hey there tabletop Gamers we're a pair of basic glitches and we're back with a brutal and honest review of the Pathfinder for Savage world's ultimate core box set it's been a while since we've taken you through one of our brutally honest unboxing videos where we tear into a product look at all the contents within and see if it's worth your hard-earned cash Savage worlds is a generic role-playing system that's been around for almost two decades now it's been around a while and this is a collaboration between Pinnacle Entertainment Group and paizo and they are basically sort of savage world izing first edition Pathfinder and the first edition uh Pathfinder Adventure paths for the Savage worlds system now Savage worlds is a lot different than Pathfinder it is renowned for being a flexible rules light system that can jump between light and crunchy cinematic and narrative you can play it theater of the mind you can get down nitty-gritty on tabletop with with battle mats and everything and Miniatures it can kind of do it all and it is just renowned for having all kinds of different settings it's really grown in popularity since they've come out with the most recent edition of the game which is Savage worlds Adventure Edition also known as suede we lovingly sort of jokingly refer to this as a secret edition of Pathfinder which is known in the community as Savage Pathfinder not too many people seem to be covering it or talking about it so that is why we picked this up we bought this with our own money from the lich's fund this is not sponsored in any way we just sort of thought it was a really interesting product and we kind of want to cover it for the channel and maybe dive into Savage worlds and Savage Pathfinder a little bit make a few videos about it through Kickstarter and with over 2 800 backers they made about four hundred thousand dollars a little over it's a solid success for this project I don't know if we mentioned it earlier this doesn't have anything to do with Pathfinder second edition this is all based on first edition Pathfinder all the conversions all the interpretations are taken from that version of Pathfinder so if you're looking for specific class features and things that happen in Pathfinder 2E they have not been ported over to this version of the game this looks like a ton of fun this thing is massive it's heavy there's tons of great stuff in here we're going to go over it real quick so what's this going to send me back camo if you take a peek here on the back of the box you will see that this little baby costs MSRP 199.99 200 bucks cool um is it worth it no idea we're gonna find out that is our job is to tear into this big old box let you guys know what we think and if it is worth your hard-earned money it looks awesome it looks cool but we're not gonna lie 200 is a tough pill to swallow and it it's going to have an uphill battle to impress us and damn glitch fund is hurting this better be filled and I don't mean with cardboard inserts wife I did not pay 200 for this real quick right off the bat this box contains Savage Pathfinder rules Savage Pathfinder best Cherry GM screen plus Adventure an inner C poster map the action deck the quick Chase deck the deck of Power Cards deck of status cards archetype card set one five power dials 25 bennies set of dice power templates and Status tokens it sounds like a full game ready to play Let's Take a Look if you want to keep up with our brutally honest reviews don't forget to subscribe to basic glitches for more weekly content told the dead for notifications go ahead and drop us a comment down below let us know what you think of this ultimate core box if you have it let us know what you think about Savage World Savage Pathfinder if you want us to cover this game on the channel we want to hear from you all right decent very high quality made oh this box is like the high the Box itself feels high quality no joke it's shiny glossy that's the artwork that was on the Pathfinder first edition rule book I like it yeah all right first thing we got here right on top is the map of the Inner Sea which is you know is that where we're playing that's our adventure yeah if you're in Galleria and this is sort of like the sword Coast if you're a D and D nerd in a sea sword Coast they all like these uh these Coastline piratical prodigal yeah look it up baby that's a great word Kind of Perfect to show you the world right off the bat yeah it's a folder that contains uh the entire world hmm wow single-sided it's a big boy there we go nice plenty of pirate Adventure potential a lot of land mass too oh dude the eye of yeah abandon yeah there's a Perpetual hurricane always happening in that spot yes hell yeah all right it's a giant map uh cool next we got uh looks like three cardboard things of tokens and nonsense looks like we've got all sorts of double-sided uh status tokens shaken fatigue stunned if you're aiming if you're wounded wow this system is a little deeper than I thought yeah is it nice and thick though these pretty good quality cool like board game quality yeah that's like uh Pawn quality paiso Pawn quality yeah right they're pretty thick I like them and then it looks like we have some spell templates with like blacks and apparently they're all just Fireball I love how it tells you the name of the shape too it's like cone template stream template don't cross the streams camo to cross your cone with my stream large blast template that's cool though there's some some people are really gonna love this they're gonna love having these templates playing if you get nitty gritty and you're on a battle map battle grid using Miniatures you're gonna love all of this stuff so you got it's an ultimate core set 200 bucks it's gonna have to have all this stuff and I like the quality of it it's thick it's good all right we got a set of role-playing dice here cool but what is different about Savage worlds there camo in terms of dice that we're using no d20s they give us a D20 though oh but you don't roll a D20 for most things in Savage worlds d4s to d12s and they give you a separate die cause this is called the wild yeah roll you always roll this because basically instead of even having stats or modifiers in Savage worlds you essentially just have a die type so if you're really crappy in something you roll a D4 if you're really good at something you roll a D12 sick we've got a dragon on the six nice that is awesome for most die rolls you're going to be rolling uh your stat which is a die and because you're a wild card in Savage worlds you get to roll the wild die so if you would roll a D4 and the wild die you roll them both I've rolled threes on both you would take whichever result is higher so it's really cool that they actually included the wild die here and made it specifically different and kind of personalized you do it tells you in the rules that you need to get a different colored D6 at the table so that's really cool oh cool little dials oh these are the dials power dials power dials all right this looks like X-Wing miniature moving token dials for the trolls that's from the rise of the runelords adventure there's some nice little artwork on here from the one of the adventure paths I've seen this before I don't know what they are these are 0 to 20 0 to 20. again I don't know all the rules for Savage worlds but my understanding is that if you're a magic user instead of having spell slots you essentially have like spell points or power points and you can use those to cast Powers which are essentially your spells um and I think you start off with 15. monks need these to keep track of their key need a key dial these are cool I mean they're just two pieces of thick cardboard like stuck together with a little uh a little bit of metal but it works yeah they're not like I wish they they could have been plastic they could have been a little bit higher quality but they they Glide nice and smooth they're they're fine you get how many of them they're useful you get five of them so not bad cool and then we're gonna start playing poker I feel like we play every tabletop game in this holy is that where that that is heavy oh super heavy these are are Benny's which are basically the equivalent of inspiration in d d used in the same way it's like good role playing doing something heroic uh playing up a hindrance you're encouraged to give them out pretty freely in in Savage worlds and it's more part of the core game than inspiration is for D and D they are incredible let's see how they are individually yeah I feel like most money went towards these things well they probably get the most use yeah that's true double wrapped this is kind of what they built their system around I feel like double rainbow dude they all got different oh there's a lot of different art oh that's cool oh cool there's like four or five different pieces of artwork here that that's not gonna get annoying at the table I'm sure player's gonna do that all the time of course you would why wouldn't you when I crack this thing open I saw these I thought they were going to be cheap cheap plastic like you ever have like really crappy poker chips they're just like yeah they're like thin plastic these feel weighted they feel good they have a real nice heft to them and because Benny's are so important in Savage worlds I'm glad that they didn't skimp out on these good job excellent these are these are impressive we like them all right time to get into the nitty-gritty we've got the core rule book here it's got a couple of we got three bookmarks cool stitched Into The Binding sweet I really dig this system full color very nice quality of the quality Pages the quality on the book is incredible like if you're used to like D and D this blows away like what Wizards of the Coast is putting out there beautiful oh and the the layout in the graphic design is super clean really really dig it these are really fun this is what a great idea every every freaking role-playing book in existence should come with stitched ribbons bookmark ribbons ribbons so there's like two or three different spots in the book you're like I really need I always forget this rule book Market we're staring at four decks here we have the action deck the quick Chase deck the Power Cards and the status cards they're all different depths something they're all different sizes and what a weird insert yeah this must have cost them to make an insert like this it's just cardboard though it's not like it's like oh there's something in here oh okay let's go slow take it easy take it easy it is the biggest of the deck boxes this is the oversized action cards these are basically just a regular deck of cards 54 pack of cards because they use jokers in this game but they're all they all have Graphics of Pathfinder creatures and characters on them instead of just playing with their regular deck of cards to kind of theme it all have it all match the Pathfinder lore those are big friggin cards yeah those aren't even like tarot size I don't know what the hell size we dive into that and see see how big they are it's not even said well [Music] wow really big wow it's got no more wrapping on it now we're seeing why it costs 200 is it cool graphics though great art see those are much more fun to play with say I would want to play this game but I would feel pulled out of immersion by having poker chips and a deck of cards on the table I think each one's unique but again they have so much artwork to play with yeah I bet a lot of you are wondering why this game comes with a deck of poker cards like a standard deck of playing cards because in Savage worlds and in Savage Pathfinder this is what they use for initiative what ends up happening is the game master hands out one card to each player and then you go down in order from like highest to lowest you start calling out like Ace king queen Jack 10 and you go in that is how turn order is determined for the specific suits are higher than others right there yeah it's a better priority there is a priority if if people have multiple uh of the same like if there's two queens and you draw the same thing for the monsters but the catch is that if you draw one of the Jokers then you get to get like plus two to all your roles and you can choose to go whenever you want you can interrupt anyone's turn even it's crazy really inventive uh initiative system I'm like starting to get the bug right now or like a third of the way through this box and I want to play so that's a good sign yeah I feel good so let's do status cards okay well they put it upside down I'm disappointed oh no they packed it wrong no you it all up zero status cards I don't know why I said status weird woundeds we get wounded a lot in this game and these are the most common shaken not stirred cool oh there's actually not a lot of different statuses which I'm happy to see I think they all sort of make sense the weird one is shaken so I think earlier I was telling you like when you lose your hit points you go below zero you become shaken and you can spend like a Benny to just immediately get rid of that so it's it's like a negative status effect where if you're shaking during your turn you don't do anything you just basically have to roll to become unshaken or you can just be like I'm gonna spend a Benny and I'm not shaking cool because there's like it's almost like fear but not fear you're not afraid you're just shaking yeah you because like again you you actually got stabbed you're like you stopped me yeah that's cool yeah there's absolutely no fear and that's more like you don't take actions except for running away moving and free actions yep so like individually this might be 15 bucks does it say on the back of that box probably not I believe you can buy all this stuff separately oh it does yeah 15 books so freaking good 15 bucks 15 bucks 15 bucks could literally just add up the prices that they've given us and it equals the Box 50 bucks it's just a storage container for your yeah next up we have a deck of Power Cards all the power cards from the core rule book of Pathfinder for Savage worlds are now at your fingertips 65 cards let's take uh 15 bucks um yeah 14.99 this is such a small little detail but they do a little cutout right here so you can just grab the box and pull it like good like very simple yeah these all have the same backs well but frig that's not good what happened did oh no was it it's so it's so long that they did on two cards no that's hilarious Arcane protection is so long that it's it's two cards wow well we're not gonna resize all of the cards just because one power needs two cards I could just put it in the bag and not have a backing to it hey it works I guess it seems to be the only one like that that's funny but in this game you have uh PowerPoints which is the cost to cast the power slash spell gives you a range gives you duration tells you which school it's from and then it goes into great detail telling you every single thing that the spell does so like if you cast blind it gives you that gives you the area of the effect it's really cool the magic system is probably one of the weirdest parts of of savage Pathfinder because you can cast spells for their spell points but then you can just like you can boost them if you want to spend more oh nice to get like it's like oh it's gonna like it's like you cast this magic Missile or or a fireball and then like you cause it you're like I want it to explode and like I want a bunch of to catch fire and they're like the GM can be I think the GM can just be like well that's just like another five uh power points you're like sure it sounds like spell burning a little bit Yeah it lets you just do cool stuff with your spells and be very creative which I'm all about yeah yeah it seems like every piece of the system they were like okay how can we take this and turn it cinematic yes yes narrative and cinematic seems to be the main focus here catch would you like the narrative Chase dog this is like rules oh what oh we have a quick Chase deck yeah hell yeah this is uh comes with some rules for how to use the narrative Chase deck a fast furious fun set of rules to add action-packed chases to your games of savage Pathfinder six again these are they look like they're playing cards they have suits and they have um faces yeah faces suits and stuff like kings Queen yeah they are joking it's a it's a full deck is it the 54 because it's gonna be up 54 because they get the two jokers follow me oh you tumbled oh you tripped is an obstacle I I love this though because like I feel like Chase rules in most tabletop role-playing games they're so bad because it's like it doesn't have flavor right like it doesn't have any like they try to get something through they try to push it could this could this be like our favorite system ever and we just don't know it it might be everything is different every card is different everyone is different cool I'm getting more and more excited they were like all right for our Chase rules come up with 54 ways to fall behind or get ahead in the chase dope we gonna have to play this I think so all right so we've made it through the first layer um and it seems like there's just packaging oh yeah it's like a secret there's hidden item in there compartment in this what do we got here Arch archetype card set one so these I believe let me see them sizzies I believe these are just like all of the oh okay is it still cardstock though it seems like it it's pretty thick it's not just like oh I'm stuck together a little little battle damage oh no something tells me we're gonna use the out of them anyway cool so this has got all of the iconics um and it tells you so you could literally just start playing with this you could hand somebody this is that's a character it's a character sheet whole character sheet in the palm of your hands that's how simple the system is some of the abilities in here are kind of copy paste copy pasta from Pathfinder first edition jack of all trades Arcane background nice just been Savage Savage World desire world desized the quality of these is incredible they're big they're thick um really again it sort of nails home the fact that you're buying a complete system for two hundred dollars all right here we have the game Masters screen and hollow's Last Hope Adventure um this retails for 19.99 according to this little uh this little baby right here well I like it looks like we're fighting werewolves right that's my jam this is a cool this is like hey it's like a landscape style yeah I like it the slim version slim down probably because there's not as many rules as you need yeah um I like this I actually like this size me too it's weird because like I almost feel like dungeon master screens or game master screens are like they're either Too Tall or it's like way too long it's probably one and a half this yeah they're probably around here normally the Pathfinder 2E is five panels it's five panels wow so much stuff it's like oh here you got combat options situational rules tells you how to do damage there is fear there's a fear table do you know what I really like about this I just thought you can roll you can roll yeah right there you don't have to like ah yeah you don't need a tower on the other side of the screen oh my god really thick uh cardboard it's in black and white which is kind of unfortunate looks like they cheaped out a little bit on the on the coloring back here yeah I could have used some maybe color coding gives you all the schools of magic there's reaction tables which is one of the best tables in all of tabletop gaming why does not every single Why didn't like d d 5e have like a reaction table which is essentially when you come up against uh NPC villain monster or creature you roll to see what it's what its reaction is towards you it could actually be friendly it could be hostile it could be helpful could be cooperative this adds so much emergent uh narrative to all your to all your games I love this it's because it in D you're assumed that you're just going to be attacking everything and I think in this it's a different mindset right maybe then we have a small little Adventure that retails for 19.99 called uh oh this is part of the game master screen so hollow's last hope the town of Falcons Hollow needs a miracle 31-page Adventure how's it set up are there creatures in the adventure I'm looking for a goddamn index that's kind of shitty look at that's oh the creatures are in there the creatures are like right there as you're fighting them a giant mosquito answers to questions I like that tells you like helps you out with role playing a little 30-page adventure to get you started hollow's last hope Falcons Hollow needs a miracle so I wish I was on the front well they're selling you the game master screen so yeah it's kind of like oh okay it's like when you buy it it's like it comes with them with that yeah I do like that this is a tiny small little Adventure it's just like it's like comic book it's just like staple bound uh but I would I probably would run this because it's not like 250 Pages like what a typical d d Adventure is these days this is digestible I bet you could probably get like there's actually a lot here I bet you could probably get like two three four sessions out of this maybe um very cool the last but not least is the bestiary retails for 29.99 30 bucks again all these books they have amazing um they're amazing quality they have like UV spotting on on the covers and stuff so it's like shiny and reflective the layout is really great they're easy to read you want to be blown away just like flick through to like the stat blocks and see how small they are and how many they fit on a single page just like or like any random page oh wow look at that bug bear bug bear it's like a hat it's like a page and a half and then you get a bun Yip and then a cat and a cat large large cat Centaur there's like five creatures per per two-page spread it's great that they're not wasting any space on the page and it's great that there's like very specific things that each creature does the large cat which could be any large cat you want tiger lion uh Panther has a pounce low light vision bite and Claw yeah so like it gives you a little blurb about what the creature is maybe where you encounter it and then it just runs through the stats the stat blocks are literally like they're like this big they're like they're so small yeah dark mantles right there let's put it all back in the box I guess now it's a jigsaw puzzle not a lot of wasted space no again this thing is jam-packed full of stuff we're gonna we're gonna pack it all back in um we've got some strange sized boxes and containers that they all packed into one let's do some maths um yeah we'll do that real quick and then we'll let you know all right we did the maths basically everything in that box is paid for with the 200 price tag everything in there adds up to 200 and then it looks like we get these tiles and tokens and dials and the dice as an added bonus on top of it for free that's what it's looking like so it's very close to the 200 price range if you just kind of bought it all everything separately paid for shipping yeah for taxes you're probably saving like 20 or 30 bucks with that but if you bought it all at one time probably not so what's the final verdict on this bad boy I'm kind of lost I was fully expecting to be like this is not worth two hundred dollars that's so much Goddamn money it is a lot that's a lot of money but we have comparisons right we thought about this so if you were going to get into Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition and you were gonna buy the Three core rule books that's a hundred and fifty dollars yeah 150 and you're just getting three books if you're trying to get the D and D equivalent of all the content that this provides it would be more I would say it may even be like three or four hundred dollars to try to get everything that oh if you're getting the campaign case the creature case uh the M screen DM screen you're getting the cam the campaign case creatures the campaigns case terrain those are sixty dollars a pop yeah um then you got to get a battle map you still gotta get that for this though I wish they kind of included a battle map yeah but a lot of people have them yeah maybe swapped out that that ten dollar map for something else yeah that was almost unnecessary that was my least favorite thing in here yeah so here's the proposition you can buy the core rule book and the best Jerry for like I think it's fifty dollars and thirty dollars so it's eighty dollars you have everything you need right there to play Savage Pathfinder all you need is a deck of cards which almost every single human being in the world has lying around their house and something to track Benny's they could be Skittles they could be it's like I I use my bennies I eat a Skittle or it could be Starburst or it could be pennies you don't have to have these really nice weighted poker chips is that the better way to get into this game and again this is kind of a hard purchase for a game master because let's be honest it's like it's us who's buying it yes we need a group that's already hyped up to play this game ready to jump in and because they're not going to contribute to the 200. I was gonna I was gonna ask that so here's the proposition right I know a lot of people are going to be like well my group loves to try new systems and we all decide to split the costs so if you have six people and you're dividing this cost evenly amongst you I can't do basic arithmetic because I'm a 30 30 bucks 35 bucks each if you had six people yeah 33 dollars to to play and you're getting a ton of stuff yeah yeah like buddy if you run it we'll pitch in 30 bucks each that's that's a way to approach it I guess right you're like hey I want to run this and I want to go Hog Wild I want to get you guys all souped up Jazz to be playing with all the goodies I don't know I still don't know if I'm at a full recommend I don't know if it's easier to just say get the core rule book for like 50 bucks I think in our analysis before I would be the player that contributes 30 bucks playing this and having someone run it I would also run it myself I think you would love running this but I would not have bought this for 200 also so but if you saw this video if you're watching basic glitches and you see this video you see everything that's in it yeah and if I knew I had to get a group together um not to pitch in but I would pay the 200 if I had a group that was souped up and ready to go um I'd love to dive into this I love narrative dice rules in general I loved edge of the Empire Star Wars RPG Dice and the thing I didn't like about their dice is that they were exclusive and had the weird symbols when that took away the feeling of uh players having their own dice which is very important to just like tabletop and RPG in general is like you you have your own dice and there's there's power and personality and having that kind of took removed that do you think the contents inside are worth the money do you think you're getting 200 worth of stuff I think so I guess I think uh like what you said beside the map yep it was kind of useless but I loved everything inside I loved all the tools tokens you know the bennies they're fun those bennies are I feel like a those are really really high quality the slim profile DM screen I'm an absolute love with quality on the books it seems like I could sit on a couch and have a good read with the rule system they're very high quality even this box is thick boy two C's I wasn't disappointed with any one thing beside the map in here besides the map the poster map the rules are solid I we are going to play this system we're going to come back and let you know how it is uh at the table because we do not like to give reviews of of game systems without actually trying them out first so we're gonna do that but I think I'm gonna recommend this because I'm looking at it at prices are going up on everything d d and Pathfinder they've been those new Pathfinder books that are coming out I think they're 60 60 they're 60 a pop uh I know D D books they announced that they're going up the prices of everything is more expensive so I don't think this is really outside the range of what the competition is doing and like you said you're getting all sorts of really fun stuff with it so I think if you are like all in and you're like I really want to do Savage worlds but I really still want to play like a Dungeons and dragon Style game because Savage worlds is uh it's generic it can be anything and there's tons of different settings and they have one of the best settings in role playing you have Valerian you have Pathfinder so there you have it uh Against All Odds Savage Pathfinder the ultimate core box Edition gets full recommend from the basic glitches I really did not expect that because I opened this up prior to doing this video uh all I did was I looked at the rule book everything else was sealed as you saw we sort of peeled it open uh on on camera but I just read the rules yeah so I left the rest of it to us to discover together and I'm kind of glad we did because this is why we do these These are brutally honest we are not paid to talk about these products we're giving you our honest opinion as Gamers as people that love TableTop role playing and just love TableTop gaming in general so if you're looking for a new system Savage Pathfinder I guess I guess we're recommending it [Laughter] well you heard it here we give it a big thumbs up recommend go try this product out thanks for sticking around to the end of the video you want to check out more of our basic reviews go click on the playlist over there if you want to see our thoughts on Pathfinder 2E proper we tried it out and you can find our thoughts right here later glitches bye foreign
