hustling and bustling this morning it is super early it's a little gloomy and cloudy outside but we're going somewhere very very fun now I know that we just barely went on vacation we went to New Jersey we spent like 10 days at the beach but there's some stuff happening right now and so we're heading back to the east coast are you ready should we get on an airplane yeah are you excited okie dokie okay you pick up him and grab the backpack I'll grab everything else let's hit the road this a Leo backpack look at this on this side wow okay let's go follow daada let's go outside D go get him are you going to take your screwdriver with you okay there he is Dad okay sweater time it is actually kind of strange because it's been so hot and so sunny and just a beautiful building weather for the past like week maybe a week and a half and we've been building our butts off we've gotten so much done and it's been so nice and now like the day that we're about to leave it's supposed to rain hard for like 4 days so we weren't going to get much done if we were here anyways [Music] couch okay I'll be right back to couch all right Leo you ready yeah we're going to go on an airplane okay okay I've been waking up to go running at like 6:30 in the morning so I should be used to this but for some reason waking up to go to the airport is way more difficult than waking up to go for a run I'm so [Music] tired I'm waiting at the doorstep finally home hav't gone for too long standing here a while just take it all in radio playing [Music] aome we always have to play Crazy musical cars whenever we're trying to get to the airport because of how remote we live um and we don't ever really want to pay for like parking at the airport for long-term parking so two or three cars later now we're waiting for our Uber we are finally about to head to the airport there he is good morning [Music] morning [Music] thank you [Music] YouTube A35 I feel like that's really far away so the Salt Lake City airport is new and it's really big and there's two Terminals and now they've actually expanded Terminal A and it's like double the size but it feels like this weird portal cuz it used to just be a wall but now it's like a whole another terminal that you walk through pretty [Music] cool is it blue [Music] a a means the airplane [Music] yeah w [Music] w just a quick 4 hours later we've made it to Washington [Music] DC and then we stopped filming we actually had an entire vacation planned uh we were going to go see family in Upstate New York we were going to go up to Canada and visit aan and Beck um but everything got cancelled we had started noticing some signs with my mom um maybe like a month or two earlier she was having some balance issues her hip was hurting but then she started to slur Her speech and that's when we got really nervous and started to take things seriously as a family she started going to different types of doctors and Specialists she even went to the ER one day because we thought maybe she'd had a stroke and hadn't realized it we'd all been trying to do our best to rule out different diseases over the past few weeks but one very big scary diagnosis just kept coming back up ALS is stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis it's commonly referred to as lugar's disease and it's basically a neurodegenerative disease where the neurons that control your muscles start to die and you start to lose the ability to walk and talk eventually to breathe it's a terminal diagnosis with very few treatment options and the life expectancy is about 2 to 5 years a few days after we arrived in DC Ali decided to accompany her parents at a doctor's appointment and this actually ended up being Lesley's first official diagnosis of ALS it was Labor Day weekend which was the last week in August since then we went into overdrive we started researching treatment options for ALS different facilities across the country we got second and third opinions um we stayed really busy acting instead of feeling but my mom's case continued to be confirmed by multiple experts and was very aggressive and by the middle of September she was having more and more problems walking Her speech was getting harder to understand and my parents made the decision to move out here to Salt Lake to be closer to me and Trent and to my brother who lives in Denver the blessing the blessing and the curse I guess with ALS is that your mind remains completely healthy so you know what's happening you're aware of everything going on around you and you literally become trapped inside your body this has been happening so fast and we have barely been able to keep up with everything and so um at my mom's request we made the decision to separate this part of our life from YouTube and not talk about it at all in the videos since they've moved out here it's been amazing being able to spend time together we've seen them almost every single day brought over dinners coordinated meal drop offs um and really organize the best care we possibly can I've been going with my parents to all of the doctor's appointments and trying to be as helpful and supportive and involved as possible but we feel really helpless there's not a lot that we can really be doing it feels like um except for waiting for the inevitable we realized that there was one thing that we could do and that's that we could help take care of Russell Allie's dad and as hard as it was to accept the diagnosis and the treatment and the way that everything was happening we knew that being together actually helped and so that was why uh we decided to turn our basement into a bedroom so that Russell could come stay with us and so that's why we've been putting all of our time and energy in trying to finish our basement in time to give Russell a [Music] sanctuary good morning everybody we are waking up bright and early and very excited that we have pretty much made it Trent Brandon and Grayson have been working nonstop the past few days so hard that it's been hard to remember to film they have just been cranking things out as fast as possible because we are under a tight deadline today is one of the first deadlines we're getting carpet installed we're heading down to meet our carpet installer at the bottom of the mountain right [Music] now so we double and triple and quadruple checked with our carpet sales person to say okay we really need this to be installed but the deliverer must have a four-wheel drive truck otherwise they will not make it to our house and he reassured us multiple times oh yeah yeah it's going to be fun it's fine the driver said he's totally got it it's going to be fun and I asked him multiple times does that mean he has a four-wheel drive truck and he was a little bit evasive but he kept saying it's going to be fine which I don't know I just like I took his word for it last night I finally got the number of the driver himself and I asked him hey do you have a four-wheel drive truck otherwise you will not make it to our house and he said oh no I have a two- wheel drive truck which is fine so we are going down to the bottom of the mountain to meet him either we'll follow him up and if he has any problems we'll give him a a nudge and help him out or we will transfer all all of the materials into our truck and just take them up to the house ourselves either way we are prepared and we are determined to make this happen today it's going really fast uh not as fast as we hoped because this is probably going to be like a two or a 3 week like renovation of the basement instead of like a let's try and bust this out in a week type of thing but we're still making good progress hello hello good morning good morning how are you good how are you good good we are heading down right now we'll be there in about 5 or 7 minutes okay absolutely we'll not be here okay we'll see you in a minute okay thank you okay bye he seems like he's in a good [Music] mood here we go good morning how you doing good good man um hello good morning morning I think this truck will have a lot of trouble hello unfortunately yeah so if you guys want we can we can load everything yeah absolutely yeah we can pass the all my stuff there and uh yeah we leave there because it's not a 4 there's just some places on the road where it's just solid ice so like you'll start you know end up in the ditch we can put this St and uh okay [Music] great [Music] wow beautiful I'm so excited these guys have like almost bald tires so we're not even going to take the risk we're transferring everything into our truck we're going to take them in our truck as well everybody's going up in the mountain together and um it'll be much safer and successful that way they are reparking right now and uh we're all going to load up and head up the mountain right what right yeah okay here we go there you go thank you guys no problem you never had carpet or anything before brand new yeah okay I just finished painting yesterday okay so it's okay there's there's no trim like baseboard is that okay oh oh yeah yeah no problem yeah I think when we did uh when we did the upstairs okay I did the I did the baseboard first and then we did the carpet okay so okay it's backwards I guess I don't know still [Music] there [Music] [Music] I'll go inside and open the window okay I got the car I can put it like right here just right to the edge the Ed when you put the like okay okay all right man okay we want to stud all right well we got these guys up here we got the carpet up here there was no problems which is amazing now uh they're going to get to work they're going to start throwing down this carpet and hopefully they'll be done quick and we'll have a nice warm floor [Music] hey I heard you want to leave this place where we grew up this Old Town just put it all behind remember you and I would always find somewhere to hide when we were kids so we could see and hear the water run the river's going to cry when you're going all right so earlier today we brought the carpet guys up to our house they worked for I don't know a handful of hours getting the basement completely finished with carpet and as soon as they were done we basically had to run off so we didn't get any time to film Ally actually didn't even get to go downstairs and see it Leo hasn't seen it so we're going to do an unveiling right now what the carpet looks like [Music] stay oh it's so soft wow look at this carpet does that look nice so good that you want to touch it wow is it soft yeah oh look wow look do you like it yeah is it so soft stand here do you like it yeah it's pretty nice yeah it's getting really close to being finished we just have a a couple of things left in here some trim a couple doors the baseboard heater some Outlets then we can start putting furniture in here which will be very exciting um tomorrow we're going to go pick up our hardwood floor that's going to go in the gym and try and get that busted out and then we just got to do Trim in there and that room is basically done we didn't quite make it my mom passed away a few days later peacefully surrounded by family and so much love we had spent the whole evening around her holding hands saying prayers telling her that we loved her telling her that it was okay to let go that we would be with her and she would always be with us ALS is horrific and it's not fair just this summer my mom was gardening and cooking and laughing and playing on the ground with Leo and the life expectancy for ALS is supposed to be 2 to 5 years and for my mom it was only 6 months we've been spending every day together uh with Al's family a lot of family flew in from out of town for a burial that we had here in Salt Lake City and uh a lot of people are still in town so Russell's Not Alone um all the fames you know been been coming together every single day to spend time together and uh it's it's given us a little bit more time to try and get the bedroom done and by the time all of the family leaves from out of town the bedroom should be finished so that Russell can come and and stay with us for as long as he wants it's been a couple weeks now but I still keep expecting her to walk in with groceries ready to cook dinner or tell me hey that's my shirt give me my shirt back she was always so supportive of everything we were doing of all the adventures we went on as crazy as they sounded as resistant as my dad was to all of them and she was so happy to be a Nana to Leo and she was so so looking forward to spending more time together she was the best mom I could have ever imagined and she will always be my best friend we're really just trying to take it uh day by day and we wanted to share this video on YouTube um about lesie lesie always loved our YouTube videos she loved all of you guys she loved reading the comments um and we're going to continue to make videos that she can be proud of um not everybody loves their mother-in-law but I did and uh it's been really hard for everybody around here and we're doing our best to to keep keep it together and keep putting out videos for you guys but you know like we've
