And also it's last flight. They literally buried the thing in the ground since plans for building a new soviet space station got scrapped along with deployment of secret weapons into space. And Buran did not have any other cost-effective applications. What a shame. The thing was worth it's weight in gold.
Goddamn, I thought I knew about the Buran - I didnโt know it made an orbital flight and a completely autonomous landing. Thatโs really incredible for the time, and especially Soviet Russia. Not that they werenโt extremely brilliant, itโs just...I mean look at the facilities. Those engineers could really do the most with what (comparatively) little they had.
So the Soviets basically plagiarized NASA's shuttle design? Couldn't they make it look any different so it is not so obvious?
Don't get me wrong, it's great that the Soviets took American technology and improved it. But imitation is the sincerely form of flattery.
