Am I the only one that saw The Last Samurai as more of a stranger in a strange land movie than a white savior flick? The outcome was going to be the same regardless of whether or not he was there, he didn't save anyone and they did more to help him than vice versa. That isn't to say there wasn't a ton of cringe and what not but he felt more like an easy anti-hero to introduce the more interesting characters.
Also that was 100% Watanabe's movie.
