[Music] all right hey everybody we're about a third of the way from clemson to dc we drove for 300 miles and now we're supercharging at this gas station here so you can see all the pumps in front of us and there's about eight superchargers we finally got past our first thousand miles of free supercharging and you can see right here it's ticking up it's at almost eleven dollars when we got here we were at a hundred miles range we've been here for maybe ten minutes ten twelve minutes and it's already added 130 miles so when some people ask like oh my gosh are you gonna have to sit and charge forever it's currently charging at 527 miles per hour at 128 kilowatts so this is a 250 kilowatt charge station the first 10 minutes was charged at 250 kilowatts as the battery starts to get to the higher portion it slows down a little bit so in order for us to continue our trip it actually says right here 10 minutes because when we initially mapped out where we're going our next supercharger is chester virginia so technically if we left right now we'd get there and the battery would be at zero percent so the reason it's it's telling us we need to wait nine minutes is because they want you to have at least some reserve when you get there you know they don't cut it super close so navigating this screen is quite easy so you can see right here it told us to get off and come to this supercharger station if you switch it to satellite these are where the the charge stations are we're going to walk over to chick-fil-a which is right here that's not even on the screen chick-fil-a is right there now to talk a little bit about the controls of the car um one thing that's really cool is when you're driving down the road the suspension shows the live statistics so right now it's stable but this will adjust i think hundreds or thousands of times per second and we have it on comfort we're driving on a long road trip so that's important to us you can also do an advance and adjust the ride and handling separately but we just set on comfort the auto pilot is right here so we have navigate on autopilot um traffic light and stop sign control and then summon we had those turned off but i got them turned back on and we had the model 3 and i know something that sandy and i have been complaining about is we miss the energy the trip energy display so typically when you take a trip it's going to display in graphical form how much energy you're using and whether or not you're beating their predictive model or performing worse than a predictive model now what that does it just shows up here so since this video started now we'll show up at our next supercharger in chester virginia with three percent of charge here's our final destination arrival time including that 35 minutes of charge time so essentially we're gonna drive for nine hours and it's gonna require us to charge for 25 minutes here six of which i've been talking and then 35 minutes in chester virginia and then we'll arrive in laurel maryland with 18 um so it's no mystery that people are scared about oh how am i gonna how am i gonna travel with the range anxiety this vehicle with 400 miles of range i think is just like the exact perfect amount and um yeah we'll get into a little bit more of the controls and how it is using this um but for now it's a little overview okay here we are um finally i get a chance to drive um we've just uh chick-fil-aed our way through the south and uh we're headed on now to maryland [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so anyway we're driving the three and the question is which one did i like best the three the y or this uh this s so um it's hard to say because quite frankly the cars drive pretty much the same the uh the comfort level at least in the front seats is equivalent um i'm not a big fan so far the rear seat of the s but uh but the front seats just as comfortable as what i had in the three and the y now the y we didn't get a chance to go out too much on but um the limited amount of time that i got to drive the model y like was like two days or something like that i really did notice a difference in the uh driving characteristics of the car and that's and then later on we found out that that the the big castings were back there and that made a big difference on on keeping it stable so so so far my first choice obviously is this one simply because i really like the i like the yolk style steering wheel um i like some of the features i like the idea that my hand up here i can do use the turn signal i don't have to hunt for anything um everything seems to be obvious i really hate steering wheels that cover up the uh the front uh the front instrumentation so this really works out well for me i'm i'm pretty happy with pretty much everything that goes on here um the three uh is is a nice car uh the y is probably the one that i would if i was going to buy an ordinary like a sedan i'd probably get the why because it's the right price and it handles remarkably well doesn't go as fast as this and and that's probably one of the reasons i wouldn't buy an s was because probably losing my license in about a week so um so my first choice might be the why um but as far as comfort and if if i had to drive a sedan and and i had the money pretty hard to beat this i mean there's so many features and functions so many nifty little things i love this steering wheel i wonder if they're going to be bringing this as an option maybe to the maybe they could bring this as an option to the y and the three and i'm really hoping it's going to be in my cyber truck because that is really and truly that's what i i need and want i i've been driving jeeps my whole life um and uh the cyber truck is probably what i i need or want in the future now just it did so i was just going to mention when we went around that corner that was a different experience i don't know what happened there but it was struggling to think about what it wanted to do that's the first time i've experienced that i never had that in the three for sure it slowed on the curve which you should should do in some occasions uh not when i'm on the high side why would i slow down i mean it's not like this you're not going to get your tires breaking away i don't know what that did but we've already had a phantom stop on my trip um did you get any of those it was a phantom brake check not a full stop well not a phone yes a phantom braking um and i actually i don't think i corey experienced that in the three when we were driving around but i don't think i had that but this is the first time that i've had something odd happen uh going around a corner or going around a curve and uh and since i got in i i did have the uh the phantom breaking so uh but so far that's that's it and i do love this uh i like driving these cars because you can you can look around a little bit you don't have to have your head glued to the to the dots and quite frankly i just noticed that i'm looking straight ahead when in actuality after you get in this for a while you start looking around to enjoy the rest of the the rest of the view [Music] [Laughter] sergeant hartley with the high school police department you see driver's licenses you realize how fast you were going uh i thought it was 135. what kind of a car is this that can go that fast a model s plaque can you explain what that is i don't understand i've never heard of that before three carbon fiber sleeve internal permanent magnets well 110 kilowatt hour battery 400 volts well that being the case i think i'll have to give you a warning that's a hell of a vehicle have a good one wait a minute can't you throw them in irons or something isn't there a flogging station come on [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so [Music] [Music] all right sandy we're here in laurel maryland um we're gonna do a recap of day three and how was the turnout in maryland i would say it's phenomenal i have no clue how many people were there i uh i couldn't see how deep the crowd was but uh i mean it was uh it was a big crowd and a whole bunch of us went to dinner as well it was it certainly was a a monumental kind of uh kind of operation i i've i don't think we've hit any not even in california did we hit anything as big as that i was really really impressed and they were really excited yeah yeah and not that it's a competition but i think that is the number one turnout that we've had in these meet and greets and why don't you tell them a little bit about the trick they played on me when i pulled up well uh there'll be some uh some some video but uh but anyway we pulled in and corey was cruising around we had to go to the upper level of the parking lot so we got up there and when uh when we got up and parked the car we lit uh or actually the cop car in back of us lit up we didn't know it was a cop car lit up the guy walked over tapped on the window and he said i got i nailed you guys at 95 miles an hour going down highway 95. give me your license and your insurance and your ownership and corey about i saw i i actually couldn't believe what i was hearing because i knew he didn't do any 95 but i was really shocked with the with a cop car and everything else it was a joke it was a prank we tried to recreate it and hopefully we'll have some some it was really hard to believe because we were stuck in very slow yeah traffic and we didn't take 95. we took the back highways through virginia to avoid 95 so they assumed 95. i think we got on it for a little bit but anyway it was pretty effective and corey certainly was uh was affected and i'm telling you i was in the front seat uh because we had just switched driving and uh and uh and and i like i said uh initially i was shocked and then i couldn't i couldn't help it i wanted to burst out laughing i uh i was really uh it was really a cool uh a cool trick anyways this guy is also a tesla a tesla owner i didn't catch his name or his badge or anything like that but really a cool guy really a cool cop it was uh it was a lot of fun a lot of fun the drive from clemson to maryland went pretty smooth a lot of traffic through charlotte area cars everywhere we got yeah we got past charlotte and driving through virginia was pretty nice yeah absolutely we got off on a on a highway to kind of cut through a little bit more eastern to avoid dc proper yeah and it was nice rolling divided highways but sandy we were on one of those divided highways we're trying to make a reservation for a hotel tell us what the car did when you unbuckled your seat belt to try and get your wallet oh my god i mean uh a red face jumps out of the screen uh like in front in front of uh in front of me um so it was it it it was great yeah grab the wheel grab the wheel all this other stuff everything uh everything you could imagine that uh that could go to shock the piss out of you um happened and uh and the red face long red face thing that was uh that was truly amazing i uh i definitely was paying attention when that thing went off so it wasn't a face it was a picture of the yolk going back and forth really all i saw was a face and uh and i was like i said i was trying to get my my wallet out to pay for the uh to get the credit card trying to drive and uh and having whatever the heck going on in the front of me it was uh it was exciting so if you have a tesla and you're driving do not unbuckle your seat belt so there you go i've never seen anything like that you were on autopilot navigate on autopilot i was that that kicked out immediately well i don't know whether i was or not but i because i think i stepped on the brake to bring it out so i was just driving but i mean when that thing went off holy mackerel uh it's like the end of the world it's very very they do not they do not want a driver abandoning their post and that's what i gather well i that and the fact that they want the the driver to be relatively safe and uh you know everybody talks about make sure that your seat belt is buckled up well in this car they let you know continuously if you're not buckled up so when people come along from nisha and say things like oh the car is not safe really who else has got any features like that nobody i know of nobody i i never even heard of anybody like an occasional chime here or there well the chimes go on but then they get louder and louder and uh then there's a little thing in the but i've never unbuckled uh before while driving and uh that i can tell you that does not happen in any vehicle that i've ever been in ever that was a real surprise so don't do that don't test it it's uh it's really exciting but don't do it so while the car's on autopilot i wanna talk about a couple features because we just finally activated ours um setting follow distance to one instead of five allows the car this car to follow closer than i remember the model three which i like i felt like the model three on navigate on autopilot was so far back that a lot of cars would come in and get in front of you they like didn't show intent that you were following with traffic that's nice and now with the buttons on the on the yoke for changing lanes it's much easier to just move your thumb around than reach your fingers forward and do the turn signal left and left and right yeah i did notice on one of the screens there's a toggle that's coming in the future that says change lanes without confirmation that would be nice particularly for someone like me who likes to drive in the slow lane and then pass and then get back to the slow lane some folks don't like that idea um and that would be me so i i want to stay in the lane i want to stay in i have a turn signal and that's what i want to do i want to use the turn signal and for me driving this car with the yoke and with the the buttons where they are i think it's brilliant i absolutely loathe the buttons that are on the back of a steering wheel this doesn't have any and its other cool design feature is that the stitching on the yoke the steering yoke is is on the back most people go crazy trying to make sure that the stitching on a steering wheel is true and plumb and most of the times it's it's french stitching so like a triple stitch and this doesn't have that and that's from a manufacturing standpoint and a quality standpoint and a customer satisfaction standpoint is a much it's a nice trick i like it yeah well that's all we got no we got uh we one of the things that we really really got shocked at was we took an extra 15 or 20 minutes to to charge up and our trip was reformulated and added like about an hour and a half to the to the trip because that's when dc goes crazy and everybody's on the road and so we got rerouted we took we took back roads basically all the way up up to here and uh it's great uh it was fine we didn't have any problems but man i can't even imagine what it would have been like if we would have gone through dc it was just solid red what are we doing here so today what we're doing is we're going to ship some stuff home we we decided we don't want to try and take anything into into canada so we have our two bottles of our two bottles of uh tequila they're going to go home um and uh and our dirty laundry yeah for packing yeah thanks to the maryland club tesla club they gave us a few six packs of beverages sandy hasn't even seen him i haven't seen him yet my gosh well i i wasn't uh i would spend most of my time yakking i uh i gotta tell you the uh they had a zillion questions and they were coming from every angle from uh you know really technical types of things that we would not expect from a normal crowd like engineering kind of technical things and uh all the way from that to religion and politics so anyways we're gonna pack up and uh and shove off and uh so stay tuned lots more to come [Music] you
