News Daily. Welcome to San Diego News daily. I'm Jackie Correia, Mexico. Police say they have recovered four bodies in the area where three surfers went missing last week. State prosecutors would not reveal if the bodies were those of Jack Carter Road and brothers Jake and Callum Robinson, who had been in Baja California for a surfing trip. Police did say that they've obtained arrest warrants for three people who are being investigated in connection with the case. On Wednesday, Callum's mother posted on a community Facebook page asking for help finding her sons. People who know Carter and Callum, both of whom lived in San Diego, say the whole ordeal is concerning. It's tragic, very tragic. Callum was a good guy. Surfer. I knew he played rugby and he's from Australia, like a family guy, I would say, because I met his parents when he first moved in. It's probably really hard for them. And it's just. It's heartbreaking. Carter Road went to school at Point Loma Nazarene University, and many we spoke to say he has a heart for service. Jake and Callum's parents released a statement saying Callum has been living in the U.S. following his dream of becoming a professional lacrosse star, and that Jake left Australia two weeks ago to visit his brother. They also said they take comfort knowing they are all together. Hundreds of UCSD students remain at the pro-Palestinian encampment this morning, as day four of their protest is now underway, while those on the ground report the demonstration has been peaceful, organizers did cancel this weekend's Sun God Music Festival, citing security concerns. Yesterday evening, a rabbi led a peace vigil not far from the camp. Students and faculty of all faiths were invited to attend. County leaders are trying to figure out how to use roughly $8.5 billion to best serve those who live in San Diego. They've just unveiled their recommended budget for the next fiscal year. One of the major spending areas is focused on housing homeless San Diegans. Just under $99 million would help fund the Regional Homeless Assistance Program, a new safe parking site and other initiatives. The budget plan also includes more than $1 billion for behavioral health services, including a residential and outpatient service for substance abuse. The budget proposal will be presented to the Board of Supervisors in a couple of weeks. More green space is coming to the heart of downtown, but in order to make room for the new East Village Park, a couple of historic homes had to be relocated. The city has been working for nearly two decades to transform a four acre dirt lot into a large park called East Village Green. It will have a jungle gym, a splash pad, an off leash dog area, a stage for events and a new community center with an underground parking garage. But two historically designated homes were on the land of the future park along Gene 14th streets, so the city brought them, bought them, and worked with local historians to put the houses on dollies and move them around the corner. We knew that these were both wood frame structures, which are the lightweight and fairly easy to move, as long as they're stabilized and, and moved appropriately and, it went without a hitch. They both moved in just a few hours, you know, down the street and around the corner and onto their new foundations. The homes are now on F Street, and they weren't in the best shape when the city acquired them. So now they're being fully restored. As for the park project, it was first presented as part of the community plan in 2006, but funding didn't come until 2022. Construction finally started last August. City leaders say they are relieved to finally be to finally be in this home stretch. It was designed with the community input many years of community input. In fact, over ten years now, there have been dozens of community workshops and events that that went into the planning for this park. It's long anticipated, and it's really going to be a central gathering spot for downtown. And especially for the East Village, it's certainly is something that this community has long desired, and it's part of the type of infrastructure that we are focused on investing in here in downtown San Diego, East Village Green will be the largest city owned park in San Diego, is expected to open in mid to late next year. Playing the piano isn't easy, and it's downright impossible if you can't hear NBC 7's Joe Little introduces us to a young piano player who's proving all you need is a little help from medical science. Adrian Rhodes is a few months into her music career. She started way earlier than expected. After all, Adrian's only eight. That laugh. You can also hear that joy in her notes. Music is something that I like to do. Adrian pulls inspiration from the classics Beyonce and Olivia Rodrigo. I mean, she amazes me every day. She practices twice a day. Adrian's mom, 10 says her daughter lost her hearing when she was four. And it kind of made me frustrated that I couldn't hear a single thing that people were saying. It was tough because, you know, hearing is such an integral part of a child's development. Yet here she is at age eight, thanks to this device on her head. So Adrian uses cochlear ossia devices, their bone conduction implants. Doctor Catherine Moyer is an audiologist at Rady Children's Hospital. She met Adrian four years ago. She couldn't talk. She didn't have speech. It's hard to learn when you can't hear. Adrian was originally fitted with a less effective band that helped her hear, because she had to be 12 to be fitted with a far more effective Osseo device. It connects to a magnet just under the skin. Rady children's Doctors helped Adrian get into a clinical trial using this Osseo system on younger children. We jumped right on board. So did Adrian. Kind of. Well, I was kind of steered because I had her do a lot of surgeries for them. The surgery paid off. So did the trial. Now the age to get a similar device is now five, not 12. That's seven years of valuable learning. That means that these children, school age children, are going to be able to hear her, even though Adrian, who's still a kid sometimes doesn't listen. It's selective hearing. So it's piano lessons with Erica Calvert at the Air Shine Music School in Clairemont. It's incredible what the technology has done and where it's brought her. Every parent wants the best for their kids and, you know, just seeing your child transform to what you know they could be is overwhelming. It's something Adrian loves to hear. Joe Little .
