shelves and left the store with no attempt to pay. >> San Francisco's Anchor Brewing has a new owner. >> The popular brewery closed down last July due to economic struggles. KTVU Crystal Bailey has been following the story today and has more on this impact on San Franciscans. >> Well, it's America's first craft brewery opening during the Gold rush. It's been closed for almost a year, and now the community is reacting to the news that the beer is coming back with new leadership at the helm. Anchor Brewing is America's first craft brewery, persevering through Catastroph, earthquakes, fires and the prohibition era at 128 years old, the popular brew business was killed by economic difficulties, shutting its doors last July. Now it's being revived by Chobani CEO and founder Hamdi Ulukaya. The billionaire bought all of anchor's assets, including the beers, trademark recipe, brewing equipment and properties, in a video shared on social media. Ulukaya says he spoke to four employees who worked there before closed. >> When I told them that I'd like to be part of bringing this company and our beer, this dream back to life. They couldn't be more excited and I couldn't be more honored. >> Critics are concerned because Ulukaya is not from the Bay and doesn't do beer, but he promises to preserve the brand's history and heritage, keeping the company in San Francisco to that corporate business expert Mitchell Mark says why discourage money coming into the city? >> This is someone who's going to keep a lot of jobs here. This is someone who's going to keep a lot of pride here. >> Many San Franciscans welcoming the beer back with open arms. >> It's nostalgic. I think it's great that San Francisco has its own things that are that are unique to San Francisco. >> San Francisco is not the same without steam beer. So they got to bring it back. You know, when you get your chowder, you got to have a steam beer with it. That's the way it goes. >> Including Mayor London Breed, who wrote in a statement on X, this is not just an investment in San Francisco. It's a recognition of what makes our city truly special. Our history, our institutions and our people. And Governor Newsom reacting. There's a lot to love in San Francisco and now a historic favorite. The nation's oldest craft beer is back. >> I think the best time of San Francisco is yet to come. I can't wait to get back to work on my part with Anchor Brewery. >> Now, the price of the sale was not disclosed and there is not currently a date for reopening, but obviously very exciting for folks who like that steam beer. Yeah. And a lot of people are talking about it too that live in the craft world, especially in places in Texas. Like I have friends over there. They said,
