North Bay started Life as a railway town but has now become a major recreational destination Great Outdoor opportunities here especially on the expansive Lake if you've seen one of the biggest stretches of water in the province we're indoors though for top quality curdling and it's medals day at the forward World Women's Championship 2018 first up we have the bronze metal game mats between Russia and the United States both beaten in the semi-finals and now determined to go home with that world of bronze I'm Alison Walker and with me for Life commentary on the rule game sander rollback great atmosphere inside the arena packed out 4 000 capacity here as we watch the Players March into the arena to the Applause of that crowd Ed States [Music] [Music] let's start these off and please don't go Team Russia We Believe [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] and Now ladies and gentlemen United States Locker [Music] second 50 First [Music] versus [Applause] [Music] friends and family Trump from the USA to watch Team USA be eaten by Canada last night in that semi-final game going right to the last Stone and there are the standings like Full Medal game tomorrow Korea Russia Czech Republic in the United States all qualified and this was a process to get to these final stages Canada seeing off the US and Sweden eating Russia Russia in the US will pay off for this bronze medal now Canada Sweden sander [Music] semi-finals both these teams really do want to go home with a bronze medal for sure yeah it's always tough to lose a semi-final but uh at least you get to play the next day it's tougher to end up playing in the same day so they've had some time to think about it and sleep on it I'm sure they're all popped up to to grab that medal this morning both teams played pretty well in those semi-finals as well I don't think they'll be too disappointed in their performances especially the USA oh and also a Canada Sweden were queer favorites coming into the field and the there are the two teams of the overall clear best friend Robin record that for them to go through to the final seems to make sense in many ways but it's a great debut for both Sinclair and Moise it's the first time in the world championship and we're in the bronze game it's a pretty good debut for anything great achievement of course Russia under honestly the Rover last year on Silver and Minnesota is the alternate in this team is also won bronze three times so I'm sure she's been able to [Music] be some of those feelings what it might be like doing medals some of the feelings ahead of the games I've not experienced as important in the team well uh we say about pizza Rover to get here but uh and I said robust been looking very supportive and smiley and cheery more than when she's competing on the ice herself really so it's been a great addition to the team I think recovery has died down last minute cheers from the crowd always very respectful push up redstones USC yellow it's Michael Walker gets us underway in this bronze medal game lead player Concord Massachusetts originally that lives in simple a couple of years wait in the World women's Sapporo in Japan actually tied with the Agnes knocking her the only player that oh she's ahead of knocking her in the standings but uh or tied but the rest of the positions are all talked by Swedish players All-Star kinds of trouble early on ended up giving up a score of three guys one of the coaches Derek Brown seeing we just got caught 14 fought the way back right to the last end s in this bronze medal game you especially as a thrower and I feel like people are just looking at you and of course uh quite a few people watching on the telly from home as well so just getting comfortable the ice looked pretty quick from the very start the very first throw in the game eight and they were able to sweep that into the forefoot run pretty nicely it's a little cold this morning just because uh yeah number of people coming in building tends to heat up a little bit and that can also heat up the ice surface so you might even see the ice run a bit quicker later on in the game yep like a walker plug did a really good game against Canada yesterday 99 pretty much just made everything the Canadian lead and that's gotta finish what you see needs today too just uh for her to set the ends up nicely for USA pretty good there just wanted to curl a bit more it shows the wrong side of that short Stone [Music] we come after it and try and tap it back just a freeze for now [Applause] foreign [Music] [Music] she also a very good game yesterday and throwing 89 uh along with Walker I played the Canadian front end the back end of Alex Carson couldn't quite cope yeah even though you say that come back in the end made it interesting it's been a bit of a star for this Russia team this week using the card me up yeah okay the splitting Center is nice yeah can I still even get a hair loss yep really you can already with this one from Persinger pretty alone this handle is there no no no no turn the rule over to the center and even further washing it as much as she can that's kind of situation where you're it's almost better to roll shorter than farther because yeah you're all that far that deep makes it easier for us to make sure you don't get ahead and roll back roll behind cover gets or USC so nice into the lead in this bronze medal game foreign for the whole tournament extremely consistent player for the USA guard I think yesterday I think Canada I made a point of uh where to throw the corner real good right on this on the out turn which means Russia will peel it with uh synchronous and she as well as Bill officer yesterday spent 99 on our turn deals he's playing 88 on the intern so again if you why would you not do the intern then well if you haven't looked at the numbers small differences that can make a difference these small details that potentially thought is there anything but uh probably throwing a corner through the spot with a more uh Monica Walker actually plays better on Earth interns anyway so far through the competition it's an interesting detail more that way I'm not sure I think it's pretty uniform curling pretty much see him everywhere been a long week for these players all those round dropping games extra round robin games this year and qualification playoff and then a semi-final Fitness stamina levels concentration levels all the way through [Music] just catching it that was a plan for USA to get that shot still but taking the center guard over it's another Corner that rolls onto the Rings it's actually real good well I think it's just out it's still still not bad yeah you said to just open up that Center Line Chase quite play up to a regular numbers on the semi-finals to eat it Charlie Charlie to have one of her best games for the competition yeah 39 for the whole tournament how she progresses here and get some stats for just this game which really is all that matters now playing well yeah like the firm weight run yeah helping your team love it get those points quite often it's just about making the right shots too an 80 game can be uh better than a 90 game it's just made the right shots at the right time yeah [Applause] these are just starts talking to get both here yeah just approaching that yellow to stick around huh second time in a row or not yeah diver nibbles the Rings there's a chance Russia won't they are to guard again come after the yellow and if they guard Ed extension of the arm there from Arson Keynote [Music] really nice swing there it's definitely curling both ways mistakes from both skips there I think so yeah anything in terms of the ends and what Jimmy Sinclair has to do here well now she gets to just throw this one through and blank the end keep fast on advantage that was always the option for USA if they didn't get there too I have to just take that away or something one but uh certainly the [Music] I was supposed to see uh far as it'll go bring a t t GT Gotta Go Gotta Go I saw you throw in the corner in there for a second but uh keep going keep going makes more sense for them to come to the wing here they would quite like to Blind the end retain the last one Advantage themselves when you're getting to the halfway point that's when you start to look at the scoreboard the wee bit it's looking at the old and even ends [Music] fresh on your second blank here [Applause] bring the hammer into six well there's uh three evidence to two audience yeah four team scores with a hammer you say scoring scoring one time more than Russia and that is the main thought of controlling that scoreboard also keeping the last one advantage for the 10th end most teams like to have that last Rock and the final end just to have the last see in the game be trading uh shorts here quite a bit Russia at some point need to make a roll and behind that Santa guard if they want to make sure there's no blank here we've always got to be aware and your opponent might just slip up might just make a mistake and be ready to take advantage [Applause] okay okay [Applause] [Music] I got 10 too there is a are is it like practicing your pots do you need people around you always go first so I wouldn't know but um but you can practice putts on your own is what I'm saying it's slightly different than curling as well and important to do both you'll see quite a lot of players will go to The Carling clubs by the by themselves and just throw little one throw and throw over and over again but quite important to have a coach or a teammate to maybe Monitor and make sure technically you're done doing the things you're supposed to be doing then you have the variables with the ice as well no two sheets are the same so it's uh mostly down into this Gap just trying to read the ice how much is going to carry on certain spots put in the room now for the teammates and for the front end that will be uh trying to have a good eye on the different tracks where the ice is running quicker where it's running a bit slower just having that information to give back to especially the back end mostly Museum or Sinclair the skips because they're up on the other end they don't really follow the stones up and down so they'll have less of a of a feel for it but they could also have a stopwatch on the other end and get some split times get a sense of uh what the speed uh the ice is doing and the different spots wow the S has been so consistent throughout the event well big surprise but still a couple of feet of wheat here and there a few inches of curl yeah different sports that's uh I can make a difference in a game like this yeah I'm talking top level here all these players very talented they know what to do they know what they want to achieve tiny margins sometimes you know just a little bit of luck can change things that's a inch less ons no oh anything I can wait sorry I get fully buried that probably doesn't us or if not telling our shot to make that roll underneath cover age um cheers to be fit whoa sweep sweep whoa come on I think so yeah I get a different line five yeah American skip secure her point it's tutu because the teams head into the break chance to reassess review and look ahead and get a bite to it energy levels back up part two of this bronze medal game [Music] [Music] our waves are really similar but mine are running really straight ears [Music] our robot taking a look at the highlights from uh the first five ends of the bronze medal game between Russia and USA at a blank first end but for more action in the second Victoria moiser skip of uh Russia with a draw for one spacing two U.S counters but just coming up all the heavy Carlson able to sweep that far enough for a steal of one at the third however getting the chance to draw this time to score two [Music] yes it's time to draw his spot on two points for Russia they take the lead two to one after three ends of play another blank in four takes us to the fifth end Jamie Sinclair rolling out on her first stone leaving moisera to draw around the center guard Sinclair with her first draw of the game you think could be a bit of a guess but just one perfect draw right onto the button for uh Sinclair and USA to tie the game at two each and half time [Applause] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] first five actually not too much between them no it's been quite a high scoring game but then again it's been very open not too many stones on play easy shots for the most part but uh and just as tight so we're happy just the one stolen point at the start [Music] format and how they got there and we'll boil down to the bronze medal game unless you're playing the US and Canada and Sweden winning through those semi-finals to contest the gold medal game a little bit later on [Music] [Music] we're all set then for the second half of this bronze medal game between Russia and the USA it's the first for both these teams in this position going for a bronze medal good ad on it not a first for their countries but it is for these two teams without an achievement for them both to get to this stage sadly one of them will finish fourth that's always just sounded such a horrible position to finish in after such a good week yeah I've been there okay but like I mentioned I like didn't start the game either way these teams should be uh pretty happy with their performance it's uh their debut after all 100 for this game performed perfectly 100 ticks I'm doing God just on the fourth sign good position s we're curling we're four almost a four it is a four it really digs higher the better I think yeah okay still out yep it's not quite in stopping time a couple centimeters away at the top of the 12 foot can't be removed again for a second Stone doesn't Carol as much unless she's yeah swap the order like it's just uh slight inconsistency in the guess in for a second shot most importantly just out count the Redstone there top 12. [Music] foreign [Applause] that's a lovely shot absolutely lovely what they wanted to try and bring the play over towards Aiello to maybe uh be able to move that Yellowstone bring that red and the top two elephant to play of course keeping it behind the tea line though chance for uh Sinclair to come down sounds good right to it Plan B is fully varied behind today's company and a plan B here either freeze the red or over curl it has come fully buried behind the guard 23 for the game and Jamie Sinclair Play One Drop I was perfect [Music] through the button [Music] just don't come deep down the spot I wonder if it's quick get right to it Sinclair's found the wheat perfect here yeah this looks very very nice really good touch thank you foreign might squeeze the Redstone sandwich between nails but to the right and I'm trying to sit on top of the yellow just to remove the Barking might free up the yellow shots don't be removed later but uh also lead the shooter in shot position that's a plan about the execution which one pretty good well the yellow's gone [Applause] just uh stricter angle maybe rolled that back red a bit further out to the wing because as it's lined up now that yellow is just lined up right back onto that uh Redstone and the twelfth and a half but of course the shooter ends up in a nice spot pretty much the same shot to be pretty perfect I lost challenge in the sand for USA to me the difference this t-line I think it's gonna curl I'm close mine's good it's all there stay Vicky all there hey Vicky yep yep yeah they need to keep the line here can't over curl the red it needs to have shots stolen here that is perfect and they are shot Stone only just thank God takes away the two for Russia I'm not sure it is possible to score more than one night near there please great placement great position for USA [Music] uh at the end it will just be the draw for one so two really good freezes by Jamie Sinclair yeah back to the spot where um played the draw on the second end initially took the same eyes as that shot but as taken less I wonder if keeping the backing mind at all heavy nothing to stop on and now this one actually pulling up what happened there it was weird that really did pull up in that last stretch didn't it it's a steal who would have thought the way that end was panning out my goodness not expecting that at all I don't know USC were later they've commentary on the gold medal game between Canada the Olympic gold medalist Sweden good Meadows deep here at the Memorial Gardens Sports Arena knew this one would be close it is the way it is developing boy that's one it's going to roll into the Rings ten seven yep I mean easy yeah all right Team USA can I move this oh opposing towards the center line oh super shot again from Monica huge mistake by Julia goziova to you just slip into the rings of that corner guard Unforgivable [Music] especially at this stage of the game let's make the bubble on the next one though that's good being in the seventh end a blank isn't the end of the world for Russia even though they are one down carry the hammer make it a three end game get uh the last advantage two times to USA is one actually an option you might see some teams play for eign I have to say it's been already cautious game for both teams either taking much risk fairly low scoring as well single two Russia in the third end I'm not at stage I don't think they will okay well there's never been more than a one point lead in the game it's maybe one of the reasons it's been quite tight sometimes as soon as a team's down two or three and they're having to take a lot more risks and you end up get getting down more stones in play sometimes but so far the teams are just seeming quite content with keeping the game tight times that's a bit typical for a medal game it'll be interesting to see how Canada Sweden plays out this afternoon though could be fireworks could be similar to this team [Music] yes control whoa easy that uh decrease your numbers your stats but in the end not so important for the game does make a huge difference only Lance Jamie Sinclair practice or drool eat a little bit so far she's been spot on three times in a row this is the same spot where she Drew for one and the fifth end it's never a bad thing to get a chance to do this and again it's all there quieter still got some room to work yeah here it goes mine's pretty nice 14-4 could be there did you see that right I'm gonna end up having to do that yep in the Final End close to it so you say it's only beaten Russia once the last five battle it out for this very precious bronze medal close all the way through lead for the USA Russia so not building something here if they can that would be a great end to to score a couple here for Russia take a little bit of risk here really both playing very well indeed either slightly ahead in terms of total percentage but one two mine's going you're reviewing their performances they haven't McCormick both losing out to Annette uh nobody from Sweden a lot to them contesting for bronze the first time also this Russian team the world bronze medal game over Russia have pretty well the last few years the alternate three consecutive years 2014. yeah it looks like they were thrown off Foreign it's a little disappointing so clearly that was indeed the call it was uh more about trying to score two here it's always tough to blank a ninth and your opponent really was just to force you to score one to tie the game so I wish I could have the hammer yeah more or less leads the guards or you say to use it easy what's up ladies after a little bit of debate foreign [Music] to get what they want just gonna make sure the worst case scenario is giving up to okay scenario for them is pretty much committed by now be very surprised if we don't see a score how about the twos for Russia twos and zeros and ones and zeros five four five steals I haven't managed to score two points when they've have just come after and picked it out for the win but Sinclair comes after this time and we said I was gonna have to find a way to tap it out and keep the shooter 4-2 declare six one in here real good to be tough for Russia to score at all makes exciting tense stuff here land what will they have mine's close it's more important to get it passed out the Redstone needs to be shot though 14-1 that's maybe a tiny bit piercedure oh my goodness [Applause] [Music] oh boy oh it's so disappointing from an American point of view they played the end so well so well so took the rest looks like it might not be off in the end Russia already and the Redstone Counting foreign we have one already in there you know You Can level things you've leveled things up already this for the win this last Stone for the bronze medal want to give your sweepers a chance here barely keep the rooms down here 14-1 on Sinclair's draw the lights are should be there [Music] and she knows it and Russia have claimed the bronze medal in the 2018 Ford World women's curling Championship what a battle this Wars right to the final Stone in the balance aboard a performance by this Russian team 2016 European Champions in a bronze medal of the world's fantastic achievement first time we've been in this position contesting a medal at the world and the one a bronze huge disappointment for Team USA who fought all the way and it really could have gone either way sander yeah very uh open game cautious approach by both teams of the person Bobby I've got a tight game and definitely a derby one by the end not much to look back at in the regrets for either timoth certainly not Russia just uh a message here on the intro there [Music] that's the uh fourth bronze in five years for uh for Russia and this competition [Applause] still no medals for uh USA not since 2006. [Music] [Applause] [Music] I'll take a look at some of the highlights from that second half a couple of uh real good freezes by Jamie Sinclair to make sure Russia can't score two gets the draw for one but uh sweeper's mistake Redstone pulls up and it's a steal of one for USA in the eighth end up with the chance to put two points off the board makes no mistakes Noah's hit it's a 4-3 game [Music] okay [Music] and the ninth James Sinclair with an intern eating full forefoot to score to come on get that lead back the straw is just made all the way down very controlled beautiful uh last shots which meant Russia needed one for the xr2 for the win Sinclair's Stone she's coming up a little heavy into the box well leaving Russia sitting one moiser with a chance to drop to score two pick up the bronze let's draw is there all the way down onto the forefoot sweeper's delight and uh the light as well for Russia bronze medalist at the fourth world Women's Championship 2018. foreign [Music] Robin and how the teams stacked up after 12 games each Canada and Sweden on top and those are the teams that will play the gold medal game and then we had Russia and USA also coming through their quarterfinals and that's a a look at their USA beating Korea Russia beating Czech Republic and of course then losing out in their Sammy finals to play each other this morning Russia ends up with bronze and it's uh still the goal to play for as Canada plays Sweden [Applause] congratulations Victoria bronze medal of the World Championships how does that sound Ah that's incredible I am so proud of my team it was such a good game and it was ups and downs and here and there and um some Stones they made better than us and uh some we made some good shots but wow I have no words to describe that we fought so hard for that and it was a long week for us but it was a great adventure and finish it with the medal it just feels so amazing how are you feeling at that final soon I'm glad I've had a lot of time to think and to breath and to to prepare myself and I just believe that they can sweep everything that they're so strong so I can throw it a little in a little slower so I got rid of I tried to get rid of uh all the emotions I had and just to play what was your expectation before you came here uh we of course was hoping for the playoffs we uh not we don't think too much about the playoffs before we reach the playoff because if you just think think about the medal that is uh like the medal that you don't have you probably won't have it so we of course wanted to go to the playoffs and then show what we wanted but the medal no matter which metal would be great for us and it happened what do you think they'll think back home in Russia I think I think they are proud and it's the new team that came to the world championship and that shows that we have a lot of great curlers in Russian congratulations well done thank you Russia then bronze medalists USA ends up in the disappointing fourth place but there's one more game left at this Ford World women's curling championship and it is the gold medal game Canada I played Sweden at three o'clock local time here in North Bay Ontario Canada stay tuned for more curling action [Music] [Music] [Applause]
