get money and we don't have to pick it up we intervene this was the beginning of roof as we know it the more a Louis roof drove and tinkered with the lightweight agile chassis the more his fascination with Porsches grew Alice junior who was 10 when the 356 person landed in the shop was becoming a teenager and joining in his father's enthusiasm within a few years auto roof became the go-to Porsche shop in southern Germany they were known to tackle any and every service and repair and they performed impeccable bodywork to boot one rainy day in 1964 a louis senior and a Louis jr. both roofs were rolling along on the Autobahn and were not just passed but buzzed by a Porsche 901 that's the development chassis of the Porsche 911 you ever heard of it it was being put through its paces by porsche engineers before its world debut as 911 started showing up at their doors for service they became intimately acquainted with them and that's when junior made up his mind with Porsche you get more performance with less of that's a quote from the dude himself throughout the 60s he regularly attended regional races where he watched 904-906 is 908 and so on as his love for motorsport grew his aspirations to become a part of it did as well in 1974 sadly senior passed away and junior took over the family business he continued the legacy of being a comprehensive Porsche shop but he now had an immense desire to also move towards performance and motorsport in 1975 he decided he was going to unlock the full potential of his beloved Porsche 911 by building one over the next three years a louis roof junior built his dream Porsche the same way he watched his father reworked at 356 in 1960 in 1978 a louis roof junior bestowed upon the world das original of meister hook that would make roof world-renowned i'm talking about the sco the scr was based on a naturally aspirated 3 liter Porsche and iron Porsche 911 SC but achieved the same performance as the much faster Porsche 930 thanks to the Gulf oil crisis and hiking emission regulations of the 70s we talked about this a lot I'm not gonna get into him Porsche themselves detuned the SC and gave it a measly 180 horsepower that's less than a Volkswagen Golf these days roof bored out the engines from 3 litres to 3.2 updated the fuel injection and added dry sump oil systems with other performance goodies these additions made 214 horsepower in a car weighing around 2,400 libs in addition to upping the performance of the engine they added an LSD and updated the bodywork and removed any unnecessary creature comforts to make the experience more driving focus sorry creatures all your comforts out the winter might come parents around this time roof chose to expand its shop to accommodate their growing performance business ventures and here's what's cool every employee traded a torque wrench for a hard hat and built the shop themselves that's it German automotive magazines raved about the naturally aspirated performance of the scr and roof quickly became an authority in moulding 911s into fast reliable quality performance machines I owe ya in fact the bigwigs at Porsche were thinking of retiring the little sports car to make way for newer models like the 928 but it was the roof inspired enthusiasm that convinced them to keep it around Allis roof shop was so good at tuning and building their cars that Porsche was cool with sending them chassis x' directly from the factory these unmarked Porsches were known as bodies in white creepy with metric tons of acclaim and success under their belts the logical next step would be to not just match the turbo performance of the Porsche 930 but to immensely improve opponent in 1983 roof introduced the BTR which stands for group b turbo root the BTR was the first roof to be manufactured with it's very own VIN they became a roof car manufacturer they took Porsche 930 parts direct from the factory improved them and cobbled them together to make a 3.4 litre 369 buff Hurst / beast capable of reaching 60 miles per in 4.3 seconds and 100 miles per in 9.6 the BTR was available in both narrow and wide body barriers and came with all the fixin's allowed her more free-flowing exhaust stiffer suspension Recaro seats racing harnesses a revised turbo and even more gorgeous bodywork it was also the first factory vehicle to come equipped with 17-inch wheels you Hertzberg did 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds and reached a top speed of 211 miles per the body was revised and sealed in sections for better aerodynamics gigantic NACA ducts were added to the rear quarter panels for better cooling 17-inch wheels with special dunlop tires a roof developed and manufactured 5-speed transmission a motorsport source bosch motronic fuel injection system and an integrated roll cage for increased rigidity and driver safety rodent track pitted the CTR against the most powerful of its contemporaries at Volkswagens 15.5 mile era lay sound research oval this is where photographers nicknamed it the Yellowbird do it oh gosh at Big Bird today the Yellow Bird went head-to-head with the fastest factory creations from Ferrari Lamborghini Metz Eddie's and Porsche and it completely decimated all of them that is this unknown variable yellow car I don't know but it hurts my eyes it reached a top speed of 211 miles an hour it was unbelievably stable at high speed I know it's a homonym but I just want to say I love the word stable because that's where I keep all the buff forces and in 1989 a short film entitled fascination on the Nurburgring was made of the Yellowbird mobbing through the Green Hell it's one of the sickest things I've ever seen we've all seen it it's truly a sight to behold seeing the man behind the wheel test driver stefan roser fight the car to barely keep all of those 450 before success and development in the 1980s it was time to up the boost and charge into the 90s the roof BTR and CTR - were both based on the Porsche 993 Carrera chassis and began production in 93 and 95 respectively fun fact the BTR - was the first 993 to be turbocharged the BTR - came with a 3.6 liter single turbo engine producing 414 horsepower it came with a standard kit that roof used to modify all of their vehicles stiffer suspension the revised exhaust bigger brakes etc the high-horsepower made this little rear-wheel drive sports car prints the 60 miles per in 4.1 seconds and top out at 191 miles per the CTR - was everything the original CTR was and more it took its inspiration from the Porsche 964 lamothe group C car it follow the same formula of beefing up the chasis and engine to handle more power but full power boom boom power babe Bob hey babe ma pulpit but wait how did they handle all the more power baby I'm glad you asked baby they gave this mofo all-wheel drive and it had two turbos instead of one a bi-functional wing because wings are fluid for better downforce and cooling for its two intercoolers and it shed a ton of weight by adding [Music] this might be the most beautiful roof ever produced and I've been to the Sistine Chapel this was also by far the most expensive roof to date with a hardy price tag of 315 K in 90s money this brings me to my next point the CTR 2 was the first roof to be road-legal in the u.s. roof produced only 16 standards CTR 2 s and 12 sports or wide-body variants with 520 asphalt crack and buff horses on tap the wide-body stampeded over other manufacturers with a butt hole puckering 3.5 seconds and reached an official top speed of 217 miles an hour it was the fastest production vehicle jr. entered to wide-body variants in the 1997 Pikes Peak Hill Climb driven by two brothers Steve and David better they garnered second and fourth place finishes respectfully these CTR 2's continued to compete in tons of Hill Climb events around the US and became a fixture on podiums everywhere they went yes car enthusiasts were well aware of roofs reputation for decades an exclusivity contract sign between Porsche and EA would introduce roof to a whole new batch of enthusiasts nerds people who Bruce actually drives the demons says Porsche could only be in EA games and no other games other for higher revving and better exhaust scavenging it had an innovative spherically arranged for valve layout coupled with multi-point fuel injection to ensure optimal mixture conditions and the best boom like the flat six versions the new our GT eight also included ceramic brakes and integrated roll cage and 19-inch forged alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport cup tires in 2007 they unveiled the CTR 3 which resembles the Porsche came in but harkens back to the limb all cars of old the frame is aluminum zinc dipped steel for the front and passenger sections and the rear frame was billet aluminum a unique configuration that roof calls the birdcage and singing blissfully within the birdcage is a 3.7 liter twin turbocharged flat-six engine that makes 691 beautiful buff horsepower to the CTR 3 club sport which was unveiled in 2012 made an additional 86 hurst / bringing the total to a very cool 777 oh yeah and it tops out at 236 miles per in 2015 they had built a car for drivers who powered by a 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine that cranks out 636 horsepower it has an elongated front splitter air intake tunnels on each rear fender and a duck tail spoiler on the rear wasn't built on a Porsche platform in fact the body shares zero parts with a Porsche at all in conjunction with Vela performance an engineering company based in Germany roof developed their new carbon fiber chissus for future models rolling out of Safa Hudson this new platform is the future for roof because it will let them build their cars without using a donor from Porsche and by modifying the subframes roof can use it to create any of their cars in varying engine layouts and transmissions including all-wheel drive a louis roof junior summed up his desire to improve upon the Porsche 911 by
