see milk yeah Beijing or Shanghai Beijing in some amazing your Sangha is actually the comparison were gonna make you can't just make me spill the beans right away yeah by the way why did you bring me to the gay park well I mean it's the nice Park near my house just happens to be nice but this old man [Music] actually this is known as the gay Park and the reason I found this out before anyone starts to think I'm being horribly it's politically incorrect here in my wife's clinic they have a big map of you know sort of areas of the city where you get different diseases right you know where where they've been like Handford mouth disease have broken out and whatever and circled over this park in Chinese it says it actually said gays in the park right so I asked my wife it's like what are you talking about and it's a date gays in the park aids HIV the immediate assumption is at the hospital is to watch no they're just showing like we're different diseases are prevalent in the city anyway it turns out this this is where gay people come to hang out right have their little dates and what are we doing in this game park together okay now heading towards the river and we're gonna compare Beijing ironic positive for Shanghai I'm going to say is that it's like stepping into the West it's very Western you get all the brands like they've got Taco Bell for goodness sake and like White Castle things like that which you won't find anywhere else in China right so international brands international amenity so if you're one of those guys who you know once a little tiny bit of an adventure like a tiny adventure tiny you get furious yeah but like the thing is it's pretty much like you're living in in a Western bubble in China so yeah you've got all your amenities there and stuff so it's it's very comfortable for Westerners I'll put it that way it's a comfortable city for Westerners so if you want that comfort if you don't really want to step out into the deep end you just want to double your toes in China Shanghai is the best for that so that's the positive and I think it's a positive thing for sure how about your first positive my first positive I mean I obviously I would say the same thing but I'm gonna dig a little deep we're gonna find out I'm going to say Shanghai cuz I got a hooters for crying out loud I know they do Shanghai the local culture there yeah it's been so used to foreigners yeah yeah you won't be gawked at no pay attention - right it is people are so used to it that even older women like in shops and stuff have some semblance of English under their belt okay which I found really really interesting last time I was there to shoot that vape Expo thing hmm so I renamed it so people didn't know is about vaping not all the views yeah yeah yeah a lot more English English prevalence you can get around and also like a very international vibe which you said but I'm saying that's it in the people's attitudes nobody's gonna walk up to you and say get the hell out of China that kind of stuff they're just so used to foreigners being there that it's you don't feel like you're an outsider anymore correct okay big big up for me maybe that in the beginning but now I would appreciate that if you're going to see an international rock concert or something it's going to happen in Shanghai it's the first that's the first place music and yeah music and art it's it's where you're gonna find it you never get that kind of thing down here and chin Jen you know so if you if you kind of want again an international sort of lifestyle it's the best music venues in concerts and stuff are actually a really big selling point yeah there are a lot of people I mean I'm not super into that but I would enjoy it as well but that the festivals they have there and everything very very not not easy to find in China they have like what that strawberry music music music Lyons the middle festivals and yeah I'd say if you're into like the arts yeah so if you're kind of like one of those dudes who likes to hang around and you know BRT and whatever I think it's the place for you hello traffic is orderly in comparison to the rest of China even down here but even ginger people dress yes people drive much more sanely up in shanghai Oh and they actually ticket people in control traffic for minor offenses - oh so I noticed that the the cops of they're almost like cops back home is the only place in China I've seen people get pulled over oh it's the only only place I've seen people being issued tickets for like turning when they should in or like cutting off the des trains and stuff that is positive that is a positive thing and I feel like it's a much safer place to drive okay like it's just so much better and the road quality yeah is much better it's beautiful okay macula number three for that same point you can ride motorcycles there yeah incredibly expensive it is positive it is yeah you have to buy like a hundred thousand R&B plate or something license plate yeah I did like a yeah there there are fishing areas here okay let's move on to negative I'd have to say the negative for Shanghai is the sort of pretentious attitude of the locals Shanghai is one of those places that if you're not a local they look down on you dude it's the same with the foreigners there man yeah the foreigners are the same they're doing the rest of foreigners in China that's because I don't live in China do they they live in Shanghai which is completely different fold their feathers yes I know why hey wait for the fans yeah I love you guys yeah exactly yeah so they do live in a kind of a bubble and if you're a white ear in I'm not I'm talking about the locals not the foreigners and of course if you're a white earrin which means you you're out out of the area persons you're not local yeah if you're not been deer in your white ear in and you will be treated differently people sent us here a very snobbish you know Bruce I mean they kind of hold their nose up to people who aren't from this so if you speak with a different dialect or something not so high well yeah exactly they will kind of look down on you and treat you worse they won't they'll give you like bad deals at the shops and things right there you know anyway we're just severely hungover Bay Park is yes an Avery Bay this because it's true every time we get together once a week right yeah anyway yeah my negative for Shanghai is the cost of living ah right the problem with Shanghai and this is this is obnoxious it is frickin expensive the rent is four or five times higher than Shin gen right the price is four for meals and stuff outlandish ly expensive portion size is very small you have all the pretensions of like a european western city yeah with the same cost hmm but not the quality yes how high is not first world I'm sorry to say it's way more in tune with a with the West yes than other cities in China even down here yeah but it is not first world it's still slummy and kind of dirty and stuff outside the cours yeah yeah outside the main sort of glitzy area yeah and that's probably where you're gonna live show you honest you're not gonna live in the downtown sector you're not gonna live on the Bund what you get pay you know really exorbitant prices for most things most amenities yeah but you get like a second world version of that right right and yes there's world-class restaurants there's amazing things but actually you pay more than you would for something similar maybe back home okay absolutely let's move on to Beijing okay you can go first on this one give us a positive Beijing has a feeling that I can say is not in any of the other first year city okay it's not necessarily a good feeling it's just it's got a vibe as soon as you get there okay that it's just a different maybe kind of a little bit special place right right you have a much more direct and brash local population right then the rest of the city's more willing to chat and talk maybe about politics even yeah it's a lot grimy ER and it's a lot more vibes so when you're in the hutong areas of like the you know third second and first ring roads there you really do feel like you're in like a china you might have seen in a magazine right right it looks like China it's got a lot of communist feeling elements gulag elements but it's also got a lot of traditional Chinese elements yeah it feels way different like it's not trying to be like somewhere in the West okay and I got that feeling immediately and I feel like if you want to come see China and like get that feeling oh I'm in China instead pictures of your family and then Beijing man for sure okay let me give you a positive about Beijing believe it or not for Beijing is again the fact that you have access to a lot of international amenities that you won't find in places like Shenzhen Guangzhou right Shanghai better yeah I mean you've got those what do they call April April Thursday's a stupid name like that whatever any mayor yeah whatever it is but you've got these big import stores like a chain all over the city right you've got places like Family Mart and you know you've got a lot of international brands there again and of course Beijing being the capital of China you do have access to all your embassies and all your things like that angry of course you know a lot more sort of international brands and stuff so how about a second positive from you a second positive Beijing is the I'm gonna say to subcultures compared to Shanghai which I found quite pretentious like you do have an art scene in China it's very arty but yeah it's very much like the more traditional aspects of art right okay the higher you know kind of like fine art fine art right okay whereas Beijing like we we went to really cool metal club on you snake around the suit songs and you have these subsets of people that are very much more seeming seemingly more individualistic right send people down here I mean I don't want to say this this is not not being racist but a lot of people are typically cut from the same cloth in terms of their hobbies and what they like to do yeah and I have been proven wrong about that but by and large people are kind of into the same stuff Yeah right absolutely right Beijing kind of flip that on its head and when I went though it's gonna surprised to see it's much more like an American city maybe like New York or LA and their kids the youngsters can be quite rebellious there yeah you know they got piercings they got the tats you know yeah I saw the all that stuff so it's got a lot more attitude I'd say the fact that you're close to a lot of sort of touristy sightseeing things short now if you're into that kind of thing yeah cuz I'm not right to me that's actually not a positive but it is for a lot of people to be able to go to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square and the Summer Palace are very impressive I don't know I'm gonna say impressive that Park was gorgeous the parks absolutely no that was the the Temple of Heaven order and whatever's yeah look I'm severely disappointed by all of those things because when you go look at them you'll see that they actually very badly maintained poorly like reconstructed you know the paint they paint badly like it's not good people hate me that the rest of China people hate me for saying this but it's it's like it's it's about as authentic as Disneyworld sure you know it's understand for for me but there is history there and you have access to the Great Wall if that's your thing right you have access to all of kind of touristy right China thinks so if that's your vibe if you're here for China Chinese culture go there yeah you're gonna see you're going to see all of that my negative is the stifling feeling that you are definitely in a Chinese controlled one-party state because Beijing is full of that Soviet era insignia it's full of that kind of gritty 1984 Big Brother feeling certain areas yeah and they never like this Oh PO sign on this building right yeah I could be anywhere with a nice guy scraper right sure I don't necessarily know I'm in China there other than the fact of those Chinese character is that right yeah what I do know is that when I look around I don't see anything that reminds me I'm in a communist country yeah but if there's no shortage of being reminded of that Beijing correct I mean the scary intimidating like military things like soldiers walking around everywhere soldiers everywhere the guns hammers and sickles everywhere you know you always know that it's not just the feeling it's also like gets cracked oh not in there man like every time there's a new law colleague in Shenzhen up in Beijing they test it they do but going to the bars and lock them make a make everyone take pee tests yeah exactly no suddenly to annoy whatever right you smash everything down and it gets pretty pretty rough up there in terms of police control sure and I don't think it feels very freeing to be there yeah I mean yes you say that and I agree with you 100% however I do find that they're way more relaxed on the laws like you see foreigners buzzing around on scooters motorcycles and stuff for sure there is a lot of holes in the law but there is also a lot of crackdown correct inconsistent in area yeah okay let's talk about pollution Beijing is like two different places yeah if you go there when it's polluted it's hell right and you can't even describe how bad it is it's literally like the worst place on earth and that is because and it's happened to me twice when I've arrived there you step out of the plane and your lungs are on fire right literally burning right your throat gets filled with grit right you can't see five feet ahead of you this is not even I'm not exaggerating okay it's awful so what's your winner Dean today Shawn hi okay step lightly okay why um I just say it's it feels a lot more relaxed than Beijing okay you can you can live a very western lifestyle yeah so if that's your thing which is my thing I've never been one of those guys to say ooh I want to go dressing like a Chinese traditional outfit and go out and just only Chinese food and learn the language fluently I'm not that guy I don't know why people think I'm that guy I don't know I mean I like China I love exploring China you can say yes but I am a westerner I do prefer a western lifestyle right and so you can find that in Shanghai easily easily and be connected to the rest of the world yeah so that's my reason how about you I'm gonna pick Beijing okay just because you've never been there in the winter no no yeah like I would never be there with my family okay we would never be there with my family at night I know I'd have a much more negative impression of it if I had been there but I know I know what it's like I bend a very polluted places yeah awful yeah but if I was in China for like a gap here mm-hmm I feel like it would just be a lot of fun it's a pretty fun crazy place I I think you're right on that yeah yeah and the neighborhoods can just be mish masses of people from everywhere around China you got shinjang people got all kinds of people that like everywhere around there right peddling their wares and it's just really really vibe it was really cool it's a cool place so if I was a married man or had to do some work and have my family live me a long-term absolutely Shanghai okay well I got a pic Beijing just yeah yeah I think as a gap year or if you just like a backpacker or something yes you're a young young person sure yeah that's good I'm glad we didn't agree on that one yeah so well I mean I hope you guys found it insightful anyway if you're planning to come here maybe you have a little bit more of an idea of what to expect sure and if you guys want to see us do other comparisons we left this yeah we can compare the smaller third-tier cities and things like that if you like this series if you hate it but it's nullus tell us anyways at thumbs downs now just give us a thumbs up and tell us yeah all right yeah anything you'd like to say to everyone before we sign off it's pretty hot today by the way Shanghai Beijing Tianjin Guangzhou bong-ja okay those things yeah it's about what you like it's about what you want to see and hopefully our insight gave you a little innings we've been there yeah our insight gave you a little bit more perspective on where you want to move root at least visit sure for you to China I'd have a look at least yeah yeah agree what are you doing yeah it's not that expensive to fly over here anyway I appreciate your guys's support leave a like if you liked the video and thank you for subscribing if you have yeah absolutely and you know like see milk said every city has it's good it's good side and they're very different so it really depends on you as a person which one you're gonna choose absolutely but whether or not you even visit China we don't care because we love you all the same and until next time guys you know the drill stay awesome
