hey happy Friday the beard is growing again the replacement neon is on its way and nature is healing this week Samsung launched some new products and they're pretty Shameless Tesla got caught cheating in the funniest way possible and there's a new space rocket in town or I guess in space welcome to the Friday [Music] checkout this video was sponsored by brilliant okay from my first story of the week Samsung had its big unpacked event and we have to talk about the good the meh and the Aly start with the good though easily the biggest upgrade came for the Galaxy watch 7 it might look the same as its predecessor externally but it has a whole new chip that is ridiculously more than three times as fast as the last one the watch has fancy new dual bent GPS and also a completely revamped bioactive sensor with a bunch of new colorful LEDs that should be more accurate and should also be able to track multiple industry firsts like sleep apnea and advanced glycation end products which supposedly help to track metabolic health I don't exactly know what the last one is supposed to do but it sounds great and the watch still starts at just $300 next the flip also got a pretty decent upgrade there's a bigger 4,000 Milli battery a shallower crease better cooling an improved camera and a new chip and while the price did go up by 100 bucks the starting memory was also bumped to 12 and 256 gigs too so I guess this is clearly Samsung's priority foldable firmly in the mid category is the Galaxy watch ring which actually as a product looks really nice it has a titanium frame about 7 Days of claimed battery life and also a thinner designed than most of its competitors but at $399 it is inexplicably more expensive than a watch that also has like a whole screen and stuff there's thankfully no subscription fee unlike the aura ring the competitor but that's still a whole lot of money and also questionable is the new fold the outer screen is bigger due to Slimmer bezels and then the phone also got a bit thinner and also 14 G lighter to the point where it now weighs practically the same as the Galaxy s24 Ultra Plus there is a less visible crease in the new chip but all of those are minor updates and somehow the price is now inexplicably increased to $1,899 I don't understand what Samsung is doing they're increasing the price improving the product so slowly and the competition is so aggressive out there I don't think this is going to end well for them but then we arrive at the ugly which to me is all about the Shameless copying the buds 3 are extremely obviously designed to mimic airpods while the buds 3 Pro are clearly going after the airpods pro what else and this is visible in the name the case and the earbuds as well I get that adding a stem allows them to get better microphone placements and I like that the transparent lid lets you actually see whether your buds are inside the case but I don't see why they had to copy the design so hard especially when Samsung already had a clear and recognizable design language before this and even worse than that is the Galaxy watch Ultra it has the same Ultra naming the same orange accent the same titanium frame the same sapphire crystal over the display the same action button the same band basically all of them by the way more or less the same band attachment the same long press action to emit a siren tone the same red shift at night the same 3,000 nits of brightness on the screen even a rotating Crown though Samsung's inexplicably doesn't seem to be doing anything when rotated and even the same claimed 10 atmospheres of water resistance though from what I can tell Samsung didn't actually build the death sensors into this watch to make it actually work as a dive computer I mean I like that there's a watch of this class for us Android users but I don't understand why they had to go so hard on the copying Samsung's own watches already have a design and I honestly prefer these to how the Apple watches look plus Samsung didn't even Embrace these squirkle properly because I bet they actually just wanted to have the same round UI for all of their watches so the whole thing just looks even weirder on this odd shape Huawei also made a clear Apple watch Ultra competitor a couple months ago but they didn't feel the need to also turn theirs into a weird clone and I praised that watch a lot why couldn't Samsung just do that it honestly feels like someone in management explicitly decided that okay this year we're actually just going to copy whatever the hell apple is doing it feels weird I don't understand why they're doing it and I'll be kind of embarrassed to wear these okay for my second story of the week you know how Tesla self-driving software is still not quite as good as it should be but the company really really really wants you to think that it is well apparently the company found the funniest possible solution to this problem Tesla is reportedly spending loads of time and effort on perfecting full s driving but specifically on routs that Elon and other high-profile YouTubers are taking Business Insider apparently spoke with more than a dozen Tesla employees who said that that these high-profile drivers received VIP treatment I bet that Austin where Elon Musk now lives or New Jersey where the MKBHD studio is these places must be amazing and if you think about it all of this is kind of funny like it's definitely not illegal and maybe even just clever but it also definitely leads to a completely distorted public opinion if true of course Elon promised full autonomy in 2018 then in 2020 then in 2021 and then in 20122 and we're still not there today for the guest there was supposed to be a robotex event next month which is apparently Al getting delayed to October and Elon is currently in his favorite country China just trying to woo that government into making full self-driving happen there so I guess stay tuned okay and for my third story of the week the world has a big new rocket and one that for once is not actually owned by Elon specifically Europe's Arian 6 rocket blasted off in its Maiden flight this week it's a new heavy lift rocket developed at the cost of4 billion intended to let European governments and companies transport stuff like satellites into space the rocket is around 4 years late during which Europe was almost completely riant on first Russian rockets and then primarily on SpaceX so this would give the continent some much needed Independence sadly the current rocket still doesn't have reusable Parts yet that is planned to happen in 2030 with Aran next so for now it won't be cost competitive with SpaceX but it is at least a real alternative Aran is co-founded by Airbus and the launch itself was largely a success the main engine did reach space and successfully deployed the so-called cube satellites that it carried even if the top part of the rocket accidentally stayed in orbit rather than heading back down to earth to burn up during re-entry as planned oops left a little bit of junk up there but either way congratulations to the themes and hopefully the next four launches that are planned for this year are going to be a success too okay moving on to the brief Apple has officially started settling with the EU the EU claimed that Apple restricting NFC access to Apple pay was an abuse of its Market power and apple agreed to opening NFC access to third party wallets now for free for a decade nice and also this week Microsoft and Apple have unexpectedly both given up their non-voting open AI board seats reportedly both companies wanted to avoid the European Union coming in and trying to explore whether they had too much control over open Ai and while we're at Microsoft Notepad just got a spell check and auto correct this week 40 years after it launched pretty fun and together with tabs and save reminders and whatnot it's actually a pretty modern and nice app now and in more good news Samsung revealed that it's XR platform that should take on the Apple Vision Pro and The Meta series is finally coming to Market later this year better late than never I guess and my low-key favorite news item in the brief is that the German tire giant called schwaba has just reinvented the bike valve their so-called click valve lets you simply attach and detach a pump with a single motion there's no screwing no leaking of air nothing the pump head is much more compact conversions are super simple and they claim that they want to make this the new industry standard hell yeah this is the kind of quiet UNG glorious Innovation that we actually need okay okay and for our release monitor this week nothing has just launched the cmf phone 1 it has surprisingly good specs for its $200 launch price and also a unique replaceable back and some cool accessories sadly there's no NFC my guess is that they wanted to keep the back plates as cheap as possible but the phone feels really nice in person and as someone who hates having to use cases I really like this design moving on Insta 360 has released a new gimbal called the flow Pro and the main party trick here is that users can now directly use Apple's very own camera app which connects via dock kit to the flow Pro to keep subjects in frame that is really cool even if I have absolutely zero use cases for a Gimbal and also this week SpaceX launched the stard disk mini dish in the US which integrates the dish and the Wi-Fi router into a single weatherproof package that you can just easily carry around it costs $599 plus $150 a month for unlimited data and you can even power it from a power bank pretty cool the fact that having internet beamed from satellites into our backpacks is real is kind of wild and the Deep engineering know how to make this happen is just really impressive and if you'd like to acquire the engineering knowledge needed to work on really impressive projects yourself then check out brilliant brilliant is an online learning platform that teaches you to think like an engineer or a scientist they have a ton of stem courses that cover maths physics chemistry computer science and more you have whole learning paths that start at beginner levels and take you all the way up to advanced concepts like machine learning large language models and more and all the courses are designed so that big concepts are broken down into many smaller learnings and then those are practiced right away with interactive Tex tests to make sure that you practice and fully understand what you've just learned not only is this just way more fun than simply reading a book it is also proven to help you retain knowledge much better and if you want my recommendation I particularly like their course on how lmms or Lodge language models work I literally use this to refresh my own memory on this topic for an upcoming video to try everything that brilliant has to offer for free for a full 30 days visit
