hey guys backyard scientist here and today I am here with my friend Graham and he has his own YouTube channel it is photogenic underscore firearm and it is on Instagram channel or he's more popular than me on Instagram today we're gonna be trying what happens when you shoot a sodium slug out of a shotgun because you've seen what I did sodium slugs and a bullet in an old video I filled bullets with sodium and potassium metal now sodium and potassium react with water to explode so I thought what if we put them in a bullet and shot him out of watermelon the results were pretty spectacular but I thought what if we went bigger and used a bigger chunk of sodium and shot it out of a shotgun let's see what happens let's get started boom first a quick demonstration of some sodium thrown in water [Music] now we're going to do our first test this is a sodium slug loaded in a shotgun shell and we're gonna be shooting it at that watermelon we've got a single shell we're loading in here let's try it what well that was disappointing I guess that the sodium is so light it doesn't give the gun powder behind it a chance to burn all the way before it pushes it out the barrel so now we'll keep some LED in there to add some weight so hopefully we'll get better results wow that seems like you have some punch to it that's more like it even though I missed the target a little bit you can still see that the sodium exploded you see the white smoke there and it did break the watermelon now I kind of nicked that watermelon on top so Graham is gonna try now and see if he's a better shot than me hold it like this hold it like that yeah that's fine all right tell me what all right on your mark one go oh it's on fire yeah dude you nailed it daddy's freaking awesome nail holy crap and it's put itself out too right Oh Oh still going oh that is put it back it's like on and off it's like an on and off again look at come here you can see this is all molten sodium right there holy cow that is just too cool that is freakin awesome holy Kappa look at the I'm not gonna put my finger down there but look at these the white oh my gosh Wow next it's time to compare our sodium slug to a real shotgun slug and see what kind of damage it does but I forgot to record this on the main camera so let's just watch gram dance instead now it's time for the high-speed Wow I actually wasn't expecting that oh we played was logged a lot well that was fun I wonder what's next we're gonna blow up some butane alright for the next test we're gonna try shooting some butane down there and got some cans of butane shoot him with the slug and maybe they'll blow up I can't see dang it okay here we go three two one yeah I'd say that works pretty cool alright I never want to hear you guys complain about safety again because that was a full right helmet with a ballistic glass plate faceplate and a full Kevlar vest front back side place and this didn't even throw off any shrapnel well the chair is still on fire like check it out we really we really got those yeah oh what's in there so yeah sodium slugs super cool maybe not super effective no but super cool not effective unless you're shooting butane cans it's interesting and if you don't get one am i holding this if you don't even get the actual make sure that the sodium fully closes around the bore you actually will see what happened in the first take yeah and the bounce because it does not have the pressures behind it too unfortunate because the gas escapes my arm is getting tired so maybe we should just end the video here which I think we had fun a lot of fun see you guys next time adios bye
