Sean De Jong’s 1996 Freightliner FLB Cabover Truck Tour - Preserving the History of the Rig

my name is sha D young and I'm from ripping California which is a small town in the Central Valley this is my 1996 Freightliner flb cabover and I know the full history of it it was purchased new in October of 95 by a guy named Norman Butler I think he hauled rice with it at first uh ordered at the Sacramento freight liner dealer delivered to the Stockton freight liner dealer that was all uh for the first couple years and then later around 99 it was painted these colors which a lot of West Coast truckers recognized this as durksen transportation and Norm was contracted onto durksen for several years he then traded this truck in he debated keeping it but he decided it was time for a new one a new he traded it in for a new classic he missed it it was always one of his one of his favorite trucks that he owned for years you know norm and I do know Norm Norm is here like did you know him before all of this I did not know him before this I had met him through Dirks and transportations dispatcher at the Plymouth atths show in 2019 and it was just a real quick exchange good to meet you and I looked into him a little bit I said oh he had a really nice truck at Dirks and transportation you know dual exhaust big big cab long wheel base Big Turbo wing it was a sharp truck and I had had a picture of that truck saved not knowing that I would be owning it one day I had met Norm again here at the atths national show in Reno in 2019 I said Norm do you know what ever happened to your durksen truck and he said no I wish it was a great truck he told told me how he had debated keeping it but he's decided it was time for a new one and lost track of it fast forward 18 years from when he traded it in go to October of 19 I'm on Craigslist just perusing just perusing and I actually typed in n14 which is the engine that the truck has we'll get to that in a little bit a Peter belt came up with a set of bottom dumps while this small company was selling everything they decided it was time to sell this truck was in there and it caught my attention I showed Norm I texted him and he called me right away amazed he had not seen or heard heard much of anything about the truck in 18 years so he asked well you going to look at it you going to buy it I said well let me see so several months later we talked to the owner and the owner's daughter and we worked out a deal this truck came home January of 2020 and obviously it's come a long ways it needed an engine computer uh lots of work on the paint needed to get done paint needed buffing all the aluminum needed polishing couple Le little knick-knack things but it's here today and it runs well 846 th000 Mi which is low for being a 96 engine transmission all that you said n14 yeah n14 select when I got the engine computer programmed I said the more the marrier so 500 horse with a 13-speed transmission and yeah everything's all original original tanks original Wheels original drivetrain so here it is today and yeah Norm has seen the truck he's sat in it he started up and he was just amazed how and he it was good times for him hauling for Dirks and transportation it was a top class company um he loved working with the people there he was a hardworking owner operator did well there yeah he specs the truck with every option available that he could at the time you can look me up on social media go to Instagram Sean's cabover page Sean's classic trucks on Facebook YouTube and Tik Tok then why did you want to go inside do you like trucks do you like Daddy's truck yeah awesome what's your name what's your name PA Paige awesome nice to meet you [Music] oh
