Rory McIlroy | Every shot from his win at 2022 TOUR Championship

[Applause] right hand off early going left it's out of bounds down the left side this one down the left side as well bucker you think six here is just about imperative [Music] and that had to look really good right online not a bad spot there needs to get up and down just for a double little awkward coming over that shoulder off the bunker don't want to get it past the hole compartmentalized really really well you know still has taken care of business on the golf course as we see here from just inside of seven feet down the hill you mentioned his great run of success at the majors this year only ricky fowler had had that kind of success that was back in 2014 when ricky finished in the top ten all right he's had it outright as well i think that one caught that gentleman with the gray hat so a couple of wafer tee shots here for smith and mcelroy and craig we're in a little bit of trouble here with rory well we are indeed it's an inauspicious start here for macaroni third shot it's amazing to begin this the championship at uh four underpan are all disappeared in two halls so before scheffler's even teed off he's now finds himself 10 back mcroy said he was going to hit driver here try not to move any grass at all release yeah well done been a pretty significant uptick in rory's proximity to the whole numbers all the way through the bag early ned you know birdied his final three holes at the bmw you think coming in here with so much momentum trying to do something that has never been done before the one unprecedented three fedex cops and lo and behold it'll be rory first after the birdie he's just gonna swing with so much freedom now right poor tee shot at the first just go ahead and let it let it go it's gonna be a thing of beauty because it falls off in the front so i think you can take this at the flag even a little right of it good angle to do that another mistake there for macaroni macaroons yeah not good and it is it's demoralizing if you walk off here with another bogey you know you've got to believe with everything that's going on in the world of golf and to come here with how he's performed competitively and [Music] all the announcements of this week straight as hitters actually curve the ball wow when you look at pga tour ball speed average at 174 now rory dead center of the fairway stand up here and see if we can get a wedge shot in the right uh location on 22. stay right there lucky that actually released four a little late on this one well he's missed both left and right so far and he's all out of sorts there's mcilroy fortunate to mr bunker and on the upslope now mcelroy nehei fastball here he got a lot of ball that one was perched up some in the rough but that's not going to make it [Music] good sounds we still don't have a podcaroy leads the fedex cup and eagles and he pads the stat only about uh 30 yards a lot shorter than the par five dramatically downhill there really isn't a real pretty view of downtown atlanta on a clear day that's when craig looked a little more time to me from rory you have to be a brave man to play offense to this these guys do not hit many 220 shots into par fours and uh that's that's the safe mess the wideness plenty green with which to work from over there once again a very firm lie but with the green above you i don't think he can really go ahead and try and spin this that was fancy we got to look from the green back towards him we lost his hat so it shows how deep those bunkers are and to fly it all the way up there from that wet it's all about speed we finally got one there that is full-blooded with whatever wedge it was a lot of ball there the wedge game proximity numbers have really really improved and on display that's a good shot can be aggressive all right we started with a triple and a bogey we're now back to even pretty impressive that thumb print in the middle of the green is a good target and that was a late four iron again they're way way wide and late meeting the body way out in front of the arms couldn't square up the face that would thick that went in the bunker the area of relief well right now only thing to bear in mind is that thumb print which kicks into his lines he's gonna go to the right of that anything short and left is going to go left [Applause] [Music] be careful careful slaps go down to the front yeah lucky to stay there actually so mcilroy this for a closing part on the opening nine continues to play quickly uphill for the first half of the journey always low well i guess craig if you're a glass half full sort of a guy after the triple on one if you said tim hey you're gonna turn in one over he might have gone sure let's go but that is a disappointing fall yep i'd agree with that on both fronts i'll be hitting the right trees that was laced but it's hanging to the right tree above it no issue tree in front shouldn't be but the lie is muddy and the ball is a little down and that honestly has come out pretty well yeah i couldn't expect too much more he was peeking out mark he was concerned that thing rides up the face it could have clicked the overhanging tree and then with the mud you don't know how that's going to react [Music] they maybe had the same thought a little bit more freedom my daughter isabella was with me she had stayed and he said to isabel he goes you need to remember that because you will never see anything like that in your life again and it truly was memorable that was decent enough but slightly tugged seemed distracted from the get-go there didn't quite get back set and long and left is going to be rapid the repetitive nature the consistent strike there's no manipulation in the hands that's the way to go about pitching chipping the golf ball hold that thought let's watch mcelroy roll this one he could have aimed at cam smith's ball mark and i don't think that would have been enough a blade of grass because i i was always using the bounce never the leading edge probably looking at that through bunker down the left it's 300 to it and that was by far and away the best swing of the day there's an easy flag which is in the front portion the green that's the honey pot this one back where it is today is the awkward one to get to he's flatting that down with less spin oh yeah yeah jump forward too that's nice to see when you're controlling the spin beautiful part the putting has really improved for mcelroy it got too flat in the club too behind him that was hit [Music] any idea he was asking for to get over the trees 140 is the number and he is open way up and got the blade opened up too we're looking for the high fast slider rory on the last couple holders went off speed a little bit to match the arms and the body up this one here downhill lie clump of rough behind the ball so you're guessing on contact now rory to save par easier putt up the hill from his right rory could use some of that right now he let one go down 13 but it was pulled that got the full treatment now he had that eager look about him and i think he's going to like that result both should be in good shape here we see roy's ball has indeed found the short grass here at the 14. [Music] and we are hole hunting yeah great shot there from rory leaves it in the perfect spot to putt up the hill this one's a good look all it needs is speed he's got it just enough of it and rory's roller coaster ride continues there is a beauty if it keeps turning yeah good solid shot there right at the heart of the green this one looks like it wants to wiggle just a little from his right to the left [Music] mcelroy with the magic 15. [Applause] just a big high draw down the heart someone found his groove and that is absolutely perfect left side of the fairway back right flag mcelroy in prime position not wasting any time green about five yards above you a little off speed wedge [Music] and another fine result from rory mcelroy that's in there ten feet left of the hole be another great look for birdie that was also with a wedge [Music] [Applause] and another great birdie there ferrari mackerel just a well-played hole i would take it on the inside edge is the right edge of the second bunker down the left-hand side that's 305 over the top of that oh big block though needs to stretch we're good we're good it'd be it it'd be ten thousand three hundred as a payoff but you would have netted eighty seven hundred yeah yeah see what i mean yes [Applause] yes it was good there ferrari just catches the right side of the hole at about the 305 ranges the speed slope that kicks the ball forward down the fairway absolutely ideal mcelroy mark signal from harry is foreign and very good now carries that right bunker and that'll leave rory a good makable look for eagle you can see the camber of the slope and everything works from back to front so right handers look breaking off his rights it'll be fast yeah just got a little bit low of his starting line there you're making me dizzy and he goes a year that sort of a day he played his last 14 and 7 under [Applause] that's exactly right mark just try and get it up on that front left just clipped a tree but that should be okay [Music] not a terribly tough chip edge over the corner little left to right spin hold it against that bank very well done [Applause] shouldn't be a problem for rory nice three shot difference from yesterday little tail window of his right shoulder and that is an eight iron he's trying to draw into this whole location you cannot see that golf ball for the lip of the bunker on the front front right portion of the green sir you'll be pleasantly surprised at that result when i think it gets up there this thing is going to turn to the left he'd take two from here [Music] all right mcelroy gets his three [Applause] this might be taking aerial shots of that [Applause] squared that up pretty well no well nothing to worry about there catches the right side of the fairway and that will leave a very good birdie opportunity for rory mcelroy just a little tickle with the love wedge from here oh he nipped that yeah another good one there now the goal is just rolled it right over the top of that fairly straight oh just runs out of speed i think rory thought he made that for the longest time well that's a birdie left off the hook there for mcilroy as an option of late but yesterday was a little late on some of them that that was out of the blueprints [Music] well you don't like it it's part of the game that's really improved in the last three or four months proximity to the whole but well below rory standards that's a poor part had to be so disappointed with that wedge from 144 from 125 to 150 on the air he's actually second in proximity inside 20 feet and that wet shot was outside 30. so an opportunity i think that he would feel has gone awry but don't you feel like after yesterday's start where he was four over after this all i believe he must be playing with mass money right now ralph is taking a load off right now [Music] oh this is peachy looking [Applause] it's pretty exquisite coming off the bark sometimes that bar can influence the ball the wrong way and can shoot it right it'll be slower than most back up the hill and if you look at the american side it's cut and dry the top well now that zelo taurus is actually out but the 11 guys are all in the top 20 in the world uh you know i think sahith potentially could be that wild card in there you know tom hoagie's here kissner's there as well to replace cello taurus [Applause] you gotta navigate sort of top that out there a little fortunate to get back in the fairway yeah caught the tree trying to hit it so low and you're very good right to get back out in play a little room behind us want to be a bit careful see if he can prove the wage scheme from the last hole this is nice [Applause] yep well done i mean you've driven it wildly you hit a poor second you time to break the seal and there it is [Applause] well it's the first birdie today he actually had more powers through five holes today than he did all of yesterday and is even around them or happening rory this left again it's trying to hang in there ned back into the breeze mcelroy from the bunker nine iron in hand good lag gonna have to elevate it fast he did that's gonna have to scoot to get to the front now rory zorgiula is going to help just a few feet in front is that bermuda grass you wouldn't want it there from here with the ball teed up this was a doddle really carried him yesterday [Applause] it's going right i would bet the farm rider the bunkers 320 over those babies oh they're not even play oh man look at this holy crap i just lost the farm beautiful angle you're almost firing away from the water and he hit a good one in here yesterday draw a little and you're good i would say a pretty good look because you don't have to worry about giving the speed disappointment with the wedge shot and make up with the pot unfortunately not well that round of 67 with the eight birdies and an eagle and four buokies and a triple need a little injection of birdie juice here there's one hanging to the right and that may have stayed on the bank if it's sat on the bank that won't be too bad he's got to like his chances landed like a beanbag that's really saying something but he's too ahead of where he was this time yesterday do you think he will remain too ahead of where he finished yesterday his shots well 67. that swings anything to build on i'm going to bet on rory walk past me said this has been boring and i responded with well you're too ahead of where you were and you smile and he goes you're right you give this man a read as well as he's putted this year you better make it yeah that was a poor outfit there that had to start high on the right and it started center left that's promising can i just reiterate this is 206. mcilroy second at 11. yeah a lot a lot of things in his favor there from the upslope pretty decent lie seemed like all but automatic this one you have to pay attention the line from back there is the through bunker down the left it's about 290 through the fairway on that line i feel like he's at his best with his wedges ned when he takes a little speed off them and it looks to me like he's got slightly longer a club there it is this is a really receptive looking hole very nicely done that's going to throw a conspiracy theory at hmm just snapped across the hole question for you yet setting up left trying to feed one looks like well the bunker carry with no issue at 3 30. decent angle to this hole but anything left of it is no dice you have to be very careful like in a jumpy it's up to a backhoe location and repelled it's going to be really tough there ned come on up and over that rise going to spit it a lot from left to right [Applause] and he does well you've played in so many pro am's just to clean up that on his angle just the edge of that white structure through the fairway is the ideal start line that got some air time yeah glorious right there launch it way up at 146 launch we're carrying it 350. that thing had everything but the flight attendants to it not a full one nine iron battery just disappointed it should be he's just forced a wedge and say he said he hit wedging apart four five fifteen oh that's a two finger nine wasn't even full it's a game we're unfamiliar with mcelroy for birdie downhill the entire journey but nothing doing for rory at the 14th another par on the books he had this up and down affair with triples and eagles and whole outs and that was an easier pass on a very aggressive line superb shot there from roy mcelroy and you know what john we saw that graphic in the top corner there this club was the primary weapon yesterday we made a beauty here it's out of reach it's been the order of the day brandon is not often that that 316 bunker down the left is in play he drove it alongside that thing yesterday and that one was tattooed today has to convert with a wedge here give himself a good look it was a gorgeous strike and a gorgeous result just a couple feet left of the hole [Applause] yeah important to keep your head still just on that left edge yeah just catches the right side of the hole but a good birdie there for rory mcelroy just take it over the top of everything down the left-hand side way out in front of that one brendan market looks to me like every time he's trying to hit one really hard yeah looks like he can get clean on the back of the ball he did it [Applause] pretty good jenga [Music] judge for speed and rory will be happy to walk away with four after the wayward t-shirt now inside the circle indeed hey john good two-part not full bore that was full bore asking for a bounce well we can see it just in the first cut and that'll be okay just about the same distance i think that he had yesterday mark i feel like he's got a pretty good shot here [Applause] how good is that lie or when it was plucked you know back previously and we're talking about the leading edge digging in that time really laid open and plucking up using yeah i used the bounce of the club perfectly and was an easy shot but still you have to execute and he did so very well andy north on the ground following this dynamic duo all afternoon in atlanta [Applause] [Music] [Applause] uh important start here for these guys from valencia california please welcome max homa best of the day so far andy yeah 153 just a nice nice way to get the day started number one at driving distance all week long [Applause] and that one lacks a fraction of speed and takes a little too much break across the front of the cup tracing technology is provided by trackman rory staring at it opportunity for birdie yeah the pin sheet says eleven on five from the right but really have anything go wrong in his third round let's start at the second hole yesterday [Music] one first round a little bit of everything second round all pars and three birdies down the left side that's good i'll just start out with the birdie at two and then how about the very next hole at three beautiful rory that looks pretty to me man [Applause] [Music] i really think his stroke has improved dramatically too that's a nice birdie i think it's really important to get three or four under these first six if you want to put some pressure on the leaders [Music] asking for it to stay right that's well up into the second bunker but it's come back away from the lip it shouldn't be a problem all right that has squirted right out of there okay rory all right pretty well done slope and grain moving left to right and fool's mcelroy so that is a drop shot out of position off the tee out of position with a second and pays the price start it down the left side it's going to catch the left hand rough all right so that's two consecutive drives from mcelroy [Applause] we lost a good friend in tom weiskopf earlier this week and when i first came on tour he was really kind to me and i must have watched him hit half a million balls in my first 10 years because he was a tall player that had a golf swing that was something you should watch try to learn from the guys that by your height or your size so and i don't believe you can carry it over the left one our tracing technology is provided by trackman [Laughter] [Music] this week has been where the players have said we've got to score there here is the par five six this was so good yeah i mean he knew it was good it was just a matter if it was going to be the perfect distance absolutely was and it was tight for the lead just 12 holes later maybe the easiest three you'll see here all week at the six rory mcilroy with an eagle is headed left that way back out the bunker yeah he got it up out of it he got good contact can it get there what a shot absolutely fantastic all right just not quite enough it's got to be halfway aggressive there you go hasn't missed from inside five feet this weekend [Applause] i'm not so sure they would have carried all the bunker but pretty darn close to it i came here in the third round now here on eight beautiful reed right here left to right right there kind of catches the slope [Music] stuck the finish andy absolutely stuck it all right so he stays at 4 under through his first night a tiny little 31 going out boys headed left it's got it's not cutting i don't believe no i kind of knocked that gentleman off his seat right there he's got to keep it low all right [Applause] [Music] just came out there absolutely dead it was so deep in there [Applause] [Applause] that is so nice i'd be willing to bet if you played this whole 100 times and you never had a flag stick in the green you'd played better than when the flag sticks there sucks you into going at once you shouldn't go at yeah good play that is just exactly what you want to do here gotta make a pot up the hill from 25 30 feet so easy par for rory here at the 11th he remains five back yeah i was just going to say that is kind of his normal shot 140 feet up in the air three wood right at it stay work okay that's fine [Music] just didn't quite hit it hard enough under par and you could tell he really really wanted that one one more look just headed right a little bit oh what a great drive it drew it back carried well carried over the bunker wow he's still at 14 under not for very much longer beautiful wedge you can see [Music] the dead arm delivering minimizing the spin [Applause] started oh yes that carried on the top of that last ridge and it's going to run down that ridge another 25 yards terrific tee shot look at the tower back there start line there this is a mile high a little bit off to the right well done he's not happy with it but still makeable inside the the hole maybe off center left but that would be the most and no worries safe shot he gave that one a little extra at the bottom which would be the normal thing to do here barely touched it [Music] all right stress-free par for rory here at 15. i think rory of all people probably could [Music] looks good indeed another good one another good look at bernie in my head miss it on the left and usually it worked out pretty well oh what a he can overpower this place he can shoot 62 or 3 as easily as anybody else you surely think he can get it over that bunker this this tracer is as straight as a ruler tough left hole location just a little bit to the right of this would be a really nice play everything runs off the green on the left see how soft everything is it's going to be fire at the flag sticks today again gentlemen taking power off adding it when he needs to here on 17 this was his first hole this morning fresh green eight nine miles an hour right to left and back into them it's hanging down that right side it's perfect it's got the fairway awkward angle to come in but and then after a perfect drive his second shot on 18. smartly played wanted to maybe move it a little left to right if possible but make sure you come to the bunker all right so rory doing his job as well putting himself in a position to win his third fedex cup no player has ever done that before what an accomplishment starting up the right side turning over this is a beauty hand-hammered yeah he said when he hit that first shot on thursday he just said he was trying to steer it and guide it this is eight iron starting well to the right and not turning over this is not the miss he's looking for on the first hole wow oh boy right of the gallery rope situation you felt it crucial that he pick up a shot before he lost one he's in danger going the other way right now get in there oh and a knee knocker for bogey it'll wreck your tempo 18 million dollars you got to really collect yourself get your head together like it's okay he can give himself a chance mcelroy is trying to get a little closer with his birdie try woody more underneath the hole not as much break probably more uphill [Applause] [Music] and that's in good shape and while we have a second should be able to put some spin on this that was the full lob wedge on a good line if it carries and spins a little left from there oh it did caught a little bit of the down slope made it jump forward boy it sure does justin like i said you just draw one closer before you drop one back there you got it okay so mcilroy climbs back in that tie for second five back very high loves it quick t pickup that is really good players have only hit this fairway about 40 of the time back to four all right green light here for mcelroy loves to hit the draw all right same swing he made on number one paul up and out of it yep that is not good [Music] leading the field and putts per grain in regulation this week yeah that's a good leave and a good lag putt [Applause] starting left right on the edge of the fairway trying to cut back towards it kind of the one arm follow through there as if rory didn't get all of it but it's fine yep that was only 300 in the air not 322. corn ferry tour player of the year he's come a long way in a short period of time there it is mcilroy trying to throw another one in there close exactly right scotty scheffler has led a bunch of these guys in here we go mcilroy walks another one in he's not afraid to walk right through the door either he has a great record of catching people from behind he's back on the t-3 back tied for second big rip at it that one yesterday zinger he only had six iron man left himself 165 front and this is perfect as well at the left side and hammered he doesn't miss many either so if he flushes it watch out starting just right at the flagstick turning over a hair on a good line it's the right number nope just short easy up and in for the most part but as it trickles away every foot gets a little more difficult this is an easy lie oh he hit it hard he hit it real hard that is not very good at all mcilroy and m from this point on such a great point you get caught off guard bingo yup mcelroy despite the poor chip takes another birdie from the par five sixth he's done this every day justin found those fairy bunkers on the left twice not sure why he doesn't take driver and take just take it over those bunkers but this one looks good down the right side of the fairway in good shape there oh it's picked up the big chunk of mud there on the right hand side of the ball as we go back to mcilroy the seventh 190 huge chunk of mud on the ball playing conservatively towards the center of the green very smart play here and all things considered very well done from rory again they have played it down in the third and the final round preferred lies ability to clean the ball if any muddy got on it [Music] did he hit it he did rory mcilroy from six back to begin this round now tied for the lead gary looks like he's aiming at those bunkers trying to turn it off him or maybe he can just blast it over him 318-yard carry over the last one down the left side needs a soft bounce and gets it okay it's fine he had hit every fairway gary until that big miss gripping down on it try to take a little off of it and this is right we talked about him missing right with his irons might get that slope yeah it'll catch it it'll move it a little bit closer toward the hole [Music] sliding down at every intent and a good look there [Applause] that is well back there pumping it yeah maybe a little juiced up maybe a little juiced up and i'm mcelroy dumping it out get the line right he's gonna have a little stress out for his part all in all not not too bad [Applause] [Applause] watching it anxiously [Applause] but that looked great i don't know why he's just a free-wheeling motion a little unpredictability in the mud this is just his lob wedge good looking shot here certainly the big advantage over scheffler [Applause] well you missed that one but he's destroyed this back nine this week nine under par that's a bit lower ball flight that may help here starting at the right edge of the green playing a big draw on a good line just left of the hole oh great shot by mcilroy senses he might uh have a bit of an opening here [Music] [Applause] wow that much downhill it's just hard to imagine you could come up short well he still has a chance to get into a tie of the lead depending on shuffler's part putt no holding back there right the right side looks good yeah that was absolutely all right so two good tee shots there 12. straight to it 122 no back and forth there had it just right at the flag stick the year he won woody he stuffed it here at the 12th and made a birdie and went on to win this tour championship fedex cup we have a tie at the top as mcilroy gets to 21-under [Applause] starting up the left side cutting this needs to stop cutting it's heading towards those bunkers needs to get down yeah two on the right side he did he fly it i think he went in the rough i think he flew it boy this looks like a really good shot from where he was just short but that's not a bad spot to putt from at all and he scared that when it went by these guys were the combatants in the last tour event in georgia four and a half months ago that was at the masters where rory finished behind scheffler oh my this looks absolutely perfect that's what you want to do it's kind of like me against you now come get me go chase that right i mean that is just beautiful and he hit that top that miss we talked about earlier the right mist has come at the wrong time boy wow that is a tragic error on his part he's got a decent lie but nothing to work with that runs straight away from him he knows it he's gonna try a trick shot just not quite enough exactly what what he said down to one knee for rory as he knows he missed it by just that much looks good oh too hard he had the line got it but still the shot to the right that plagued him in the first hole gets rory for his second bogey it'll be okay we'll get a good roll not the best but it come out okay [Applause] that seems hard enough looks firm enough i've been started off yes rory bird is the 15th to time scottish heckler what about by rory here on 15. wow mile in the air to cut off those bunkers in it oh it looks like it caught that left fairway bunker boy sounded pretty clean it's right at it may need to get down oh my gosh caught on right on that downslope oh wow par to remain now solo lead for the first time today [Music] never a doubt [Applause] and lesson driver all right that's drifting off to the right our tracer technology presented by trackman right smack dab middle of the fairway and the wedge play has been really good this week i mean the distance control spot on let's go rory [Applause] that's understandable you a big par save at 16 and this for birdie at 17. always a little defensive chances are you're gonna be under the line [Music] okay so now the pressure falls back on scotty sheffler landing area if he hits it right easily taking it right over the corner this looks absolutely beautiful if it carries that rough that's as straight as train smoke and he's gonna end up on the severe down slope i think this is heading left big turn it's not good it's really low over there time left oh man and there it is i believe that's it all right now rory third shot here at 18. this could be the tournament and smart play 20 feet beyond the flag stick there he needs a two-putt and he's gonna do it so your 2022 fedex cup champion rory mcilroy yeah right now he's not thinking about the money he's thinking about the golf tournament that his game was unable to secure and rory mcilroy the de facto current face of the pga tour gets it done and class from sheffler and i'm gonna be really anxious to hear what rory has to say after this one
