FIRST OF MANY SUCH SHELTERS. YEAH. SACRAMENTO COUNTY'S FIRST SAFE STATE COMMUNITY ON THE CORNER OF POWER IN AND FLORIN ROAD. THIS IS OUR. FIRST PURPOSEFUL NON CONGREGATE SHELTER AND WE'RE LOOKING TO DO MORE OF THEM. COULD WELCOME GUESTS AS SOON AS NEXT WEEK. WE HAVE 100 CABINS, 75 ARE SINGLE OCCUPANCY AND 25 ARE DOUBLE OCCUPANCY. EMILY HAWKIN IS THE DIRECTOR OF HOMELESS SERVICES AND HOUSING FOR SACRAMENTO COUNTY. SO DO YOU WANT TO GO LOOK INSIDE A COUPLE OF THE CABINS THIS IS OUR SINGLE UNIT, TEMPORARY TINY HOMES FOR PEOPLE NOW LIVING ON THE STREETS. IT'S PRETTY BASIC, BUT IT GIVES FOLKS PLACE TO HAVE THEIR OWN SPACE. A BED, A LITTLE DESK, SOME STORAGE AS THEY WORK TO TRANSITION INTO MORE PERMANENT HOUSING. THERE ARE CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES ON SITE AND 24 OVER SEVEN SECURITY. THE PROSPECT HAS MICHAEL FRESH OUR FEELING HOPEFUL IT MEANS EVERYTHING. BUT IT WAS A LONG WAIT TO GET HERE. TODAY'S UNVEILING CAME MORE THAN A YEAR AFTER THE COUNTY FIRST ANNOUNCED THIS PROJECT AND ABOUT NINE MONTHS AFTER IT. INITIALLY AIMED TO OPEN IT. WE LEARNED A LOT FROM IT AND HOPING THAT WE CAN SPEED THOSE PROCESSES UP FOR FUTURE SITES TO SIMILAR SAFE STATE SITES ARE ALREADY IN THE WORKS. ONE ON E EAST PARKWAY IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES BUILDING WILL HAVE UP TO 45 CABINS AND IS SET TO OPEN IN THE FALL. THE OTHER OFF MYRTLE AND AVENUE IN NORTH HIGHLANDS COULD HAVE 200 OR MORE CABINS AND IT IS STILL IN THE DESIGN PHASE. IT WAS A VERY, VERY LARGE SITE WITH A BUILDING, SO IT PROVIDES US A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY NOT JUST TO HAVE THE CABINS AND BUT ALSO A VERY, VERY LARGE CENTER FOR MORE INTENSIVE SERVICES. THERE'S ALSO MONEY SET ASIDE FOR A SAFE STAY COMMUNITY IN THE AMERICAN RIVER PARKWAY, ALL IN THE HOPES THAT IF THE ACCOMMODATIONS ARE NEAR WHERE PEOPLE ARE ALREADY STAYING AND ALLOW W SOME PRIVACY, PEOPLE WIL BE MORE LIKELY TO ACCEPT THE HELP. THIS MODEL WILL ALLOW PEOPLE THAT SENSE OF SECURITY AND DIGNITY AND SAFETY THAT WILL THEN ALLOW THEM TO LET GO OF THE CONDITIONS OF LIVING ON THE STREET AND LIVING IN CONSTANT CONCERN AND FEAR AND THEN CONNECT WITH THE SERVICES THEY NEED TO END THEIR HOMELESSNESS IN SACRAMENTO COUNTY. LYSEE MITRI KCRA 3 NEWS SAYS. THE COUNTY SAYS IT WILL NOT BE TAKING WALK INS AND IT WILL BE INVITING PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN CAMPING
