hello chaps let me introduce you to the Samsung Galaxy Zed fold 6 and it is very nice and there are some very welcome upgrades here but there's also a lot that hasn't changed and Samsung has a pretty big challenge to convince us not only to buy a fold this is the current fold 5 but also not to buy one of its fantastic Rivals from Google and OnePlus and Oppo and honor and VI okay so let's talk about what's new what's Chang and the most obvious sort of difference is the design refresh the F six is a touch shorter and also a little bit wider they've squared off the corners giving it a more boxy s24 Ultra look and it actually weighs about the same as the ultra as well now at 239 G that's 14 G lighter than last year's fold 5 and 24 G lighter than the fold 4 now my number one issue with the folds since the beginning of time well when they first started launching the folds uh is how narrow this cover screen is I think we can all agree that it's just too narrow too much like a remote control and this has been our feedback for years and years and years well look at this the full six is cover screen is a whole 1 mm wider side by side you can just about notice the difference it's a little bit less of a TV remote and now just about a 21 by9 aspect ratio it's a subtle change but it is certainly welcome we also have a new and improved hinge they call it a dual rail hinge the aluminium frame is now matte rather than glossy and apparently is now 10% more scratch resistant and speaking of durability the ipx4 rating that we got on the fold 5 has been bumped up to IP 48 so much better water resistance and for the first time on a fold from Samsung a bit of dust resistance so you can finally take your fold six to the beach they've tweaked the speaker grills the one on the top and the bottom and I'm told they are now louder plus we have slightly improved mices still Gorilla Glass fixes two front and back uh and you may notice here I actually had a little accident with my f five I've kind of shatter the glass there when I dropped a phone on it not the end of the world still works but that's still GL glass oh and the utg or ultra thin glass for the main tablet screen is now ftg or foldable thin glass which apparently is tougher and also helps reduce the visibility of the crease also I'm told because I can't say it looks or feels particularly different and given how subtle the crease is on some of his Rivals I'd hoped for a slightly bigger change here and there's also no sign of the Fantastic anti-reflective coating that we get on the s24 ultra this is like one of the most underrated features that I love about this and it would be amazing given the tablet screen and you know how this is supposed to be a Content creation and consumption device to have all the bells and whistles of the Ultra screen but still it's thinner it's lighter we have the wider cover screen slim down bezels tougher glass tougher frame and dust resistance even if it's not a complete overhaul in design it does all add up to make the fold six look and feel a lot nicer to use even more so if you pair it with their new and improved S Pen case which is significantly less chunky now and I would definitely recommend getting one of these because it protects the the phone it holds the pen and it stops the phone from rocking about because of the camera lenses when folded on a flat surface and of course a new phone launch wouldn't be complete without some new colors we have Silver Shadow we have pink and we have Navy these are the three main colors but there will also be more options on samsung.com which include crafted black and crafted white but out of these three which would you go for then we have the display or displays I should say the trimmed bezels and the extra millimeter in width for the cover screen means it is is now a touch bigger the only other change here is the brightness now bumped up to 2600 knits Peak HDR using their adaptive Vision booster Tech that goes for both screens and that's up from 1750 last year and 1300 the year before with the fold 4 otherwise it's the same lovely 120 HZ Dynamic AMOLED and obviously a big if not the big selling point of the fold is to give you as much screen and as much viewing flexibility as possible and as ever the tablet screen while terrible for watching TV shows and mov because of the basically Square aspect ratio and the massive black bars it's great for browsing the web looking at your photos and of course multitasking with up to three apps side by side and a fourth one floating on top and while the crease is definitely still there and you particularly notice it if you're doodling or drawing with the S Pen going over it the truth is even if the F six isn't perfect and of course it's not for everyone particularly with the price tag which we'll talk about in a second there isn't really a rival out there with the same form factor same screen quality same S Pen support or similar Style and also the same software the Galaxy software which really I think is the best for taking advantage of the tablet screen and the foldable form factor with flex mode but of course that's also not exactly new what is new though is the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 for Galaxy which is the same one you'd get in the s24 ultra and it is quite a significant upgrade 41% faster mpu for all the AI stuff 25% Graphics 14% faster processor although still no Wi-fi 7 it sticks with 6E which is a bit odd for a phone this price since the chip supports it all fold sixes get 12 gigs of RAM and the usual 256 512 and one tab storage options no change there just scrolling around and using the phone for a couple of hours at my Hands-On event with Samsung it did feel really fast but I think what I'm more excited about with the new chip is not only the camera processing which we talk about in a sec uh but also it's more efficient because Samsung has stuck with the same size battery as the fold 5 at 4,400 milliamps would have said no to a slightly bigger battery but on the other hand it is quite impressive they have Shrunk the form factor of the phone kept the same battery but actually are promising a slightly longer battery life because of the more efficient chip and some optimizations for example they say that video playback has been bumped from 21 to 23 hours and they've also worked with a bunch of big apps like YouTube and Netflix to make them use less battery sadly though absolutely no change to the charging speed still tops out at 25 wats and don't think for the £1,800 price tag that you'll get a charger in the Box no no that's still an optional extra and as is the Spen and all the cases it's not the end of the world you'll still get 50% of your battery after half an hour of charging if you buy their faster 25 wat charger but given the competition given how expensive this phone is given how we're on the sixth generation of the fold why is this still being forgotten about it's very strange to me still we do get wireless and also reverse wireless charging which not all rivals offer but what about the cameras all five of them in fact you've got the cover screen selfie you've got the tablet screen selfie hidden fairly well under the glass which is meant for video calls and then you've got your three main lenses on the back with the wide the ultra wide and the three times Tel photo and of course being a foldable with flex mode and with the cover screen preview you've got a lot more flexibility for using these main cameras for more of your shots the problem is barely anything has changed with the cameras if I bring up the specs from last year's fold five and then transition to the fold six the only Hardware change is the ultrawide camera which does have a new sensor and can also now shoot at 60 FPS both at full HD in 4k currently if I switch from UHD 30 to UHD 60 4K 60 the 0.6 times lens actually disappears so you can now shoot 60 FPS with the fold 6 that is the main camera Hardware change although of course we do have the new Snapdragon 8 gen 3 which comes with an improved ISP for the camera so we are likely to see some better processing faster shutter speeds better noise reduction in low light so it may end up being marginally better I'll test it properly my full review but that's that's it but I must admit I did come away a little bit disappointed by that the fact that there's barely any change to the cameras and I feel like that was the same last year and also the year before it feels like they're falling further behind not only their own Flagship phones but also the competitors out there for example I love uh the OnePlus open's camera which is the basically the same phone as the Oppo Find N2 I think it is and that do a refresh and also the pixel fold 2 is around the corner so the F six will ship with Android 14 and it will be running Samsung's latest 1 UI 6.1.1 which of course means we get all their lovely Galaxy AI features most of which are already available on their recent phones there are only a handful of new features here and they'll probably trickle down to the other devices in the next few months now going through all the Galaxy AI features could take an entire video uh but let me just give you a quick recap you've got all the assists note assist lets you transcribe translate and summarize within the notes app you don't have to use the voice recorder browsing assist for translations and summaries of websites and the bigger screen with the original article and the translation side by side side is really neat you've got chat assist with a new composer tool which can generate what you want to say for emails messages IG comments there's live translate where you can make a call speak in your language and the other person hears it translated in their language interpreter also makes really good use of flex mode say you're at a restaurant or you're checking into the hotel and there's a language barrier you can turn on conversation mode and it will show the translation on the outer screen and give you their response on the inside for you and then there's some fun image generation tools like sketch to image which does what it says on the tin give it your best drawing and it'll then use gen AI to create a more complete picture shall we say very much like co-create on Windows PCS and what's coming with Apple's intelligence you can also draw on top of your photos and gen will do its thing and then you have a heart on your T-shirt or a very fancy Top Hat there's also a new portrait studio mode where you can turn yourself into a comic or a 3D cartoon or water color or even a penciled sketch I think that's the best one and you can even turn a photo into a kind of 3D moving photo I'm not sure if I would ever actually use this it's kind of like those 3D effects you sometimes see on Facebook plus if you tap and hold it goes slow motion and of course you've got Circle to search and AI generated wallpapers but nothing really new there but I do also appreciate they've made it clearer what exactly the Galaxy AI features are having this galaxy AI menu that lists everything is a nice update so that is the fold six well that's not the fold six that's the fold five but that's my Hands-On with six and in terms of the price it'll cost you $17 99 here in the UK 1,800 quid basically which is 50 more than the fold 5 last year so prices are going up and that comes with the same pretty poultry 256 gigs of storage no charger no SP pen I was thinking about this last night how is it still so expensive six Generations in in fact it's getting more expensive I mean you know cars don't necessarily get cheaper each one that comes out but you think the processes for the screens and the hardware would become more affordable as they sell more I don't know anyway very expensive expensive foldable phone I don't think it's going to convince anyone who's not already convinced by this form factor to jump ship but to be fair I have also been telling you what's new versus The Fold 5 if you have a fold three or a fold four then it could be worth your upgrade it is a very nice phone it's just a bit frustrating that there's no change to charging speed the cameras are barely improved and while the design is certainly nicer and a refinement nothing about it is really a game changer but what do you think has Samsung done enough would you consider buying one and if not what's the deal breaker other than you know the price so full review coming very soon make sure you hit that like And subscribe button down below and also check out my flip 6 Hands-On video thank you so much for watching guys I'll see you next time right here on the tech chat
