San Ygnacio, a Historical Treasure with Tremendous Potential Along the Rio Grande

[Music] [Music] so today i'm just south of the city of laredo and a gorgeous little historic community with a strong mexican flavor called san ignacio it was first settled in 1830 this is the oldest town in zapata county there have been multiple border skirmishes in this town over the years from the civil war period through the early 1900s and i'm standing here in the town square and all around me are beautiful old stone buildings so let's go explore this town look at this beautiful church right off the town square built in 1875 so it appears that the visitor center museum is closed right now so this was originally built by manuel benavides trevino in 1881 restored by his grandson one of my big attractions to this place is the historic trevino uribe rancho it's basically a private fort or a fortified home known as fort trevino the first portion was constructed in 1830 by jesus trevino later his son-in-law added to the structure so this was a custom house from 1800 to 1969 wow the longer i walk the more i'm impressed with this little town of san ignacio gorgeous place and there's the rio grande below aka rio bravo so we finally made it to the trevino uribe rancho gorgeous historic structure like i said this basically served as a personal fort or fortified home built in 1830 there's even an 1851 sundial so this kind of shows you the layout of the fort this town is incredibly beautiful it reminds me a lot of the pueblos magicos that you see down in mexico in other words it's a magic town so this is a 145 year old home from 1873 here's another 145 year old home martinez family built in 1873. i'm not sure if there's another town this size in texas with so many beautiful historic homes here's another one from 1870. don trinidad uribe beautiful historic looking homes all around this town they're really taking good care of this place [Music] [Laughter] [Music] so after walking around this place for a little while i have to say san ignacio may be the most beautiful town of this size in the whole state of texas definitely one of my favorites so far you
