SCOTLANDS LESSER KNOWN SCENIC DESTINATION - Galloway and it’s wildlife.

foreign [Music] you have it in your tiny car [Music] it's cold you're steamed up good morning folks welcome back to the channel if you are wondering why it's just me then don't worry all will become clear in a minute but we're currently grounded and we cannot travel so I'm taking advantage of being able to get out into the forest and we're gonna see if we can photograph some red squirrels [Music] [Music] breathing breathe out hey there's not loads of info online about this place but we are almost in the Galway Forest I think it actually might still be classes Galway Forest so hopefully there is going to be some red squirrels but I do know there has been quite a bit of squirrel pop so their numbers are less than normal however still far more than there is where I'm from in the southeast of the UK where we don't have red squirrels so pretty around here the grace girl unfortunately has monopolized the whole of the habitat in the selfie so we've lost the red squirrels but hopefully this hide and it's empty which school holidays I was expecting some kids about hopefully it's nice and quiet and we get some luck [Music] breathing breathe out hey [Music] breathing this is probably one of the best hides I've ever been to actually it's really well laid out we've got nice gaps between the trees so it's not too messy and we've got a beautiful backlight when the sun comes out coming in from behind which really does add to your pictures lots of little trees dotted about as well and stumps and whatnot and that's just good because focus on feeders are great but they always look better when they're kind of own natural on a branch and whatnot so this is what I call Easy Wildlife photography no red squirrels yet though but I think this might be a good place to sit and wait and sit and wait I will foreign [Music] [Music] now the sun's come out the temperature has dropped dramatically so I'm just going to run back to the car and grab my coat because Wildlife photography you have got to have a lot of patience and get used to spending a lot of time sitting still and just waiting and when you do that obviously it gets quite cold so check on the van get my coat maybe a snack [Music] don't tell her but I want myself to some of the milk chocolate butter biscuits she is not going to be happy [Music] round two [Music] is around because [Music] the fact it was half term soon became apparent with my chances of photographing the bread squirrels all but gone I decided to leave the birds had posed for some great photos but Wildlife photography very rarely goes to plan and if you've been around a while you'll know that more often than not that is the case for us too [Music] thank you [Music] good morning folks and welcome we're still in a very very wet Scotland and as you can see we are not staying in the van we are staying at this fantastic Lodge and that is because we've got a man down yes a member of our team you'll remember from last week had quite the limp so do you want to tell them what happened at the Vets yes we went to the vets and they've given him some painkillers she did test it all about and stuff and move about because it was a bit stiff so he's on bed rest so that is why we thought it would be a good idea to rent a lodge for a week during half term which in Scotland is pricey but never mind everyone's okay that's the main thing that is the main thing yeah so he has been on bed rest painkillers only going out for wheeze and poops and that is it but it seems to be doing the trick yeah because the vet wasn't sure if it was broken or if it was just a tissue and ligament damage so we've rested it up and obviously getting in and out of the van because this is front paw getting out the van when he jumps down is quite a big impact So to avoid any kind of stress or slips or trips we've just come here and we love doing this on a trip don't we we love breaking off plan and heading into the unknown and spending all of our money on stupid crap but we are going to show you around but you want breakfast first didn't you I do want breakfast because come on it's me [Music] um so Emily's new favorite thing is uh croissants with chocolate spreading because they're better than Pana chocolates is that right oh without a doubt is that because you get more chocolate than what they give you in a normal one well yeah you can govern it can't you foreign we are my health and well-being comes down to having croissants and because we're in Scotland Scotch pancakes what's the difference between a scotch fan and a regular pancake I don't actually know they're little like Scotch tape it's I'm surprisingly not got Tartan on them that's it the label yeah that's it yeah if there's any Scots out there that know what a scotch pancake is over a regular pancake let us know yeah I'm interested oh and like you will not go back to timely but I don't know how to pronounce onion Brew I wanna show us your best attempt I have blue that's nice I need to practice apologies there to the Scots you are genuinely trying to do a proper Scottish accent I am like because there's not a language but I like it it might be a language you might have just offended millions of Scots there we don't know if there's a Scottish language sorry Google yeah we don't want to lose any Scottish like followers because I'm loving Scotland yeah Scotland a party or even the Vets was awesome wouldn't they oh really good vets and cheap as well 45 quid for a consultation and six days worth of painkillers that would have been well over a hundred pound they'll sell yeah easily plus your accent is awesome any Kilts should we get you killed oh I do want to look at Kilts here he is then the injured party I just want to point out this is a pet friendly Lodge and he is allowed up on the sofa and they even provide him with his own blanket feeling sorry for yourself he's actually improved massively since we've been here in fact within one day he was almost better so I think he's been faking it because he wanted a fancy Lodge and they also gave him you get oh where's all the biscuits they gave him in them oh they came with his own dog treats dog bowl dog blanket awesome buddies like Emily eating all the treats [Music] that leads to pain to the positive side stay awake slowly watch as the sun rises a lot of sleep instead foreign [Music] no sign of stopping any time soon it's pretty much been hammered down most of the day with an odd break which is fine because Summer is having a great time exploring this little Lodge that we're in she's absolutely loving it she's at the window she wants to go out when the rain stops will take her out but she's charging around she's really getting acquainted to us around and she actually quite likes it so that's two of us now that want a cabin somewhere AJ's very much resting so he's been snoozing on the sofa most of the time we are going to take him out for a walk and see how he gets on I think he's going to be fine with like 20 minute half an hour walks he's definitely very much on the mend but because we can't go outside and do anything I'm going to make the most of the time and smash out a day's worth of Eddie and Emily is in the van cleaning because once the animals are out and when I'm out of the way it's really easy especially when it's wet to get everything out and give it a proper clean so she's doing that and then yeah we're going to pick things up a bit later on when she's finished doing that we're going to give you a proper tour of where we've been staying basically [Music] foreign [Music] as you can see his leg is much improved from last time we saw you so definitely definitely much better in it yes he's loving life again now it still looks a little bit wobbly so it's going to be easy walks for him for a little while so we're just going around the park it's just your typical Lodge Park really and it just it is but it's also got a laundry it's got laundry which for Emily is very very excited about so everything's been washed everything's been cleaned and then we're ready to get back on the road hopefully this is the kind of cabin we wanted but unfortunately we travel with a dog so we have to have a pet cabin which means we get there normally the crappiest one on the site no not fair these look nice though right they do they do so this one is our humble abode I'm going to show you inside no steps which was incredibly important when looking for accommodation for wobbly leg here so many requirements of having a dog skip this off it's nice and hot in here now this is not going to be a two-minute run into I'm afraid because we don't want to hype ajl and we don't want him to slip yeah tiled floor and excited dog with a bad leg never a good idea no so let's get into it now this is our kitchen area I've cooked a lovely meal here and we'll be cooking a better one even later here is the dining table we even ate up here no mess look at that bananas are for decorative effects snacks are genuinely what Emily's put there for eating shut off right into some is on the middle mad while I'm afraid into the living room area I think the way you said earlier you've got like a dog Cipher which is really cool you've got your sofa little table here there's lots of room actually and then out onto the balcony area out here TV stand up right Amanda Lee there's a cupboard with like coat hooks and stuff that door just leads you back to where we started so it's quite it's spacious but it's relatively small isn't it yes it is and let me show you the bedroom this is a nice area as well nice big bed lovely like bedside tables chest of drawers it's quite a nice bedroom actually it's bigger than one at home and then we've not been in the van more than a few days so we're not appreciating this like we normally would but in here what have you got our and it's it's what they call them Forest Shower thingies like a waterfall one yeah like a waterfall shower yeah we are not appreciating this as much as what we would normally but it's still a really nice area now there is one more thing to show you but I'm not going to show you that yet that is going to be after dinner so you'll have to wait what's the problem so my cooking skills are a little bit off point lately nothing wrong with a crispy top the oven is a lot more powerful than what I thought hmm bad Workman Blends his toes excuse me what was that that knife down so should we see if there's an Uber Eats Oh Baby I Love Your Madness incredibly beautiful [Music] you shine like gold so selfless [Music] [Music] yeah now a couple things before you get all judgy yes I am wearing a hat in the hot tub and so it was pretty much the same price to get a lodge with a hot tub than it was without so don't judge us it was a few quid extra and we decided we could deserve it yes with these little treats so why not have a hot tub where we're staying near Galway Forest is a dark skies Park and we was really really hoping one of the nights in this Lodge would get some stargazing but it has been cloudy and rainy every single night however we don't have the rain but we do have the clouds so no stars for us tonight is there no no stars for us tonight and this is a couple it's an adult's only hot tub this evening so you can no longer stay foreign [Music] this morning we are back on the road AJ is well rested and we've had another change of plans because we was going to head to the coast and Carry On on the swc 300 however it may not look like it now but there is a storm a brewing and they're giving gal false winds and being in a van at the seaside in galfall twins is not particularly fun so we're heading into the forest and I'm glad we are because the scenery is stunning oh my God it's something else honestly I can't wait for you to see it oh [Music] you can give me your freedom we've been recommending a place to go and visit so we are armed with carrots and we're going to go and see what we can find [Music] so we've come to the Red Deer range and we've heard they like carrots so let's go I'm waiting all right you do boom little baby break you up smaller things you've only got four I know and there's lots of lots of deers to feed oh look at the big one this one's got holes oh you've only got one carrot left [Music] we needed more carrots we've got four more in there for our dinner so we can spare a couple more right yeah [Music] sounds like you were morning when you ain't had a coffee [Music] foreign [Music] or your mates had all the carrots but Emily's going to get you some more I think we shouldn't overfeed them it says yeah but you haven't fed them all you gave them all to that big greedy one over there [Music] as you can see it's got a little bit busy but of course before we go we gotta have some fun facts so anyway this was first established in 1977 and it was brought here to be able to give visitors an up close and personal view of the animals out in nature and currently there's about 25 of them and they do have quite a lot of space that goes all the way up into the heels and you can feed them all good things like carrots vegetables all that type of stuff but do not feed them bread snacks as in chocolates and crisp and stuff that's for me not for them so anything Emily likes is no good for deers basically yes basically yeah but any vegetables thumbs up it's got too busy for mine that I can now so we're gonna head back down the road because on the way up we saw a waterfall yeah let's go and have a look at it foreign [Music] I think we have to stop here comes the wind it is chilly so we've come up with quite a narrow track to get here and it's not signposted from the road so luckily at the minute we've got it all to ourselves and oh my God the scenery hey [Music] I'm calling for you calling for you reaching reaching out to know if it is [Music] wrong choice of shoes what so this is Rose's waterfall and apart from the fact that it's part of a nature reserve and very beautiful that's the only fun facts I have [Music] [Music] another explanation we've just pulled over at the side of the road because we've seen some wild goats and aside from dogs and sheep their only favorite animal aren't they oh my God they are so gonna form part of my small holding small holding yeah who's paying for this but you wanna you wanna like a cabin don't you I do want a cabin if I if we get going so I can get a cabin yeah come to me goats [Music] there's a type of orange you want to be small holding yes but I want them to be naughty naughty guys yeah no I don't even know why I've attempted trainers [Music] hey if you found cakes in it you should have gone up on the stove but I'm going for the big jump ready camera in hand yeah ready ah [Laughter] I tried to think what my face look like no dip where are we going now we're going to maybe to Murray's mount [Music] foreign Louise didn't come with me up here because there is a pretty steep hill that you have to walk up to get to it but I'll tell you what she's gonna wish that she had anyway but this is Murray's Mount and it's for a person called Alexandra it's been here since 1835 and he was a professor of the Orient Oriental languages that was a bit of a miracle for me but as lovely as this man is the best thing about being up here is the views because yeah honestly I can't believe how many lovely views we've seen just in this tip of Scotland it's lovely I'm loving it what I'm not going to enjoy is the walk back down though Dan is worse than coming up for me also a bonus waterfall for you I don't know what this waterfall is but it is at the car parking for Murray's Mound so it's nice and then you can go and walk around it and stuff and that as well I think I saw people on the other side so that's that's my assumption speaking of my shoes look at this day this day then I'm not claiming that you can clean your own shoes don't get oranges bed I've washed up [Music] cheeky beer are we it's Friday night and it's Curry night it won't take you nowhere you've got to have a beer with a curry we found a cracking little spot in the forest to hide up from the bad weather the storm is starting to roll in we've been here for a couple of hours now Summer's been out she's been exploring didn't she oh loving life again Forest park-ups I think are her absolute favorite and mine too I've been back out with a big camera still no red squirrels I'm afraid I'm gonna have another go in the morning but I did get to spend some more time with a very uh displaying woodpecker so he was hiding these little nuts in the trees all kinds of cool stuff he was doing so that was pretty special and if you do want to see more of my Wildlife
