A couple months ago I actually had the pleasure of seeing Itzhak Perlman play with our local university philharmonic...they performed Mendelssohn’s 3rd Symphony...was beautiful. Then at the end he talked to us briefly and told the audience they will perform the theme...the audible gasp of the room was frisson in itself...for the next several minutes of the song the collective captivating performance was seared into my memory...an amazing night.
Powerful. The violinist dressed in red while the rest of the orchestra is in black and white is a nice homage to that incredible film.
Having played this myself on violin, can safely say this is one of the most powerful pieces ever written. Feeling the sounds from the brass and woodwinds and strings in your chest is unreal. Tears. Everytime tears.
If you're a classical music fan, you're doing yourself a serious disservice if you don't experience live classical music at least once in your life.
