your whole heart your whole body in a position to say god i want what you have for me so go ahead crystal come pray for us yes i want you to envision what you need victory over what you need to break through heavenly father we come into your throne room knowing that you are in our midst knowing that you are here and that you are right now god and we take our shriveled hands and we give it over to the king of kings and lord of lords because we know that friday you were in the grave saturday you were in the grave friday you're in the grave our finances were in the grave our marriages were in the grave our identity was in the grave but oh we know that sunday was coming and sunday is here so we stretch out our hand god and we say that we have the size of the mustard seed kind of faith that tonight we're giving it over to you god so i proclaim victory over every household i parachute victory over every barren woman believing for a child i believe victor over the debt that is holding you back i'm believing victory for the insecurities that creep off in the middle of the night i bring victory for you to get your fight back i'm playing victory for your spirit to arise god we know that you are in our midst and we're not leaving tonight we're not giving up the wrestle till we leave in victory oh cause we're not fighting for it we're fighting from it god so would your spirit fill this place in indonesia would your spirit feel this place in guatemala when your spirit feel displaced every person under the sound of my voice victory is yours victory is yours victory is yours friday the day that our savior got up on a cross for me and for you uh again if this environment is new for you i just want you to know above everything you're loved you need to know that you're loved okay that's what i just want you to get that piece of it if you're like i don't know the songs and these people are really excited i just want you to get that you're very very loved matter of fact tell the person next you say you're loved you're loved tell them just tell them they may they may not have heard it all week this might be the first time tell your second choice tell them you're loved you're loved you're loved let them know they're loved mark chapter 15. verses 33 and 34 mark 15 33 and 34. says at noon darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon and at three in the afternoon jesus cried out in a loud voice than i hopefully i'm saying that right which means my god my god why have you forsaken me one of the reasons you can trust scripture is there are all these details in it that some would say are unimportant there's lots of little little notes in the bible that let you know that this is not stuff that people were just kind of making up that people were there and they are or they they were hearing it from a first-hand account and they were jotting down interesting details in mark chapter 15 there's a number of very very interesting details one of them is there's a man from northern africa who was who helped carry the cross of jesus and we also get another detail like at nine o'clock in the morning is when jesus christ was crucified we get another detail here in these verses that that at noon all the way to three o'clock darkness was over the whole land it's springtime at the time of the passover this is a time where birds are chirping and the weather is nice but when christ is on this cross for these three hours it's as if the heavens themselves are heavy with the weight of the son of god dying for my sins and yours the earth is participating in this moment of this innocent man giving his life for me and for you so from 12 to three there's darkness i have been uh trying to shake the emotions of this but but i haven't been able to shake them i haven't been able to shake the emotions of like like feeling what was it like there you know those crazy thunderstorms right when it's really sunny then all of a sudden like kind of goes dark you're like okay is everybody about to die you know this happens in texas all the time like oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh and you're wondering is the tornado sirens are going off and and people are running to the store and your neighbors are you know shuffling to their houses into their apartment and it's a little bit eerie in the air it just it just feels like the air almost got sucked out of the air this is what's happening in this moment from 12 to 3 when our savior is up on this cross the heavens go dark and jesus says these words my god my god why'd you leave me now not now oh no not now don't leave me now if you haven't lived any life yet then you don't know what this feels like but if you live enough life or your parents argued enough in front of you you've had enough friends stab you in the back or you've been disappointed enough by individuals that you looked up to or you are used to having money in your account and then it's incredibly negative for longer than it's supposed to be negative and you have those moments of like god why'd you leave me not now not now my god my god why have you forsaken me if you're trying to paint a picture of a revolutionary leader just so you know these are not the words that you can be quoting that he says these are like weak words these are words like toughen up hey pull yourself up don't show any weakness be strong these are the images even of manhood that we paint in our society like there's there's no we don't feel anything but even the toughest man knows you feel something have a kid come into your life and you love that little boy that little girl i don't care how tough you are let something happen to your baby you do those manly tears but them tears are coming you can try to suck it up in there as much as you want to like flintlock wood who who knew that who knew that that was for the teenagers that was that was claudia with a chance of meatball reference parker that was for you that was for my son right there it's my 16 year old yes suck in those tears but here here is jesus and the bible's like no i'm gonna tell you everything he's naked on this cross from 12 to 3 it's dark and he says my god my god why have you forsaken me do you know that jesus is not the first one to say these words he's actually quoting someone who said these words about a thousand years earlier now you're familiar with psalm 23 probably and if you're not that's okay but but let me let me refresh your memory those of you might like i don't even know church i don't know bible stuff but you've probably seen somewhere or heard somebody say the lord is my shepherd i shall not want he makes me lie down in green pastures he leads me beside still waters he quiets my soul you know that psalm that's psalm 23 but in psalm 22 there's something else that's going on go with me here psalm 22. psalm 22 we're going to start right here in verse 1. it says my god my god why have you forsaken me why are you so far from saving me so far from my cries of anguish my god i cry out by day but but you do not answer by night but i find no rest this psalm 22 we're going to look at it for just a second here because it has such profound prophetic undertones and overtones and mid-tones all the way throughout it that we have to look at it on this good friday here is in psalm 22 and people say david wrote it we're not totally sure but it's attributed to david here david writes it a thousand years before jesus ever shows up and jesus a thousand years later is quoting this psalm and you're about to see with almost pinpoint accuracy the the prophetic words of this psalm that it is like it's like david or the writer got a picture of something that was going to come years down the road yes the writer was walking through some things but it's as if the writer stepped outside of themself and began to pen some words that they did not even know they were probably pending the words to the the very savior of the world would be quoting them on the day that he died and there is a rhythm in this psalm it's a it's a psalm where just like a song has like a verse and a chorus and a verse and a chorus and a bridge this psalm has like these moments of concern and then moments of confidence and moments of concern and their moments of confidence does it sound like your life moments of concern moments of confidence god you're great god you're great god where the heck are you where the heck are you god you're so for me god you've forgotten me i'm blessed i'm highly favored god don't like me he can't stand me and the psalm you have similar rhythms okay i just i just read verses one and two let me read verses three uh three three and five here it says yet here's the confidence part you just heard the cry part now here's a confidence part yet you are enthroned as the holy one you are the one israel praises and you our ancestors put their trust they trusted and you delivered them to you they cried out and were saved in you they trusted and were not put to shame yes confidence verse number six but i'm a worm this is not bipolar this is our life right here this is this is not a mental disorder this is this is reality for most of us god thank you so much for this house but what in the world why did you give me this man to live with what in the world is going on don't elbow anybody but i am a worm not a man scorned by everyone despised by the people all who see me mock me they hurl insults shaking their heads he trusts in the lord they say let the lord rescue him let him deliver him since he delights in him what you need to do later on is go back and read to the gospels in matthew mark luke and john and you'll see that the religious leaders and many were saying these very things to jesus when he was up on the cross he cries out to elijah let elijah save them they're hurling insults adam but go with go with me to verse number 12. go with me down to verse number 12. many bulls surround me strong bulls of west texas encircle me roaring lions that tear their prey open their mouths wide against me i'm poured out like water and all my bones are out of joint my heart has turned to wax it has melted within me my mouth is dried up like a pot's hurt and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth you lay me in the dust of death dogs surround me a pack of villains encircle me they pierce my hands and my feet all my bones are on display people stare and gloat over me they divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment all of these things we see fulfilled in jesus a thousand years later so i was trying to i was trying to put myself there i was trying to put myself at after nine o'clock in the morning i was trying to put myself at the 10 o'clock in the morning i was trying to put myself at the noon when it goes dark i was trying to put myself at the one o'clock i was trying to put myself at the two o'clock i was trying to put myself around three o'clock is when we think jesus breathed his last breath these six hours that he spent on the cross did what you and i could never pay for in an eternity in hell jesus in six hours covered the price of my sin and your sin in six hours but it was six hours of hell it was six hours of him feeling separated from his father it was six hours of him taking our shame and our sin and our guilt and our condemnation and our unrighteousness it was six hours of him taking all of that and putting it on himself and because he did that because he died you and i actually get to live this is the beauty and the power of good friday i'm trying to put myself there i'm trying to put you there oh my beautiful wife and i um oh no i i got that picture on the screen right i got that picture on the screen uh show that picture my wife and i uh this is this is me and me and my wife hey hey look at that stash it's not coming back though it's not coming back it's not coming back that stash right there uh somebody shouted you look the same my wife definitely does that she has not aged at all we've been married going on 24 years she has not aged at all i i don't know how it's possible other than black don't crack oh but we we're 24 years ago sometimes sometimes we uh our kids are asking so on our anniversary we'll talk about okay what were we doing at like eight in the morning oh what we do cause we got married at 11 a.m because we don't have to feed everybody because we had that budget you know what i'm talking about okay some of y'all don't know what i'm talking about and your parents totally paid for everything god bless you and my mom hooked me up with she hooked me up with a stack that day i remember that she took some money out and gave me that stack but you know that wedding we paid for it and we was at 11 o'clock and we gave everybody biscuits and crumpets and sent them on their way all right ain't nothing wrong with that at all weddings still worked okay you don't have to have some crazy wedding you don't have to go into debt for your wedding that was free so you just are asking what we're doing at this time what we're doing at that time we got married at 11 a.m right honey 11 8 11 a.m and it was not a long ceremony at all i mean we were out of there in 30 minutes i would imagine so maybe this picture was taken on may 10th uh we got a lot of things to make we got a lot of things i got a birthday in may got mother's day in may and i got uh now we got our daughter's birthday in may i mean we got a lot of stuff in may so i can get dates on next up may 10 uh 1997. here we are about 11 33. this is what we this is what we were doing so i'm reading through mark i'm just like man what was jesus doing this is this is a friday night right now in in dallas and i'm not sure if you're in california or you're in central america or wherever you may be uh but but when you when you uh push yourself into the middle east time actually it's already saturday jesus is dead right now uh 2 000 years ago he he's dead so we're we're a little bit behind where they would be in the middle east but i'm just been trying to feel where where where is he what was he doing what was what was happening i don't want this book here just to be a book from like way back in the day i want it to be a book that's alive to me right now so so i've been trying to put myself there and the reality is i was there and so were you because my sins were there and your sins were there on that day so this is not a history lesson as much as it is also our lesson as well this is our story that you and i were there at that moment when jesus was dying not physically but on his mind was the glory of god and the sin of all of humanity so i was there and you were there and all the sin of the world was placed upon him in that moment some of you are are artists and you you may have heard of a guy named rembrandt and he did this piece of art called the raising of the cross i i have the picture for you now this is obviously his depiction and we know there's a lot of historical inaccuracies in this picture okay we all recognize that right this is not exactly what jesus looked like and that's not what jesus was wearing but neither was there neither was there a man in a blue hat you know there there's no blue hat there's no blue hat but you know in this this painting that's actually rembrandt the artist painted himself into the moment to symbolize i was there i i just thought it appropriate for you and i not to disconnect our hearts from what our savior did and think it just happened all those years ago and i'll go to church this weekend and it won't impact the way i live my life no put yourself in a little blue hat if you need to but your behind is right there next to that cross your sin and my sin is what put him on that cross and there were a host of different characters around the cross okay there were a ton of different people you had thieves on the cross and you had religious leaders and you had the soldiers and you had his mother there that's watching him die i cannot even imagine the emotions that she's walking through there are friends there at the cross and if i'm honest there are times i have felt like i'm any one of those given characters depending on the time of day or the place i am in my life at times i have felt like one of the thieves like god just remember me when you come into your kingdom i deserve to be here but just remember me when you come into your kingdom and there are times that i felt like i'm a friend and jesus turned to me saying hey there's your mother take care of her and i felt like i've i've been strong and i've been able to stand and be the type of man that god would want me to be then there are times i felt like i was the one that was a soldier that was sticking the spear into his side in my in my ignorance and in my shame and in my condemnation i have felt like i have been all the characters and still he says to his father forgive them don't know what they're doing and dare i say he's speaking to our world again father forgive them don't even know what they're doing this is why we celebrate communion matter of fact right now i want i want to i want to celebrate communion together i want you to grab your elements in antigua and guatemala city i want you to grab your community elements in dallas wherever you want you to grab your communal elements right now grab them out grab them if you're at home somewhere go grab a piece of bread get some juice i want you to grab it this is important here friends this is important let me let me go let me go with us to mark chapter 14. i'm so glad we are all doing this together all over the world in this moment english speakers and spanish speakers and all of us together celebrating celebrating this moment mark chapter 14 verses 22 through 24 while they were eating jesus took bread and when he had given thanks he broke it and he gave it to his disciples saying take it this is my body then he took the cup and when he had given thanks he he gave it to them and they all drank from it this is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for many he said to them now as you grab your communal elements and hopefully one of the ushers gave it to you as you came in or again if you're at home you grabbed it you need to understand that this moment right here is a celebration it's called it's called the passover this is a jewish celebration jesus was a jewish man and there would be so many jews that would be coming into jerusalem at this time and they'd all be having this supper together as a matter of fact jews still celebrate this passover there's a meal that happens and there's all this symbolism that takes place at the meal what they're celebrating they're celebrating that god in his grace and in his power he took them out of bondage in egypt and he gave them a brand a powerful covenant saying hey you're my people you're my kids i'm taking you to the promised land you don't have to be bound you don't have to live in those shackles any longer matter of fact there's so many cool things i don't have time to get into all of it but one of the reasons they have so much bread at the passover is because when the children of israel when god's kids were being released out of egypt they had to leave fast they had to leave fast i mean they leave so fast so fast so fast that's why the bread is unleavened bread unleavened meat that you don't put anything in it to make it rise because those of you ever made bread you know it takes some time for the bread to to rise but because they had to leave so quick they had to grab what they could make this bread real quick and get out dare i say this is going to be free dare i say some of y'all have been playing in some places you should not be playing and god has opened up a door for you to get out of something you're supposed to be getting out and you're waiting for some stuff to rise and god's like no that needs to be unleavened you need to leave and get out of that relationship you need to leave and get out of that toxicity to leave and get out of that place right now stop playing with it leap they left quick oh no i got i got to go get no grab your stuff grab no you don't need it you don't need it you don't need to get let's go let's go let's go let's go for 400 years they were in bondage they had been praying mothers and fathers and grandfathers for years have been praying for people to come out of this bondage and god heard their cry sent them a deliverer and why are they gonna be playing like oh i'm gonna take my sweet time let me just keep on living in the sin let me keep on living in this bondage no he already brought a deliverer for you leave that place of bondage and get to the place of freedom so they get up and they go is what the bread represents it's unleavened so jesus is here he's breaking the bread then he gives it new meaning fuller meaning dare i say saying all those times your grandfathers and your great-grandfathers and your grandmothers and your great-grandmothers were breaking bread it was all pointing to me that my body would be broken for you all the times you took this cup and you drank from it it wasn't just about what happened back then it was all a picture of what i was gonna do for you this is my blood that has been poured out for you it's all a symbol it all helps us remember i got a picture of my grandfather he's in heaven now can you zoom in on this it's the best picture okay best picture he and my grandmother were married i mean how many years honey 65 years or something like that when by the time he went to go be with jesus he died a few years ago this is black jesus by the way uh in this hold on my grandma taking my grandfather home thank you jesus got your rembrandt here here is another jesus right here and uh and it's all it's all bent up somebody my house threw this away i found it in the trash i was like yo this is my grandfather i know it was one of my kids and i think i know which one it was but they'll find out they'll find out when nobody pays for that college so uh you better get a scholarship so we i have this picture helps me remember it's little but but i like it it reminds me oh you can stay married for decades upon decades my grandparents were in the same church for 55 years planted just serving and loving people my grandparents brought in foster kids and had so much adoption in their family i mean they just were they weren't perfect you know they were cussed there's no doubt about them my grandfather grandma cuss a little bit but they love jesus right so i'm just like it just helps you remember this bread and this juice it helps us remember but if you don't know what you're remembering if you don't think you were there if you don't think it was for your sin this is an empty ritual that has no meaning no depth and no transformation will come but if you can see yourself there if you can see that in this broken body and this poured out blood that jesus dealt with both shame and selfishness all in one blow the shame that says i'm not worthy but that that selfishness that that just kind of announces to the world you're not worthy of me he deals with both of those things in one fell swoop i'm going to ask you here in antigua online wherever you are take that piece of bread out i want you to hold it in your hand because i'm going to bless this bread and by blessing i'm gonna pray just a prayer and i'm gonna pray over this juice as well and what what i'm praying is i'm praying that we would remember and that today no matter where you are this would be a moment of new life some of you might not have been followers of jesus right now this can be your moment to say jesus i was there so i received the forgiveness that you were distributing there can i give you my heart and my life so lord over this bread over this juice i pray that to our faith this would be the very body of our lord and savior jesus christ broken for us and this juice would be the very blood of jesus christ poured out for the forgiveness of our sins and may we live lives for your glory in jesus name i'm gonna invite the worship team uh back up here i'm gonna sing a song together and i'm actually going to allow you as this song is playing if you want to stay seated for a minute you totally can you can stand up when you'd like to but i'm going to ask you just to just to make sure you pause for a moment contemplate ponder pray think experience what jesus christ did for every single one of us and then when the time is just right dirt sometime during the song you're going to eat this bread and you drink this cup and you remember what christ has done for every single one of us i love you so much family and i'm praying that the grace of almighty god would fill your heart in ways you never even thought possible and
