oh my jesus [Music] [Applause] hello guys ashing gameplays i'm fabio pisco and welcome to my channel so for today's video today video so for today's video i actually made a poll on my community tab where i asked you which video would you like to see first oh my god which video would you like to watch first and you actually voted for rx and 6600 xt with pci express 3 versus pci express 4. but since the 6600 and 6600 xt aren't much different uh in terms of overall design architecture and so on they are the same actually the results wouldn't defer much so instead of just wasting a lot of time testing the 6600 as well i only tested the 6600 xt okay that's why as for this video you actually have a small explanation of how the pci express works and why the the 6600 xt has more or as less performance with one pci or another how the pci express works and so on so on so on so you have all that data before the benchmarks and you have uh timestamps with links in the description so if you actually want to watch the explanation before the benchmarks you can it's a pretty good explanation right or at least it's a pretty good explanation inside a basic explanation if you don't want to watch it just go to the benchmarks directly and well i see you in the conclusion right after the sponsor of today's video sponsoring today's video we have gpg mall now with their new black friday promotion where you can use my skg discount code and get 30 off making your windows 10 pro only 13 after getting the key you'll have it in your profile and all you need to do is go to your windows settings and bam you have an activated system pci express means peripheral component interconnect express it is a high speed serial computer expansion bus standard that came to replace the older pci pci x and agp bus standards if you're older than 25 and you're into pc since a child or a teenager you must remember the times where gpus were running into agp slots instead of the pci express ones good times nowadays we have lots of things using pci express like graphics cards sound cards wireless and ethernet cards and even hard drives pci express devices communicate via logical connection called an interconnect or link which is a point-to-point communication channel in between two pci express ports allowing both to receive ordinary pci requests or interrupts the lanes are something that's physically on the hardware and there isn't something that you can have via software and visually the slots are different depending on the number of lanes they have and all of them serve a different purpose nowadays the motherboards and cpus use 16 lanes apart from most apus like for example the ryzen 5 5600g that has 8 lanes used by the integrated graphics and even if you disable those same integrated graphics the lanes will still be solely for that so you won't be able to use more than the 8 lanes you have left when using a discrete gpu paired with the apu but that isn't all like i told you before the lanes are physical [Music] and the same applies to the graphics card's pcbs which 99 of times are designed with 16 lanes independently of the pci express generation used on it still amd went a bit cocky when trying to cut some production costs and started decreasing the pci lanes from 16 to 8 in some of the lower end gpus and it all started with the rx 5500 xt since the card wasn't that powerful it didn't need much bandwidth and only the 4 gigabytes version suffered when using pci express 3 due to having to make lots of calls to refresh the vram data since it was always maxed out still these problems were eliminated once we used pci express 4 since 8 lanes of pci express 4 would have the same bandwidth as 16 lanes of pci express 3. the problem is that amd went even further on pushing the pci express 4 and made cards like the rx 6600 and 6600 xt with only 8 pci express lanes and even though they both have 8 gigabytes of vram they are much faster than the rx 5500xt meaning that they'll need more bandwidth something that can be a problem for people having a pci express 3 motherboard or people that have a pci express 4 motherboard but have a pci express 3 cpu meaning that they will be forced to use the limited bandwidth of 8 pci express 3 lanes possibly leading to decreased performance now why did amd do this well most likely because they wanted to cut some production costs and since pci express 4 is widely used and pci express 5 is almost here they thought people wouldn't mind but here we are doing this video now that you know the basics let's move on to the benchmarks to see actual results we all feel safe in that room but sometimes sometimes something today's first game is control using the x12 and high settings alongside with ultra textures as you can see the differences in between the pci express 3 and 4 are minimal and could easily be taken as a margin of error meaning that even though this game pushes the vram to the max at 1440p and above and after some time kind of makes the textures disappear at 4k like you see here in the screen enabling pci express 4 won't help at all which is quite interesting let's go to the next title now with assassin's creed valhalla using the x12 and ultra settings in this game we have exactly the same difference as before around 1fps and since that difference is already present in two games we can assume it is not the margin of error but instead the actual difference in performance in between the pci express 3 and 4 in these particular titles although we now have a decent boost in the one percent lows mostly at 1080p of around 2.5 fps which is nothing you can actually notice while playing the game but it is always nice to have [Music] now we have cyberpunk 2077 using the x12 high settings and max textures in here i simply did a small running test across the map followed by some driving this to see if there was an actual difference or not and as in the previous games it is basically the same and we actually got lower one percent lows with pci express four but since it was a game play and not a benchmark it is normal to have a bigger margin of error let's move on [Music] now for far cry 6 we have some really interesting results this because i was running with the hd textures pack that consumes lots of vram as you can see at 1080p and 1440p having pci express 4 definitely helped performance wise not much in terms of averages but mostly in terms of the one percent lows where at 1080p we had a boost of 8 fps while running 4k with this gpu the hd textures were a disease performance wise and pci express 3 would give us only 5 fps which is less that i can show you with a sketchbook going to pci express 4 made the fps go from 5 to almost 15 but still looking like a powerpoint presentation and it was only when disabling the hd textures that we had a decent performance at 4k with both versions bringing us the same performance very interesting results now we have fortnite i know that this game isn't very demanding in terms of ram and vram even at 4k but since it is vastly played and some days ago its engine was changed to unreal engine 5 i really wanted to test it here we are using the x12 and epic settings and before you ask no when not cpu bot unlocked in here since we're using epic settings and the rx 6600xt but well if you have any doubts the results are here and you get absolutely no performance boost in this game from using pci express 4 at least in my testings even though some reviewers had the opposite results maybe they were using the x11 now we have the most interesting results so far with forza ryzen 5. i was surprised when i finished this test and saw this big difference i mean i know forza horizon 5 consumes a lot of ram and vram even at 1080p but i never thought the difference would be as big as it is at 1080p we have a difference of 8 average fps and 13 fps in the one percent lows which is massive for just a change in between pci express 3 and 4. and even at 1440p and 4k where the fps values get lower we still have a considerable boost from using pci express 4 over the pci express 3 which is really interesting to know if you play forza ryzen 5 and have this card make sure to enable pci express 4. getting closer to the final line we have another game that consumes lots of vram and it is resident evil village i am testing a part closer to the end when you meet heisenberg by the way as for the results these are quite strange i could see this game constantly allocating almost 8 gigabytes of vram which is what this card has and still we have absolutely no difference here going from pci express 3 to pci express 4 which is good since i mean it may indicate that the game is very well optimized which it is moving to the next one now with our awesome red dead redemption 2 and we have some more spicy results identically to the forza horizon 5 results the difference is quite noticeable here and even though the average fps difference won't be noticeable at all the minimum's difference will this since at 1080p we have 10 more fps as for 1440p and 4k the differences are smaller or inexistent and usually the higher the vram ram and cpu usage the bigger the difference will be in between pci express 3 and 4 using a card like the 6600 xt secure ourselves a victory landings can be a little rough move around a bit to make sure you didn't break anything to finish the benchmarks we have call of duty warzone with its latest patch and the new practice mission and it seems that although this game is very intensive in terms of cpu ram and even vram we see absolutely no difference in terms of results going from pci express 3 to pci express 4. this apart from the margin of error of course and while you can say it was because i was testing in the practice mission and the cpu load wasn't as big well i can tell you that the cpu usage was pretty high in this test and usually the bots consume more cpu power than normal players overall virtually no difference let's move to the conclusion so guys concluding well i myself am kind of surprised by the results even more for the force horizon 5 results that were pretty pretty surprising i mean i wasn't expecting having that much difference just because of pci express 3 versus pc express four even though the 6600 xt is quite more powerful than the 5500 xt and it still has eight gigabytes of vram today's games are kind of using way more vram than that so uh games that are releasing for example now okay uh like for the horizon five and the next the the the games that are going to be released soon will most likely be like it using eight gigabytes or at least six gigabytes of vram at 1080p max settings okay so if you're going for 1440p and 4k the games will use even more vram uh and ram and so on so uh you will kind of need more bandwidth to do the the data exchange and with pci express 4 you're kind of okay because you have the same uh the same bandwidth of 16 lanes of pci express 3 but with only eight lanes of pci express 3 you're kind of bottleneck in some games but the games that are coming now will definitely have an impact if you're using pci express 3 instead of pci express 4. and amd did do bad by putting only eight lanes okay and i'm telling this because the final consumer doesn't care if it is pci express three pci express four if it has eight lanes six lanes uh seven thousand million lanes the final consumer the consumer doesn't care okay it just wants a card performing as it should amd did bad completely they shouldn't have done this but it is what it is if you are really really mad with it just don't buy these cards that's the best you can do actually and well guys thanks a lot for watching don't forget to like subscribe and share this video because that really helps a lot and well let me know what you think about the these crappy eight lanes design of the rx 5500 xt66 and 6600 xt just let me know because i really want to know your opinion uh and all about the pci express generations as well thanks a lot for watching and see you in the next video [Music] okay [Music] [Music] [Music] you
