Salton Sea in 24 hours: Exploring the Area's Best Hikes, Food & Strange Attractions

what's up guys it is Josh from California through my Lance comm and this is Salton Sea 24 hours located two and a half hours from Los Angeles the often overlooked songs the area is in place with a bunch of fun adventures if you take the time to explore them here is how I recommend you spend 24 hours at the zone the first stop on the way out the Salton Sea TKB bakery in Indio it was loaded the fourth best restaurant in the United States by Yelp I recommend the Trump sandwich which is no relation to the president but it is a fantastic sandwich in the town of Mecca California I recommend stopping at the gas station it's a great place to grab snacks water gas and even Starbucks since the options are limited once you leave here so this is the International banana Museum it is an awesome stop only opened a few days a week so here's a few pictures of last time I was here [Music] Salton Sea is full of abandoned buildings that you can admire from the road or walk up and take a closer look at next step visit the Salton Sea State Park and visitor center where you can learn all about the area [Music] so I am at Fonzie Bay Park this is the park where you can see all the crazy fish and barnacle bone right there on the beach it's also one of the best places and the area to get up close and personal with the lake for C one of those - this right here is what makes Salton Sea such a crazy spot this is fish bodies and bone does this line right here behind me it's fish bones all strewn over the beach mixed with barnacle shells which gives this beach its weird texture so this Lake has no actual outlet which makes it a feeding frenzy for birds during their migrations there's only one fish that can live here it's tilapia but there are millions of them in this lake so if you're looking for a cheap place to stay you can camp pretty much right on the water in Salton Sea State Park [Music] the mini town of Bombay Beach is your next stop head over to the ski-in bar where you can get food or drinks and also decorate a dollar bill to add to their collection next head over to Avenue he and up the small hill to get to the room [Music] this is the ruins of a thriving beach community in Salton Sea called Bombay [Music] flat City or the slab is your next destination this area is full of RVs and small houses erected on the slabs when an abandoned World War 2 Marine Eric's there's always something new to see every time you drive through [Music] this is of course the famous salvation mountain made by one man Leonard Knight over the course of 30 years to tell everyone God is love [Music] there's really only one place for food near Salvation Mountain and that is the Buckshot diner luckily they serve some pretty good Mexican food here there's also a no-frills motel right next door it's pretty much the only option if you're not camping and want to stay in the area [Music] since I stayed in Neyland I decided to get up for sunrise Salvation Mountain and was not disappointed I recommend bringing some snacks or breakfast though as there aren't any options open this early [Music] this is morning day - I met with sunny building a Wildlife Refuge I'm going to go on the short-term mile trail they have here to do a kind of bird looking fine listen to all the birds out there yes [Music] so it made its the top of the rock Hill trail this is a great trail to see birds but you're definitely going to want to bring a zoom lens or binoculars as they're not very close after leaving the Wildlife Refuge you'll see signs from miles advertising the date shakes in Westmoreland I recommend to stop as they certainly live up to the hype the main stop on the west side of the lake is at Salton Sea Beach and the old marina like most things in Salton Sea it has fell into disregard over the years it is still worth the visit though to see the old boat launch channels and how low the water level is now lastly headed the Cabazon dinosaurs on the way back [Music] thanks for exploring the colony with me be sure to LIKE and subscribe in Chico California to madeleine.com from one [Music]
