hi I'm Christiane from sac city Corvette and today I want to show you how to use the line at rear main cover tool to get the rear main cover aligned properly first thing that you want to do is have your cover all clean and everything you can put a couple bolts through the gasket to hold it on there and what I recommend is putting sealant in this corner here on each side where the cover the pan and the block all meet that's an area that can possibly leak so after you put a small bead of RTV I prefer this ultra black type is what I like to use you just take the cover and slip it on get the bolts started we're just going to put three in for the video and then just barely hand tighten them down then also take the long bolts that go in through the bottom of the pan and get those started one on each side so what you want to do is have these bolts here just snug down so that they're smoked loose so the cover can still kind of move around a little there just hand tighten them like that and then you need to take the bottom bolts and get those fully installed just hand tie it again then you take your alignment tool and lube the two o-rings inner and outer and the reason for putting the the lower bolts in here is because the gasket for the oil pan has a rubber seal that's kind of thick and we're going to use these bolts here to kind of pull the cover down a little bit to get the tool in here otherwise the cover sits up too high so what I'm going to do right now is just by hand just snug these down a little you'll see it like crunch down on the gasket a little bit there and by doing that now the tool should line up yep now the tool you can see it lines up so you just tap the tool in its like that and then take your socket here now you got these here light up you want to Snug these not just stuff so you get the tool so the tool fits in there good nice and you know it just goes in freely then you'll take these and stand snug these down is now the cover by putting a tool and you've lined the cover up this way and this way and it's it's tight the pan so you snug all these down actually going to go ahead and torque these two 18 foot pounds so once these are tightened down then you can snug these here down just a little bit more to 104 inch pounds these bottom ones and then you can remove the tool just like that now the cover is completely lined up centered with the crank exactly the cover and the crank then you're going to take your seal that you're going to install comes with the plastic Center thing here I like to use the fill Pro gaskets by the way this is a Velcro set comes with this already put it in the seal you just take it set it on there like that what other thing is I prefer to put a little bit of this aviation cement around the seal here just for added protection against leaks it's just my personal preference so you're going to do is now you're going to take your align it tool and just push in just like that and then take your rubber mallet and go right around nice moving that's all there is to it the seals installed straight makes it pretty simple and very accurate to make sure prevent having oil leaks from the seal anyway hope the video is helpful and you can find these aligned at tools at sac city Corvette comm thank you
