Rowdy Mastiff is the 'Prince' of Darkness! | It's Me or the Dog

this episode meet Prince an eleven month old Neapolitan Mastiffs whose behavior is anything but royal this is destruction and he's destroying his house did he he did he destroyed that as well the kids have had enough I'm gonna definitely spoils friends meet the George family mom Angela kids Raymond and Ashley and their 11 month-old Neapolitan Mastiff mix the reason why that friends is a while back my home was broken into and I decided that the best thing for our family would be to have a dog just for security purposes but for Angela prince has become a security blanket she goes friends more attention to me she's like a little brother I never has one move for pressers in the house you know my life was great out of heaven in this drawer Vince has destroyed socks slippers shirts pillows teddy bears and developme my waistband so I can't work out anymore because of the destruction angela has been forced to Crate prints and he hates it come on she named that dog correctly Prince he walks around this house like he owns it like he pays with mortgage and in another year we're gonna call him Kings giving dogs boundaries when they're young is absolutely crucial the early months of a dog's life is the best time for it to learn basic social skills if puppies don't get that early training you are storing up some big problems for the future [Music] say Prince he's totally ignoring me the only way you got him from i got him after my home was broken into of what i got up he had he didn't have a name he had never been on a leash and he lived in an enclosed area how long is he being allowed to get away with his biting behavior from the very beginning Angela I don't think that's it I think she is on the brink of realizing that there's a problem otherwise she wouldn't have called me here now Angela wants Victoria to see her dog's destructive side yep this is where I used to leave Prince he looks like he's chewed all of this wood as well look oh my god yes did he he did he destroyed that as well he completely he ripped the screen off and there were four wooden slats down here and he busted through those as well this is insane this is destruction how long did it take him to do all of this um just a week or so it wasn't that long at all a week you have a real major problem on your hands right this destruction obviously he comes from a dog with very very powerful jaws and what worries me is that the power behind those jaws could be directed at skin and on clothes Victoria asked to see the upstairs destruction that's caused a rift between Raymond and Prince anytime a dog puts mouth on skin that's not good it is only a matter of time before prints accidentally hurt someone and and hurts badly Raymond might be unscathed this time but his hat isn't good grief angela has no idea how to handle prints so her solution has been to create him when she leaves the house so this is princess crate right you said you put him in this when you go out I do okay um is it hard to get him in here yeah it's a little bit challenging to get him to go in the crate he doesn't like it that much could I see you put him in there see how you do it and just see his reaction when he's in there okay okay crates can be useful in training but they need to be used sparingly three hours a day for a dog in a crate is the maximum come on let's go come on come on come on I couldn't believe that Angela had to drag Prince into his crate it was so obvious he didn't want to go does he do anything else does have a tendency to go to the bathroom on the floor urination is a signal to you back off as well as making itself small as well as going on his side and we can alter that behave okay we have to make him love his crete okay okay Victoria witnesses evidence that Angela and Prince have an unhealthy attachment to one another Prince can't even eat without having Angela in the room I usually give Prince one scoop full of that food after I feed him I have to stay in the room with him because if I leave the room he will refuse to eat okay leave now [Music] so he he will only eat when you're in the room correct okay come on Prince eat you're looking at you is this to say alright I'll eat but don't go out again okay I've had a chance to observe you and your family and Prince you are not the greatest mother to your dog okay you are not taking a leadership role which is what this dog desperately needs mothering him has inadvertently made it impossible for him to cope while you are not here so are you saying that it's a bad thing to mother yes okay absolutely he's affecting the relationship between you and your children Raymond tell me how do you feel about what I've said I think you should get presser more rules you know let him live a life of the dog no not as a little sibling Ashley I think you need to stop treating Prince like he's a little baby Angela puts Prince on a pedestal and that's got to stop everything from now on the auditor does you guys are gonna be doing - okay well let's get working then Victoria wants to break princes bad eating habit I think it's quite a worrying sign when Prince can't eat when you're not here in the room it is a classic sign of separation anxiety he does want to be with you all the time and I don't think that's healthy for him I also think you need your space too Victoria thinks better tasting food would make prints more inclined to eat alone I'm going to warm this food up over it and reason why I warm the food up a bit is because it releases the scent molecules warm food smells nicer with the food ready it's time to give princes dinner for one boy good boy friends I was actually really surprised how quickly prints caught on to the feeding training I didn't think it was possible that he would ever eat alone but to my surprise again Victoria was able to get him to do it very easily [Music] I wants to give Angela an easy technique to break Prince's habit of mouthing prince has a really bad mouthing problem and it's getting to the point where it is getting dangerous usually when you take things away from him you have had to pry his jaws open we're not going to do that anymore so here he is he's having a nice chew always that fun oh look play with it play with it good boy drop it good boy take it good boy oh wow that's a good one Kimi the good thing about this is that it's play again we're not being confrontational with him we're not threatening him in any way we're playing try out with him take it take it drop it don't pull it out of his mouth let him really take it drop it you pulled it out of his mouth yeah take it drop it take it take it I was really surprised to see Prince be able to learn the bite release technique so quickly just because his biting behavior prior to now was so bad and so excessive if you take something that you want start focusing and playing with a toy once he realizes that what you've got in your hand is much more exciting than he should drop whatever he has in his mouth and come over to play with you it's all again but you're teaching your dog to drop it and take it okay when Angela leaves the house but she has to create prints so we won't destroy her home Victoria now wants to show her what crating is really like all right so here we have this crate okay I was definitely surprised when Victoria got it - princess cage when I got into the crate I think Angela thought I was a little nuts maybe I am but I always think that owners should try and see the world from the dogs point of view when you're in here the feeling of confinement can cause more stress but also it's just boring [Music] Victoria wants to show Angela there are options to creating it involves the rest of the family I want you to just go away for a while and I'm going to be here with Raymond and Ashleigh we're going to be just doing some work with friends see if we can engage him okay yep bye bye bye Prince bye I think it's been difficult for Raymond and Ashleigh to interact with Prince because they've been a little scared Victoria shows the children how they can help the destruction problem and have fun in the process okay Raymond's core prints to come to you now praise price my treat for coming to you lovely people Prince is quite a stubborn dog to teach but he's also very smart very good Raymond lovely all right now Ashley call him - you proved it was really wonderful to see Raymond and Ashley working with Prince because for the first time instead of jumping all over them he was listening to them he was working for them Ashley move into the kitchen call it from there Prince Prince he just is not the same I'm so used to being just basically bullied all over the house it is like I got a different dog completely fantastic do you know guys that was brilliant I think Raymond and Ashley are finally beginning to respect Prince and I think Prince in turn is finally beginning to respect Raymond and Ashley that's what I wanted I saw are you on the monitor with Prince giving him treats and he was listening yeah I'm so proud of you yes I know I'm family this is probably one of the best things that I've done for prints and my family having this training has eased some of the discomfort that Raymond and Ashley were feeling about Prince being a part of our Victoria Louise I think my mom she's gonna do a good job sticking with the routine with Prince I'm gonna step it up a little bit help my mom take care of press a little more [Music] I think there has been a significant change in the gorge Kingdom you are now you're the leader and yoora leader that prince is gonna be really happy to follow and that's what this is all about I am ready for Prince to give up his throne where do you guys actually in Raymond where do you think you are yeah I'm happy that Victoria came to help us out happy Victoria has been great and it really helped out our family a lot especially Prince and I'm glad to have my mom back what does it mean to you now that this is how it is oh yeah yes it feels really good I'm I'm really proud of what Raymond and Ashley have done and I'm just proud of what we've accomplished here in a short time with you helping us and helping Prince so thank you very much I don't want to cry I see the love that you have for your animal you know and and he found me that has the love and works for their animal your great dog Otis means a lot to me to hear you say that thank you Angela and her family have done so well with Prince he is like a different dog they have worked really really hard this is why I do this job because success stories like this make it all worthwhile I'm really proud of the George family for working so hard and I'm really proud of Prince [Music]
