so just wanted to give a quick shout out to Sim soua 15 he gave me a idea to make these a little bit longer more stream of Consciousness and I really like that idea I really love making these videos so this is the first one I'm going to try that with so just a quick story you know the reason why I started these videos is because um I created a app called demo. fun and I released it on product hunt and it got 15 votes and it stayed below the fold and it only got one sign up and so I created a YouTube video showing off the app and explaining you know what happened and just kind of going over my experience and pardon me this guy gets on my YouTube comments and he says hey I know it's wrong let's get on a call says your landing page is messed up so I said okay I said come in my come in my Discord and I send him a link to my Discord and he gets in there and he's like hey let's get on a call he's like your landing page is messed up I said just just put the you know the the comments in in the Discord so everybody could see you know cuz I want to I want to be open and so he's like well are you sure you don't want to get on a call it' be easier I said no just do it because I don't I don't want to get on a call I don't want to talk to anybody and so he puts it all in there and it's all really excellent feedback you know and so I um I take it and I make some lists and notion of things that I'm going to do uh but it's not priority right now because I'm working on this stuff so I just kind of put it on the back burner and uh everything's cool I tell them thank you you know and then so I want to reciprocate so I go into the way I got my Discord setup is that everybody can create their own channel and um inside their Channel they can post their project and they can get feedback on their project and so he creates his channel and he he puts his project in there it's called moment CRM and it's um basically um I'll tell you the story so I I don't really know what it is and I I go and I try to use it and I tell him that and I I make a demo of it with my app and I send it to him and he's like hey he's like I'll tell you what you did wrong just get on a phone call and I was like no no phone calls and uh then he's like well for example you didn't even need to make that demo my app already does that and so at this point I don't I don't know this guy and you know I don't I don't know if this feedback that he's giving me is coming from a good place or if it's because I won't get on a call with him so I don't know how to take it and so I I reach out to him on the side and I say hey you know what's going on with your product uh you know there's no armchair quarterbacking you know don't if I if I'm resisting don't don't push on me and he says um no no no I'm not he said I just just you know I'm just telling you the truth and he says and he shows me what his app already does it and I said okay cool and you know then so he you know that's the thing with feedback you never know if the person you know especially cuz it's not face to face so you want to make sure you trust him before you take feedback if some on Hacker News tells you you suck that man he don't know okay but anyway this guy does no he actually created a company called pars Hub it's it's a pretty successful company and now he's in my room trying to get feedback on his new product so you should go in there and help him you can learn a lot from this guy he's smart guy so yeah okay so finally I get a round of coding and the way that I'm approaching this uh ooth integration um so yeah I starting out with the ooth integration there's a couple tasks that I have um I have to research the notion API um which I did and I'll talk about that in a bit um but first I wanted to just get get to coding just to kind of you know get in the groove of doing that and so um I created this ooth task list of things that I have to do and the the way that I am going to do it is by copying my HubSpot ooth implementation that I already have because I worked on it and just feeding it to chat GPT and trying to get it to um you know recognize the different objects and things that I have in my code and hopefully put that in there but it it failed miserably this time uh it completely hallucinated and it you know gave Scopes that were that weren't there that don't even exist and so I ended up spending a lot of time debugging stupid permission URL um but I eventually got it work and got ooth all set up and here you just see me entering uh public key information and then I I have all my secrets again in parameter store um yeah I'm just iterating back and forth trying to get to install URL to work and trying to deal with these hallucinations those Scopes there's no scopes um not too bad it would have took me a lot longer if I didn't have chat GPT to do the whole ooth implementation and all this research and stuff would have took me probably about a week I think maybe not that long but definitely not you know 30 minutes um yeah and so I go and I try to get it to give me a ooth callback URL and it generates a generates the wrong code for that too the token data contains a client ID and client secret that's not correct they make you do a authorization header and they want you to you know munge the data together in base 64 and code it so it just completely missed the mark on that as well but again I'm not going to complain you know it's funny I was on Hacker News the other day and uh this said you know chat GPT doesn't help very much at all and so I said you know it's guys like you that are going to get smoked you know because I I just can't stand that when programmers say like that it's stupid and so this guy gets on there underneath my comment and he's like before you go talking to people in such tone you should remember that you've put your picture on the internet something like that I'm like man you I'm like yeah I doubled down I'm like I don't yeah okay okay he says You must remember that you are not you don't sound easy to work with or something like that I said you you know I didn't say you because they'll kick me off Hacker News forever if I do that but I said you know I doubled down I said I I am difficult to work with you know who says I need to be easy to work with you know that's you you freaking salary man you know that's that that it's been pound into your head for your whole life not me actually it has been pound in my head my whole life I'm sick of it you don't have to be easy to work with you don't have to work as a team with people you can work on your own it's ridiculous that we we have like this culture like you know YC uh basically tell you you're crazy if you do a business without a co-founder guys don't listen to those guys they don't know what the hell they're talking about half of those investors over there they're rich they got a lot of money but they don't a lot of them has stopped coding a lot of them has stopped going into the weeds uh and doing the work and what they're going to find out is that their money is a hell of a lot less valuable uh than technical skills in the age of chat GPT um so don't listen to them they're half of them are full of man telling you you can't do stuff blah blah blah blah blah just because they were able to raise Venture Capital who cares it is not a great accomplishment to ask someone to give you money and to get that money it's not at all stupid it's not stupid but I'd take money if if you want to give me money I'll take it I have no problem taking your money I'll even give you a tiny bit of whatever you want I don't know I got to give okay so anyway I'm just uh getting the notion stuff going and and I accidentally failed to record it um but I got it to work and so I've got the notion stuff going so you are free to actually go visit it and I'm going to put that next so I definitely shouldn't say the guys at YC don't know what they're talking about that makes me sound like an ass I know they know what that a lot of them know what the hell they're talking about a lot of them are super smart but also a lot of them are full of and you know they don't I don't think that they uh I think that they they say a lot of things uh well you know I don't want to sound like I'm bitter about YC you know what it is man I've been trying to post there I've been trying to spread my word on YC and every one of those down votes it they're all a bunch of kudin man they remind me of just the programmer that you used to work with that used to always tell you no can't do it can't do it can't do it you're wrong don't try stay down oh can't stand it man maybe I'm wrong okay so now I'm just kind of going through and um implementing some of the task lists that I've created and one of them is um to to register a notion app and I think I got another clip coming up where I do that but um I've already got the the public and the private key so one of the things that I use to store my secrets is something called parameter store which is in um AWS it's part of their system manager which is like a ec2 management framework I'm not really sure what it is to be honest with you um but parameter store encrypts your secrets at rest it's really nice uh technology and they actually have a paid version of it that's like a dollar per secret per month so don't use that just use parameter store I and I'm not really sure I I forget about the way that the um paid version works um or or how much the pricing is I could be wrong on that so yeah just um going through here and right now what I'm doing is I'm going through and I'm exploring the notion or the notion API and I'm um just creating documentation in in the documentation that's available at uh coding but clueless. notion. site I'm updating all this and keeping it online so yeah I just go through chat GPT and um I'm you know just C trying to create the documentation so I I'll give you some some stuff that I learned this is this will be useful so the notion the way that notion works is um they've got public apps and private apps the private apps will only work on your internal notion site and they give you a secret key for that and then they also have public apps which require ooth and with your ooth um access token you can make API calls on people's behalfs and so that's what I'm going with and they suggest you start off with the simpler integration but it's fine I you know ooth is simple enough especially in the age of chat gbt so I start off with the ooth integration um but there's also different types of Integrations you can do with notion so like one of them is you can create these things called link previews and what a link preview is is it's basically just like a real- Time update of information like so like you know if you pasted like the link to something and it can go and fetch data from that source and and update the link in real time so it's just like an updatable preview um you can read more about it again on on my documentation so I captured this all pretty well uh and then there's also they've got this kind of um data API which is like cred operations against pages and uh I think users there's different entities throughout notion um there's just you know looks like a restful type of API over it and then finally there's embeddings and that's what you're seeing me do right here embeddings are not really part of the API um I wanted to embed demo. fun because I thought that' be the shortest path to getting a app integrated into notion but um you don't need any kind of inte you can just put a iframe code there you can see I'm doing that right now and uh yeah it's sweet I'm so happy that demo fun embeds in there it looks like because those buttons are ridiculous um I'll fix that it looks like there's so many things I got to do to fix it it works good
