Welcome to my channel, the Self-Talking Boss today let's see about a sunk ship, the South China Sea No.1 which was a trading ship of China that sank 80 years ago, it was filled up with goods, expensive, but exactly how? My friend told me a story like this he said, Do you know about the celadon with dark pattern in Longquan? there were only 3 in world, but in 1987, when they were looking for the sunk ship, they found 13 of them the first time, that was a bit exaggerated, but on it, there were dozens of thousands of them, china in Song Dynasty 800 years ago, they were all from Longquan, Jingdezhen, Dehua, Jianyao, all these finest stuffs there were piles of them, and the completed ones, with no scars were at least 70,000 and such china, if you got one of them, you won't worry about money for half of your life today let's talk about its story in 1987, two British guy walked into this Holland library they wanted to search information of a sunk ship, coded Rhineburg, which was a ship 200 years ago, a trading ship of East Indies in Holland British new that the ship set out from Djakarta to Guangzhou in July in 1771, but it lost contact in July the next year it might be sunk in Guangzhou there were 6 boxes of white silver, and 300t tin ingots, that was attracting, so they came to Holland to search for more records, and they wanted to calculate the location of the ship then found those treasures, well they really did find the information, so when the ship was in open sea in Yang river, there was a typhone 14 sea miles from Xiachuan Island, and 27 sea miles to Zhapo county that's enough information so they flied to China and they suggested to find the ship together with China soon, they signed a contract and the salvage boat has reached the open sea, and searching, they've searched for a months, and the British ran out of money, they were about to give up if they failed to find it in 3 days, then they would go back, but at that day, there ere 2 black dots on the sonar sized 1m completely different from 40m sized ship. so British wanted to ignore this clue however the Chinese said, go there and put me down it was not deep, only 20m or so, but the current was complex, and the sand and mud was rushed, it was had to see things, that's weird cause just when he dive in, it was all back in peace, and he saw a fishing web, in it was a slim long object looks like a longeron, and he found another one, could it be another longeron? he came up and said, that might be 2 longeron if you see it form the coagulation, that's at least for hundreds of years, not like a modern one, they should try it they fished for it, and threw the mud, it appeared a golden chain, they were all cheering, same time there were lots of celadon which matched the story talked by my friend but we don't know if there were 13 celadons but two witnesses mentioned 2 stories first , the value of this ship, it's said, the leader of China, he could tell that it was not the Rhineburg, cause it was all from South Song, that's 500 years earlier than Rhineburg after the carnival, British wanted to fish again, but Chinese said, no way, that was not Rhineburg, out of contract, but the British said yeah, so we just fish in public sea, none of your business back then the territorial waters was 16 sea miles, so they calculated, it turned out, that was a bit more than 16 sea miles so when British thought they were clever, Chinese leader said in calm, no, we measured it from the lowest point when it was ebb tiding Finally, they gave up and went back to Britain after that, Chinese leader chose 237 completed and fine goods, sent them to the Museum of Guangdong soon, the experts reported secretly, that the boat valued 300 billion dollar while the GDP of Guangdong was only 20billion dollar a ship that worth 10 years of work of the whole Guangdong how did they calculate this number? that's the second story there was this Michael, he was a underwater adventurer, and he held an auction of China's cultural relics, from a ship called Nanjing he said he found the ship according to the files in East Indies from Holland, he found this ship in 1752, and he gained 239,000 relics, Chinese were angry, but they could do nothing cause there were no specific law for relics in seas, and they got no proofs to arrest him and the only to save those oversea relics, is to buy them back, so the Holland ambassadors prepared 30,000 dollar for the auction and they found out that all those secret wealthy men were there, the cars out there were all hand-made luxurious cars while the 2 representatives of China walked in, the host gave them the No.1 board on prupose but for 3 days, they never put it up, cause 30,000 dollar couldn't buy a single pearl it was on news in 1986, and cause of that, the experts calculated it valued 300billion dollar then this Michael was so bold and bragging, he said there were a million celadon, but he could only fished up 240,000 of them so he just smashed the rest of them, and everyone should have no worries cause they were all single precious in 1999, he again fished the Taixing ship, which was called the Titanic in China he searched that in 1822, the ship set out in Xiamen to Java, there were 2,000 passengers, and a million celadon when it was in South China sea, it was sunk, and the 1,800 passengers died, only 198 of them survived, saved by Indiana so Michael went search the diary of Indiana, and he calculated that the location, so he secretly came and fished 360,000 celadon, smashed 600,000 of them till now he was still finding ships in China, and he has fished at least 50 ships till now, back to the story, after the experts reported the value, the gov made arrangements, first they prevent the location from revealing and then they formed underwater archaeologists to save them first well, that was awkward cause China had no power to fish the boat back then. and the archaeologists didn't how to dive down it was all blanked unfortunately, the information was revealed, in 2 years, the Japanese came said they wanted to cooperate with us finding the ship guess it can't be hidden for all so Chinese agreed that and they went down to see how was it but the ship was gone for 6 days, they found nothing but only took rounds was the sonar broke? or something else? till 7th day, when everyone was depressed, the leader 2 years ago said, go west for 100m, put me down but this time he was not blessed it was not clear at all, and he could only touch with hands, after 2 days, they found the web 2 years ago when the water was settled, the Japanese went down as well, that was awesome, and they painted this picture so Japanese wanted to fish it together with China, but no way, so it gotta wait, till 1999, Hongkong was building the Disney land and they wanted to fill the sea before that, you gotta search the water, preventing breaking relics, so after 12 years when the underwater archaeologists group was established, they did their first mission archaeologists bought the diving equipment so often they became friends with the boss, and they told him about the ship he was excited, and he said he wanted to call for all those diving fans in Hongkong, to make donation for the next research so this year, they got a second chance, but this was much worse than 20 yeas ago, they searched for 25 days, but no clues cause the GPS was not as precise as it is now but they say that the relics were spiritual, when it doesn't want to be found, you'll never know where it is even if you sleep on it. but when it wants to be found, it will trap you on 27th day, the sea was clearer, and the diver saw the web, it was so clear, he even saw the woods, elegant, light yellow unbelievable when they came up, they celebrated for it, but why it was saved so well till now? here's a story by experts, in lots of places in Guangdong, there was this ancient custom reserved till now, after Dragon Boat Festival every year, the villagers filled the boat with stones, and till it sunk in mud, next year, they would dig it out, flush it, and it will look like a new one in fact they took advantage of the anaerobic bacteria to protect the boat, cause there was no oxygen in the mud only anaerobic bacteria are there and they would get rid of other bacteria, and they never make a wood rotted the ship might be protected by them accidentally, and experts said 800 years ago, it set out with filled up goods, that was too much, the leader wanted too much so the ship was deep in water, and the place it sank was only 20m deep now, but 800 years ago, it might only be 4-5m deep, so when they got there, the normal ships passed alright, but it was too heavy, and it touched the stones, so it sank in a fast way the sand and mud was flowing up, and forming a non-air condition for the ship, so it was like a time capsule could it be attacked by pirates? experts said no, cause 800 years ago, the territorial waters of China was too busy ancient Chinese believed the sea was a trading way, so though the ship was only 30m long, but it was 10m wide, like a wooden bench caus eit could contain lots of things and lots of benches setting out, together, each one got crossbows on, they took care of each other, no chance for pirates to get close but Europeans believed the sea was war field, so they made their ships into long slim stick for flexibility better fight alone move fast and in long distance but less goods the Chinese ship and European ship were two different concept so 800 years ago, the sea was for trading not fighting but the reality needs proofs of the No.1 South China Sea, so the craziest part came, they wanted to get it up in whole that was crazy, you gotta build a box bigger than a basketball field and you sink it down, covering the ship, and you put the girder, make it into a bag then use a huge chain block to get it all up, the whole box, dozens of thousands of toms of water, mud, and the ship why not split it cause we need a whole one the historical value was much more important than those jewelry, and the box was designed 4 years later, till 2007, the project was on the way So according to the plan, after we put down the box, we need to put 500t concrete to make it into the seabed, but they found that 500t was no use so they called for another 400t still no use then 1300t, no more concrete now, but still no use, what to do now so the leader said to collapse a small bay around, and transport the concrete here, continue, till 4000t, no more really, cause the box was about to collapse but there were 2m left, how? only the divers could go down and dig it, which was dangerous cause if something went wrong, the concrete fell down, the ship would be smashed, but luckily they were careful, and they completed the mission but soon, a more serious thing showed the next step was to put in 36 girders, but when the first one going in, it was bended by sands, never reached the hole the other side they fished up the broken girder, it was upset, cause no one thought it would be like this they tried and tried, for 13 days, and they finally put in the first girder, but how? my friend said, it was the top secret held by salvage bureau it took 9 months to bring the ship up, then they have to sent them to the museum that was built earlier for cleaning they were in water fir 800 years, there were lots of salt if you suddenly put them in pure water, or in air, they would rot from inside to settle this, before the cleaning, they sank it in the same salty water for 7 years more, till 2014, the cleaning began maybe it would be done in 2022, so if you go to Yang river Museuum of Archaeology, you could see them cleaning the ship according to the relics, they believed, they set out from Quanzhou, and there were 17,000 coins from South Song, why so much coins? that made the archaeologists review an opinion from a western economist that is Liao Kingdom collapse because of the coin war of North Song maybe it's true, when Tang was in its best time, they produce 200,000 Guan per year so the east Asia and north Asia started to use Tang's money, but when it comes to South Song, they produced 6,000,000 Guan per year, that was 30 times more than Tang but why in records they said that it was less money in Kingdom, where did they go? that was a mystery for all the time but now the ship revealed the history, 6,000,000 Guan that might be for the whole world the owner of the ship traded goods and the money secretly, if he arrived in somewhere peaceful, he would sell the celadon for more money if he arrived in somewhere unstable in economic, then he would sell the money, that was clever soon they found massive iron pot and stick on the deck, that might be the final crush of the accident and it also revealed another thing in Song Dynasty, the gov strictly controlled the exportation of iron but did it work? apparently, no if you gotta your way, you could export iron if you want so they believed these were exported to Southeast Asia, where there were wars, lacking of iron they found the string that used to hold the pot, 800 years later, it was not broken, and there was bamboo cage on it, in it were gooses and hens bodies so he knew how to save rooms such thing for eating, he hanged them outside and they found salty eggs, same as the ones now, were them for selling or eating? we won't know then experts hoped they could know who the owner was by the relics was he a South Song business man or a foreign trader? he got a golden chain for almost 2m long, and a Arabian belt, so maybe he was Arabian Pu and Jin in Quanzhou were all Arabians that joined South Song, could him be one of them? then they found 2 dead bodies of cobra, and keeping cobras was a thing of Indians, so maybe he got genes from India and they found a jewelry box, there were 3 golden rings, in Chinese style, Indian style and Arabian style so he might knew these languages and customs, he was so smart that he could join in all these places he dressed himself according to where he went and a Arabian golden necklace where it could hold a sachet, which was glorious, and a golden bracelet as wide as a thumb the dragon head decoration on it told us it could shock people, so he might have lots of friends like gansters, finally, they came up with th eidentity according to the direction of the ship first they assumed that it was sunk in horizon, then we could find the line they were on then we found the destination was Sumatra, and that means he might be an Arabian business man with South Song nationality cause there was a nationality law in South Song, that the foreigner traders must come back once in a year to the gov if not, then the nationality would be canceled so the foreigners never went too far, they loved to fill their ships and went to Sumatra to sell them out and they would stuffed all those with spice, and one day 800 years ago, the owner got some iron in a secret way he was excited he tied and tied just when he left Guangzhou, in Yang river, they touched the stone cause of the weight, and they sank, but what was the reality? maybe next year, after they clean it all, we could learn a more convinced story then but however, it told us, 800 years ago even 2,000 years ago, from the time of Yu people, to South Song, we got an age of Navigation but back then, the sea was not for wars, and the ships were not warships, but all those numbers of bench ships with heavy goods let's call it a day thank you all at last the lady says turning ships into cargohold, isn't that your style?
