Samsung Galaxy A55 vs. Galaxy A54: One Big Difference!

it's the Samsung Galaxy a55 versus last year's a54 and this is an interesting comparison because it feels like these devices aren't even the same class it it doesn't feel like the a55 is the successor to the a54 it feels more like an international or overseas competitor to Samsung's own s23 Fe which to me doesn't make a whole heck of a lot of sense and I was prepared to get on as of maybe even yesterday the day before and just absolutely Rave about the a55 and I still love it I think it's a fantastic device but I can see there are reasons why a you'd hold on to an a54 and B maybe even choose an a54 over an a55 if you're buying one of them today and the main reason for that is someone left a comment on my a55 video saying check the camera get to the camera and then talk to me about these two devices and I'm not one that usually jumps up and up and down about camera stuff I usually don't notice that much of a difference but when we put these photos side by side a little bit later on in this video you will see why people will prefer the a54 camera wise over the a55 so let's talk about these two devices number one in night and day build quality wise I understand they added glass to the back of the a54 last year but this is a entirely different Step Up you have the brushed aluminum frame now now on it it's a metal frame it is Hefty now on this it's about I don't know 10 or 15 G heavier so if you like the pocketability of the a54 that's changed slightly with the a55 but when I talk about a premium build I'm not giving it lip service if you had handed me this device and said hey this is the s24 the base model an $800 phone I wouldn't have questioned it I wouldn't have said oh you're you're pulling my leg or whatever it's April fools fools whatever happens to be no I wouldn't have questioned it at all this is a premium feeling device this is a nice Flagship feeling device between the gorilla glass victus plus on the front then you got the glass on the back the beautiful coloring and styling and then the aluminum the brushed aluminum flat frame on the side of this so a little bit different than the uh sand blasted or whatever kind of rounded uh aluminum frame on the s23 Fe so slightly different we're going to compare those devices as well but 6.6 in screen on this one 6.4 in so it's a naturally bigger device which add to some of the weight 8 gigs of RAM this year standard on the a55 versus 6 gigs on the a54 does make a difference performance-wise I do notice a quite a bit snappier performance on the a55 really smooth really good I love the uh the a54 I didn't have a problem with the exos 1380 in the a54 but the a55 the exos now 1480 really steps it EP a notch better on gaming gench and impact r well on this you're going to be on low settings but it's going to be smooth as can be lots of different advantages to this device performance- wise I'm not going to say that there were a lot of hiccups over here with the a54 because I don't think there were there were moments when this device would slow down a little bit that's no longer the case on the a55 performance- wise the nod goes over here this is an excellent excellent performer and the heat management is good I went through that entire gench and impact download which usually melts phones it got warm but nothing prohibitive that I would say you know you got to steer clear of this the exos 1480 for all those exos haters out there is pretty darn good in this device but again I never really hated the performance on the a54 so that's something to keep in mind especially when you're talking about roughly $150 price difference now you can typically have these links will be in the description the a54 for under 300 bucks and $4.49 on the a55 talk about displays cuz that's another thing the a54 has that classic poppy saturated Samsung display while the a55 borrows more from the s24 ultra where they're going for the more natural tones and unlike the s24 alra you really can't turn this one off you're kind of stuck with the color temperature that they give you you can go between natural and Vivid there are ways to go in the settings and change that a little bit but it's not quite the display functionality that you get with the a the s24 ultra where you can kind of go back and and turn the vividness up you don't really have the Vivid this slider over here it's a really good display content looks fantastic your videos you're not going to notice that you're just going to notice a beautiful poppy display but understand if you love those Samsung saturated images or saturated uh I got ahead of myself that's going to come a little bit later on with the a54 if you love those saturated Samsung displays the a54 still got it stereo speakers on both are really good I'm I don't really notice a downgrade between the two there micro SD card expandable storage is back on the a55 something that people really loved with the a54 so if that's necessary for you be you could rest easy it is back this year it just feels like a different class of device like I said it feels like since they're not offering this in the United States even though you can still buy it T-Mobile you're not going to have an issue you're going to go on Amazon you'll be fine it feels like they needed a s23 fe for overseas as opposed to a successor to the a54 and that makes sense because they're still selling the a54 full price on their website I don't pay that $400 something at this point is ridiculous get it on a discount but if you do you're still getting a great device and a lot of people I there were some people that jumped up and down said oh try it after the updates it's blah blah blah blah blah this is still really nice it's a good performer I didn't have problems with the 1380 I think updates and software optimizations have made this phone even better the one thing you're going to notice between the two before we get to the camera stuff is battery life 6 hours of screen on time is what you're limited to mostly on the a54 meanwhile battery life is phenomenal out of the same 5,000 mAh battery battery life is phenomenal on the a55 we're talking over 8 hours of screen on time it is definitely an all day or two-day device really really impressive so overall I love the a55 I would be jumping up and down recommending you're dealing with 1ui 6.1 over here so you got kind of the always on display stuff that you got to deal with with whatever whereas you have the oneui 6.0 on the a54 so you get Android 14 but you're dealing with kind of the classic always on display and all the rest of it now let's get to the cameras even though the spe the megapixels are the same the result is quite a bit different they much like the display for some reason on the a55 camera they've turned down the saturation now what I saw was somewhere in between these two images okay so it's never quite the saturated Festival that Samsung usually gives us with the color science on their phones so that's not quite what I saw but it's also not quite as drab as what I saw on the a55 either so you can see multiple images here and samples and examples of how the a55 typically and consistently came back with a drabber drer image now you might not care about that you might want the more natural colors if you're somebody that throws frz it in the Lightroom or something like that anyway that's something to consider but and you can always mess with these photos in postprocessing you can kind of mess with the saturation sliders and all the rest of it but if you're somebody who's into the point shoot camera and that's really important to you the Samsung kind of uh uh uh patented saturation is available live and well on the a54 but it is not on the a55 that is interesting so I saw what people meant when they said you know fire these cameras up and then tell me the comparison and I'm not you know there a little off it's a it's a little different I'm not somebody to point that out but there was a significant difference as you can see between these two images that are that come from and are produced from these two phones on the whole I still prefer the a55 really nice I like the premium build I like the metal frame if you're somebody that wants a lighter more compact phone the 6.4 in on the a54 will still get you done I wouldn't upgrade year- overy cuz I do like I said I don't think it's a successor as much as a completely different line of phone so I wouldn't upgrade if you already have one of these you're still running well if you have an a53 if you suffer through that for another year absolutely getting an a55 you're going to be jumping up and down loving the improved performance silky silky smooth gaming phenomenal there are so many things to like about this device performance-wise this year battery life the extra 2 gigs of RAM the improved gaming performance they improved just day-to-day performance I haven't seen a single hiccup on this phone performance-wise whereas like I said the a54 was no slouch but there would be occasional things that the exos would do as you'd expect on a budget or you say budget a mid-tier device I'm not getting mid-tier vibes from the a55 whether it's performance build quality anything else the only thing that for me comes up short on the 855 is the camera so while if that's your biggest Factor you might want to look elsewhere you might want to consider a little bit more but overall this is a when we do the week uh the week review you're going to get some glowing recommendations on this guy gorgeous
