if you could be a professional in any other sport what sport would it be tennis oh he played tennis now I played I've played paddle as well pedal and tennis and but I played as a kid I played also a lot of tennis and at 14 15 I was actually thinking am I going for tennis or football but but I I love I love tennis and who's your inspiration at times it was like it's not your favorite tennis player not doll Nadal yeah I thought you'd be more Federer your personal your calmness no you like the fire yeah the fire and it's more the the fighting yeah the digging into it it's not all for me yeah the biggest inspiration in your life growing up that's my granddad yeah big inspiration his character and his way of life the way he he lived his life yeah what would he say to you that sort of inspired you a hard work pays off that was his Mantra it's like okay the way he lived his life the way he grew up and it's like you got to be a good person and work hard yeah and the things will will fall in place for you yeah and of course it's a no many people say it but he really lived it as well yeah yeah the biggest regrets oh my goodness Gary can I uh can you skip this one and think about it a little bit we'll come back to biggest regret the best party you've ever been to obviously it's a hard question that one yeah I remember my wife's 40th it's actually six years ago yeah and she invited all friends from different places where we've been so okay friends from England from Spain from Germany that's probably one of my biggest regrets that I went from Madrid to Germany but anyway she invited also people from Germany and people from Malaga and we we had this unbelievable party with our Dutch friends and family as well mixed with all the people we've met along the way oh good it was a fantastic party and my worst decision in my career was to leave Madrid for Amber I shouldn't have left Madrid at the time did Madrid want to keep you yeah I was I was with Pellegrini at the time and they signed Benzema Ronaldo carcasso there was no no place for me and I I I understood I accepted I was 33. but I wanted to give it a go to go to World Cup 2010 and I went to to Hamburg and it was uh it was a quick too quick decision for me and also for my family it wasn't the right thing to do at the time so I I yeah I wouldn't have done that no if I should have done it again did you know straight away when you first got there or was it the case no I it was actually a great start I had a and two goals in my first uh appearance yeah but it was it's now leaving Madrid with the family and all the moves and that it wasn't the club but it was more on a personal level taking the family and young kids and take him out of Madrid and and it was it wasn't a good thing yeah did you have a pre-match ritual I must say as a player what was your pretty much ritual as a player forget we'll come on to managerial writer at United I was always in the treatment room I was changed quickly and I was just there and relaxing on the on the massage beds with the with the physios yeah reading the match program most of the players were in the in the lounge just waiting and then changing and I was already changing you used to change the series and then because it was quite confident it's like we didn't know that we were playing yeah so it happened sometimes where the girl first had called me in his office yeah and I was all I changed and he said you're not in the squad today and I put on The Suite again I do remember you getting changed we used to go for the pre-matched meal let's say 12 o'clock yeah and then we'd come down and the players would always keep their their uh yeah their suits on yeah and you wouldn't get chased until you knew you were playing but you used to get your kids I was like okay again I'm changed I'm playing today I need to I needed to get that I didn't know it we'd be that he's confident that's another Dutch confident guy again what's your biggest phobia the most difficult Defender you ever played against oh I I always say when we played Milan away for the Champions League what was it the last 16 2000 three four five that was kafu Nesta Yap yeah and Maldives that was a back for with gattuso in front and okay that that was uh that was too much yeah that was too much but I would say when I played Yap in that game yeah I you know playing with him I
