Scripture Verse By Verse (4) Proverbs 1:1-22

hello everyone welcome to scripture verse by verse my name is Michael Moretti and today we begin a new book of the Bible we're in the Old Testament book of proverbs following Psalms we go to proverbs today we're in proverbs chapter 1 verse 1 and we will begin this study in just a minute you can study the book of proverbs and all the other books of the Bible three complete series going through the entire Bible verse by verse are available for you at the Bible verse by verse com that's the scripture verse by verse website found at the Bible verse by verse com so I hope you check it out I hope you have a love for the Word of God I really do and if you do that's place to go because God will fill you to the fold because that's all that's there go from Genesis through revelation just the way God gave it and if you don't have a love for the word of God and you're a Christian well you need to have a love for the Word of God and the only thing that will give you that is getting into the word Jesus name Amen okay proverbs chapter 1 verse 1 the Proverbs of Solomon the son of David king of Israel proverbs are sayings that are taken from everyday life they are designed to communicate practical wisdom for living the right way you want to live the right way this book will help you they teach us how to live God's proverbs do they also warn about that about the dangers of being foolish and so it's a very practical down-to-earth type book let's read verses 1 & 2 together the Proverbs of Solomon the son of David king of Israel to know wisdom and instruction to perceive the words of understanding God cares about us and therefore he wants us to be able to discriminate between right and wrong God wants us to be skillful at knowing right from wrong he wants us to be skillful at making good choices in the book of Proverbs will help to give us that skill you have the Word of God if you're a Christian and the Holy Spirit who is the divine author of God's Word if you're a Christian you have the Holy Spirit the author of scripture inside of you if you're a Christian then you have the written word of God on top of that you have a book that specializes in practical living and practical choices you got dynamite man you got spiritual dynamite inside of you working on your behalf and so let's get into the book of proverbs verse 3 to receive the instruction of wisdom righteousness and justice and equity in other words God wants us to have a high moral standard if a person is immoral or unfair they are not wise notice three again to receive the instruction of wisdom what is the instruction of wisdom what is what is wisdom righteousness and justice and equity if you're in moral you're not wise and you're headed for trouble you're probably already in trouble you say what's moral the written word of God what God says is right is right what he says is wrong is wrong you're gonna try to buck that you're gonna lose that fight every single time and you're gonna messed up you can end up with a life that is messed up useless to God oh and also you're gonna end up in hell you better pay attention to the Word of God it's the only way to blessing and it's only it's the only way to avoid eternal Hellfire you must read the word that's where that's where you learn how to be saved from hell and that's where you learn how to live in this life verse 4 to give prudence to the simple to the young man knowledge and discretion you know what a simple person is someone who is easily led astray doesn't have anything to do with their intellect it's just that a simple person is an inexperienced person and the neat thing about the book of Proverbs is that reading the Proverbs will give an inexperienced person experience without having to gain it through mistakes it's a shortcut the wisdom and there are some things that we just learn by trial and error right but the book of Proverbs will give you wisdom for living insight for living and I'll give you it in a shortcut verse 5 a wise man will hear and will increase learning and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels notice a wise man will hear and he will increase learning no matter how discerning we may be there's always room for improvement and the Word of God helps us to improve verse 6 to understand a proverb and the interpretation the words of the wise and their dark Saints reading God's Word will help us to be more discriminating in other words we're gonna understand when someone says something that's correct when someone says something that is incorrect if you take in the book of Proverbs it'll help you to have that discernment that discrimination between right and wrong discrimination has become an ugly word in society today and certainly discrimination against someone because of their sex or because of of their age or because of their skin color is wrong that's not a biblical thing at all but discrimination is simply discriminating between what's good and bad right and wrong morally speaking it's a good thing and reading God's Word will help us to be more discriminating more discerning in other words we're gonna understand when someone says something that's right when somebody does something that's right we'll be able to look at it man that person is right I need to follow that person lines right up with the Word of God or man that goes against the Word of God I got to stay away from that person I forget that out of my mind before I start thinking that that's a good thing God's Word gives us the ability to distinguish between between words and actions that are correct and incorrect and ideas that are correct and incorrect boy that could save you a lot of trouble you know especially if you're at any age I was gonna say especially if you're a young person you know what the difference is me I'm 64 right so if I make mistakes now what it's gonna I've been praying I ask God to let me live until I'm 90 and teach the Word of God that'd be great I'd love to do that so let's say he grants that request I got 26 years left well if I make some mistakes if I if I failed to follow the Word of God it's gonna have consequences might last 26 years trouble that I live with for 26 years that's a long time but it's not as long as somebody who's only 18 years old and lives to be 90 man they got 72 years of misery because of some mistake that they made so follow the book of Proverbs no matter what age you're at but it's you know when you're when you're when you're 18 19 20 you start making decisions that'll affect you the rest of your life proverbs needs to be followed God's Word as a whole needs to be followed and so notice verse 7 the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge let's stop right there for a second the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge we are not wise we are not smart if we don't fear God the problem with mankind today is there is no fear of God in their eyes they don't fear God they don't tremble at the thought of standing before God and that's why they can joke about Hell and that's why they can joke about their sin and flaunt their sin no fear of God they're fools and it's true for Christians - professing Christians there are way too many professing Christians who have no fear of God they giggle when some preachers talk about judgment giggle giggle snicker snicker because they're so uncomfortable or they're just irreverent but there's no fear of God in their eyes I'll never forget preaching on Hell one day I preached on Hausa it was a strong message on hell I'll never forget a modern evangelical who listen to it said I almost started laughing when you said something I remember what it was I thought to myself out of a thirty minute message on the lake of fire hard-hitting straightforward biblical that's what you comment on that you almost started giggling man why are you giggling you got children you got grandchildren that might be on the way to hell you got friends that might be on the way to hell and I just described what it's like and you point out something that you can giggle about too often that's the case with modern evangelicals they have no fear of God they don't they've been taught to think that God is a good old boy a nice old man you know just lovey dovey sentimental it's just not true you better look at what God's Word says here the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge the most basic element of wisdom and knowledge is to understand that God is God and you better believe it is to understand that God has made everything including us and that he is greater than us and that we are accountable to him and some day we're gonna stand before him and if you're a pastor or you're a Bible teacher you can double it scares me some people wonder why I'm such a straight shooter with the Word of God and I don't water down the message because I fear God because I know I'm gonna stand before God and I'm gonna give an account for everything that I tell you and so that's what I'm gonna tell you the truth about God's Word what it says whether you like it or not whether you hate me or love me I don't care I'm trying to be I'm trying to be the servant of God the one I'm accountable to and I'm trying to be your best friend and if I'm not I'm in trouble with God you better believe it seven the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge but fools despise wisdom and instruction God says if you do your if you do things your way instead of God's Way you are a fool you are an ever-loving everlasting idiot you are a fool how many people do you know I wonder how many people I'm talking to right now I've got names and faces popping into my mind right now even as I think this who I have communicated the Word of God to in a clear straightforward manner only to have them respond that they didn't care what it said they were gonna do things their way I said but you can end up in hell well if I go to hell then I go to hell you fool that goes right back to what I said or what God said there is no fear of God in their eyes they don't care they have a light attitude toward God like somehow they're gonna beat God are you out of your mind God says you do things your way instead of God's way you're a fool you're gonna pay you're gonna die and you're gonna wake up in hell and you'll never get out and if you get angry if I'm talking to a Christian you get angry when God disciplines you for doing wrong you're a double fool do you have a know better if you're truly a Christian even if you're a professing Christian you oughta know better because you obviously been around it fools despise wisdom in other words they don't listen when someone tries to teach them right from wrong fools despise wisdom Falls despise the Word of God fools despise the scripture fools despise instruction from God they don't accept truth nor do they accept correction even when it comes from God and that's the one you should care about that's why I teach the Word of God pip Sigma Rhett you shouldn't be you shouldn't be negative when you teach we should just teach positive stuff really God says the scripture is profitable for correction as well as instruction and righteousness it shows you what you're doing wrong shows you what you what you're doing wrong shows you how to do it right and shows you how to keep doing it right and it's my job to teach the Word of God verse by verse and cover all those areas it's God trying to love you it's God trying to tell you what's good for you don't reject what makes you feel bad you're a fool if you despise instruction just because it makes you feel bad just because it rollovers you that rubs you the wrong way thank God that he showed you something that rubs you the wrong way so you have time to change verse eight my son hear the instruction of thy father and forsake not the law of thy mother and this of course assumes that mom and dad's instructions come out of the Word of God or at least in line with the Word of God verse 9 for they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head and chains about thy neck a graceful or Nanette Orman Ornan him I can said ornament a graceful ornament would be the equivalent of fine jewelry today necklaces and Garland's were used to make a person more attractive so when a young person learns from their godly parents they will grow up to be an attractive person good people will be drawn to them you know sometimes people say I am against homeschooling even here Christian says I'm against homeschooling because children need to grow up and learn how to how to socialize with other with other people with other children and other adults when they get older you get it completely wrong mr. I I can see the faces of people saying that in churches in the past you've got it totally wrong the job of a parent an education is not to teach children how to socialize the job of a good education a biblical education is to teach a child how to become a responsible god-fearing good adult and if they are the right kind of people are going to be drawn to them they're not gonna have any problems getting along verse 10 my son if sinners entice the consent thou not don't let anyone talk you into doing something that you know is wrong following that one little piece of advice don't let anyone try to talk or they don't like anyone succeed and talking you into doing something that you believe is wrong you follow that one little piece of advice they can keep your life from becoming a big mess 11 if well let's return with it my son if sinners entice the consent thou not if they say come with us let us lay wait for blood let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause let us swallow them up alive as Sheol and whole as those that go down to the pit we shall find all precious substance we shall fill our houses with spoil cast in thy light among us let us all have one purse there are people who do not let any of the commandments stand in the way of them doing what they want to do when we recognize someone like that we do ourselves a big favor by staying away from them and that's what he's talking about 15 my son walk not thou in the way with them refrain thy foot from their path again see the only way to avoid the trouble that a bad person will get into is to avoid that bad person because if you hang around them with them even if you yourself don't do any of the bad if you hang around with them if you associate with them some of that bad that happens to them will spill over to you verse 16 for their feet run to evil and they make a stew shed blood surely in vain that net is spread in the sight of any bird God says a bird is wise wise enough to avoid a situation that it knows is a trap and birds and animals they're not they're not stupid my dad and I used to go squirrel hunting my son and I used to go scrolling to when there was a place to hunt and I'll tell you what the brain of a squirrel can't be any bigger than a peanut but there's street smart as it were or wood smart they know they're they know their territory like the back of like the back of their paw and they they smell they're smart they know when there's when there's trouble they a strange sound strange movement man they know they they know where to go hide too so that they're not caught so and this is true of birds also says God where any halfway decent bird is wise enough to avoid a situation that it notices a trap well look at verse 18 and they lay wait for their own blood they lurk secretly for their own lives people who reject the Word of God in the process reject the warning signs of traps which are set to destroy their soul you reject you ignore the warnings found in the Word of God you are rejecting God's warnings that there's a trap set for your soul and if you step into it if you follow that which is not scriptural you will fall into that trap and you will pay for it those who reject the clear spiritual warning signs that God gives them from Holy Scripture you can't even call them a birdbrain because they're not as smart as a bird that senses when there's a trap you're not even a birdbrain when you reject the Word of God sorry if that offends you no I'm not sorry if that offends you it's the truth verse 19 so are the ways of everyone who is greedy of gain who taketh away the life of the owners thereof the evil people that that the evil people that do evil to other people that usually eventually not usually but it will eventually come back to haunt them in one way or another verse 20 wisdom crieth outside she utter her voice in the streets she crieth in the chief place of the concourse and the openings of the gates in the city she uttereth her words saying let's just stop right there for a second other words God wants as many people as possible to hear his message to hear his holy word that's what this is talking about proclaim the Word of God in the city streets over the PA system in the concourse on the radio on the internet on television and even you you can possibly find proclaim the Word of God God wants the Bible he wants his word to be proclaimed everywhere and at all times the Bible contains the wisdom of God and man needs that wisdom to live a decent life here and avoid hell in eternity and that's why God says proclaim it everywhere everywhere I'm always looking for new venues to get out the Word of God do you have any suggestions let me know okay verse 22 how long these simple ones will ye love simplicity stop there in other words God says how long are you gonna be foolish enough to believe simply something simply because it appeals to you simply because it makes you feel good you're gonna please something because it makes you feel good how are you gonna be that dumb only gonna be that stupid how long you gonna be that foolish says God notice how long these simple ones will you love simplicity and the scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge God is rebuking those who don't take his words seriously I am Telling You that is a huge problem today even among modern churches modern evangelical churches they don't take the Word of God seriously that's why they use some stupid ridiculous translation like the message my lord I saw some famous modern hip hipster pastor the other day delivering his whatever it was it was an apology for God it was apology for truth and he what was his what was his bible of choice the message nothing is an abomination a good paraphrase man that's that's pathetic and that shows his disdain for the Word of God right there but God is rebuking people who will not take his word seriously saved and unsaved alike let me let me rephrase that unsaved and professing Christians alike God is rebuking you right now for not taking his word seriously when you gonna wake up when you're gonna quit being such a fool don't you know that your immortal soul is at stake and if you don't care about yourself what about your children because if you don't take the Word of God seriously and you have children they won't either and your grandchildren won't then what then what you're gonna see them burn in hell right alongside of you you better take God's words seriously that's what he's saying when you're gonna quit being such a fool God is clear fools hate knowledge fools hate correction fuse fools have little or no regard for the Word of God and they don't fear God anyone who doesn't take God's advice is a fool anyone who doesn't take God's Word at face value is a fool because he's just trying to help you he's trying to get you to see that you can avoid trouble in this life and in the next the trouble that comes from the shame of sin in this life and the trouble that comes from the eternal flames of hell in the next you can avoid that by giving heed to the Word of God and this is a real good book to do that with the book of Proverbs so
