[Applause] [Music] lightning has struck at los age stadium [Applause] and now anything can indeed happen in columbus ohio because the buckeyes of ohio state are about to open their home season a crowd in excess of 90 000 on hand in the great horseshoe here in columbus and are they ready and are they ever optimistic about this football team but they've got a tough opponent today as abc sports welcomes you to college football the washington huskies of the pac-10 come rolling in from the great northwest to take on the buckeyes both of these teams are already 1-0 ohio state having beaten boston college and washington was a winner over arizona state the buckeyes are about to pour onto the field here in columbus [Applause] [Applause] [Music] well good afternoon and welcome everybody with dick for real i'm brett mossberger as dick was saying a few minutes ago this really is one of the great settings in all the college football here at columbus but it was about a year ago when we went down to miami washington came in there from the northwest and they ended the canes let me tell you something they always give you problems when they come to college when you talk about husky football you have to start by talking about their defense it's a very quick fast-moving defense eight people up close to the line of scrimmage they stunt they blitz and every once in a while they sneak sneak up old number nine lawyer malloy the safety and make him the ninth man and he might be as good as safety as there is in the country he'll be busy today because folks the big change with these buckeyes they got a shiny new passing attack well they have more pass protections and john cooper as the head coach is a little bit leery on all the hype the offense is getting right now he says dick we've had better athletes in the past but we've never coached a team with a better attitude we think we're going to be a very good football team but they already have us ready to go the rose bowl he says too soon so it's college football ohio state and washington anything can happen we'll be back with the kickoff [Music] do you know what the red lab said to the black lab i know the duck season's about to open but i hear the jack of roots in town let's get on over there to the big horseshoe jack those hound dogs are ready partner well they certainly are but brent you know this is the first time in about five years that we've come to the horseshoe in columbus and the story has been about the game itself in the past it was about john cooper and whether he was going to retain his job or not well that's all changed because john cooper has gotten the contract for another five years till 1999 he'll be here in columbus the players say it never affected them but it did affect recruiting remember kajana carter the standout of penn state he was from nearby nearby westerville he went to penn state because of the uncertainty with john cooper cooper's got a lot to prove and he's got five years to do it jack thank you and on the other sideline jimmy lambright for him and the huskies out of jail they can go the distance this year if they can make it through the tough pac-10 they can wind up in pasadena for the first time in lambright's regime now the ball is on the tee for wales and remember that number 24 springs hauled one back 97 yards for a touchdown against boston college this will be his running mate glenn and glenn with a crease down to the 23 and a penalty flag comes flying at the 30-yard line our referee jimmy kimmeling to the big ten he's one of the good veteran officials illegal block on the return against the buckeyes so they'll bring it on back and now you will see as bobby hoyne senior who has started the last 25 games which includes two starts against these washington huskies couple of years ago he beat them here and then he lost a heartbreaker out in seattle and dick here's your victor key well they've got to control that eight-man front by using a lot of slot formations and getting that eighth man out of there little lower risk pass protection very advisable defensive lineman on the center's nose for on defense so horn brings the bucks up for a first and ten dudley the tight end is sort of flexed off the line george very deep dudley now moving for an extra blocker and george on a beautiful cutback into the middle of the defense out to the 24-yard line parrish who has returned as the rover making the stop and now let's check in on the chili's backs and receivers you just saw number 27 eddie george as the ball carrier and if you want a yard or two you will follow the left side of this offensive line because orlando pace is a huge player over there but keep an eye on the right offensive tackle golston who must replace the departed corey stringer with the tight end to the right they show power in that direction going to throw his first pass dropped incomplete into the hands of jensen who should have walked in with an interception there is eric goldstein on that side the offensive lineman who must hold up at right tackle and uh dick your feeling about that pass which was just thrown by home well he didn't look at the underneath coverage brad he should have seen that man moving inside out on that and not throwing the ball now the field corner over there is reeser number four dick number nine malloy he's about six yards off the line of scrimmage coin taking a careful look at where number nine is gonna be defensively he backs up watches him reads it and the left side it is complete demetrius stanley to the 31-yard line short of the first down now our chili's defensive lineup we have mentioned tony parish number seven he's the rover back he missed the opener against arizona state and he has returned here the man to watch in that defense the center fielder ladies and gentlemen number nine he is being compared with kenny easley who was a great one to come out of ucla and wound up playing professionally with the seattle seahawks third down now and short yardage for the buckeyes george is deep in that tailback spot [Applause] they'll run behind the right side and jensen beats the block and makes the stop for a loss and the buckeyes are forced to punt jerry jensen did a real nice job of reading that play and he's stunned he just took the hole met it right from the light on the scrimmage left side number 40. he sees it they're supposed to be picked up he wasn't picked up he came underneath the block made the play good job of reading that offensive play by jerry jensen and dick we've got a story here brent bartholomew is a freshman punter very seldom do the buckeyes go out and recruit and give a full scholarship to a freshman punter at least they have it under john cooper's regime but they do the young man hunted well against b.c neal is back deep this not a particularly good one and it was touched about the 45-yard line where the huskies now will have it first and ten and like hoyne another veteran quarterback will come trotting onto the field number seven is damon heward who's in the middle of that huddle there's his career they come off to the sideline of what's your victory keys for them dick they want to use a lot of slot formation against this defense to predict and dictate a 3-d secondary coverage they want to emphasize screams and draws to get up underneath those defensive ends neal is the tail back they'll test the middle he sprints beautifully to the outside got a crease and got to the buckeye 40-yard line now here is something that you noticed in the tape the other day about neil yes you know napoleon kaufman is gone but this guy can do some of the same things he's squatty he's strong he runs with a good base and he can bounce see that wide base he can bounce and get to the outside and then he can accelerate and get up the sideline as he did there miller who was the defender on that side got hooked and could not force the running back inside now if you want to watch a power blocker watch number 30 thomas the lead fullback they split them this time and sent them both out heward incomplete and a penalty flag comes flying thrown by a line judge they hooked richard thomas coming underneath on a little underneath pattern right there offensive holding bill edrick the offensive coordinator said he was really concerned about his center position brandon that's the reason i mentioned that ohio state would like to play a lot of man on the nose chili's backs and receivers now we have talked about thomas but the story with this offense is in the offensive line highfield who is number 79 dick mentioned what must happen here and he must hold up they have an injury there and they have moved him into that spot they're going to use the shotgun they're very optimistic this young man could do the job well he's an experienced player he's a starting guard last year never played center in a football game he's getting a true test today now they show shotgun and frequently they'll walk up out of it and set up in a regular team off a play fake they did hand off and they crossed midfield again on first and law now let's quickly set the buckeye defense and this is the unit that certainly will be tested the chile's defensive line and linebackers for the bucks matt frankis and mike bravo two danby defensive ends 92-94 kevin johnson steps into that spot with his first start he's number 52 at jc transferring here into columbus here's that slot formation now they get him into that three deep look now they're rolling it to a two deep kneel into the middle again and it was and belisari making the stop sean springs also the return man number 24 is an outstanding cornerback his father played running back in the national football league with dallas let's watch this center here dick high field number 79 working inside there there's a nice hole back to the right side of him there third down and 15. one to set the screen intercepted and miller has given the buckeyes a scoring chance at the 35 a penalty flag comes flying after the interception viewers put it right into the tummy well they said they wanted to run some screens and draws brian miller must have been in the huddle real smart linebacker pre-med student reads it all the way to the left side of your screen number 43 backs out he sees the screen developing he reads the screen he comes right up and picks the pocket he's got it and there he goes second career interception for a pre-med [Music] that was kessie the guard who slammed into him and picked up the penalty [Music] and the ball is being put down and the huskies 21-yard line now if the buckeyes are a good football team they'll strike right now we'll find out whether or not cooper's bucks are ready to roll when we come back no score in columbus ohio just underway washington of the pac-10 ohio state of the big ten 11 19 to go this city bubbling with optimism but with one eye on the fighting irish you wonder if perhaps they're not a little bit overconfident today but a huge turnover on the interception by miller and that gives the bucks a chance now and at fullback they'll line up in the eye and they play fake george on first down they fire incomplete out of the end zone great coverage by reggie rieser up there one-on-one all alone no help gives a little post move goes to the corner reggie covers him like a blanket nice job reggie that's tough to do and he's working on a young man ladies and gentlemen that they really want to feature in this city freezer was working on number 83. i don't believe i've ever come to columbus ohio when the coaching staff was as high on a wide receiver as they are on glenn i mean they put him up there in the category with chris carter and all the great ones who have come through here and now they send him out to that side and again you've got one on one it's a duel to watch if they go back he's gonna be sacked breaks away with his strength and makes it back for a loss of about a yard with jensen there every protection you use in your game plan has got to be sound and if you can't block everybody you gotta have a hot receiver assignment that time linebacker gets turned loose inside jensen pops inside right side of your screen no one picks him up they've got to have a man on that man right now [Music] they move this defense around they give you a look and then move it again then they give you a look and move it again and they don't care if the ball snapped while they're moving they just charge from the position they end up in it is third and eleven coming after him again they'll take the swing and he breaks away again is on his at own eight-yard line touchdown the fullback sue they came after with a pressure defense now normally when you blitz there is a man responsible for the fullback right here nobody picked him up it's a scramble situation so allure to the left side of your screen they do not come to balance and tackle him in the backfield good movement by hoing he finds the full back down there all alone broken play big play they wanted to set the screen it was covered point on the scramble with hoffman in pursuit they hit sue lua and now it's jackson for the extra point [Music] and remember the defense can return it it is picked up by malloy and out of bounds where the play will stop and he'd taken it back it would have been two points for the huskies on this extra point have we heard that before in the midwest seven days ago to be exact we'll be right back [Music] college football on abc brought to you by beechwood age budweiser the king of beers this bud's for you nike who encourages you to participate in the lives of america's youth state farm insurance like a good neighbor state farm is there and the document company xerox 6-nothing on the sewalu touchdown when we came to town coach cooper said well let's see sua lua had a little academic trouble two things about him number one he doesn't like to play football and number two he doesn't like going to class other than that he's a fine young man number three number three though he loves to eat he's 265 and he's playing himself into shape and they'll end up making a student out of him and a good football player he is out of the doghouse now there's coleman on the right-hand side for the huskies and sheehy number one is over the other side [Applause] [Applause] picked up by the short man at the 25-yard line cameron colt cameron cleland that's that great big tight end 260 pound tied in returning better in his hands and a big offensive lineman in the wedge jack arrow both of these teams have had a long layoff washington hasn't played in three weeks i mean ohio state hasn't played in three years washington for two weeks now the coaches and the players said no it's not going to bother us but taking a look at the initial plays you'd have to say the offense on both teams is a little ragged sure so lewis scored but it was based upon the defense pressuring and the ball going in the air defense always plays tougher though indeed it was a busted play jack that resulted in a touchdown and now it is kneel again sliding to the left and neal with dali 50 cut back and into buckeye territory at the 42 and ohio state with a flag down on the far side of the field the buckeyes have got to be concerned dick about the right side of the defense it has been extremely soft they cannot allow to be hooked see the play was starting to the right so the defensive end started collapse and go in pursuit a little bit too soon see this man has to maintain a leveraged position when the ball starts this way because this guy can do this and that's just what he did see he gets there he gets there he gets there now battle hooked him to the inside and tackles him he's holding oh eric battle number seven he had a hand full of jersey that's one reason he got out there cleanly yeah brave will have a hard time getting tara's number off his he's jersey good one yeah he's really a dedicated guy he's waiting his turn to play he's an avid weight trainer he's strong as a bull for a little guy and he was quick [Applause] [Music] sort this out there's a big update down south let's go to john saunders brent thanks a lot in week number one it was vanderbilt week number two southern miss both big scares for alabama but they survived this week arkansas buried lonnie to j.j meadors now watch it again on the replay the ball bounces but it looks like it hits him in the hands and bounces back up into his chest the officials agree it's a touchdown and arkansas wins in 2019 brent but john danny ford starting to put the show on the road you call that you're an old friend of danny's and you said just give them a few years and they'll have that thing going just because it's a tight end this is another huge penalty which has gone against the huskies this brings the ball all the way back to the 19-yard line and it's first and 22 as heward eyes the defense kneel to the right with that explosive first step neal breaks it neal is in a foot race now neal to the 20 with a 15-yard line and a touchdown saving tackle by see kelly now this time the defensive end gets up field too far and opens up the hole inside so he goes up underneath him rather than outside him so he cuts back now he's up inside the defensive lineman now he has that burst of speed getting back gets good downfield blocks and he just turns it on and fortunately rob kelly number 34 was quick enough to catch him a 66-yard run he has carried five times for 96 and he had another 20-yarder call back with a penalty so now they get the ball down at the buckeye 50-yard line and the buckeye defense being pushed all over the field not this time there's a two-yard loss the middle was ready and johnson the new linebacker number 52 got a piece of him but dick the buckeyes have got to be concerned about this defense well last year remember we did the ball game in early the huskies ran so well by cutting back underneath that wide defensive end play they want to do that they also want to run the draw up underneath that and they want to run some screens unfortunately the first screen was picked up second down decision off to heward's right sheehy who threw that touchdown pass gets the handoff she he finds a crease and sheehy to the 10-yard line gain of about five this will leave the huskies that are right about third and five now they'll come in the lamb right sideline see what they do they come off and block you what we call zone blocking everyone coming off blocking through the area this time they change up and pull the guard they pull the big guard here and kick out see now they block this way just another look and another way to run the football good kick out block right there by benji olson keep an eye on number 82. he's the tight end they flex him off to the left conwell heward with a fullback there is going to use sheehy paris is there in a foot race the corner touchdown washington just like that the huskies come down and pound the buck defense same problem though deep running up underneath the defensive end and the linebacker not getting back in and filling that hole good execution and real good running ability this time by the backup running back that hole has got to be filled by a linebacker the linebacker in here has got to fill that hole here as the defensive end gets to the outside and they come back underneath there's the hole up underneath there beautiful cut back good running skill now accelerate to the end zone now this for the lead [Applause] wales fortney puts it down and the huskies lead it by a point on the measure of their successful extra point after the buckeyes miss one so washington rolls into columbus an 18-point underdog and right away they stand up and say we're going to play a while ladies and gentlemen on abc speaking of action the alumni band has joined the regular band here at columbus what a rendition of the national anthem we had prior to this game couldn't get any better in a college stadium it was really something out of the end zone with the wind in his back buckeyes old bring it out at the 20-yard line now i want you to take a look at this top 20. and i want you to tell me if they're being fair to the pac-10 and the big ten you play tennessee chattanooga and you jump up you battle for your life and come back with a with a good comeback and you fall down maybe they ought to turn that whole voting process over to a computer i mean michigan's 3-0 and they beat a virginia team that's pretty good in his rank i'm having a hard time with that all right first and ten now for the bucks why don't you tell us how you feel about that brings them up to the 20-yard line they're down a point as you would imagine back at fullback flynn is in motion and here comes george off left tackle for about eight yards and malloy cleaning up with chorik and let's send you to john's honduras john from tennessee and florida would you expect a high scoring aerial attack peyton manning had already thrown for a touchdown danny werfel comes back on the next drive 15 yards to ike hilliard this one's tied at seven apiece brent yeah get the addi machine out john and remember this the tennessee offensive line is going to keep the volunteers in this baby for longer than a lot of folks think it is second and three right now for the bucks here's george again and nothing doing penalty flag has been thrown on the play richie beat his block number 97 and made the play you know taking a look at richie on the practice field yesterday he is a man at six four two seven really is put together very very strong you know in the game plan the offensive coordinator joe hollis said they wanted to use some hard and soft counts what i'm talking about is they want to over emphasize the count one time and let it be soft next time and see if they can't draw the defensive team offside because they do so much moving around dick the biggest problem the huskies have faced here is penalties that has been part of their personality over the years ball is brought out to the 32-yard line very lopsided in that department right now they're unbalanced here and they'll run in that direction with george and george battles his way to the 37-yard line no if you're going to run the football you might as well run to the left because big orlando pace over there and most defenders most defensive coaches don't want to put a man directly on orlando pace because he annihilates him so many times they'll put a linebacker there and they'll stunt defensive lineman down in there and scrape the linebacker off he is a bulk of a man at 320 pounds came in at 340. second down and five for the bucks doubly the tight end is to the right play fake point on the new fires diving catch at the 49 by glenn they'll mark it at the 48 first down ohio state and there is mr glenn good call by joe hollis offensive coordinator court they take the quarterback and move him out of the pocket he's been under pressure remember the touchdown broken play scramble this time they take him out of the pocket get him outside they block the linebacker get him out soft corner throws the strike see now next time when they rush inside they'll be a little bit more concerned about allowing the quarterback to get outside now reeser will take glenn all alone to the left you'd have to think that ohio state will go back there before long even though reeser was all over him underneath and he has his tight end and that is number 88 hauser bobby hauser doesn't figure really big in the passing game they like to throw the ball to ricky dudley the other tight end he is mainly their blocker at that time they're just taking a little look into the tight end this defense is continually moving you use two approaches you wait for a long time and hard count or you go on a very quick count where sometimes you're throwing no huddle at them second down and three and you can see the stimming being done the huskies ready with that big front they expected george who breaks the tackle george with some great power running to the 36-yard when you talk about george is at 230 pounds six foot three big strong guy and both you and i mentioned to him as we looked at their game tapes he's a better football player this year he runs in better control he is more relaxed though he doesn't look relaxed running there but he is just a better balanced player today than he was a year ago last year was his first year starting ran for 1400 yards [Music] that walt harris the new quarterback coach brought to the program just more variety in types of past protection washington leading ohio state 7-6 four and a half minutes opening quarter and it's been an explosive one the offenses have dominated neither defense playing is expected this is george for the buckeyes and he's to the 22-yard line and that's another ohio state first down boy i'll tell you there was a heck of a collision by nikki sue number 37 and fullback on the inside linebacker just follow him as he goes in and one does an iso block on the linebacker as he fills here he comes he steps bam what a collision he forces the ball outside ricochets off there and ink aliaga who he made contact with ends up getting in on the play dick we've had 200 yards of offense in the first quarter alone ohio state and washington glenn is your motion receiver this is georgia getting on a cutback in aliaga and again george won't let that first man wrap him up he is whipping linebackers oh that's that 230 pounds and running with confidence also again another real nice block by nikki lua he gets an excellent kick out blocking the linebacker filling and he nailed you'll see at the top right side of your screen big 37 lead inner bang he gets a big block right there freezing right there now you'll see what he's in for he's fighting his life to get just break one more tackle for one more yard coach does he deserve a rest i think so pepe pearson steps into that backfield he's got a little spark too they'll offer a little change up now they load to the right and it's full back up over the top and that was hoffman coming underneath stephen hoffman number 91 when we first met up with him in seattle he was steve came to columbus here to see suddenly steven yeah i know his brother dave played for the huskies as well here's big orlando pace that everybody's raving about freshman of the year in the big ten last year cuts down look at the agility to get down there and use a cut-off block on number 97 david richie very fine athlete for 320 pounds ladies and gentlemen coach here comes third and five now for the bucks they like to motion dudley down here time out by hoing they were five for five in the red zone against boston college you can't get much better than that cooper's a little nervous if he doesn't get this first down he's got to kick a field goal and he's already had an extra point blocked move it right back now the goodyear blimp one of america's most enduring corporate images floats overhead the horseshoe providing us with these lovely aerial views for today's game between ohio state and washington huskies leading it 7-6 here's a third in five dick you've watched practice you watch tape you talk to the coaches third and five what do the buckeyes want to do here they like to move ricky dudley in in motion from one side of the formation to the other then read a flat pattern to him or a slant pattern to the wide receiver now that not a hundred percent but they like to do that some they're not going to do it on this play he's up a tight end [Applause] it looks like blitz unless they're blessed they'll run george sweep my pole george on the cutback and he slams for the first down to the six yard line they're up bluffing blitz back out of it right at the end with zone coverage very good call very good change up that's you know split max is really a new emphasis formation for these people here because it allows them to put backs in position to get out for patterns better plus block linebackers obviously right there the fullback got in position to block an outside linebacker better still two and a half minutes and i can't get over it it's the huskies and the buckeyes and we've had 220 acres of offense it's 7-6 buckeyes are threatening again double tied in and this time dudley is flexed and comes in motion he's right behind over to the right now and george will run in that direction and stepping through there was jensen number 40 to break the play up as chorek number 46 also came in they have to come up with a blocking scheme that picks up jensen as he runs through maybe counter him a little bit but he is running through an immediate flow over the backs and making plays they've got to seal up that gap second down and seven glenn returns from the buckeye sideline he goes out to the left remember he ran a corner root earlier on reserve reeser beat him that time point now under center oh he's going to throw it to the right who's whipped at the three-yard line good law the cornerback would not let him free that's the same thing they did to boston college though in boston college he ran him in motion and put him in that position they're doing some of the same things that are varying the formation from which they do them they want to throw the slant if the slant's not there they take the straight pattern to the tight end or on the other side the back let me correct myself i call them young man good lads green green one number ten over there the short side defensive back and uh he's holding up and there's tommy horn brother of the buckeye quarterback who sends in plays and here's an interesting spot buckeyes can still come away with a first down on third and one without scoring the touchdown sualua and george play fake they're gonna throw deep incomplete a gamble and the tight end was covered they wanted dudley and the huskies were all over that attempt they had dudley early they had him early but they didn't quite get it to him quick enough he was behind everybody but then the ball was throwing just a little too slow here they're going to go for the field goal so on fourth down jackson trots in pine in the holder for the bucks this for the lead they trail it by a point remember the huskies were able to block ohio state's first extra point attempt [Applause] it's good so jackson boots the bucks into a two-point lead 9-7 but overall washington has to be happy with the way they held down inside the 10-yard line [Music] john cooper probably not too happy with that play call and i'm reminded that tonight the biggest new hit of the season moves to its regular night in time the jeff foxworthy show at 8 7 central tonight on abc let's see how do you tell a redneck follow i guess it's followed by betty white and marie osmond in the premiere of maybe this time then paulie shore stars in encino man on the saturday night movie all tonight on abc speaking of redneck what's happened to jack arute we've got so much action we can you know listen congratulations to jack oh yeah yes he's announced his engagement over this weekend oh yeah well he gets engaged on the road quite often come on [Laughter] congratulations jack [Laughter] well the ball is on the t now for malfoy he handles all the kickoff chores here for the bucks sheehy and coleman are back deep [Applause] you know as offensive coaches you're going to go back to that third one call and say to yourself why didn't i run over orlando pace with the 230 pound tail back once maybe twice see he runs up that's at the eight-yard line [Applause] out to the 25-yard line and now we go once again jack congratulations big fella well thank you but i don't know after what coach said i might not have been engaged anymore oh you know i'm kidding i'm a redneck i don't know what look behind vermeel's neck and it's a little red there too we've heard some comments from him you know one of the things guys we've talked about it the teams are not affected by it but you walk around columbus and the fastest selling item is not the match up here it's the match-up in two weeks and one of the things that people got to be careful about is pointing towards notre dame it's on the 30th but you still got to get by the huskies first and ten for washington heward will put it up and he had good time this is neal he puts a wonderful move on johnson and makes his way to the 26 yard line i mean he did a number on him springs finally comes up to make a stop johnson had no chance no chance seeing past that time they gave the center the new center trevor highfield a little help from the guard because of the defensive alignment they were able to do that that really helps the center when you have a man on your nose and you get help from your guard second down annie and heward over checking they're gonna let the time run out is what they're doing here so they will not snap the ball again we had 225 yards of offense these are the buckeyes not the miami dolphins [Applause] well some of the youngsters here at ohio state returning this weekend as school opens next week but it's not being used for football with 95 000 or so on hand it is a dormitory for some of the youngsters here in columbus and we start the second 15 minutes with a 9-7 ball game buckeyes over the huskies of washington damon heward the senior quarterback neil who has replaced kaufman as the tailback and a whistle before the snap [Applause] and it's going against the huskies so it'll be five yards back and let's check in with john sanders john brent oregon has a new coach they've got some new position players but tony graziani is picking up where his squad left off last year 22 yards to josh wilcox and they lead ucla 14-nothing meanwhile in another one of those pac-10 big ten matchups illinois knocks off arizona back to yours brent [Music] that's the first win for illinois been a very disappointing start they were stung late by oregon out on the west coast last saturday night here it's heward he hits neal neal with unbelievable balance although let's see yes he was down back there his knee was down around the 24-yard line but he is amazing as we take a look at all the offense we had in the first quarter well you said it brent 225 yards of offense combined by the two team rushing yards for washington real heavy time in possession real heavy here it just shows you a higher percentage of big plays is actually a little bit better than being strong in the time of possession [Music] greg belisari number 30 moves inside out on him i don't think he went down look at the balance and control now bona sorry being the hustler that he is he wheels around and tackles him the second time yeah i agree with you dick i don't think he was down either hugh now with the split box both out and heward gonna take off the middle was open and heward slides to the 43-yard line not known for his book speed but the middle was soft and heward took advantage of it with another yellow flag and it's going to go against the huskies penalties are killing them mike gravel defensive end number 94 felt he was the guy being held he was talking to the referee nick that's the sixth penalty against the huskies they've been penalized for 60-something yards here already half the distance repeat third down they're going the wrong direction [Music] jim has coached a lot of games in his coaching games just like this one he'll get him settle down but they do hold quite a bit we notice that in the films look at those linemen get those hands out all linemen get their hands out but wow sometimes they hold a little too much i think it's been taking place right here she's just holding on to him and he couldn't get i'll see he's still got him in the left-hand corner all right let's see what heward and the huskies come up with here they've got to be careful same play mill closes a little bit quicker and huge slides to the 19-yard line this time and now the huskies will punt it away bill david comes with a quarterback draw a design draw up inside they ran it against arizona state as well trying to go in to score just trying to get a little better field position to get that punt on the other side of that 50-yard line the buckeyes were working in practice two days ago on blocking a punt just in case the snap is a little off-center here the tight end cleland looks like he's down snapping the ball this time for washington it's a good one and prince gets it off and back now is glenn at the 45-yard line to the left crushes midfield spins free if he gets daylight 30 thomas has got to get him around 94. fumbles out of bounds ohio state ball he's dangerous he gets that ball a little too far out away from his body using it as a a balanced ball to help him maintain his balance as he tries to outrun somebody [Music] the chevy s series it's one ride you don't want to miss [Music] look you're not going to believe this but goodyear retailers have lower prices an amazing 25 percent on some of goody's most popular classes your light truck and performance tires other sale prices start at 19.99 hurry this sale ends soon thanks domino's deep dish always gets quite a reaction saucy tasty now order a thick zesty deep dish and get buffalo wings for 199. this is deep okay david get back to me right and peter two words in budget what how do you look at mis under budget reduce stuff but we all got to work smarter but sir it's not her it's those new computers they do everything for her i suppose they just installed themselves practically they tell her if there's a problem even before it happens it's on under budget compact desktops and servers make the most of windows 95 creating a system that can almost run itself where does he get this stuff well actually he's right tonight we're bringing back the stony caveman he survived a million years but now can he survive high school disney presents brendan frazier as encino man tonight well now let's see there's our regional schedule for abc next saturday looks like a pay-per-view weekend huh here in columbus obviously want to watch the bucks out in the washington area you're going to watch washington state ucla but you might want to take a peek at that texas a m colorado game down there next saturday 3 30 eastern time right here on abc now it is first and ten bobby hoing and the buckeyes are on their own 46-yard line george is the running back incomplete dudley was open and down we go to jackaroo well brent when the offense for the washington huskies came off the field it was evident that they were extremely frustrated you mentioned all the penalties that they've received thus far in the game well jim lambreit went over to them because they're all shaking their heads and said guys look this isn't our house you've got to play the game the way the refs call it sure they may do it different in the pac-10 but this is the big ten adjust then he turned around and walked away probably the best way to handle that no question what else can you do yeah you can't make a living just beefing about it but boy it is lopsided right now let me tell you folks that but dick you did i must say coach vermeel did notice some holding in the arizona state tape it went on call in fairness to the fellows down there in the striped shirts and uh george stepping to the left and down at midfield and fiala in the game would not let up you know who did a real nice job in that play with rashaan daniels the offensive right guard picked up the linebacker and really nailed him or else he throws him for a minus yardage play lashawn real good alert offensive line play at that time this defense is so quick and they move around so much tennessee pounding on the gators and it could be a real long afternoon down there coach that's one of the best offensive lines i've looked at this year [Music] now it is third down [Music] bobby hoyne the pocket hit on the release and into the middle at the 39-yard line using hauser again he has gone to hauser twice real good job that time they changed up they gave him a look and they gave him a two deep look went to a robber type defense he read it hauser came inside stopped up in the hole threw the ball good adjustment made by bobby hoing showing the experience being a fifth year senior showing having been coached real well all through his career initially by ron hudson and now by walt harris noah knows what he's doing [Music] josh smith number 99 one of the down linemen george now forced back to the inside breaks and tackle again and he makes it to the 38-yard line you know george is an attractive young man nice to talk to him and jackaroot had an opportunity to ask him about his running style and this is what he had to say uh i guess you know power back the speed and can make a couple people miss here and there you know you know just i guess the the package the whole packaging that's what i try to work on just be the complete package he's got a great smile too doesn't he dick yes he does where's that sweep again he's got daylight to the 23-yard line and the old power sweep with george finally brought down by greenlaw they're coming at green law's short side side there you know and a real good job by jamie sumner the offensive guard lyman never get enough credit for doing things real well within a well-designed offensive play but he pulled he came around and he sealed off the linebacker and it prevented him from getting to play right there at the line of scrimmage nice job by jamie sumner here he is the big guard right here he'll pull to the left he steps around following lays there bang he picks off jerry jensen right there that allowed that hole pepe pearson checks in miller is one of the wide receivers for the bucks this is pearson they'll sweep it to the right calhoun got the block and the lawyer cleans up number nine lawyer malloy you won't see a better safety in college football this year if there's a jim thorpe candidate who's better than his he's gonna have to be a real big timer because this fella can play football they're running that sweet play and it's hard to believe you can run a sweep so effectively against an eight-man front there should be a defensive end right in his face now there's a real good block right there on parish number seven by nicola you shouldn't be able to run outside against that eight-man front [Applause] on the move ball is snapped pepe pearson is cut off coming to the left and this time mr number seven perish who has returned as the rover back comes up on it he wanted to turn up inside but jason chorik 46 did a real nice job of preventing now he didn't make the tackle but he prevented the play from going up inside and allowed the pursuit to come over and make the play [Applause] so george checks back into the buckeye lineup here this is third down and 11 for the buckeyes after the loss of four yards on the play by parish so parrish puts him in third and 11. they tighten up on tillman on the short side of the field they give glenn some respect over on the right and hoing left side out of bounds incomplete it is fourth and eleven and the buckeye drive stalls ricky dudley crossed the field from his left tight end position crossed and came into a wide hole all by himself and the ball was thrown and he looked around to see if there was any defenders around him he said no defenders god you should have thrown me the ball you know the huskies have been bending and bending here but so far they haven't broken you know they've stopped them twice when they've been on the move and now they put them down in fourth and eleven and here's jackson to attempt another field goal this will be put down at the 31 so making a 41-yard attempt here it's a fake they bring george around off the corner george in a wing back spot george size for the first down he's got it take a look at this from the highest seat in the house [Music] real gutsy call real gutsy call here we're looking right down on wing back right here coming in motion coming around [Music] we're gonna fake it all the way ball snaps comes back and fakes the kick he pitches it to pearson who has a running back he's off and running fortunately they have a receiver down field to block to the right center of your screen is that a beautiful picture brandon all right now diving for that first down big big play that's a gutsy call live by the sword and sometimes die by washington's through the ears been known for a whole lot of successful gadget plays george coming to the left now malloy comes up hard at the nine yard line that time aggressive out of center field helped out by parrish and they don't let george through the end zone see that time jamie sumner 72 the guard didn't get his pull and seal off the inside out pursuit of that linebacker therefore he could make the play but it takes more than one man to tackle george you've got to get both arms and then get some help he's a big man george is out and pearson checks into the coin the backfield [Applause] orlando pace is over to the short side so is tillman glenn is off to the right that's dudley now it's pearson slammed at the six yard line and this will be third down for the bucks they use dudley in many different ways as a receiver as a tight end and as an hvac and in the eighth back position they run him in motion here he is in motion coming right here and he'll lead and they'll kick on the linebacker right here as he fills that allows the running backs to go ahead and get a couple more yards bang he gets the block right there nice job he'll also use him to go wider and hook the deep busy bend and then they'll also throwing the ball in the flat off that same movement now it is third and four and time out has been called 7 21 to go in the first half the buckeyes lead washington 9-7 tell the truth now did you go to sleep in the second half or at halftime just after halftime right you might want to stick around this could be a good one steelers and the dolphins a lot of folks tell me down in south florida this is the year that don shula and dan marino take it all the way to the super bowl you're going to want to check them out steelers are beating up but they look pretty good last week down there in houston that's going to be a dandy 9 eastern time monday night football al frank dan will be down there they've probably been down there in florida for a couple of days now hoyn comes off the sideline and dick what i wanted to see and yes george has returned so john cooper uses his second timeout but he does it wisely he gets his best football player back on the field for what is a critical play here third and four for the buckeyes demetrius stanley is number three coins backing up fires wide open touchdown oh they let glenn hall alone in the end zone reeser turned it loose and there was nobody back there terry glenn just been a very simple pattern now they have evidently put zone coverage on him racer number four turns him loose and lets him go inside for help there's no help he's not there a mistake made and coverage there should be a man inside out on him when a corner plays him outside and lets him go they'll be talking to lawyer malloy about that one back there in center field dick or was reese or maybe supposed to be in man we don't really know until we check with the coaches but it could be one or the other and the buckeyes apparently gonna go for one here as jackson trots out on the field and now they're explaining it to coach lambright as to what happened down there on the defensive call and the mix-up the movement of the slot man coming over shook up the coverage over there they didn't adjust properly [Applause] good on the extra point and the buckeyes make it 16-7 7-16 to go here in the first half at the conclusion of the game we'll select a genuine chevrolet most valuable player of the game from each team you know today chivalry has contributed almost five and a half million dollars to the scholarship funds of america's colleges and universities well the old fake field goal fourth and eleven eddie george dive for the first down buckeyes turned it into a touchdown and now it's a 16-7 lead and the huskies will try to come back here dessa sure is back deep with sheehy malphite handle the kickoff chores here for the bucks [Applause] winded is back let's see if he tries to take it on into the end zone college football to kick it off from the 35 still [Applause] this we're not going to make it into sheehy driven back to the four and here he comes stop short of the 20-yard line there it is that's the man we were tipped off by fred puggage one of the special team coaches who said he's done a heck of a job what happened to lawyer malloy here dick here's lawyer malloy over here now he'll move as the man in motion demetra stanley comes in motion on that last touchdown play he's moving with him now then the running back george comes out to his side and he stops and gets tied up in coverage with him and doesn't continue to go inside out and i'm not sure that's the breakdown in the coverage but it didn't help it now on first and ten here is neil and this time the buckeyes have got over the night team with fickle number 99 bringing him down [Music] what this team might have been [Music] [Applause] oh yeah just it may be playing a little better defense with dan wilkinson in there and those two fine linebackers plus corey stringer wouldn't be too bad at that right tackle spot but they opted for the corvettes and play it on sunday big daddy was down here carl earlier this week i guess he got himself a little hot water down in cincinnati here now the tight end i think that's his first reception of the year conwell i think he was shut down in the arizona state game as i remember looking at the numbers he's a good tight end very good good blocker good receiver i mean he's a leader he was a captain in junior high school high school in college here he is a captain of this football team and you know he's got a brother that wears an 82 but it's on the door of his stock car that he drives yeah i think his his dad drives too doesn't he back there yeah these guys are one of nine kids they've got a lot of people driving something out first down and 10. [Applause] the ball at the 36 yard line [Applause] and behind the left side you know that uh the size of the big offensive tackles and the smaller defensive end types is going to be a problem as we go along through this ball game that time bob sapp the big left tackle had matt fincus he outweighs him by about 40 pounds and i'll tell you he took him to the inside and buried him well now it is second down and seven huskies trying to mount something here before the intermission they come with the dog [Applause] [Music] 43-yard line howard and johnson are there defensively [Applause] well conwell came off to the inside that time they covered him so they moved the ball to the outside of the wide receiver and as you called it ty howard really reacting i like throwing the ball with this big guy he's strong as a bull a great track man as well look at him here brent putting that shot 55 foot well here it is third down [Applause] quick pop first down decision to turn him loose into ohio state territory at the 47 and a flag i kind of believe the slot was not far off the line of scrimmage therefore he was not an eligible receiver let's see what they call i mean from up here it was close [Applause] at home maybe you get away with it here you don't get away with it they've got away with much no i know it hey you know as a coach i can remember the same thing going to husky land jim owns his coaching great football coach [Applause] [Music] it's not going your way right now [Applause] because it wasn't off that line it wasn't off the line yeah i saw that here most of the time you get by with it you know the national football league they really let you get by with it but in college they call it more often than not he was not far off the line see right here he's got to be back just a little bit further they're calling him on the line of scrimmage it's a close call maybe not called in husky stadium it'll be called in buckeye and as a huskies are going to punt it away and glenn waits at the 20 yard line lots of time left in the first half four and a half minutes 16-7 bad snap but they were not coming full bore that time there was the one that they could have gotten the ohio state coaches were very aware of it but they said we just have to have it called at the right time and unfortunately for the bucks they did not floating above all this action a very familiar sight the goodyear blimp goodyear has been providing aerial views for television for nearly three decades you know brent we've been told a lot about the changes in the ohio state offense but as you look at it and i look at it and we've been here in a lot of times really they're still winning the football game by running it and giving the ball to the big tailback and i wouldn't be surprised to see him open it up just a little bit more now and utilize some of those variations of pass protection and pass routes that they have in the game plan [Applause] first down demetrius stanley runs in behind george again some heavy pounding george to the 24 yard line and that is divers bringing him down speaking of pops you get a bad snap on a punt and you're going to have something happen watch sprints has to hurry now he fielded the ball very very well and now he says i got to get down he goes down and down he goes and he was hit there by kelly the safety he's running down there now he's going to check the rear end see if it's still there point with split backs oh protection that time holds up beautifully and he finds dudley the buckeye protection is suddenly getting a little bit stronger the protective cup gave hoing all the time he wanted they rushed the four zoned off with seven people gave him time you'll notice a big throwing lane will appear right over here to the right side of your screen good pass protection great big throwing lane in there now very easy to throw that strike when you have a throwing lane like that good job of pass protection remember hoyn has been able to run a bit in that middle from time to time too hasn't he stanley over to the right here's outside george he busts it george to the 30 out of the 20 and out of bounds at the 16-yard line [Applause] nikki sue lower the fullback absolutely annihilated a linebacker on that play absolutely it's a wonder he still has his helmet on big pullback leads through and nails him well executed play the crowd chatting eddie eddie what a job he has done already here nicki nicki nicki on this one real tight good inside running sualua gets a knock down pancake block and here comes the speed now this guy was a hurdle champion in high school out of that philadelphia area he can run 51 yards 16 carries 140 yards pepe pearson gives him some relief hippie slips behind the left side that's that base side over there and he slams inside the 10-yard line okay you know we've talked about sumner and he's doing a job again over there at that guard spot we're going to go back and take a look at sualua and give a fullback credit for doing a great job here he is right here watching lead through on the linebacker now the linebacker is going to have to meet him sooner or else this is going to happen more often there's a knock down see on ikaika malloy he's a little bit undersized for that position so he's got to attack him a little bit more 2 12 to go bucks threatening again here in the first half glenn is the motion receiver george is back and george will battle to the six yard line and one thing you'd say about eddie george he's running himself into serious i mean serious heisman trophy consideration for this performance here today well you know at ohio state they're going to feature the tailback they're going to feature him he's a big strong guy he has been durable he's gained that one year of experience a year ago the only running back in the history of the school to go 200 yards twice in the season and hey he's going to be a candidate for this award yeah you bet that lawrence phillips in limbo wide open now leland mcelroy down at texas a m said dandy you'll make an all-out run at it also this is not a legal formation and that's the last buckeye timeout with 119 to go why not you're up 16-7 you don't want a penalty right now that's right yeah go ahead and utilize it but they were lined up improperly and while horn and coaching staff talk about it let's check in on some upcoming shows here on abc [Music] tomorrow lois will you marry me will lois grant clark his greatest wish or will she uncover his deepest secret the season premiere of lois and clyde tomorrow it just gets better tuesday it's the premiere of the season's most eagerly anticipated new show the critics agree murder one is a must-see it's the best extraordinary [Music] murder one premieres 10 9 central ohio state 16 and threatening again washington seven with 119 to go and coming up with the prudential halftime report john saunders will have scores and highlights from all the action and we're going to hear from nebraska's embattled head coach tommy osborne regarding the cornhuskers controversies off the field last time i saw cornhuskers were scoring some points let's see 63 against arizona stadium if they had the defensive lineman we checked out so they're doing it against the team that might not be that bad meanwhile bruins are in trouble here in the second quarter as oregon's doing it again illinois wins for the first time and it had to be a very very depressed arizona football team i think as everybody could understand with that young man dying after his injury down there suffered in practice a tragedy the coach was not on the sideline coach comey went to the funeral on the west coast today here for the buckeyes touchdown george [Applause] again the key was nikki sue they got great penetration off the corner picked out the contained man eddie george his elusiveness yes he's big but he's been quick and adjusts his body moves he dips up underneath for the touchdown you have to have good block by your tight end to do that as well though so just toss the ball and go outside dip up underneath and not have anybody in your face there's the kick out block by sulua on jason chorik he dipped something underneath and he accelerates for the flag [Applause] so now it's jackson [Applause] do it again first one was block he's been perfect ever since [Music] [Applause] well is this going to be the year for john cooper is he finally going to lead the buckeyes to pasadena and the rose bowl long way to go and a tough trip over to pennsylvania to play the defending champions george says there'll be no penalty here i'll just set it on down in the end zone leave my helmet on go on over and talk to the coach plus when you talk to eddie george he is the kind of kid you probably wouldn't have to have a rule because he i think he's a pretty well balanced guy they hit him in the meadowlands did they coach a boston college said that was a terrible call they should have never put that rule on the books give somebody a lot of things today it's you you fired me up just another subjective decision that's going to cost a hard-working fellow football game someday because someone's going to interpret that rule differently than someone else has all year don't understand it now but now with the ball on the tee that's sure and she he back deep in the huskies need something to ignite a rally they're hanging the helmets over there on that far sideline they're depressed about this 23-7 buckeye lead here in columbus it isn't the husky's personality to hang it for very long though brent see he trying to sprint free to the 25 and down we go to jackaroo jack you're alluding to that anti-celebration rule i had an opportunity to talk to our our head man here today jim chemerling and the one thing that he told us he said look in the big ten we've been instructed by the head of the big ten jim delaney and the head of our officials to make a subjective call but here's the way we decide upon it if we're going to air they want us to air in favor of enforcement of the rule that's a little bit different than what we've seen in the past guys some things that were questionable i asked jim about them in some of the games we've covered he said if i'd been there i would have called it differently from the shotgun heward who prefers this passing formation slips one to his tailback kneel and there is springs you talk about a big time defensive back number 24 the cover corner on that side and he was all over the running back he sprints quickly over to the wide side of the field knowing that the huskies are in a hurry up mode here on second and long high and to coleman who steps out of bounds stopping the clock at the 39-yard line let's see dick only 39 seconds to work with here huskies are going to need a couple of long plays you know and right now the way they're playing defense right there you can hit those deep out in between a rolled up corner and a deep safety playing back there they may come back with the same approach brent change move highfield holding up remember this is his first game as center snapping on the shotgun gets it into huer's hands who slips it down to neal and neal's going nowhere johnson playing his first game at that linebacking spot the coaches thought that he would be able to step up today and he has time out has been called damon was forced to throw the ball much quicker than he wanted to mike brabel beat his uh pass protector underneath and when his end of his face right away i might have to send another letter this week huh yeah he better you got to have that videograph make copies of that apology for running it up is what he better do he might as well send it out before the game backs it just backs it i'm going for the alliance championship and i apologize in advance tennessee 30 to 14. you're calling that one buddy yes sir yes sir i listen to all of that hype all week long the dude fellows were going to go down there it was in the swamp and you couldn't beat them and this and that i said wait a minute i've been looking at the different tennessee team that i've been watching do you think spurriers changed quarterbacks i would guess you like that pay-per-view don't you love it right four games in the within four hours you just put an hour of each yeah well they've been flirting with disaster and finally got it john saunders will tell you how the razorbacks came up with a big one over alabama today because of the reduction in scholarships wherever we travel in college football you will hear it over and over again the age of the dynasty has clearly come to an end and this was janoski who is out of bounds in fact they say that florida state may be the last one down there they've got so much talent they have some great players walk on for the state of florida but coaches will tell you it's just so hard now to load up on talent the toughest penalty against the huskies was the reduction in scholarships you have to be almost dead perfect when you give someone a full scholarship when you lose that many as they did over the last couple of years it has hurt this football team too and now heward this is thomas the fullback he's out of bounds stops the clock with 21 ticks on that clock left they're doing a real good job of nickel and dime in that real loose zone coverage brand but getting back to what you're talking about the other thing that hurts that limit in scholarship it's like we just had the graphic a little while ago the four real fine football players that ohio state lost to the nfl that could be playing today that was good recruiting almost too good the guys were so good they leave early second down and the right tackle moves yeah pull the foot back and that'll cost the huskies here just as they're attempting to get something going in the last 30 seconds and that's another penalty my gosh that's a lot of yellow hankies against the huskies in the shotgun you know with the quarterback back further like that crowd noise and everything it makes it a little tougher for that tackle to hear the snap and they're actually using a technique with the offensive guard watching the ball the guard holding the tackle's hand and when he drops his hand the tackle knows the ball snaps and they've been working on that all week in preparation for coming and playing in this big horseshoe they've been penalized eight times false start honey offense 79 yards reset the clock 21 seconds eight to one so the ball is brought back to the 47-yard line and now heward steps up takes off he's gonna go to the sideline he'll slide down well that'll stop the clock because he got a first down so they can hurry up right now with 13 seconds to go they have the two timeouts left but that took a lot of time you were talking about the fact that scholarships have put parity back in football the reduction in the money remember that the university of washington is coming off of two years of probation and they say well the scholarships isn't what bothered them but consider this is the fact that they say they had to deal with far worse being kept out of ball games meant that they weren't allowed to practice after the last game of the season he said when you're playing against a caliber of teams that we play against to go to bowls every year that puts our entire program back behind the eight ball so to speak by as many as 30 practices more practices more reps in the case of washington they feel they're almost a month behind their peers especially when you look at that schedule jack six bowl games they've teams from last year they're playing this year let me see if this was not a late hit on uh was hugher down here right now he slides safely before he got hit yeah i think uh yeah oh yeah he grabbed the face mask right there was miller yeah definitely the face mask that's 15 yards all the way definitely no wonder jim lambright was so upset ryan knows better than that he's a much smarter football player a pre-med student he got away with it six opponents that were in bowl games last season given up a lot of practice days don't smile at him jim bight is here well the ball is at the bucks 35 yard line 13 seconds to go three wide receivers now and heward penalty flags all over and there is gonna be a holding call [Applause] a little problem inside i might have called out on trevor highfield converted center in there now the one huge difference that i see in this washington team from the one that stormed into the orange bowl is the fact that the offensive line was starting to dominate in the first half in that game they were doing a job sap had a great start as you recall but they weren't holding calls they didn't have the calls no question but but you know they actually started running the ball real well here in the first quarter and i think if they come out in the second half and get back to what they were doing real well that cut back play which ohio state never did stop they'll move the football and get back in the ball game but they have to play better defense more pressure coming off the corner how much of this is attributable to the fact that they had to alter three positions in that offensive line when they lost the center no way can help you absolutely no way can help you and if it can't help you what you do it hurts you so highfield moved in there to the center snapping for the first time causes two other changes now viewer down the middle and complete to the 18-yard line timeout conwell and time runs out no time left or they could have attempted a quick field goal into the half 23-7 buckeyes young saunders next on abc [Music] [Applause] [Music] the buckeye marching band here at halftime delighting the crowd 90-some thousand the buckeyes lead washington it's 23-7 at the half let's send you to new york john saunders the prudential halftime report brought to you by the prudential when you face the most important financial decisions of your life turn to the prudential peace of mind it comes with every piece of the rock from our new york studios your host john saunders welcome back we hope you enjoyed the first half in the second half of straight ahead but right now time for scores and highlights beginning with nebraska a very troubled program it's been a difficult week for tom osborne we'll hear from him later on during the prudential halftime report tommy frazier though banged up last week two touchdown passes two on the ground clinton childs who is replacing phillips and benning the players who were in trouble earlier this week 12 carries 143 yards and two touchdowns texas a m corey pulley had a great day 57 yards to another guy who had a great day leland mcelroy it's a 57-yard touchdown pass but guess who does most of the work lightning or electric whatever you want to call them mcilroy leland takes this one in 52-9 is the final texas a m gets the win and take a look at leland mcelroy 23 carries 116 yards three touchdowns four receptions for 128 more yards and a touchdown a terrific day tennessee against florida in this one peyton manning having a great day 20 yards to marcus nash danny warfell who had a touchdown pass struggles here coughs up the ball raymond austin recovers and then he takes off for the touchdown as tennessee opens up a 30 to 14 lead at the swamp a place they haven't won since 1971 florida coming back now it's 30 to 21 at halftime danny warfell as i mentioned has a touchdown pass in this one northeast louisiana no match for colorado 59-14 the score it's moved to the fourth quarter coy detmer with four touchdown passes washington and ohio state washington jumped into a big lead last year this time it's the other way around bobby hoyt 22 yards to nikki sualua and he's under pressure too as he throws this one gets to the corner of the end zone they miss the point after so it's six nothing then eddie george terrific running back good cut there and then the good speed into the corner 23-7 at that point and that's where it stands now at halftime bobby hoing is thrown for a couple of touchdowns oregon and ucla did you believe in them last year well oregon is certainly making a believer out of everyone this year graziani has thrown for a touchdown rob walker 41 yard touchdown pass for ucla in this game but most of it belonged to oregon in the ducks 24 to 10 was the score that's where it stands now at halftime smu up against oklahoma and this one you might expect not as close a game as this one has been 24-10 the sooners right now leading this one in the fourth quarter allen has a seven yard touchdown run and alexander has three field goals pittsburgh against texas pittsburgh a team that thus far is surprising a few people and right now giving texas all they can handle 14 to 10 texas has the lead and pit let's wrote much of the first half of this game sean mitchell with a 19-yard touchdown run georgia tech beaten up by virginia 41-14 tv barber 17 carries 105 yards and four touchdowns colorado state and air force 7-7 is the score of this one at halftime notre dame without coach lou holtz he of course as you know had the surgery on his final quarter earlier this week rob davey is the interim head coach well no problem 34-nothing is the lead now in the fourth quarter randy kinder has a six yard touchdown run and miami of ohio knocks off northwestern 30 to 28 is the final northwestern fumbled on their own one with few seconds remaining in the game and it allowed miami to kick the game-winning field goal 30-28 was the final in this one all right we will continue with more in just a moment right now let's listen to some of the bands from around the country including the ohio state buckeye marching band as we look at scores first from the ivy league penn continues to win they haven't lost in three years now 20 to 12 the lead there in columbia over harford harvard rather right now 28-24 [Music] still to come we've mentioned the problems of nebraska when we come back we will hear from coach tom osborne i had an agreement and when the agreement wasn't kept and then the suspension was automatic and welcome back once again to the prudential halftime report i'm john saunders we'll get you back to the second half of your game in just a moment but first time for scores and highlights right now the number one team in the nation florida state leaving no doubt that they are the best squad in the country at least as far as piling up the score because they did it again today danny cannell 24 yards here to andre cooper 21-7 was the lead over nc state at that point and work done what a year he's had averaging about 15 yards of carry coming in busts through the middle and then the foot speed takes off 35-7 77-17 the final the most points ever scored by a seminole team breaking record set back in 1985. they've outscored opponents this year 192-65 all acc teams and danny canal today 28-32 310 yards and five touchdowns work done 101 yards and he had a touchdown on the ground and two through the air penn state also rolling it up 66-14 they blow up temple wally richardson who struggled in his debut at three touchdown passes it was 18-26 for 19 yards three touchdown passes with just one interception curtis ennis 14 carries 132 yards and three touchdowns arkansas against alabama well the razorbacks were poised and ready for the upset brian bergdorff though goes 41 yards here to curtis brown 17 to 10 was the lead but fourth and goal at the alabama three barry lunny three yards is j.j meadors does he make the catch very lonely thinks he does and he did indeed was not trapped 20 to 19 was the final there so after surviving scares against vanderbilt and southern miss alabama takes the loss arizona facing illinois in this one you would expect it would be a game of defense that's exactly what it was it was also a game of memorial because as you know last week one of the arizona players damon sorrell passed away today was his funeral and coach diptomy was not at the game he was at the funeral so the defense goes to work dan white is sacked by simeon rice for illinois and then dan white again going to the pass to kevin schmidtke this ball is fumbled and 53 yards is the return by david james illinois leads it nine to seven illinois wins it nine to seven is the final there and simeon rice the story once again three and a half sacks in the game 39 and a half on his career and that is a big ten record he also had 10 tackles as well new mexico state beaten by georgia 40-13 the final phillip daniels a 21-yard interception return for a touchdown mike bobo with 16 of 23 for 270 yards and two touchdowns kentucky over indiana kentucky ends rather a 12-game losing streak as they knock off indiana out of the big ten cincinnati shuts out virginia tech 16 to nothing there brad jackson 71 yard interception return for a touchdown iowa over iowa state 27-10 cedric shaw his second consecutive game over 100 yards and michigan state beats louisville 28-7 ron cooper 30-7 is the final in this game and ron cooper picks up his first loss as coach as most of you know defending national champion nebraska has been rocked by scandal this week heisman trophy candidate lawrence phillips and his backup damon benning both charged with assault in separate incidents against women joining two other players who ran afoul with the law now earlier this week coach tom osborne explained why phillips was dismissed from the team while the others remain indicating there was more to this story than most of us know lawrence and i had an agreement and when the agreement wasn't kept and then the suspension was automatic so there wasn't any it was it was kind of like going for two points in orange bowl ten years ago something that you just do out of reflex and players are human and and lauren's been under a lot of pressure and uh you know it and he said he just he just flat lost it and and i guess for a lot of people when that happens that this doesn't happen so publicly phillips back up damon benning remains with the team and has pleaded innocent as has riley washington who can practice but not play well damon benning you know i'd be amazed if all the charges aren't dropped against him i don't think anything happened there that wasn't fairly honorable as far as he was concerned and riley washington i'm i'm very convinced of his innocence as for phillips osborne hasn't ruled out a possible return he's concerned for his well-being but discipline comes first he and i had things pretty well mapped out and so he knew he knew what the what the ground rules were so the suspension was was not anything that was even anything that was debatable as far as his return to the team certain things would have to happen that where i was perfectly satisfied that that he had made some significant changes in his life before he would come back he's still in school and and he's had some chances i i know that there have been agents calling him and people that would give him quick and easy money all he has to do is take the money leave town but he says right now that what he would like to do is try to try to face this thing down and he knows he made a mistake and would like to like to try to play some more football here if he can and we of course will continue to follow that story as well as nebraska on the field eddie robinson meanwhile goes for a career win number 399 tonight against hampton back in a moment one of the great traditions at ohio state dot the eye dr gordon gee the president of the university along with his new bride there constance wonderful moment for him the alumni band is on the field welcome back everybody with dick for me i'm brad mosberger uh dick i want to take everybody back to last year when they met it's a different setting it was out in seattle and there was a fellow there who's playing on sunday afternoon and he really dominated the game take a look here well actually they were running the same type of cutback play in the first quarter you know they have over 100 yards rushing in the first quarter they got to go back to that same kind of running it's not napoleon but neil has done a real good job with the same type of running action here is the key play eddie george on fourth and 11th this is a fake field goal lawyer malloy argued that he was down on the dive folks it is close but they got the spot they got the first down and from there the bucks rolled and eddie george has really given the ball to eddie comes off tackle got a great block and nobody around him so everybody's knocked down he takes it in for the score well over 140 yards rushing in the first half alone for eddie george so we're ready now with the second half kickoff 23-7 bucks leading the huskies i suppose if there's one statistic you're a washington fan out in seattle the one statistic you want to hear and you want to do something about is the fact that it's 96 yards and penalties against the huskies and only eight is that right against the buckeyes that is right taking a look at the halftime numbers you can see how ohio state really came on in that second quarter and dominated time of possession really took it over there offense pretty even total yards what the big thing is washington has not forced ohio state to punt the football since the very first possession in the football game they've got to come up and play defense and get back into what they are running real well in the first game if they do those two things they'll be back in the game the short or blocky man picks it up for the huskies and they will have a first down the 32-yard line that was mike reed a fullback bring it up jackaroot what's the mood of our two coaches you guys might talk about eddie george but all john cooper wanted to talk about was that big fullback nikki salua he says hey his play is what's broken george out in fact he said we're not going to make any changes i'm just so pleased with the way that fullback's coming into the game meanwhile i talked to jim lambright when he came out onto the field and he said my biggest concern the penalties he said i can't get my kids to understand that they just got to wash it out of their head and play the game the way the big ten wants to call let's see what happens here with neil set behind heward slipping through for a couple of yards out to the 36 yard line and dick sue lua when we came in here the coaches i don't think expected this kind of an explosion they weren't sure that he was ready to take over that pullback oh he actually considered quitting football here pre-season and really didn't get really back into it you know he's from southern california modern day high school it's a long ways from home and he just wasn't into it but today he's blocking as well as any pullback we've seen in a long time four down lineman ravel and fincus 92 and 94 the book in and coming through that time was number 94 vrabel on the play as heward snapped off a completion and a first down hitting conwell is tight end well gregel set a school record last year sacking the quarterback 12 times so he knows where he is he's a pressure guy he gets after him he's also a very bright guy academic all big ten making him pre-med it's probably the smartest defensive front we'll see all year of the seven front guys only one of them is less than a 3.0 or better vrable goes to the tight end side and he is matched against conwell now which is the huskies right side of the offense this time neal with daylight neal breaks it 35 to the 32-yard line and springs the defensive back makes the stop richard thomas the fullback for the huskies is also an outstanding blocker we've seen him do in the past this time a little different than an isolation block he gets a seal blocked he'll be right here he'll be right here as he goes around and seals the corner out follow thomas he seals it back to the inside right there knocked him down loud kneel to get up inside good job see this kid can run they've got to do what they did best in that first quarter opening drive is an impressive one to this moment see they changed the formation too they went to a slot with a wing away to try to balance up that defense heward rolling now finkus giving pursuit and heward makes his way back to the 36-yard line that's still going to be a loss of about four yards on the play it was fingus who got off the block pickle making the stop vince vincus pickle and frable they are the down four that give everybody fits fingers was a pressure guy last year 20 tackles behind the line of scrimmage equalling a tie for the school record grant these two kids get in that defense that offensive backfield second and 14 is they created some mayhem [Applause] now neal the lone running back sure is off to heward's right heward's looking pump fake gonna send him deep one on one double team rotates over incomplete kelly was coming to help out on springs they wanted springs to fight on the pump fake that time there was real good contact right there i was looking for a flag but evidently the ball was not in the air yet but there was really obvious contact a little out and up try to move get him to bound on that pump flake he didn't bite springs very aggressive and the husky coaches trying to take advantage of that but it has left washington in a third and 14. they got a bunch to keep this drive alive right now the buckeyes really don't play a nickel defense it looks like they're lined up for a pressure defense no they just bluff it they go off three deep zones bravo beating his block but he drills it to the fullback thomas who is just short let's see what are going to mark it right at the first down marker so the huskies do not get the first down they're going to be less than a yard short it is going to be fourth and short and remember the first half george got the favorable spot off the fake field goal well they've got to go for it here obvious down like they are right now 23-7 this is critical drive if they could take it on in get it going get their chins back up and get back to playing husky defense the buckeyes just dominated them off tackle in that second quarter we could why now they are going to give it to him and the crowd here the horseshoe upset but i'll tell you it was over there on the husky bench and you know what folks it's even if you're the loyalist of ohio state fans it's about time he's got at least one point jim you were due for a good one look at him he's not too excited about it shotgun pass to the right side of your screen lays it off good pass protection slides outside thomas is going for it oh that baby was close too but it's a first down now for the 23. pinkus was all over it on the inside he just blasted to the blocker back into that backfield and made the stop and helping out was johnson number 52 who is starting to come on as a linebacker like the coaches expected here see they ran a crash stunt they lined up the defensive outside and brought him down underneath the offensive tackle unless you're zone blocking and get help from your guard that's a real problem for the big offensive tackle the cutback running has been better than the direct lead running they should go back to it now the field side receiver is coleman and springs is looking in on him as heward makes a change up at the line howard comes up bumping around on janoski hewitt keeps it off that option fake and he is out of bounds on the far side at the 25-yard line bella sorry the middle linebacker number 30 in pursuit what they saw was the bear front they covered everybody over the middle they didn't want to run inside so a audible to the option now the buckeye defense knew this is what they would audible to and they said they were gonna force the quarterback to keep the ball the lesser of the runner of the two see and they go ahead and tackle him rather than allowing him to pitch it or forcing him to pitch it to the faster tailback it has been third and thirteen heward has been looking to a left he's been trying to keep it away from the field of the spring side howard is the defensive back he's up very tight now he backs off loosens up to the 19-yard line fewer they'll go light this time if he gets it off trouble breaks out kessie tries to throw a block stewart with a good move before buckeyes recover buckeyes recover the heward fumble and they have the ball on their own seven yard line johnson recovers a great effort by damon hewitt they went to a double zone took away his pattern he wanted to get the ball to tight end down the hole they covered that he scrambled out of the pressure did a real nice job of running the football they got pressure up inside for fingers they stun around the outside they pick up the stunt he slides up inside now he just rallies and becomes a ball carrier not known for his running ability but doing a great job really competing to try to get his club back in there now he gets it stripped and knocked out right there the ball's on the turf tough tough break for damon eward and a great effort on his part in their opener three weeks ago the buckeyes drove 99 yards and broke boston college let's see what happens here the huskies know they have to stand a little taller on defense 27 has been eating them up in excess of 150 yards off the top suite jumps one and this time he is slammed daliaga is coming up there with jensen on that toss see they made him commit inside right now and incaliaga the second team all pac-10 linebacker from last year scraped inside out and made the play he's a real good football player and he didn't get to play in this game last year because he was coming off an injury but he's playing today and made a nice play so they put the bucks in second down and eight and i'm sure the huskies are well aware of what the bucks did in a critical third down when they were coming out with that swing pass that was wide open to george the huskies are playing a bear defense on him now and then shifting out of it trying to get him to audible play fake owing on the run fires and it is complete to glenn out to the 22-yard line and a first down they go one-on-one against reserve that's the second time in this ball game in a second-long situation they have made the action fake inside and come outside on the corner against the 101 and he throws the beautiful strike tough the defense at if you allow the quarterback to get outside cleanly like that [Music] here's the action fake i'm talking about now that freezes linebackers inside but he doesn't set up he keeps on coming he gets his shoulders squirted around takes a little hit from jerry jensen there but too late [Applause] now with the first down and again that late shift up front and eight man front they overloaded and aliaga will clean up on george that time at the 19-yard line so george for the loss of a few yards great job by deke devers 43 he's not the biggest defensive lineman at that 6-2-2-45 but he's very quick and he did a good job of getting penetration when he tried to cut back he was in the cut back lane nice job deep beavers number 43 in this defense you know i like these purple helmets you know that they switch that color brent i look down there and see that purple 1974 was the last time they wore them jim owens was a coach with my fanny up there in that stadium too i'll tell you that they beat on a few up there in the seattle coach pretty good at home these huskies now hoin protective pocket holes and tillman tillman to the 33-yard line and it looks like it should be another ohio state first down will be close they gave him a cover two zone look and then went to a robber he read it and went right to the right man now see it shows it too deep right here but then they don't go too deep he comes into a robber he comes in and gets in the zone did a nice job good read by the quarterback excellent pass protection gosh brad i think it's 59 i could throw that one with that kind of protection oh he was back there beautifully in that protective pocket wasn't he yes he was strong now to the left side and tonight george is behind sewell they play fake it and hoing will go glenn and he is inside the 45-yard line working on ikea malloy number 20 on that side got him one on one and glenn with that great burst for 21 yards this is a very difficult pattern to cover at any level college or pro when you take the outside receiver in a slot take the outside guy run him inside and take the slot man pillow trouble here and run him up the outside telestrator not working perfectly there but you'll see what i'm talking about post pattern outside out and up by the slot man they turn him loose the ball is throwing just a little bit to the outside if his thrown in front of him he's still running when fred puggage told me that glenn is the finest receiver he's ever seen here at ohio state that is saying a lot and george is coming on as a tailback and the buckeyes are again impressive they were very impressive in beating boston college in the meadowlands in their opener and they have come on strong here again leading washington 23-7 and stamping them as perhaps the team to beat in the big ten i hesitate only because penn state gets to play the buckeyes over there at penn state and remember they put 63 on the board against the bucks a year ago that's worth remembering now it is second down for hoing and the buckeyes who have marched out from their own eight yard line stanley's the motion man sure to the increase in the left side behind dudley for the 32 you know dudley a pretty good college basketball player here at ohio state but dick you think his future very definitely isn't pro football and i remember you telling me that all the scouts say when you talk to him where are the tight ends where are the tight ends and they say they're in the nba yeah that's right and he you know he's a fine basketball player but actually he's going to be an nfl tight end well that was good for northwestern that wakes him up before the drive to the rose bowl you know we were raving about the blocking of nikki sua lua brent and at that time jerry jensen who was getting blocked early that time really took him on and did a nice job so he adjusted a little bit at halftime got his pads down and met him deeper into the hole another third down maybe they'll give sualiu a chance to carry it go with the main man and he is taken on right at the point of attack by jensen battle back but his forward progress will be marked down there we'll see if they give the bucks the first down jensen's a very very good linebacker teamed inside with ink aliaga by the end of the year that pair is going to be as good i think probably as any pac-10 linebacker pair they make plays they need a little more pressure off the corner especially when ohio state is in that split back flip back formation running that sweet play they got to get somebody in the face of that play quickly well they're coming out now to measure this to see if it's a first down [Music] made it let's take a look at dudley as a hoop star here yeah he can play a little bit he averaged 13 points this last year that's not too bad take over here dick i know there he goes yeah you know 13 points and he's played all the time and now he has no more eligibility left in basketball and he can concentrate on football it's a man's game [Laughter] oh baby 13.3 points a game and 7.5 rebounds [Applause] now it is first and ten for the bucks after the change he's got glenn off to his left it is jensen who buried him at the 39-yard line with that sack boy you cannot turn a linebacker loose like that inside that's a mental mistake when a guy gets in there that clean brent somebody obviously blew the protection top of your screen 40 will flash jensen will flash in there come to the outside see there's four guys if there's four guys on that side he either throws it out to a hot receiver or he gets tackled too many guys rushing on that side daniels and golston dick number 50 golston who has replaced corey stringer any impressions of him down there as the right tackle well i tell you it's hard defaulting for anything they've been moving the ball so well you know he's an acting young man and i think in years to come is going to be a fine typical ohio state tackle [Applause] completely glenn who is out of bounds with reiser in pursuit at the 28-yard line what a slick-looking receiver number 83 is get ready for some explosions by this man he's the fastest man on the team here he is no parents his high school coach helped raise him they got him going he gets a football scholarship but it's going to turn around his whole life he's doing a good job in the classroom right now and my gosh we salute you young man the odds were not in his favor brent well i'm going to tell you he had some academic problems and he joined the team late in seattle a year ago and since making up that class he's been a three-point student here in columbus making the most of his opportunity which is nice to hear from the young man number eight corner blitz reddit behind tillman in complete perish was covering number 12. that is really tough they run the corner blitz boy that's tough on the quarterback but with the experience and good coaching that bobby hoing gets he saw it he tried to throw to the hot receiver just didn't throw it accurately dick i've got a question about the husky defense when we saw them in miami i thought number nine for jim lambreit lawyer malloy made bigger plays he's been rather quiet out there today he has been quiet i'll tell you he's also got caught in the wash they've had a lot of people blocked so soundly as he moved inside out in the play he had to go around a pile of defenders getting knocked off the line of scrimmage brent i think that's part of it so with this fourth and sixth the buckeyes elect to use one of their timeouts this is a huge play coming up here for the huskies it's 23-7 and they trail the bucks [Music] horseshoe columbus ohio it's the buckeyes and the washington huskies ohio state leads it 23-7 6-19 left in the third they are passing up a 45-yard field goal attempt instead on fourth and sixth they're going to go with sualua as the lone running back sends dudley out and hit the tight end dudley makes a nice stop at short of the first down huskies take over on downs that's a big miss by the buck it is a big miss and i really think from here anyway it looked like bobby hoing came off the slant pattern by buster tillman 17 on the outside much too quick and took the short pass way too soon in progression well we'll take a break but the huskies have got a life and cooper's not happy about it [Music] a tradition like none other the horseshoe and jackaroot climbs to the top to take care of our favorite security guard jack it's chili's time yeah i just you know every week every time we come here i gotta check with the policemen up here how's it going oh it's cold it's cold well i didn't bring you a coat but i brought you some baby back ribs from chili's grill and bar you know they're one of our sponsors oh lucky me there you go have a good time oh hey wait a minute can i can i i need the receipt okay is that okay thanks [Applause] oh baby all right let's make it first down [Applause] and the huskies pounded off the right side with neal the ball carrier dr gay has dropped by the booth here doctor it was great you got in the eye as well as anybody was safe [Laughter] how come you didn't do a flip and in case i think the other thing i was concerned i was going to adopt to you and embarrassing you doctor thank you very much thank you i want to tell you ladies and gentlemen he cut a promo for the upcoming notre dame ohio state game don't miss it it's now second down for washington neal the running back and heward fires diving janoski's got it that's the first down washington pass complete i'm impressed with damon eward i think he has grown up a lot since the last time we saw him play brent he's doing a good job the fumble hurt him on that great scramble play but i really think to the to this point he's done a good job ucla creeping up on the ducks there well we'll be headed out to pullman that was a great stop can't wait to get there absolutely we see coach price and those cougars they'll they'll bring a few blitzers next week and here speaking of blitzers ohio state coming [Applause] good call bill young defensive coordinator you know linebacker can't make that kind of play unless the line but the coordinator calls the linebacker blitz and they called it at the right time and nailed it bill young's done a great job of coordinating this defense over the years they've just gotten better and better and now he says this year they're not trying to do anything different just trying to do everything better [Music] second down and seven for heward and the huskies oh iowa state 23 washington seven huskies with a slot formation and it's coleman to the left two tight ends are to the right for a little more muscle and humor in a swing looks deeper downfield yard line and what he wanted one-on-one with howard freddie coleman just to stop for his senior year he'd make that catch brent he's got to make that play especially in a game like this down the hole one-on-one coverage no safety help it's down here the right-hand corner of your screen it goes right through his arms not deflected in any way well maybe howard got a hand in there let's give ty a little credit on that one it was real close now as janoski checks back in decision also out there huskies gambling on the big play this is third and seven now 4 27 to go in the third showing glitch and backs it out but there is a flag let's see did they take too much time or do they cause someone to move let's hold on here [Applause] and it goes against the huskies another critical penalty and john saunders what's up with the gators down in the swamp and there is a great one in the sec at the swamp tennessee and florida third and four on the sixth danny werfel six yards to ike hilliard third time they've hooked up in this game and right now tennessee's lead is just two 30-28 brent all right john pressure on peyton manning now he needs to rally the volunteers here the huskies have been penalized 10 times for 101 yards here today they're killing themselves heward is now back middle incomplete janoski was open and he overthrew him just a bit didn't have to punt it away they did an awfully good job of picking up the stunts in the defensive line that time but by the offensive lineman they did a real good job but he just like you said brian he just got the ball up a little too high and overthrew the thing you bet your minus one offensive player in that situation jeff prince will punt it and terry glenn out of columbus ohio set to return it standing back on the bucks 16-yard line here comes they have turned it over right there as kelly pounces on it at the 16-yard line cleland was the deep snapper the buckeyes were well aware that washington was having center snap problems on field goals and punts punter did not have a chance it wasn't over his head his way off to his left side he didn't have a chance he starts running over there to try to field it but he just couldn't get to it real good heads up played by the buckeyes they had pressure coming many times you've seen a ball like this and no pressure this time they have pressure and that's a real good play by robbie kelly the strong safety and has changed with the bucks this year they're not using underclassmen who don't play the special teams are manned by a whole lot of defensive starters this year and that's what kelly is and he was able to come in and make the play now let's see if hoyne and the bucks can finish it off here's george daylight george touchdown ohio state [Applause] too many horses at the point of attack [Applause] will you give this big horse that much room with no purple helmets tattooing him early he's going to put it in the end zone they give it to him deep no blue jerseys no blue helmets good stiff arm there's malloy we wondered where he was he just took it in the mush good straight arm right there [Applause] 75 yards on the day for eddie george two touchdowns [Applause] and jackson says missing his first extra point has been perfect how impressive is this buckeyes 30 washington 7. not a bad afternoon for george here in buckeye land and some of those flickers breaking out there's a forecast for some heavy rain late this afternoon here in the columbus area has held off so far but we got a brisk breeze blowing in from the open end of the shoe melt that'll send it down he will take a knee some very discouraged huskies right now but looking down on the scene the old goodyear blimp hovering overhead with that camera focused on the event you get a very special perspective of the game from that view up there the goodyear blend spirit based in akron ohio providing us with that wonderful view well they may be taking a few folks apart this year these buckeyes a little surgery going on but a very tough road ahead rabel and finkus again down at the defensive end skewered up at quarterback [Applause] thomas the pullback to the slot eward receivers covered now he's hit on the release and complete to kneel howard was down there along with gwen at the 49-yard line that's a headache by both people brent just hey you can hear it all the way up they had a helmet to helmet ty howard you're a tough young man but there's got to be a better way to hit [Music] anthony [Music] near midfield holman slotted this time springs is over to the field side heward checking in that direction and ficus was hanging on so he releases it and they take a loss but fingers was draped all over heward if it's not 92 it's 94 or vice versa one or the other they are all over you well you can see why matt finkus was first team all big ten last year brad he's given bob sapp all he can handle when this game's over bob sapp will be a better pass protector by next week because he is forced to go to his maximum ability to block this young man [Applause] garnett now into the defensive line for the buckeyes and he is one of the defensive tackles oh thomas the fullback drops it at the 45. he wanted to run with the ball before he cut it and right now at 6 eastern time we'd like to pause five seconds to allow our abc stations to identify themselves this is wsyx channel six columbus [Applause] with dick vermeel and jackaroot i'm brett westberger 236 to go here in the third quarter ohio state leading washington 30-7 [Applause] the buckeyes struck first missed an extra point and briefly washington led it 7-6 since then ohio state has dominated washington on a nice drive to start the second half but they fumble going in at the buckeye eight-yard line thomas the fullback holds on at the 45-yard line john saunders with an update in new york john bryan once again it's tennessee in florida and this time it's danny warfield to ike hilliard have we said that before perhaps four times that's hillyard's fourth touchdown reception tying a school record they missed the two-point conversion brent steve spurrier is never out of a football game is he the things he does with that passing game he drives them all crazy and hilliard a big time wide receiver down in the swamp now fourth down and so they will attempt to get a good snap this time different snaps a little bit low and springs will let this one roll dead at the 12 yard line now we mentioned the ohio state schedule take a look at it next week at pittsburgh the fighting irish didn't come in here on september 30th then on october 7th into penn state up to madison to play wisconsin purdue and iowa come in it's up to minnesota illinois comes in with simeon rice indiana on the 18th and finally add-on arbor so they still must play at penn state and at michigan before the season is over if ohio state should happen to run the table oh will they deserve a top ranking then that is some schedule they face first down for the buckeyes point brings them up and george being given a rest as pierson replaces him malloy number 20. malloy he played rover against arizona state when parish was out now he's playing that linebacking spot and dick your observation may cause them concerned he's a little bit small to be at that linebacking spot well they the way they play these guys widen to the outside you can get by with a smaller quicker type guy where they're really getting hurt is the next guy to the inside you know at 240 ending up on a tackle or a big tight end they're getting blocked [Music] pearson pounded again and hit by a host of fellas including number nine lawyer malloy well we wondered where lawyer lawyer malloy has been well two plays in a row he's been up there doing what he does best making plays against the run they move him all around in that safety position he's not always deep in the hole see he's up close to the line of scrimmage right there gonna fill inside out he doesn't miss many tackles boom he gets in it he gets help from a lot of other purple helmets but he makes a lot of plays one of the fine defensive players in the country right now bobby hoyne and the bucks break the huddle the 23-yard line is where they must go for a first down [Music] and he's got it miller makes the reception at the 30-yard line and in talking to bobby hoyne we asked him what's left for him to reach here at ohio state what goal has he not yet attained well it's definitely the rose bowl um you know the quarterbacks from ohio state are all recognized on on the rose bowl teams you know rex current arts easter and uh and hopefully at the end of the year they'll be saying bobby hoing but you know when they talk about past teams it's always the quarterback we took that team there and hoyne is trying to do just that this year [Music] offensive line holds up goes deep right side wanted glenn and reese was right with him step by step glenn complaining just a little bit about the bumping that was going on you know these guys are going to be really if they don't get anybody hurt they're going to be have a real shot at the rose bowl much more so than i think any year that we've seen them brent since we've been doing these games really that offensive line is so solid the only inexperienced player is ghostmen at the right tackle spot they just wear you down physically and they have you know the five real talented players on offense if the defense can hold up and nobody can get hurt nobody gets hurt they're gonna be right in the thick of it probably all the way down to the michigan game talk to me about their center porter he's been doing a good job second down at 10. porter snaps it to hoing and that time smith they were setting the screen they let him through and pierson is out to the 36 yard line they were taking advantage of smith's great speed on the inside they released him that time and now that will leave them with four yards to go for a first down pearson turned back away from her screen wall if he just stays with his screen wall it's an effective play but he cut back and that's what sometimes kids do coming off the bench that aren't really in the rhythm of the game they get too excited too nervous and they don't make the right moves he made the wrong rules into three quarters and we'll return with more between washington ohio state after this message award from our abc stations there's our college football lineup at abc next saturday at 3 30 eastern time these bucks go up to pittsburgh texas a m with the big one of colorado michigan state plays purdue ucla and washington state and mississippi state will play tennessee so check your local listing see what's on in your area it's 30 to seven buckeyes with a lead here and it's third and four now bobby hoynes gonna hoof it first down midfield [Music] [Applause] well i'm supposed to send it to john saunders but i don't want it oh i'm kidding john take it away big fella what do you got well brent i understand why you don't want to see this and i hate to break your heart miami of ohio and northwestern the bad snap here through paul burton's legs recovered by jeff cheeks and it sets up the game-winning field goal as miami of ohio out of the mac knocks off northwestern they'll leave the top 25 brent john just remember that the wildcats were keeping their focus on the rose bowl today and not the national championship first and ten now the ball is at midfield for the buckeyes good defense that defense that time good keeping jumped all over the running back coach didn't give him a chance to get through there at all we have some backup offensive linemen in there right now too given some starters a little greater here we look at the numbers game being totally dominated by osu here over eight minutes in time of possession the turnover factor here is critical and remember that bad snap on or something picked off by davis not a good thing to do when you've got that kind of a lead the point i was making with the play broke was that this bad snap on the punt is equivalent to a turnover now we get another turnover going the other way the movement in the defense they handle the rush good it's a quick short stop he just doesn't see the inside out player right there it's davis reggie davis 23 steals it huskies with a chance when we come back the final 15 minutes the horseshoe columbus ohio the buckeyes leading the washington huskies 30-7 and courtney has checked in at quarterback and let me tell you about this young man having watched him yesterday in practice he's a fine looking runner in fact he was a 400 meter man when he was back in high school he can also throw it a bit he has sheehy as a running back and putney on first down takes it to the end zone and incomplete boy you talk about real nice coverage what a good corner shawn springs in we've talked about it brent but you see that he just coached in covering the guy no challenge for sean springs no wonder everybody around here is raving about him but this young guy has great movement change courtney as you said a district champion in the 400 meters last year he played in eight games all on special teams his father was a basketball player in eastern montana in billings and shane fortney now with a chance to see if he can move the ball club rachel blitz against him good blocking receiver covered now steps to the right fires complete touchdown washington coleman and they were working against the first string defensive backfield of the buckeyes there have been a couple of substitutions in the defensive line but that's a 31 yard strike and folks that was impressive it really was because he threw that ball just flat it wasn't a ball where he put air underneath it coleman 22 right side of your screen working up underneath the zone now he gets on the safety he looks back he sees the scramble situation he goes deep puts his hand now he's on the strong safety kelly right there but that ball was thrown on a line drive i mean that was a zipper now they'll go for two [Applause] and just like that off the hoing interception the backup quarterback strikes for the huskies movement on the defensive line thomas batters and he's going to be stood up at the 2 yard line nothing doing so it's 30 to 13. as the buckeye defensive wall holds down there on the two-point try but the huskies not quite yet dead and you gotta wonder if they'll try an on-side kick here immediately in the fourth quarter we'll find out when we come back i see the good hands people for the buckeyes are getting ready [Music] [Applause] monday night on abc it's the pittsburgh steelers traveling down to miami to play the dolphins kickoff at nine eastern time danny mourinho with the unbeaten dolphins coming in to face the unbeaten steelers we're on the road mike thompson [Music] taking over and now let's see what happens here with wales kicking it off what they elect to do buckeyes are back beat and they'll take a deep oh it is spring very dangerous they turning back on the inside still he gets to the 30-yard line and we check in right now with john saw this john [Applause] brent ucla is a banged up team and a guy who's had some knee trouble is skip hicks this is his first carry of the year and he makes the most of it watch this punishing tacklers and then to the end zone for the touchdown 52 yards the game is now tied at 24 apiece brent the bruins right back in that one yeah that's a dandy and we see that there's an injured buckeye player you know he's a guy that they recruited a few years ago dave becker and he went into the major league baseball actually into the toronto blue jays chain and then finally gave a baseball and decided to come back here and be a linebacker they expect good things from him have a real good training staff here led by bill davison doug collin and mike boardner they know what they're doing well now would you be surprised if number 27 brought it back out there folks i would be surprised well don't be coach because he's in that huddle no chances now they had a lot of second unit guys in there obviously cooper not playing up to the you got to score a lot of points to get the votes from the voters for my number you move up in the polls because of the big 10's affiliation with the rose bowl doesn't affect him as much [Applause] so let's hope that pecker will be all right you can see demetrius stanley points in the huddle and eddie george into the buckeye backfield [Applause] miller is the wide receiver to the left suddenly the tight end and stanley goes in motion and he'll see if george can control the clock a little bit jitterbugs around and the huskies were ready aliaga led the defenders that time i know you know you were talking about sualua that he doesn't really enjoy school and he's not really thrilled about football with all that practice and all that but the one thing he loved it was block and eat he likes to eat but he i mean he could really block that tank ken look at him 265 pound fullback of course he's really a guard just moved back second down now the huskies are going to try to hold here on this series get the ball back as quickly as they can shifting in that defensive front but that buckeye offensive line has held tough george coming into the crease could not swing free malloy this was the kika number 20. the husky's defense jumps around a lot and then they jumped to a spot and stunt that time they almost stunted right out of the plate the nose guard looped around they let him run around and they cut right back where he was originally lined up i'll show you what i'm talking about right here here's rob provided her he'll stun around like this and it opens up a hole and the running back finds it bang they cut off the stun there's the hole up inside and he finds it good thing he had some buddies okay folks follow mr vermeel it's third and short it's search and destroy the buckeye full back couldn't clean them out that time and the huskies hold ink aliaga penetrated from inside at the linebacker position boy he's a good football player playing middle linebacker and he just fired the gap and made the play nice job it shows he really hasn't given up here's trying to lead the way but it broke down otherwise see in other positions it broke down before it got there he's blocking on fiat but the play broke down too soon now the huskies send kneel onto the field their tail back to return this punt he's standing back on the washington 22-yard line bartholomew into punt [Music] jim lambreith said he oh bartholomew two bad punches oh baby first time he's ever punted in buckeye stadium and he's a little upset with himself well they very seldom give a freshman a scholarship to punt here at ohio state under the john cooper regime and if i was bartholomew i'd go to the far end away from the head coach i'd go way down by the other 30-yard line just stay away from the head coach we'll be right back [Music] college football on abc brought to you by chevrolet the cars and trucks 36 million folks depend on every day genuine chevrolet napa auto parts we keep america running domino's pizza when it's got to be deep it's got to be domino's ultimate deep dish pizza and the u.s navy you and the navy full speed ahead full speed ahead for the washington huskies their backup quarterback courtney drove him to a touchdown in two plays now the defense holds [Applause] [Music] to the 48-yard line with sheehy the running back john saunders how about oregon and ucla well brent apparently we're going to hear about this guy tony graziani quite a bit this year he has shown he can throw for touchdowns and here he is running a little fake there and takes it in from seven yards out and oregon retakes the lead over the bruins 31-24 brent so john the ducks are acting like they are not to be denied here it is courtney incomplete through it beyond janoski's grab grasp and uh springs with coverage there for the buckeyes so now this is going to bring up a third and nine for washington [Music] frapple and pinkus back on the field as the book in defensive ends number 92 at 94. that figures to give courtney less time to throw the ball than perhaps he had in that previous series when they were not on the field you got to rush him with a little more concern for his scrambling ability because he can fly from the shotgun he wants to take off and he does but belisari coming quickly in tonight in the first down that time the middle linebacker reading it was able to slide in behind and here comes a fourth down no question they're gonna go for it here this defense has really gotten better from that first quarter on it's been a good defense for a long time over the last four years last four seasons buckeye defense giving up an average of 15-3 good coaching good coaching by that entire defensive staff courtney who is still on the field even though the punter is there courtney is in short punt formation as though it could be a shotgun but no they're going to send it i somewhat surprised that they've elected here to give it up and it is downed at the 16-yard line with 10 15 to go they're gonna need three scores having missed on that two-pointer what do you think well in that field position it's not it wouldn't have been a surprise to try to fail to make the punt they left the main front defense in there they were playing defense not punt return so it was a good decision to go ahead and play we'll be right back [Music] there's our lineup next saturday 3 30 eastern time they want to check in on pay-per-view too you buckeye fans or watch the ohio state pittsburgh out of washington washington state at home against ucla 30-13 buckeyes over the huskies 10 15 to go now eddie george and nikki sualua the backs and the bucks will attempt to grind down some time on that clock off a fake point to the left fires complete to glenn who is out of bounds john saunders how about florida and tennessee right now well brent tennessee has 30 points at halftime and right now tennessee has 30 points riedel anthony takes this one in for a touchdown problem for tennessee is the gators now have 48. that's the score back to you brian like i said you got to watch that florida speed in the second half make it all over you down there to swap i mean those guys are something ever accused me of being a frontrunner first down at 10 now and glenn hands it off he came in motion point giving it to george out to the 35 jack a root what do you got going down there big fella well brent i was over murfield a couple of days ago you know the golf course and i wanted to show you something i found hid behind the bushes and i'm not sure i didn't know whose it was but then i looked in and said dick vermeel now you're not supposed to tell people i understand that maybe if you take this to vijay's at pro golf he can fix it but dick i understand you started playing golf and uh if i get the camera up here i've got a message for uh jeff lurie over there at uh the eagles yeah hey mr mr lori you blew it let's get him a set of ten golf clubs and you could have had them the second half oh payback is something [Applause] george oh yeah how can you tell a redneck anyway well anyway it's 30 to 13 but hey listen we knew what i think i would never throw my callaway we do want to thank jimmy whistler those folks out at muirfield village it's amazing that he was able to find that club that's a beautiful golf club oh it really is they had the three tour challenge out there of course earlier this week 29 carries 194 yards nick as george is closing in on a 200-yard rushing day here in columbus i tell you those huskies are still swarming they still swarming they're quick they're just not quite strong enough in front of those 300 pounders all the way across the line you know we were speaking about deerfield village and of course we do the memorial tournament here it reminds me the dean witter folks win ohio state finished up at the meadowlands with that game against boston college john cooper took him into the city on a big tour and dean witter had him down the floor of the stock exchange now you think that george could get somebody's attention if he wanted to make a buy down there all right good i'll tell you that well let's see if he can get the 200 now [Applause] and washington's got it at the 30-yard line washington pounces on the loose football veggie davis sack as moines took a look reggie davis came off the corner boy and he nailed hoing point was lucky to get up washington coming from the left side 23 reggie davis played real well against arizona state they don't pick him up lashawn daniels is supposed to move to the outside and pick him up and i'll tell you spoin looks like he's down for the count there tough as he is he gets up and comes to the bench now wigs made the recovery so eight minutes and seven seconds to go it's 30-13 is there enough time heward is back in at quarterback they're going to bring just assure off the fake in the round neal still battling to the 23. so they gave it the end around look and neil kept it see that slows down the inside out reverse now bolisari number 30 thinks he tackled him and had him down the ground and greg is really upset about it talking to the referee but they didn't call it that way maybe the huskies get a good call for a change here greg belisari he is he's upset right now and he's getting after him a little bit better getting a huddle there and play so this will make it second and two that's an eight-yard gain for neal cleland is the tight end on the wing to the left neal with a beautiful stutter step bella sorry gets away from him maintained his balance and still short of that first down he's a dandy one though he is so strong for the short little guy you know at 185 pounds five foot nine and to be able to do what he does he's really an outstanding athlete and a good student as well here is the play that turned this game completely around in the uh second quarter it was the fake field goal george rolling around the other side got the first down from there the buckeyes scored all right washington now threatening third and two neal and bellassari's got him hanging on at the 21-yard line denies him a first down we had another outstanding collision right there by richard thomas blocking fire of ryan miller 40-34 richard thomas really nailed him allowed him to get outside and possibly get a first down what is it still they get a grin inches inches dick that was a great tackle by belisari that was a great block by richard thomas man can he hit you okay you know he's two-time academic all big ten and in pre-med he's not taking basket weaving he's a bright bright guy they still offer that in some schools there yeah a couple places yeah what the heck i've got to win you know john cooper five-year contract in front of him can breathe a little bit easier got a good football team great coaching staff working for him here right now got a lot of things going his way but it ain't gonna be easy oh that's a tough schedule yeah how about those notre dame tickets coming in here huh thousand bucks something people are willing to pay unbelievable they've been looking forward to that in columbus for a long time the fighting irish come marching in really have one eye on that game for some time 6 58 to go 30-13 bucks in the huskies part of the alumni band making great appearance here in columbus now fourth down and inches heward for the first down bella sorry was trying to throw him back but i think the forward progress will give him the first down let's see the spot and how they sort all this out let me ask george hill he's got a lot of friends back in seattle what's the uh penalty count he's our stats guy here he's been up on top of this story 101 yards still and that's 10 penalties for 101 against the huskies you know i think sometimes and i can remember back moving from conference to conference you're going to a different conference they do call different things differently in different conferences some people much more sensitive to holding in some conferences some conferences they allow you to get away with a little bit more i don't know but today boy it was imbalanced especially in that first half we've had about 700 and almost 50 yards of offense in this baby huh yeah just did get it jim lambert boy he's done a good job there and the players love him the coaches love him he really feels at home now as a head coach this being his third year going through the problem he said the great thing that what his squad did they came out of the adversity of all the penalties a better team there's no you and i and me guys on there they're all team guys left [Applause] stunt in the middle and here they'll step away from it cuts back down to the left with plenty of daylight slammed at the seven yard line helmet comes off oh bounces right back up looks for the corner man kevin johnson was rolled up in zone out there when he broke up inside he came in and made the play coming up from that free safety spot to deliver the blow and he looks like he got the worst of it coach yes he did but i'll tell you who also got in on that hit was kevin johnson 52 the left-hand side of your screens he goes off playing coverage quarterback scrambles up inside now 52 right side of your screen flashes in and they have a heck of a contract [Applause] yeah i could see gwen got hurt right on the aftermath as he was diving in but a first and goal on the heward run huskies looking for a quick score split backs right now and heward will stay apparently in the shotgun he does high touchdown kneel a juggling catch in the end zone by the husky's tailback holds on 606 to go i sort of give up figuring out what they're going to do down by 11 you normally go for two wales is in courtney again the holder oh it's a seven pointer now let's see that makes it a ten-point game so he's still going to need a touchdown and a two yeah and a field goal right to win it to pull it out at some point you're going to need the two and there's always been that debate yeah don't wait for the last time yeah go now yeah you know jim scott my only question dick is do you think the staff has talked it over and they're saying that look if we can come back and tie these guys it's as good as a win right now is there any possibility that they're saying to themselves over there let's say we can get two scores in six minutes and walk out of here with a tie it would be a great comeback what's your feeling about something like that well you know you have a thought that i my experience on the sideline and talking to coaches and your staff in your middle frame of mind i i don't think the thing can tie i think they're thinking we'll go for two at a later time i think they they come to win would a tie cost ohio state a possible national championship oh yes there's there's one you're supposed to on the chart yep [Music] neal did a heck of a job you know overlooked in this that was some grab in the end zone we'll get an opportunity here to show it to you again there were buck eyes all over him down there in the end zone and the young man stayed right with it now they short kick this one and springs is out to the 29-yard line and here comes bobby hoyne and the buckeyes offensive line let's take another look at this score by neal it was an impressive catch in the end zone i don't know how he saw the ball coming at it right side of your screen he comes out of the backfield there was a really an illegal play on that the offensive right tackle on that play tripped the defensive lineman who beat him to the inside and got away with it that was a bob sapp outsmarted him that time he was beaten inside and he tripped the defensive end and allowed the quarterback to get the ball off ingenuity got to think on your feet now eddie george is one of the split backs 196 yards for number 27. leads him on the sweep can this be 200 no he is denied and fiala is there richie number 97 also down the bottom of that pile and the husky's trying to get it back here 5 40. randy hart the defensive coordinator and staff have made a good adjustment in against that split back sweep play see they got somebody up in the face of the play turned it back right away so the inside out pursuit could make the play good adjustment by randy hart and his defensive staff first half they really hurt him with that sweet play [Music] now and the bucks come up to the line the offensive line has gone the distance too tight end the fake and rule left point gets away from jensen and slides out of bounds with malloy in pursuit as a 37 and a reminder that if time permits stay tuned for the thrifty car rental post game report featuring scores and highlights from around the country here are score ohio state 30 washington 20. washington led it one time 7-6 then a field goal boosted the bucks up to a 9-7 lead they've had it ever since 4 45 to go now and the buckeyes looking for a first down on this third and three [Applause] lewis sat in front of george a pair of tight ends buckeye power line to get him to jump off and they have not played fake in a throw for it oh he does out of bounds they did it very good call midfield it was glenn two things done real well there by joe alex the offensive right-hander staff two things third down they're going to try to draw them offside first time with a long long count and then they don't get them offside so they come a roll out and get him outside the pressure and throw the high percentage out pattern how would you like to be choosing the two wide receivers on the all big ten team this year ingram and scott at penn state you've got this young man glenn right here at ohio state donald trump tumor up there at ann arbor mercury dandy mercury hayes is there oh there's some fine wide receivers in the big ten they've got to go ahead and gamble on defense and come with some glitches and try to throw up for losses here they come and george steps away only one yard with greenlaw making the pop john saunders what's up well frank give johnny major some credit he's got his team moving again against texas demetrius harris 18 yards here on a second and sixth and pitt has taken the lead on the road 27-24 brent doesn't take majors long not too long the old kg fox ought to think about that situation remember johnny was sick came back didn't have a job with george and this is dudley 80 as the eighth man he's gonna block points good defense one of those kids are swarming brent jensen is there dudley's got to find somebody to put a helmet on it there's so many purple helmets rallying to that ball they you can block them they're not staying blocked real good stamina in that front they haven't shown the fact that they might be wearing down they've regained their second wind a little bit and they're coming after him three minutes to go washington with three timeouts and that clock is starting to get critical on him maybe they'll start new side at three minutes now looks like they're going to bring the outside people now yeah here they come [Applause] running room for george that should do it that should boost him over 200 yards on the day 13 george 206 yards for the ohio state tailback he barges into consideration for the heisman trophy here this afternoon in columbus he's in an outstanding that's the third time in his career he's rushed for over 200 yards that's really early in the season to do it the first time this year thousand-yard running backs 41 of them in ncaa 1a last year 141 of them and he's one of them and maybe the best only player as we said in the history with three 200-yard games came in leading with two now he's got three he's probably going to have three or four more before the seat is over [Applause] well i sure thought archie had a pair but uh [Music] archie had to i thought i don't remember now but uh i was just thinking about his he's the only one in the same season see not in the same season now that would be the difference yeah different years yep yeah ours wasn't too bad you know aren't you pretty good player still here they think he does an outstanding job department he does nice fella in fact they like him so much i saw his picture in the penn state gearbox book they really liked him around this conference well here's the first down now 227 to go george again [Applause] and george runs it to the 34-yard line down to two minutes he's a four five forty guy at 230 pounds six foot three when you first look at him you think he's a tight end but then you watch him run and his all his moves he has good hands he has the whole package better football player this year than last [Music] and running behind this big offensive line brent real an advantage calhoun his full back now let calhoun do it [Music] they're just giving it to 2-7 and you know the genuine chevrolet most valuable players of this game no surprise from ohio state you're looking at him eddie george and number 12 from washington leon neal a standout today and in celebrating his 25th year of sponsorship chevrolet will donate one thousand dollars deed schools general scholarship to reward outstanding students for their academic achievements and to assist those in financial need we'll come back and wrap up what appears to be an ohio state victory in a moment [Music] so we are back for the final 127. you know early in the game if you were with us you know that i sounded off about used computers and not humans because i think it's an enormous enormous conflict of interest to have people voting for games where there's that much money on the stake and i'm so much surprised that so many quality newspapers and television stations are allowing people to get involved in this particular process but in looking at the one computer readout in the usa today sagarin had ohio state rated fourth off of that win against boston college somewhat interesting now point on a fake rules over here to the right and he's going to keep it oh maybe he's going to bust one to the 10. and malloy tosses him out of bounds it's cleanup time in columbus that was a counteractions sweep all the way you can throw off a two they flow one way and they brought the fullback underneath and he becomes a lead blocker fake the play going to his left now the fullbacks sualua comes underneath there on that he can throw it to him or he can get the block when he gets downfield oh that's an old san francisco 49er bill walsh play in the nfl they throw it more than they runners 25 yards on that particular run down toward one minute and now pepe tierson who has replaced george after his brilliant afternoon running it and buckeyes content although you know here's a situation with the way things are a touchdown in the paper to people who haven't watched it looks a lot more impressive i suppose if you're going to 37 to 20 yeah you hate to do this to somebody on the other side you know well you know john earlier in the third quarter was pulling guys out he was rotating offensive linemen defensing people out of there and all of a sudden huskies are back in it and he's forced to get those guys back in there i think he is forced to try to score yeah i agree penn state put a number on the board of course florida state nebraska they certainly figured to stay one too don't they they both exploded today no problem there and no argument with those two quality teams either by the way those are fine football teams well let's see there is the top 25 and uh that was the quick washington schedule there looking at that there are some of their problems down the road they've got here we are top three florida coming back with a good comeback auburn goes later sc later penn state dropped to seven tennessee colorado and there are the buckeyes down in 10th place today i think the way when we saw colorado i believe colorado is going to move up there somewhere all they have to do is hey that big one texas a m coming up and then they've got to get ready for a home game because you know who a little bit later so final minute winding down in columbus harrison searching good job washington really nice job by inc aliaga the inside linebacker scraping off on that really a good strong play by him they wanted to come back inside they had to seal up and he just filled it perfectly good hustle by richie everybody else getting to the ball not ready to conceive a touchdown at the end of the ball tackle here's aliaga right here playing inside linebacker now watching straight from the inside to the left now wang he moves back in there stacks it up gets some help from the inside from deep divers good team defense not going to concede anything regardless of 50 seconds or not good character football team we're going to make a run at this packed end [Music] 50 seconds stewart [Applause] [Music] number 70 in the middle of that defensive line but not too much was he no he was not i walked in the meeting room on thursday and he was in there running a film study with the rest of the defensive people because they're not school yet so they have a lot of time to he's like a coach on the field real bright guy academic all big ten and he can teach other people how to play no chance to get out of bounds yeah they had him surrounded you know there's a fella who has played well and thomas is down right now but that's johnson number 52 of the buckeyes he came in here rudzinski is at the and uh number 52 came in here i believe it was from a junior college transfer from northeast oklahoma he splashes into place you know what he lacks an experience within the system he makes up an innate athletic ability because when he sees it and it's defined he can get there quickly and thomas down here banged up a little bit good player he's married i'm sure his wife christy and daughter marianne are sitting home watching usually in that position you're all right you just maybe have your wind knocked out good good football player most inspirational player on the squad last year and i can see why i really enjoyed watching this guy play love to coach those kind of guys brent they give you what they have to give and then a little more i guess if i read you right i like them yeah and you do too all right yeah i've heard you rave about it i always have coaches have got to love about the team you think the huskies are going to go home and become a factor in the pac-10 i do i think you think this might be john cooper's best ball club yeah regardless of what he wants to say they just got so many they got five quality quality offensive players and the rest of the guys women can play but i mean five real sunday football players [Applause] incomplete now one snap left in the ball game tempers flare down there at the end of the proceeding and uh the officials will get that straightened out quickly enough pickle was down there in the middle of things with the offensive line temper's firing a little bit late i suppose not too unusual here it's been a hard hitting yo it has plenty of hands great hits both sides have really knocked around each other fortunately no one got hurt yeah but you know neither team i guess becker limped off didn't they yeah that's right neither team anymore can with your good football team you start losing guys you're not a good football team anymore because there's nobody has the depth anymore well the buckeyes are forced to be reckoned with no question about that and heward now that's gonna do it that's it it's gonna be a 10-point win by the buckeyes [Applause] [Music] ohio state beats washington 30 to 20. we had 820 some yards of offense in this game this afternoon whoa let's send you quickly to new york and john saunders john take it away all right brent before we leave we got to bring you this oregon marching tony graziani three yard touchdown pass to christian mclemore and oregon has the lead late in the game brent back to you [Music] what an unbelievable ball game we'll catch up with the bruins next week out in coleman the great northwest see what the cougars can do against the bruins here damon heward and washington beaten by 10 30 to 20. so long everybody
