hey guys welcome to episode 5 of the VAM build series so today I'm gonna get a start on building this whole wall here which would be side to side head to toe it'll be a complete wall dividing the back to the front so this is my Shaolin toilet base as well and there'll be a wall along here and along there to the ceiling there'll also be a door there in the middle and also a small door here to get into the toilet and shower so I've already done a couple of steps so I'm gonna run you through what I've already done and then we're just gonna keep on going so firstly I'm using 65 militant screws and 35 by 70 mil pine studs I then grind it off this plastic cover flush with the metal frame next I mounted some string line up so I can get my wall perfectly straight [Music] [Music] so I chose 65 merrill baton screws because they won't go through the floor but they'll grip in nicely to the subfloor so the first thing I did was measure up my bottom plate I line the bottom plate up so it was flush with the string line marker so now marking up where I need to cut out some carpet for the top plate [Music] [Applause] [Music] so once I cut the top plate I cut the vertical studs and I use the string line markers as a guide so I can know exactly where the top plate has to be [Music] I had to cut a few wedges to say that the top light would see flat when I screwed to do [Music] Oh so I'm just marking out where the vertical stud will go for the door I [Music] used a square to get the stud vertical because you can't use the spirit level [Applause] [Music] [Music] I used the 100 mil hole saw cutout to act as a large wash art to measure up the curves on the walls so you just keep running your washer against it and then making the next cut and you keep repeating this process until you've got the perfect curve of the wall [Music] I then secured the ply with about 15 vehicle head screws [Music] [Music] so now making a template for the toilet access door [Music] okay so this is where my toilet is gonna be going the storage comes out like that so I need to cut out an access panel and just behind it here I'm going to use this ply template and Mark it up and then I'm gonna drill it out and then cut it out and also I'm gonna have to pack the toilet up high because if I pull that out like that and try and pull that out the access door we're gonna get caught a hot lip there so I'm gonna have to pack the toilet on the inside higher a little bit as long as the bottom of this is flashing or below this lip then it should be fine and that should be able to come out perfectly fine a measured center of the door first and then I drilled a small hole at the top of the access door then I measured off a straightedge to that hole and transferred that to the bottom of the door and then use the template to mark it out [Music] [Applause] [Music] then are burned off any metal filings and then filed the edges of the hole [Music] the door supplied the toilet comes with the big board in the door so I used to mill aluminium from episode one to fill this in [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] I'm using standard Sikaflex Pro to seal the door [Music] I also use the same black strips as I did when I did the maxxair fan in episode 3 along with Sikaflex Pro to seal up the access door and I cut some thin timber strips and the door was more secure [Applause] [Music] I put in two conduits for future plumbing ineligible [Music] then I measured out marked and screwed down my bottom plates [Music] [Applause] and now I'm transferring the bottom plate measurement to the top plate [Music] [Applause] [Music] I screwed in some timber Barton said that the shower sealing has something secured a fixture [Music] all the top plate screws straight into the van metal [Music] I had to pack out a few corners so that the sheet that I'll be mounting will sit flat [Music] I sealed off this wall just as a precaution because behind the toilet there will be an access hole and I don't want any moisture getting in the walls [Music] [Applause] [Music] these are just some drill woz for the future wiring and plumbing I used earth wall insulation but to fit in the cavities [Applause] [Music] [Applause] amusing six male marine ply on the curved wall so that the wet area panel will have a solid wall to mount to [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] I made a template for the word area panel on this side [Music] the edge of the sheets were bought up in the corners into this strip and you stick this strip onto the bottom of the edges and it overhangs over the bathtub firstly I'm just laying down a bead of Sally's wet arrow silicon then I'm using Sikaflex Pro as my wet era sheet adhesive [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] now I'm just using cockpit to conjure the timbre to keep pressure against the panel's I let it dry for 48 hours for these secret flex to cure I found that it helped a lot to fall down the edges because they slide into the corner pieces a lot easier that way [Music] now I'm pretty filling my edges with the celli's what area silicon allowed this panel to dry for another 48 hours [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so I'm using the same timber strips that I used in the toilet access door and these will provide support for the recessed shelves inside the shower [Music] [Music] make sure when you're using a jigsaw to cut this material that the good side is facedown [Music] so I'm just checking how it all lines up and then I marked out where I need to cut out from my shelves I then added five mil from the inside of the lines so that the sheet doesn't overhang from the timber [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] I applaud some extra Sikaflex to the back giselle it sticks even better [Music] so now I'm just cutting 45 degree miter joints for the PBC angle and I'm just using a grinder to cut them [Music] and I'm just using Sally's wet area silicon to seal the gaps and adhere the PVC strips to the edges [Music] [Music] make sure you allow this silicon to dry properly before you go into the next step [Music] the next I have to cut out the wall for the access panel and I marked out the internal measurements of the door then drilled for small holes in each [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] now finally I just need to mount the ceiling what area is she [Music] this toilet is actually a swivel toilet and it spins like that so it's obviously easier to use lengthways and when you finish you just turn it back it also has electric flash and will go around to the storage and I'll show you that now just quickly I gonna have to pop this up 20 mil off the floor so that the back a set case can slide out so I'm gonna have to saw some sort of plastic block and cut it to the shape at the bottom of the toilet and then I'll mount it all down I've actually still buddy steel around and attach it to the wall as well and this is just the recessed part in the wall where I will be putting some sort of a net over so I can put on shampoo soap and possibly even toilet paper in as well here's the access door you just push these two buttons to open it and you can access the toilet cassette storage and you just pull that out then it comes out but that's why I had to pack it up inside 20 mil so that that would come that would be flush or higher than this point here all right guys I'm gonna stop this episode here I've pretty much finished the shower I've just got a ceiling mounting the toilet down and finished sealing all the edges and also obviously I'm gonna be putting a door here which I'll do in another episode so yeah basically that's just the construction of the shower done and this front wall so it all took way longer than I thought and it was more expensive than I thought it was gonna be but I'm happy that it's pretty much done now so that's it for this episode if you want a more in-depth price breakdown and more in depth information just head over to my website jazz morton calm and there's a van conversion section where you would be able to find this episode and I'll give a price breakdown for all the parts that I used but thanks for watching I hope you enjoyed it comment like and subscribe if you want to see more of this content and I will see you in the next one thanks guys see you later [Music] [Applause] [Music]
