[Music] sorry all right let's close this i'm all set up here okay so [Music] max um what do i fear yeah i fear [Music] foreign [Music] um yes my name is shakiri richardson so honestly it's not that hard just shut and carry i know the spelling of it makes it seem like it's pronounced a certain way but i feel like i've said it enough and so i feel like at this point if you keep saying it incorrectly you just want to say it that way at the age of just 21 she's already one of the fastest women over 100 meters in the history of the sport now if you don't recognize or know her yet [Music] i would say time is my blessing and my curse [Music] i love when the time is short but at the same time i only live there on the track [Music] on the track i've been blessed and run fast and that way time is my blessing thomas my my best friend i also feel like tom is my worst enemy because off the track i just feel like the my in my personal life time has cheated me you don't know when something or someone will be taken from you you say you feel like you have all the time in the world whether it's oh i know this person's gonna be in my life for a long time or whether i could care less if there's a person in my life the next day or the next minute [Music] your life can be gone when time you know literally you don't know when tom wants to stop his own clock i would say i am [Music] a undefined person i like to use just that one word undefined how people feel like i express myself may come off as cocky it may come as arrogant but honestly um it's just the more i show you guys the more behind closed doors i'm going through and i'm dealing with [Music] you honestly can get a different person depending on the day depending on the move depending on the weather going to the track that's a whole different story training and at the same time having to deal with my own personal life everything ties together in a way and one is not affected without the other [Music] it has been a remarkable year in the life and career of shikari richardson and she has been running 10.700 meter dashes since she was a freshman at lsu she set the collegiate record two years ago in austin texas and since then her star has continued to rise think it was probably in middle school when i realized i actually would only run a 200 i didn't necessarily want the 100 i had to start running 100 so i got in high school and the 200 i literally was blowing girls out like by 75 meters 100 meters literally like blowing him out i was like maybe this is for me [Music] she is coached by dennis mitchell he's not shy and neither is shakira richardson she is always on me being able to exceed and run times i never thought i would be running at 21 because most people don't even run these times until they're like well never they don't ever run these times on the inside tiana daniel's got a good start but this is where richardson winds up and eases back she points to the time 10.65 how about that all of our training boils down to basically a 10 second run on a certain date at a certain time at a certain place in the year my job is to rewind that and it usually takes about nine months so we train for nine months to prepare for a 10 second period one two three four five six seven eight nine ten one two three four five six seven eight nine ten [Music] the trials were supposed to be held in a renovated hayward field but in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic the most moment of the olympics the trials were also postponed in february workers put the crowd on the hayward field tower [Music] [Music] well actually including you know the pandemic we literally have been preparing for this moment probably for a year and a half now so [Music] you're just practicing not knowing you're just going you're like okay i'm feeling good i know i'm gonna run good but am i ever gonna should be able to show that am i ever gonna be able to actually run [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] we trained literally months like years just for these moments [Music] usain bolt has dated he chained four years to run it's sub 10. [Music] so much time is being gaining the shortest amount of time [Music] my i remember my earliest memory being i was sleeping with my grandmother and my grandpa was watching us to make sure he was good i swear that's my first memory i swear that's my first memory [Music] my grandmother always told me if i'mma do something be the best daddy put your all into it we start stuff and we finish it we're gonna stop [Music] she has been my number one she has always been my my purpose my reasoning and honestly all my morals and everything come from her she was a strong black woman she could display it in her care her love for just people growing and being the best of themselves and i'm able to display it just being really fast on the track [Music] that's because for the entire year she has been running times that we simply have not seen from an american woman in a very long time the hundred meters is one of the most expressive things that an individual can do [Music] everything that she's been through everything that has happened to her in her life whether it has been good or bad all comes out in that 10 second period [Music] my personal life my personal issues thinking about all of that not even just the bad stuff but because of the things i enjoy my family at the end of the day that is my motivation [Music] that is my fuel [Music] for me it's kind of kind of twisted this is somebody who is always aware of the spotlight being on her she wants that [Music] she needs it the united states women have not won the olympic gold in this event since 1996 so it's going to take somebody who is audacious and bold and brash whether you like it whether you dislike it you're going to be watching [Music] reality but only a reality in that moment i feel like i can see [Music] just literally like almost if i could just stand there and just watch everything it slowly happens what's going on the energy [Music] the people are in the stands [Music] the gun is going [Music] the gun is going on people learn [Music] go one two three four [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] 1087. [Applause] listen it's one thing to be winning during the regular season [Applause] and in europe it's another thing to be the favorite to spot the rest of america that much so richardson oliver and daniels are making the trip to the tokyo games [Applause] shakira richardson jvn oliver and tiana daniels all first-time olympians [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] my family has kept me grounded this year has been crazy for me going from just the last week losing my biological mother and i'm still here what did you say you lost your mother i'm still here last week finding out my biological biological mother passed away and still choosing to pursue my dreams still coming out here still making sure to make the family that i do still have on this earth proud and the fact that nobody knows what i go through everybody has struggles and i understand that but y'all see me on this track and y'all see the poker face i put on but nobody but them and my coach know what i go through on a day-to-day basis and i'm highly grateful for them without them that would be not me without my grandmother that would be yoshikari richardson so my family is my everything my everything is to the day i'm done carrie unbelievable we offer our deepest condolences on your loss as well as our congratulations thank you on what you accomplished in the midst of all of that pressure thank you so [Music] so i fear not being able to do what it is that i have been blessed to do that's my biggest fear given you know not being able to do what it is that people see me being able to do in what i have been designed to do [Music] everything happens when it's literally meant to happen everything happens at a certain time [Music] uh [Music] you
