Wow good morning folks from Vancouver Island you wouldn't believe it but this is midsummer August 6th a little bit rainy last few days I look at that cool fog bank just across from the RV park taking the dog for a walk like the racket over here oh yeah it's like someone dumped some fish guts on the shore their big sushi breakfast for the seagulls anyway since it's such a dreary day today I think I'm going to busy busy myself around the RV do some maintenance tasks I think on today's agenda is cleaning out the water heater and give it a good flush out and I want to try a trick that I've seen used is I want to fill it with a vinegar solution let it sit and try to get some of that nasty scale out of there that that we pick up when we go down in hard water areas of the desert look at that that's pretty cool oh it's coming through the fog like that that big large Wow okay let's finish our walk and head back to the RV okay Oh start getting this ready there we are just Maya that's a suburban water heater six gallon so first thing I'm going to do is a maybe go and have a shower turn off the water heater have a shower so that I get rid of some of the hot water in there and then I can get the draining that sea water here I'll turn off the AC power to the water heater and I want to also make sure both my propane tanks safety first right okay ready to rock and roll so I won't go through all all all the explaining of how to how to flush the tank I've already done that in the previous video so I'll just link to that in the description description below the video so basically I'm just going to pull out the a no rod there and let the water drain out into this bucket I had I usually set below it let's just test this pressure release the valve and see see how hot the water is oh yeah look one okay let's pull the plug okay I've done my regular flushing my flushing wand and you can kind of see the stuff I'm talking about this lime scale here lots of that out of it actually this time not near as bad as previous years and you can see my animal rod it's also coated with the same type of lime calcium's kind of scale from the hard water so now I'm going to put that back in clean that up first now put it back in and we'll we'll get some vinegar into that tank using my winterizing kit installed last year so next I get my fresh water jug it's around seven gallons I'm gonna add about three gallons of vinegar to it gotta get maybe close to a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar and then that should be enough mixture to fill up my hot water tank again ready to rock and roll okay where my water pump lives made a my own custom enclosure for it here I published a post on when I installed this winterizing kit I also ended up redoing my my hot water my water pump hosing and everything in add added a better water pump to the unit as well I had a flow jet in there and I would switch to a share flow and it's it's been much nicer anyway this kit has a port that you screw on a hose got the little hose that came with the kit and I'll screw that in and I just flip the valve and then when I turn the water pump on she's going to siphon the water out of this jug through the plumbing and into the hot water tank in theory anyway let's go oh okay seems to be pumping taking a little while let's doing the trick I've opened up the hot water tap on the kitchen sink there it's kind of the closest to the water here notice I'm saying water heater he's calling it a hot water heater and I got in trouble from a few folks they just can't handle it when you call the hot water here because it doesn't it heats any water not hot or something like that anyway water heater it's the boat there okay you can see she's coming out the tank so the water heater is full whoo well that worked great so that whole blue container vinegar water mix is now inside the the water heaters tank and I'm going to flick on the breaker and let the element warm up the mixture and then we'll let her sit for maybe four or five hours as it eats away any any of that calcium scale it's it's in the tank and we'll go out and I'll show you show you the results stay tuned what do you think Angie should we go for a walk yeah let's go for a walk she looks a little scared okay so I've left it sitting number of hours now I'm going to drain it out well looks like I got some more scale out of there also some presto it actually cleaned up to an Arad a lot more so I think I could have left it in there longer I only left it around three hours so yeah seems like seems like a good way to clean out the old water heater cool okay all buttoned up hook the main water back on she filled up and looks like we're back in business nice clean water heater going forward if you'd like to see my full post on how I maintain the water heater I'll leave it like I say a description in the in the notes or go to my blog post on on this subject and I'll have a link there to till next time ray from lovey RV take it easy Cheers you
