what's up guys it's Chris and Erin with Irene iron fitness and this week we are at the annual escapers bash in Lake Havasu City Arizona and we are with fellow escaper and fellow heirs from ambassador cast everybody thanks for joining us appreciate it let you tell us a little bit about yourself so I've been living full-time on the road for two years I lived in the back of my 4runner and between Airbnb for about eight months and then I bought this and I've been in this her a little under a year and a half at this point I work full-time for an insurance company so full time on the road full-time work and then I have a dog and a cat that I travel with in the 16-foot airstream and we tend to do lots of driving so we've done about 60,000 miles in two years so we try to do as much as we can gap in between work and then I just started going back to school for my master's as well oh wow so there's actually a lot what are you going to school for apply Business Analytics is that going to work well remotely it's gonna work yeah it's basically my job and then career progression hopefully yeah so it's kind of basic data science and then learning so this is a really nice upgrade from living out of the back of your vehicle this is a huge upgrade yeah yeah some people might think is it 16 feet it's 16 feet 16 feet is crazy but it's a lot of space a lot of space it is allowing anyone full kitchen yeah we're before I had a little backpacking stove I have a bathroom and before there was the woods or public bathroom yeah yeah and it's it's a real bed kind of and we're the RV or the those luxuries which is your favorite that you were most excited about to get showers showering yes yeah I can shower every day now that's a big deal bathroom shower it's in your own rig is a big deal yes as kitchen how did you cook before out of the back of you're just a little backpacking stove so I pull it out I'd boil water I would cook like the onions and that you have yep little tiny Coleman cooler into the front seat yeah I was saying like cuz Cass has a really cool set up with her 4runner yes and this boot camp base camp you got boot camp on Cass has a really rugged setup with the 4runner and the base camp and I was just telling her she looks like a badass and now you hear the story about her actually like moving out of him like we don't mess around that's even cooler yeah and that's awesome but talking about your kitchen and stuff you know we do a lot of health and fitness in our Channel and what's your favorite thing and hug like how do you stay healthy in your kitchen what's your kitchen routine like so I have to like pots if you want to say I have a 10-inch skillet and then I have just a regular small pot so I cook everything between those okay and then I have a tiny little fridge so I don't like grocery shopping all the time I like boondocking being out there yeah there were partners meal planning so I usually go for some sort of meal that's gonna make me a bulk base so I do fried rice yeah has your vegetables and good flavor to it and then you put whatever you want on top of it for the week I love where I do like a rice and beans kind of thing yeah and then during the week I'll take out of my freezer either like sausage or chicken or steak or eggs you don't put that on top and kind of make it a little different every day yeah but it's just still the same base that's great that's almost exactly what I do is do it that's awesome yeah like I use a ton of skillet and a spatula like a rubber scraper for everything I just like yeah and I love that you do it involved that like the grains or yeah and then you just mix up the proteins and you can find a couple recipes that you like and switch it up thanks actually yeah well and Kass is gonna share some of those recipes with us too yes absolutely fun and then we're gonna I'm excited to dig around in your fridge in your cupboards I'm just like see the layout of it that's just kind of my jam and what I like to do far we have been at a bash so there's more alcohol there's a lot yeah this bash is fun but it catches up we're about a weekend yeah I think everybody's starting to get a little tired yeah it's Friday of a week-long bash and so there's really Saturday left and then that's about it yeah so on a normal on a normal week what do you like to do to stay active because you're obviously fitting in great shape so what do you do usually week to week to stay in shape so I have a 80 pound German Shepherd husky mix and that's my exercise routine yeah he's out of here right now you can't see him but he requires about five miles a day that's a lot of exercise yeah so he gets me out around lunchtime gets me out afterwards so I work until about 3 o'clock because I'm usually in mountain time zone and then we have from then until dark and my goal is to tire the dog out so we go hiking we used to run but the water supply caused showers not as good so I don't run anymore but it's mostly hiking with him that's great yes you mentioned you like to do a lot of boondocking what's your kind of ratio as far as like camps or RV parks or campgrounds boondocking what do you know it's a little rough cuz I travel so much so I actually do a lot of parking lots cracker barrels Walmart's things like that in between yeah so when I'm actually in a place settle down and usually boondocking but when I'm on the move I'm usually in parking lots or I might find an RV park because then you can pull it and clean everything fill your tank yeah which is nice with your small size that you can get into the parking lots yeah we do similar with the van when we were on the East Coast especially because we were traveling from city to city and we did a ton of Cracker Barrel yeah and they're the best because then the cookie dinner yeah and you just take out in your RV yeah yeah yeah awesome well I think way too long enough and we want to check out the inside of this thing so let's go all right before we hop into the base camp let's check out the 4runner and show us your setup that you have in here awesome so we'll start in the back actually so leaving small space and then a lot of this is still left over from when I lived in it so this is actually my trash bag that's sweet having animals and then you have to clean up after your animals and then just your kitchen and everything it smells if you leave it in the RV especially when you're boondocking yeah so you don't want to do that and the trash adds up quickly even if you try to be a minimal with your trash and condense it down like absolutely it's amazing what you can produce yeah in a week sometimes I'll fill this out so everything can go in here it's got extra pocket so I put recycling it's got the front pockets so it's the best $40 purchase I've ever made and safer like animals so do you get nervous about bears bears is the only family over Scott yeah I've never had an issue with it when I was in Montana though I did empty it out and I didn't put anything in here I would just leave it on the roof rack yeah cuz I'm sure if a grizzly wanted to rip it apart and take it they would easily do that but I've never had an issue with that yeah and then in the back of the 4runner this is actually a mattress that I used to sleep on so underneath either my deployable solar panels that was born in there and then there's a platform to make the whole back completely level for the mattress okay and then that's where I store some toys and stuff in there and then that was actually a twin bed we're just really comfortable on the side you have two storage racks that's where I put like my hammock my backpacks all about kind of miscellaneous stuff since I have small water tanks I usually carry an extra 10 gallons with me so you'll see there that's a six-gallon and that's a three-gallon especially nine gallons so here's an extra water and that's kind of a storage oh when you take this out for like a night trip or something do you spend the night in here sometimes and just leave your Basecamp wherever it is so I've always said I was going to do that I've never done it because the base camp basically goes any way I want it to yeah and then I can shower you have the intention but it's just so convenient to pull it you just pull it exactly yeah yeah but I do use this as a mobile office so if I ever don't have signal yeah we'll hop in here Jasper and I and then I'll sit I'll bring a pillow and I'll just sit there comfortably on the bed yeah work in here all day I just pop this out and yeah so I use it for more in office I haven't slept in it yet since I got the base camp you'll leave Napoleon back in the in the base camp yeah he's not as being a fan of the car so yeah and that way they don't fight you have to separate the siblings further yes it's a vacation for Napoleon when we leave him yeah he celebrates a little bit yeah yeah yeah and then that net up there is where I store my jackets and both your stuff like snow pants and things like that you get a lot of great storage in here for your gear yeah uh it just looks like an adventure in here yeah thank you it's a disaster that's what an adventurer looks like so all the dirt and I love it really cool with the Thule I store like my outdoor chair the dog bed the wheelchairs things like that that really isn't much outdoor storage in the RV awesome well let's take a look on the outside of the base camp and see what we got there awesome sounds good this is the protein so it's got two five pound tanks in it and then it has top that's where I keep my water hose water filters my big power cord is actually in the Thule but I have like the accessories and stuff in here and that's one of two outdoor storage that's it so then over here I'm not going to actually open it yeah but this is number two of two outdoor storage so it's literally just that big and about that deep so it's enough to put your sewer hose cap and then I have a little and what are your tank sizes I have 24 gallons of fresh and then I have 29 gallons of black recommend yeah and how long do you find like your propane tanks lasts for you it depends if I'm running the heater yeah so the heaters still really efficient I'm running the heater I like it warm yeah there's about 75 in there yeah and it'll do about two weeks well that's good but then in the summer I can go about a month and a half yeah these desert nights get cold yeah just come on over it's like 75 M is just your normal water fill city water this is where you would put a power cord but I have solar and I really I don't have solar barely ever plugin i plug in for air conditioning and that's about it what do you have for solar setup so I have a hundred sixty watts on the roof which is why it comes with base camp okay use it as an option and then I have an extra high 60 watts deployable oh because up front oh so you can literally just plug your zamp panels right into that okay so that's the panels that were under the mattress I just pull them out plug them in here yeah we saw that sewed up the other day yeah back for you from Airstream that's factory from your stream car yep yeah it's nice and I only use the panel's for that actually what I need it yeah these really support me most of the time what's your batteries in there I have two battleborn so I've 200 amp hours batteries in there nice did you upgrade that right away not right away so I had pie six months of the stock batteries and I did not know you're supposed to not go below 50 percent on AGM batteries yeah and I was always doing that see those things were fairly for holding in charge at that point I could go one day with Sun or without Sun that's it I don't have to have a generator anything like that I have a place to store generator yeah that's not an option for me so you at constant anxiety constant anxiety yeah I have an inverter in the truck so worst case I would like turn the truck on and charge my laptop so I could work that way this is pretty rough so it's actually last year the Moab convergence Forex keepers I met up with some other excuse and we did this whole setup cool so yeah all the wiring and everything in there is all that's awesome we have not upgraded to lithium yet and we're we're on the verge we've been on The Byrds we knew we needed to even before we left but we did upgrade our AGM so like double the capacity we've been holding our budget with an iron keep getting closer and closer yeah I don't when you get that desperate moment yes okay well we learned this week that it's just we're not able to power ourselves for a full week yeah you can't do it and once you're able to do that the stress that you lose is amazing yeah I don't even think about power yeah like if this is the life that you're choosing to live it's gotta just set it up the way you need to live it yeah yeah absolutely yeah I have a true MA combo hot-water heater unit and it's the best thing in the world it's this big and it's insanely powerful so that's why it can be I've camped in 20 degrees 15 degrees back in New York it's negative 15 and I still sleep in here and that thing keeps it at 75 no problem and that's a week and a half two weeks on that propane so it's insane how efficient it is and I absolutely love that thing and once it kicks on it just heats the tiny space no problem at all and it's quiet nice so I don't even know when it kicks on that's awesome yeah I noticed yours is the Basecamp X does do you know if that adds different features yes so the base camp is the same base RV no matter which one you buy the X which is what I just upgraded to cuz I started as a base camp and now I'm the X so that is your new tires so it's your new tires so they're just beefier tires there yep Wrangler tires they're basically the same size but there's smaller wheels so you can have a bigger tire but the actual radius of everything is the same as the other tires does it lift it inches Wow so the base camp the wheels don't lift or three inches the base camp X has a three inch lift on it okay so it is a little bit higher than a regular base camp the benefit of that other than off-road clearance he's on the regular base camp my black tank valve oh it's pretty low yeah so I don't know if you have that problem on yours I pull into like a truck stop and it takes forever to drain it because you're trying to like drain to somebody something up here so you're like draining lifting the hose and it's so nice dream of acting well something that you're using and you know dealing with on a weekly basis like that it makes a big deal for comfort and use and something that you dread versus just an easy task yeah you don't want to pull it truck stop oh my gosh yeah make sure there are no accidents today biochemical hazards and then the window guards are the X and there's usually metal stainless steel guards here as well okay but I didn't get those added as an extra 35 pounds to your tongue weight yeah and that's just for rock chips and things just normal wear and tear yeah it does have some type of so that's just the difference but the RV the true might think that itself is the same between the base camp in the base camp acts nice sauce and they gave you a new badge they did they actually like they actually like updated that that's awesome you've earned that badge cool the other thing on the rear so this is one of the features that they say for off-roading but I find it's the best for gas stations hmm so when you're coming in out of gas stations if you're towing trailer bumpers a lot of times they'll drag mmm so when you're going up like a hill or into a gas station or something like that I don't drag that's me so my triangles are still intact yeah and yeah yeah awesome and so it has a back hatch on it yes so it's pretty sweet so I have it as ventilation it is meant for when the benches are folded up you can fly to kayak or mountain bikes and things like that in there and it has tie-downs and you can actually tie down whatever you have back there and it's meant to be kind of like a toy hauler in a sense and then you pull those out when you get to your site you fold the benches down you have a bed but I've modified it so it's a permanent bed so I just use it with a screen which is an amazing screen as ventilation yeah yeah yeah that does a big difference like in the vans where if you open the back doors and the side door at the same time it's like a world wind in there and it feels good yeah yeah and it keeps down the dog and I love it in here it feels really good yeah this is our first time at a base camp and it definitely like from the outside you know looks so small but once you're in it it's like it feels great yeah it has a lot more room than you would expect I've got I've got slightly over six foot ceilings so you have plenty of headroom yeah yeah and then with all the windows just really feels open yeah nice well let's start with that kitchen there I think Chris is eyeballing is a little bit well this is go it yep that's my 10 inch and the thing about it that I love is as the higher sides yeah so you can cook a lot more unit for a 10 inch yeah yeah where do you store these when you drive on my carpet you just put them on the ground yep on the ground and then they literally are stored there cuz I don't have any other place to store them [Music] yeah yep exactly Oh so we have the same stove we have the same sink and then you have all these nice little like things set up what is this this comes with this yeah so those are the cargo nets that come with it mmm and then these are just baskets that I got at home goods kind of thing yeah so you organize and store everything in yeah like toiletries over here that's all my toiletries this is kind of a mix of toiletries and honey in this little rack here on the wall bathroom you can pop that open so that's kind of my kitchen storage so push in Oh so that's actually the batteries are under the floor there so my inverter of a 2000 watt inverter which you can kind of see back there is that factory or you added that in no oh I see the victor on back there yep and then again home goods for all of the baskets and everything which makes life amazing and then which we that cutlery yeah well we had to add on these little slides yeah that's everything for the kitchen so you made it slide so it originally there's a drop there and it drops in and so you would literally pick it up pull it out push back oh yeah this was a little awkward it was awkward especially with all the weight in it yeah it's really awkward yeah the slide is really nice yeah cool lots of space down there in your fridge that's my fridge okay how do I work this thing you had it that first time I push this yep push it and then pull oh okay so this is a dimeric what's this I play with just a little bit bigger it's probably like a four wider 3.5 cubic foot maybe look at you with your organizers you like it so we have frozen in there here's the thing is normally I have a variety of meats frozen in there yeah but at Christmas I found a Polish market that had raw bones and those are all raw bones for Jasper oh my god I can get my chicken and everything back in there okay well that's exactly what I like to use my freezer for it too is meat because it's really not big enough to like to put frozen vegetables or anything that you go through on a constant basis all right so while I'm down here I'm gonna what look at these you have more baskets down here for storage more baskets yep so that one you gotta like lift them and pull them okay that's kind of your cleaning supplies and then the other one is more toiletries things like that that is actually my dresser oh cool no all my clothes are in between those two usually you have a microwave up here yeah but I have the extra door put on instead so you can just for more space yeah absolutely that makes sense I like it for clothes and then these did this come with yeah these came with it yeah I put these hooks on these hooks you see are all from Amazon cool so for the garbage those a bit sticky hooks aren't they yeah they're just three I'm Huxley's even the black ones there's three hooks in your spices I always check up see rosemary what are your favorite spices to cook with cumin which I'm a bigger thing acumen so it's usually down below uh-huh and then rosemary salt and pepper that's really the main ones I use yeah this cutting board is beautiful thank you this is something that you put in yep nice and then these windows you can set yeah you can if you want you can go for it yeah you literally just zip this whole thing chef just pull it up and then so you put this up each night for privacy then every night for privacy and darkness so I don't know like black oh it's very close to black out I get light through the ceiling fan and that's about it so it really yeah so I would ask you like what was the biggest adjustment coming into this kitchen but since you didn't have a kitchen this is awesome I love everything about it I could go to the grocery store and get stuff and free stuff yeah actually I think the biggest adjustment was I could have ice cream again I love ice cream so it's like well the first things I bought was putting ice cream in there how often do you have to grocery shop or how often can you go without grocery shopping if I really want I can go two weeks yeah if I really prepare um the one thing about this is I do freeze my salad sometimes so I try to put it on the bottom and not freeze it yeah but that will send me the grocery store early I know all about that I have to put all my produce on the lower shelf and now my meat on the top shelf because if I flip flop them my produce will freeze and my meat will spoil [Music] yeah that's why I have a piece of cardboard in there cuz that's trying to keep some of the cool air from going down to the bottom and it's kept my yogurt and my knee salad from freezing a little bit yeah yeah the art B fridges are a little bit different and they definitely add some challenges to eating healthy on the road but you figure out what your fridge does and and how to work her out thanks Ashley yeah but like you said you're just happy to have a friend exactly yeah absolutely that's cool does that run on propane most of the time it does okay yeah because I'm mostly off-grid yep I'm even where I'm in parking lots and stuff yeah so yeah it's off propane okay our fridge is 12 volt in the van so it's that's part of the battery issue where we really need to have if you're gonna be off-grid you need to have a good battery bank for those and solar just to keep it and keep it going cuz it runs you know two amps an hour yeah that's a lot yeah the new base camps they put in an all-electric fridge Sony's 2020 and newer yeah and then over in the entry you just have your classic like grab and go stuff like keys yep so I'll show you brush your pets outside keys yeah I have to brush them otherwise there's hair ever there's hair everywhere anyway yeah but that helps this is like games books toys things on earth yeah yeah yeah you have it in the house you have it in an RV yeah this is my gesture so that's my secret hidden junker that you so look and lock it if you don't want somebody to dig in really put your valuables in there yeah so that goes down to the stuff here yeah it's actually pretty deep yeah okay into the bathroom are these did you put these lights on yourself I did put those nice did you put the mirror nope the mirror comes with it I am not jealous of that mirror oh really yeah mirror like that not not none of that lengthen oh yeah that came - about like this hunt for the perfect mirror I really just haven't been hunting hard enough just call your string I need a base camp perfect for what we need my makeup lights Thanks because otherwise if you turn those off it's very dark because there's no light above you yeah I love it so and they're all rechargeable and they just on magnets they pop right off Aaron we need to get a base camp married yeah that setup would be nice for you I think you'd like that where'd you get these at uh Amazon I guess Anjali care all in the cupboards - so when you open the covers the light goes on oh nice all these yeah cuz these are non motion those are motion sensored oh great yeah so you're gonna see my biggest pet peeve I'm about an Airstream shower at least the base camp Airstream shower because every single time oh I didn't clean this that's my disclaimer before you look at it every single time you wash your hair or you shower the residue just streaks mm-hmm so that is my one complaint about this shower I could try keeping a squeegee in here and just I could try that it would work at our v-- parks I've actually gotten down to the point of taking a shower with about a gallon of water there's usually not enough water to rinse it off which I think the press you have long hair yeah yeah yeah but the secret is I only wash the long hair about four or five days before yes but I shower every day yeah so that's how they can be short showers yeah do you use a shower cap no I just put up in a clip okay yeah it's nice and big in here yeah that's way bigger than our bathroom won't you say look wider I would say it's wider for sure way more yeah elbow space and like our bathroom well you'll see it will show you but it's much it's much smaller yeah that's a nice thing I was looking at tear drops and this is one of the things that sold me because I can wash my hair in here yeah because you do have the elbow room you have a height yep so this shower curtain came in nope is all that ends this is just a tension rod yeah with the shower curtain the new ones do but I'm only the second year on the base camp I'm a 2018 base camp hmm so you're still learning some of these things so the shower curtain keeps all in the same dirty laundry holder so the shower curtain is just a regular old sharpen it's nice yeah and then no water gets out so I close the door wouldn't shower but the door does leak if you don't have a kind of curtain right yeah yeah yeah it's a great space and I love your big towel rack like the little things that you that you take for granted like a nice big towel right and nice like you have lots of hooks in here to hang things yeah organizer you put in the actually the organizer came with it so it's got a little Basecamp logo haha yeah okay it is just glued on there so I reglue it every month or two because with dry steaming it cut and probably the steam it comes off yeah just take a little superglue and you can really nice showerhead so that's all upgraded so the showerhead is one of the oxygen x1 and then this is a shot off valve I put on it which is huge so you know how shower heads dribble yeah so this completely shuts off the water so you don't waste any water you don't waste any then you don't get the temperature change because if you leave it off you're sudsing up your hair all the cold water comes up it's a really cold shower in an RV where this keeps the pressure in both the hot and the cold system the same all right so the mini turn it back on it's the same temperature mm-hmm we might have to try that it's huge camp addict other ones I came up with it and it's literally like a four dollar piece from Amazon and it was life-changing oh yeah yeah it's a party yeah so he'll steal the show and you the hams he's gonna do this the whole time so how the base camp is originally set up is these are two long benches and they both fold up that way you can get the kayaks or bikes and everything in from the back door yeah but these Christians even though they're really nice then they look nice they're not the most comfortable for sleeping on full-time mm-hmm so for the first year I actually would sleep on these with three inches of memory foam mmm but it was a lot to always be moving around I felt my back hurt after a while so I bought this off another base camp owner and it is a fully custom 8 or 10 inch memory foam mattress so he's got a seam down the middle so I can still flip it and get into the benches but then it's also a real mattress feels really soft how did you run across that it was there's a Airstream Facebook group Oh oh nice and they're the ones that came up with it and they had an extra one for sale because the company messed up the corner and only cut the round edge on one corner yeah so they were sawing their broken one which they had already cut to size it was great so I drove to the Grand Teton area through in the RV and I had a bet you're a happy lady after that oh yeah it's life-changing having a real mattress when you have a full time yeah so um this storage up here so this is like my laundry closet kind of like sweatshirts work clothes extra paper towel extra towels things like that and then all my work stuff computers goes into the other cargo net do you ever have to travel to your corporate office I do and that's like that's like your corporate office clothes that's exactly what that is so it's just yep that's my suits and everything like that yeah it's got like red tape around it it says cut in case of emergency meeting exactly do you usually Park it and then fly somewhere do you drive or does it depend on where you're coming from I've only driven once because I was within like a 300 mile radius but I should have fly back to Connecticut most of the time okay I'm not gonna drive so the animals go into Rovers which is an app so you can find pet sitters on there okay and then they stay in people's homes and then the base camp either Park it at the airport or I just park in a friend's driveway if I'm nearby friend Thanks so do you miss storage you know how most RVs have a lot of upper cabinet storage do you find like this is enough or it's like you know that trade-off of more space more openness and in a little bit less storage exactly and you get used to it so what do you first or when I first moved in I didn't have much stuff coming from the 4runner so it was easy but now that I'm expanding you missed that storage a little bit but when you start really small and minimal I love the open space so I don't have that much stuff I don't need the extra storage so to me it's just completely wide open yeah yeah so one of our friends Julie Bennett she refers to like having space and like RV is like the bigger the purse the more stuff you're gonna put in it yep and it's true like if you just come into this and you don't have a lot of storage space you're not gonna miss it yeah you depth you ask you fill up what you have what you have yeah and you find things that are multi functional and yeah is that fighting that wallpaper did you put that up so I put that up so that is just each board is its own sticker and it took a little while to get it all smooth and straight and everything but yeah I love it it makes it homey usually it's just a plain gray wall it was like the gray of the bathroom door yep exactly okay yeah I really like it yeah and then my boyfriend painted that built the frame and everything around it so this is my there's no TV in here this is my entertainment center is the iPad yeah so it's kind of the home it'll be a little wood mantel thanks yeah it's really a piece of firewood that's so rustic that yeah it's pretty comfy back here I could hang out back here all day yeah it's a ton of space that's you know our van is 22 feet and because we have so many cabinets and overheads and it's just the width of a van it feels tighter so this has a good open feel to it oh yeah we even at 16 feet it just it feels massive there's no slides or anything in it and it's so what do you sit here when you eat your meals I do I do everything in bed so I even work in bed okay for a nine-to-five corporate job so actually right under there is a table table so that comes out and legs pop off of it and I have enough room on there for my laptop my second monitor and my mouse and everything yeah so I literally I use these pillows to prop myself up and I work in bed all day yeah so that's the cat suite as I call it so you got the litter down there the two bags of food they're actually in those waterproof bags so it doesn't leak all over my RV mm-hmm and then the cat foods behind it nice cats love little dens and yes like that there's a little spot back here underneath the bench which is meant for shoes yeah but it's his hiding spot so if he ever gets scared he runs back there he sleeps in there this Jasper's oh well thanks so much Cass for showing us your setup your 4runner and your base camp it's really awesome and I might just stay here all night but
