button and turn on notification to never miss out our latest videos it's hard to believe but the Sahara was once a lush green paradise around 6 000 years ago this region was home to rivers lakes and grasslands large populations of Wildlife and human settlements this period is lasted for around 4 000 years before the region began to dry up so what caused Sahara to turn into a desert a group of scientists believe that it was sudden whereas others believe it happened gradually it is true that different parts of the desert could have dried up more sudden than others most scientists believe it was due to a change in the Earth's orbit there is a slight tilt of an earth axis and that occurs every 41 000 years this can cause more sunlight shining on a particular area this change leads to a collapse of the ecosystem as rains were becoming less frequent this change in the weather transformed the vegetated region into some of the driest land on Earth causing that soil slowly turns Sandy eventually plants and crops couldn't grow because of dry weather civilizations also moved to areas closer to rivers researchers are still trying to uncover more for this enormous climate transformation Sahara made up of sand dunes Baron Rocky plateaus gravel Plains dry valleys Salt Flats mountains and rivers most of the rivers and streams in the Sahara are all seasonal but the Nile River has water throughout the year the Sahara is famous for its sand dunes and some of these Dunes are truly massive wind has played a significant role in shaping the majority of the land in this area a quarter of the desert's expanse is composed of sand dunes the sand dunes found in the Sahara can reach Heights comparable to those of skyscrapers and extend for many miles the herd cheby is the largest Dune in the Sahara its Heights goes up to 492 feet this Dune spans a distance of 17 miles from north to south and measures up to three to four miles from east to west along the Algerian border there are many mountains in the Sahara Desert the highest peak in the desert is emikosi it has a height of 11 204 feet other mountains in Sahara are the air mountains to bestie mountains the Red Sea Hills Saharan Atlas adrude iforas and Hagar mountains there are over 20 lakes in the Sahara most of those Lakes are our saltwater Lakes the Chad Lake in Sahara is the only freshwater lake the Sahara holds the world record for the highest temperature ever recorded on earth with a temperature of 136 degrees Fahrenheit which was recorded in 1922 in elizia a town in Libya the average temperature in the Sahara is around 86 degrees Fahrenheit although many people associate the Sahara with a consistently hot climate temperatures in this region can decrease significantly at night as a result of the absence of moisture dropping to as low as -21 degrees Fahrenheit despite its harsh weather conditions the Sahara is home to a variety of fascinating and unique wildlife some of the most notable species include the Saharan cheetah fennec fox Dromedary camel the Addax Antelope a number of species of snakes lizards and scorpions the Dromedary camel one of the Sahara's most famous animals in the desert using its fatty hump and other bodily adaptations the camel is capable of traveling for extended periods of time without access to food or water due to its large and thick lips the Dromedary camel can consume thorny plants dry grasses and salt Laden vegetation additionally with its thick paw pads it can easily walk through rough Rocky and Sandy terrains the dromedary's narrow nostrils and prominent eyebrows and eyelashes offer protection against sandstorms by shielding its eyes and nose furthermore when provided with water it can consume more than 30 gallons of water within few minutes [Music] Sahara has some of the most ancient and complex rock art of the world these carvings and paintings which are thousands of years old offer valuable glimpses into the daily lives of the Region's early inhabitants they portray a range of activities such as hunting Warfare and everyday life some of these artworks are remarkably well preserved and their original colors can still be seen in the present day the Sahara hosts some of the earliest human settlements found in the world with the region being inhabited for thousands of years archaeologists have Unearthed remnants of human settlements that date back up to ten thousand years revealing evidence of some of the earliest civilizations on the planet these ancient settlements offer valuable insights into the lifestyles of our ancestors the Sahara is a significant contributor to Global dust storms which can be immense in size and can blanket entire regions with sand and dust the dust particles from the Sahara can be carried over long distances with some traveling thousands of miles to reach far away locations such as the Caribbean and the United States over the course of time the Sahara has experienced a significant increase in its size particularly during the summer months in fact scientists have observed a substantial expansion of the desert during Summers leading to an approximately 16 percent rise in the average area covered by the Sahara over 93 years the entire population of the Sahara is believed to be less than 2 million people comprising those who reside in permanent settlements near water sources those who migrate based on the season and those who continue to practice the ancient trade routes as permanent Nomads the Rickett structure commonly referred to as the blue eye of the Sahara is a geological formation located within the Sahara Desert the structure spans over a region of 40 kilometers in Mauritania initially geologists assumed that the formation was a crater caused by an asteroid impact subsequent studies of the Rocks within the Rick hat structure have revealed that its Origins are entirely earth-based millions of years ago volcanic activity originating deep beneath the earth's surface caused the entire landscape around the formation to lift during the time of the volcanic activity that formed the Rick hat structure the surrounding regions were not deserts as they are today rather they were likely much more temperate with flowing water being abundant sandstone rocks were deposited by winds and at the bottoms of lakes and rivers during this more temperate period the volcanic float beneath the surface eventually caused the overlying layers of sandstone and other rocks to rise up when the volcanic activity subsided wind and water erosion gradually wore away at the domed layers of rock the region then began to settle and collapse inwards which led to the formation of the roughly circular a shape known as the Rick hat structure despite the Sahara being a well-studied region a significant portion of it remains Uncharted leaving many Mysteries to be unraveled with the advancement of modern Technologies and novel exploration methods there is a good chance that we will discover more about this mysterious place in the future foreign
